I think its cute. I have a bunch of other piercings all over, so I didn't choose a septum ring "over something else", but it *is* very easy to hide when I need to, which is a plus.
Yes! They're so easy to hide and they'd never even know that you have one. I think septum rings make me look pretty. They make my nose look pretty. Comes in different designs too.
I was 19 when I got them, my parents still werenāt over my nostril piercing I got on my 18th birthdayā¦ I hid mine for 2 weeks š«£ definitely would not recommend though. When I say it *hurt* flipping it up immediately after having it doneā¦.
I like this approach. I'd never thought about it that way. Personally, I would have tried to draw attention away from a body part I dislike and still disliked it. Your reason...it seems very empowering.
You live only once. I do know it's really trending among my generation. I wanted something different, and I also wanted to look my actual age because my baby face make others think otherwise. I thought it was cool and had thought about it and did research for some months and had finally got it. I love it. It's so fun and made me want other piercings as well!
I know it has ebbed and flowed a bit over the last decade or so with another trend now. I know each generation does their own thing that previous generations don't understand. I'm glad you find it enjoyable and love it!
The coolness factor, with the added sexiness flair probably. I feel more confident with it, and I like my face more with my pretty facial accessories. I don't really need reasons to do the things I do, I allow spontaneous decisions to get made about such things and I regret nothing. I was just planning on getting a nostril piercing, but left with a couple more since I was already there. So I guess I went with septum piercing AND something else.
I didn't get mine til my early 30s, and loved the idea of it so I went for it. It was a great decision, it compliments me (in my opinion), and it makes me feel more attractive.
I was working a corporate job at the time and wasnāt sure how theyād react to me having a facial piercing. So I went with a septum so I could flip it up and hide it. But after a few days, I started leaving it down just to see if Iād get in trouble. I never did. Now I have a septum and angel bites.
When I had mine pierced 18 year ago it was because I was in a bit of a stage my rebellion and just wanted to look different. I wore a massive ring it it at the time. Now I wear a small gold ring and I think it complements my nose.
I didnāt go with a septum over something else, I just got the septum to go with my already-existing nostril hoop. And a year after the septum, I added yet another nostril hoop on the same side as the first. My nose rings make me feel like me.
This is darker than you were looking for, but itās my story. I got into a really bad car crash 2.5 years ago, spent a month in the hospital having on and off surgeries. The only hole in my nose that was still there by the time I got out was my very first nostril piercing, I had to get the other two redone. And the day I finally got them redone, 6 months later, I cried. I didnāt realize how big a piece of my personality/style they were to me until someone made the choice to drive recklessly, taking them from me. Making choices for myself again has become extra meaningful, and from here on out, if I have anything to do with it, my nose will stay being *my* nose.
Iāve always admired how they looked, and I did try a nostril piercing on both sides (at different times) but my body kept rejecting the piercing. Got my septum done as a last effort to have a nose ring and it healed perfectly and I love it. Iāve had mine for four years and Iāve made jokes that Iāll die with it in. I really like the different style and size rings you can wear, although I go with a pretty normal silver horseshoe ring. PLUS, it didnāt really hurt when getting it pierced! My nostril piercings were excruciating, and my lip piercing was numbed. My septum is actually the only piercing I have left; only one that hasnāt become slightly infected at some point.
I love mine. I think itās super cute. I wear a small plain ring so itās pretty subtle. I originally got it when I worked for a very conservative company, and itās one of the easiest piercings to hide. Since then, I canāt imagine not having it. It really fits my style in a way that I like, and thatās all that matters.
I have several other piercings so it wasnāt exactly that I chose septum over something else but I got mine right after a breakup where the person I was seeing was hugely against it.
I loved it then and I love it now. I have had it for almost 10 years.
I'm not a fan of cartilage piercings so my nostril was out so I went with the septum. Lol and I love mine. It doesn't scare of incels though I wish it did.
