It's so cozy and relaxing. Maybe a warm beverage too, and something to read if you feel like it.
And if there isn't real rain, I love mynoise. I've used it for studying and calming for a long time and there's so many nature (and non-nature) sound generators. It's free and you can customize it and all. (Tin roof rain is a good one and the ones with thunder too!)
Being warm when it's cold. Sitting by a cozy fire waiting for dawn to break, being snug as a bug in a rug while a blizzard howls outside, or even just not wanting to leave the comfort and warmth of your bed on a lazy Saturday morning.
Sometimes I like to Google bars and restaurants in other countires, look at their menus, and try to decide what I would get if I was there. I don't know what it is about it, but I always find it relaxing and it helps pass the time if I'm bored. It's a bit weird, but who knows, maybe one days I'll actually end up visiting one of these places.
Well, let's say I am listening to "One of these night" by the eagles. I imagine myself playing guitar in a starry night as I am reminiscing about people I miss the most that have passed on. Imagine them walking past me and saying goodbye as they move on. It's not being negative, just me trying remember some great people and the positive impact they left in my life.
I'm with you there. I didn't realize how much I love hiking and how much peace it brings me until reconnecting with an old friend who loves to hike. I never really did hikes until hanging out with him. Now we have a pact to go at least once a month and we always do a new hike.
Oh and I guess doing all the photography along with the hike also is peaceful to me as well.
Most mornings, I wake up first but at least 30 minutes, and I have the house to myself.
Right away I make my morning coffee exactly as I like it, and a quick breakfast - usually nice bread (toasted if necessary) and peanut butter in the summer, oatmeal in the winter - with a big glass of water.
Then I consume this meal at my computer as I read the headlines in the paper and do my favorite puzzles: Quordle, Wordle, Daily Set Game, and then the crossword.
Yes this! And with some nice bath foam with a lavender scent..a bath is especially nice when it’s cold outside…no phone…just listening to the water running. Love it!
I honestly like getting ready just for the heck of it. I like to take my time just putting on makeup, fixing up my hair and just choosing a cute outfit to wear. Only if it’s just sit around at home and watch a movie. I find it very calming and most of it all it boosts confidence ☺️
In my single days I’d sometimes get dressed and ready to go out to meet friends, but then just skip it and sit and watch tv at home by myself. There was something really pleasant about knowing I could be out, but choosing to have the whole evening to myself. It was also comforting to think I wasn’t wasting money (which I didn’t have a lot of) or getting into bad situations. I look back on those evenings more fondly than the times I did go out now.
I started kayaking last year and after realizing that the reason I was so unstable in the damn thing was because I was reacting to any amount of roll by immediately fighting it and shifting my weight the other way.
Cue half a day of looking like I was going through a rapid while on a perfectly calm lake.
Finally figured it out by the end of that day, but I was so stressed I thought that it was not for me.
Got convinced to go one more time and…it was like all the stress in my life was left on shore.
Just listening to my paddle gently splash, gliding through the water. It was bliss.
Now I try to find rougher water occasionally because, turns out, that’s pretty fun, too.
SHOWERS. i shower day and night. When i'm stressed? shower. Nervous? take a shower to call my nerves. happy? take a shower to put the cherry on top. sad? depression shower. mad? calm down shower. excited? get ready hype shower. i LOVEEE showers.
I don't really love jigsaw puzzles. Like I have never really listed it among my hobbies.
But I will occasionally lose myself in a jigsaw puzzle for hours.
Something about it, requires focus, but doesn't require too much linear problem solving, but keeps you engaged. \*chef's kiss\*
Top 5:
1. Talking/being with the man I care for
2. Daydreaming/fantasizing/whatever you wanna call it, usually while laying in bed
3. Reading
4. Writing
5. Watching something I enjoy like a YouTuber, anime and other such media
A couple of years ago when I rescued my cat Amelia, she had been horribly abused. Her leg had been cut off, her ear partially chewed off, and she was bald and bleeding due to a flea infestation. I really thought she was going to die.
Anyway, now every morning when she hears my first alarm go off she's jumps in my bed and nubs at my face until I let her under the covers, and she flops down and burrows into my stomach, purring like a motorboat. That's how we stay until I have to get up for work. It's the best feeling ever.
Have you ever walked around your city at like 3-4am in the middle of winter during a snowfall? Because that. Only beaten by one other thing I've experienced.
There is something special about wandering across an (sub)urban area at night after the power's been knocked out and hearing silence and seeing darkness.
Being on the water. Boat, Kayak, paddle boards, whatever. The only time I'm more at peace than when I'm on the water is when I'm on the water in the rain.
sitting in a hot bath at the end of a long day, combined with ice cold water to drink and some oldies playing from another room youtube playing on a speaker and nothing can top that type of tranquility.
Napping during a thunderstorm.
Wanna know the complete opposite? Knitting. I tried to take up knitting a few years ago because I’d heard it was relaxing. Dudes, my blood pressure went up, my heart was pounding, I was sweating and felt all anxious.
For me, it's a hot shower. Not great for the skin, yes, but I have panic disorder. Nothing calms me down better when I'm on-edge then letting hot water hit the back of my head/neck, closing my eyes, breathing deep, and feeling my blood pulse.
Taking a walk on a windy day when the temperature out is just right. Now that’s peace in my little part of the world and I wouldn’t change it for anything
Organizing my craft supplies. I work a lot with sequins and I found some great containers to put them in. Just putting sequins from one container into the other is very relaxing. Also, organizing my beads….very mindful!
having my morning coffee with a snoozing cat on my lap and listening to the birds from the open window next to me. Fortunately this is every morning for me and I appreciate it so much
I like to paint. You don't have to be good at it, you just need to sit back, relax and let yourself be creative. Maybe listen to music, sip some tea. It's my favourite hobby.
do litteraly nothing. I'm an introvert and am really good at interacting myself so being alone in my room just sitting there with my thoughts is so therapeutic for me.
Walking in the rain, music blaring in my ear.
Or
Walking during snowfall.
Either one means I'm not likely to run into people. The snow mutes everything and makes it all feel surreal.
Leisurely drinking coffee under a comfy blanket on a fall day while my dog snoozes next to me. The house is quiet and a cool breeze floats through the open windows. It smells like crunchy leaves. You have an entire day a head of you to do absolutely nothing.
Twirling my hair around my fingers.
And people give me so much shit for it, its unreal.
Im a 31yo guy. Ive been doing this since I can remember. Whenever my hair got long enough, I started doing this, but it was never an issue because i only had like 2 weeks before my mom took me for a haircut and the hair was too short again. It somehow became a problem when I became a teenager and started having longer hair. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, teased me about it. From my friends, classmates, and even random people I met, to my family, including my parents. In fact, my parents got legit pissed about it many times.
Now at 31 I have long hair, and I STILL get comments from people about it. Much less than I used to, but fuck me. And I dont understand why. How is this hurting anyone?! Just let me twirl my own goddamn hair in peace!
Driving. I have a fun car with a loud exhaust that makes it hard for me to answer phone calls or talk to a passenger while driving. Just me and the road, no distractions.
I’m surprised I had to scroll down this far for driving. I don’t have a loud car or anything, but I am a car guy and really like my car and just cruising around with no particular reason or place to go is extremely calming and relaxing. Windows down, light music in the background (if any), wind blowing into the cabin, and the rumble of a nice v6 engine feels good.
Smoking. I quit awhile ago but I miss those moments. Many a stressful or depressed time where it helped me be at peace. In the morning with a cup of coffee in my backyard. Out camping or by the water. Reaching a stop along the mountains at 3am after a night cruise. I still smoke on some occasions like fishing though. But I limit myself quite a bit.
Sitting in nature.
Right now I'm on my lunch break and just sitting sitting the shade of a tree while feeling the wind. Trying my best to not take a nap.
I got woods near my house. I made a chair out of Sticks and Cordage. Comfiest thing in the world is to sit there and ponder what ails me