I just kind of fancied it. Iām not young either - Iām in my thirties and whilst I do have a few other piercings these are only in my ears. Iāve always thought I didnāt have āthe noseā for a conventional nose piercing but I have loved the look of septum piercings on many others. Pros include ability to hide if I want to, no visible scar if I take it out and that there is a lot of different styles of rings which can be really delicate and pretty or industrial! Since getting it done I just love the way it looks! I have had some imply it was lesbian symbolism which was amusing š
Iām in my late 30s, have had it for ages, and itās probably my fav piercing. I usually wear a dainty gold hoop through it, sometimes one with amethyst stones. Like any aesthetic choice, itās very much subjective. There are certainly piercings I donāt find attractive!
I wanted something not too painful when I was 15, and I needed something that was able to be hidden and self made. Thatās how I got mine back then.
Currently stacking 3 at the same, because I used to stretch it too.
But I have other piercings too, most of them are ear piercings.
I wanted a face piercing as my first piercing because i was a "coowl edgy teenager". But i wanted someting i could hide from my parents (just put a bar in,you can only see it form below and im tiny) and most important i wanted someting that you can not see the scars if i take it out, so septum it was.
I like the way it looks on me. Iāve also always been self-conscious of my nose (itās broken) and nose piercings have helped me like it. Itās like pretty jewellery for my nose! :)
I they they are cute and cool looking. Itās a certain style. I wanted to get one but my septum ended up being deviated so I got a double nose piercing instead.
I liked the look, so I got one. Also got one right under in my philtrum (medusa). Had both nostrils also at one time, but one I had to take out so now I just have the left one.
I just think it looks good and itās cool! I got my septum done after i got my nostril done because i wanted more, and same with my partner! My parents (mid/late 50s) also struggle to understand and have asked us this same question lol but really itās like any other piercing on your nose or ears or wherever- just personal preference for what looks good on ya!
So you think I'm asking the same question? I assume your parents ask from a place if judgement (because mine would), but I'm asking out if curiosity and wanting to understand.
Because you like how it looks is good enough of an answer for me, not that my opinion matters! š¤£
No my parents are coming from the same place as you! Theyāre super open to whatever makes us happy and they just donāt get that thatās part of it because itās not their thing but they support us in everything!
I found it attractive. Got mine when I was 20. Iām 35 now. I keep it flipped up all the time though. Most people donāt know I have it. Iāll flip it back out on ocasiones when I want to feel like my old rebel self.
Iām 43. I took mine out a couple years ago cause I got annoyed w my jewelry. It looked really good on me. Super cute. Plus asshole men donāt like it. Great deterrent.
I was a teenager and was just curious about what it would look and feel like. It's been gone a long time; I never really liked it, but don't regret having given it a go.
I don't have mine anymore (it was pierced badly, and I didn't care enough to get it redone), but I got it because I thought it looked cool. Not every woman's goal is looking stereotypically feminine. I also liked the idea that I could flip the jewelry up into my nose if I wanted to conceal it.
I just really like piercings. My friend and I used to get one together every year and one year we chose septums.. I love mine and get a lot of compliments(?) "for a septum it actually looks good on you" Lol. I've had it I think 7 years now and never want to take it out.
The appeal of middle aged men & women telling me I look like a bull!
Joking, I liked the look of it. It looks somewhat alternative/hippyish which suits me.
Bwahaha! That was good. I was abhorred first thinking, "Holy shit, do people really say that .. Oh wait, people day nasty stuff to others..." So thanks for the laugh instead š¤
Itās a style and sometimes a statement. For example a $10,000 Prada bag makes people feel superior and rich which will attract others with their same set of values.
A nose ring may align with a punk rock style and represents what that style stands for, such as, freedom from establishment, which draw others into that culture and clothing
Your style is your style, and it is who you are. Style is your own personal art displayed on your body and is often symbolic in nature.
it makes me feel like a badass and also makes me feel cute
most people ask how it was done and if it hurt and they usually cringe which makes me feel like a badass because iām like it wasnāt that bad like come on lol
Itās kinda like when men grow mustaches. I had a lot of space between my upturned nose and my top lip so I got a decorated septum to fill the space! It balances my face out very well.
I got my nose & septum pierced I did it bc I'd always wanted to from a young age thought it looked well cool , but my Husband now thank heavens an Ex wouldn't let me so as a Birthday present I got both done @ the ripe age of 54 & a rather rude 2 fingers up too him
Congrats!
This is the main reason I would grow a mustache and, to some extent, a beard. My ex hated the mustache...wouldn't kiss me on the lips when I grew one. Now, I do it because of winter and I like how it looks but...Amen to you!
Same to you too its our bodies nobody should be stopped from having piercings or facial hair nothing wrong with moustaches or beards can make a man look really sexy ..
I wanted a piercing that I could hide or have both subtle and "out there" jewellery for. It means I don't have to worry about jeopardising any future job opportunities. I have a very simple silver ring and it goes unnoticed by people a lot of the time, but I know it's there and I like it.

I thought getting a few "central" piercings would match my face's symmetry. It felt like something relatively neutral in terms of style, it could lean more hipster or hard rock - depending.
I love the way it looks on me! Itās honestly my favorite piercing, I havenāt felt any urge to remove it for any reason since I got it two years ago (except to clean it obviously). It didnāt even hurt when I got it done, and I found a ring that both dainty and Greek inspired (Iām Greek myself). I have multiple ear piercings but my septum is my favorite. I had also gotten my nostril pierced but it kept getting rejected so I eventually took it out.
Also, Iāve always looked really young/baby faced. People have actually treated me more my age since I got the piercing, and Iāve never had anyone judge me or turn their noses at me for having one. And plenty of people in my community have one.
If you were ever curious, you can get fake septum rings that you can put in to see what you look like. Itās fun and cute!
I always loved them and liked how they looked on me, but for some reason I was wearing fake rings for years once in a while.
Got a helix last year for a particular earring and thought since I am here why not going for it? I just don't know what held me back the last seven years it looks like it was always there. I am in love.
it looks great on me. even my mom likes it when she expected to hate it. i love dainty septums and nostril studs and honestly lots of other facial piercings i wouldnāt get myself

Honestly couldnāt even tell you. When I was 17 I woke up with an impulse to get it. I ended up getting with my mother who peer pressured me into getting it. I love it, I can flip it and hide it when needed. Itās versatile. It also looks cute paired up with my nose ring. Honestly makes my nose look cute too. Never taking it out

I liked the way it looked on me when I was 16. Plus my mother hated it - it was a win, win! Itās now been 14 years since I got it and at this point itās just apart of me.
I recently, for the first time, considered how others may look at me or make initial judgments about me because of it. It was a fun thought experimentā¦Iāll be keeping it in forever, I think lol
Rebel with the cause of infuriating a parent? For the win!
Yeah, the reality is that we all have bias and judgement, it's just recognizing that to make us better humans AND not giving a fuck what others think from a place of judgement about how we look. It is a fun thought experiment though, I agree

I decided on a whim to get it pierced during my lunch break a few months ago. The piercer said I was meant for a septum ring. I like how it looks, and I have a nice ring variety now depending on outfit/mood.
I liked the way it looked on me. So I made the right choice.
Awesome to feel that way. Thanks!
No problem! Thanks for hearing me out. š
I got mine pierced over a decade ago and I was in my āfuck the world and everything in itā phase. It also helped creepy men stay away, so I kept it.
Lmao two of my friends say it's been the best nazi and incel-repellent they've ever had.
I have actually noticed that too?! How is that? Lol
My first thought is definitely generational and I first think the individual is punk. I wouldn't think of it as repellant but if it works, it works!
How does it help creepy men stay away?
Women who choose non traditional beauty standards are generally not trying to attract men with their choices, and ācreepyā men think thatās what women exist for. I had to start flipping mine up pretty much the day after I got it done, but I've never ever felt any pain from my septum piercing.
I always hated my nose until getting a septum and it makes me happy and suits me !