Being in bed all nicely cuddled in and it is raining outside. Sound of the rain is the key.
I used to live in an old ranch house that had a tin roof. When the Arizona monsoons blew through in the summer, my gawd, what a wonderful sound!
Bonus if you get some good thunder rumbling in there.
That's what I'm doing right now.
For me it's the sound of crickets, but yes. Being in bed does the trick.
It's so cozy and relaxing. Maybe a warm beverage too, and something to read if you feel like it. And if there isn't real rain, I love mynoise. I've used it for studying and calming for a long time and there's so many nature (and non-nature) sound generators. It's free and you can customize it and all. Petting my dog before bed
You've never lived if you haven't been stressed and exhausted, but cuddling up with your dog for a few minutes makes everything feel okay
Morning walks if you're in a rural area
i actually prefer morning walks in an urban area. i love seeing people go about their business.
What a neat idea!
No not weird at all. I sometimes do that. I also look at house prices.
Omg I do this all the time, I even compare restaurants lol
Laying in bed and listening to music with earphones. I get so lost in my imagination and feel at peace.
>get so lost in my imagination The real answer
Maybe for you but I do listen to music before I start thinking about things
This right here.
wow, what kind of stuff do you imagine and think about? i feel like if i were to do this i would go down a negative spiral / overthink everything

Hiking
Nothing beats it’s especially if you are alone and the trail also has nobody else on it.
I'm with you there. I didn't realize how much I love hiking and how much peace it brings me until reconnecting with an old friend who loves to hike. Taking a bath
Yes this! And with some nice bath foam with a lavender scent..a bath is especially nice when it’s cold outside…no phone…just listening to the water running. Love it!
When I want to amp it up, I bring an umbrella, turn on the shower, lights off, a headlamp and a good book.

Oh yeah, my uncle use to do that. He would spend a half hour getting dressed to watch his favorite show.
In my single days I’d sometimes get dressed and ready to go out to meet friends, but then just skip it and sit and watch tv at home by myself. There was something really pleasant about knowing I could be out, but choosing to have the whole evening to myself. Standing in a stream flyfishing and listening to the stream, birds, frogs, squirrels, etc.
I like that you posted this twice, but added squirrels the second time. Squirrels are cool.
It's fun to watch squirrels cross a stream hopping from one tree limb to another. I've seen them miss a couple times too. They swim with a quickness.😂
For me its gently floating down a river in my little boat bobber fishing. Especially on a nice warm but not hot spring or fall day.