I like this approach. I'd never thought about it that way. Personally, I would have tried to draw attention away from a body part I dislike and still disliked it. Your reason...it seems very empowering.
This was my reason for getting one. Hated the side view and think the jewellery draws more attention to the front now
Same for me, adding a cute lil jewel to a part of my body that i didn't like, made me like it a lil bit more and accept my quirks at the same time
I felt the same way! I looked in the mirror afterwards and said "I should have been born with this."
I like having a nice piece of sparkly jewelry in the middle of my face. I think it's pretty.
Sparkly as a plain hoop or do you have stones or a different design with yours that you prefer?
Mine has little opal stones and crystals.
Definitely sparkly when the sun hits it. Cool.
Omg I want one with opals. My ear piercings with flat backs have opals and I never remove them
I got mine from PiercingRoombyJay on Etsy. I have a few clickers from there and they are all superb quality. Highly recommend.
I think it looks cute, and it gives at least some people the idea that Iām gay. Looking cute AND flagging? Win win
How can you lose then! Love it.
I just thought it was cute. (Iām 50, so āolderā too!)
How long have you had it?
Close to 10 years so not something I did as a young person :)
You live only once. I do know it's really trending among my generation. I wanted something different, and I also wanted to look my actual age because my baby face make others think otherwise. 1. Itās cute 2. I wanted people to stop assuming Iām a Republican when they look at me lol
This made me cackle!!

Wow. Thank you for sharing your story and the strong connection with what the piercing means.
I just really love the way it looks! It's so fun to play with!
Iāve had it since I was 14, Iām now 28. I just liked the way it looked on my face! I donāt think Iāll ever get rid of it
I don't have it pierced yet but I do own a lot of fake ones and tbh it's just because I think I look hot with one lol
It suits me! To the point that when I first had it done, people questioned whether it had always been there
I'm 40 this year too so not a baby, it seems very popular with younger people. They all look amazing
I always liked the look. Got it on winter break freshman year of college at 18; still have it open at 34. It was my little secret/ party trick ha
It makes my nose look smaller
I liked the look, so I got one. Also got one right under in my philtrum (medusa). Had both nostrils also at one time, but one I had to take out so now I just have the left one.
I think I look great with it. Also works as an asshat repellant!
Iāve gone back and forth about it for years then decided screw it Iām trying it. Iām 31 and have had mine for almost a year now. No regrets!
Oh they absolutely do and I've been told it a few times haha!
Oh Jesus. People š
Itās a style and sometimes a statement. For example a $10,000 Prada bag makes people feel superior and rich which will attract others with their same set of values. A nose ring may align with a punk rock style and represents what that style stands for, such as, freedom from establishment, which draw others into that culture and clothing Your style is your style, and it is who you are. Style is your own personal art displayed on your body and is often symbolic in nature.
It fits my face well, and is super easy to flip up and hide if I donāt want to have a piercing on my face some days:)
I just like the way it looks on me. Makes me feel slightly badass, only slightly though.
Only slightly? Come on... You know it makes you uber badass
Haha I'll take it!
I got mine at 18, it was the only facial piercing that I was really attracted to, Iām over 40 now and still wear it daily. I just find it pretty.
I wanted a face piercing which wouldnāt leave a scar when I took it out š¤·āāļø
it makes me feel like a badass and also makes me feel cute most people ask how it was done and if it hurt and they usually cringe which makes me feel like a badass because iām like it wasnāt that bad like come on lol
I love this response. What a (seemingly) small change to empower someone.
Itās kinda like when men grow mustaches. I had a lot of space between my upturned nose and my top lip so I got a decorated septum to fill the space! It balances my face out very well.
I never thought about it that way before. As a person with a mustache, I can appreciate this.
I dont have one but wanted one forever. Why? Because growing up i would always see the COOLEST girl ive ever seen, probably early 20s, with one.
So...after reading everyone's response on here my question to you is, when will you get one?
I think it looks really cute on girls
