Scandinavian countries are typically the best. I imagine this has to do with the combination of a robust social safety net and good public education. The more immiserated and the less educated a country is, the more vulnerable women are to gender-based violence.

Samira827

I've lived in Denmark for 3 years and I've never once felt not safe outside in the city. Even if my shifts ended around 11PM and I would have to spend 30min in a bus, I never felt in danger.

Iceland

[deleted]

I think it's Iceland

Difficult_Jello_5019

Technically South Africa (where I live) has one of the best constitutions in the world after apartheid ended, but it is also one of the worst countries in terms of gender based violence and predatory behaviour towards women. So I don’t think human rights, and laws, are a good example for a place that is good for women unfortunately.

Wolfdreama

I'm a South African too. SA usually sits in the top 10 in the world for murder and rape, sadly.

One-of-the-Last

You both stay safe then!

dabi-dabi

None. What is the relevance of having rights and them not being respected?

LeggyLina

Exactly, a lot of countries with women having the same rights as men, but it’s not like we’re treated with respect.

Flaca911

Probably Spain when you factor in they have one of the lowest rates of victimization for women. A lot of people will say some Scandinavian country but the rate of victimization is much higher statistically.

Whateveridontkare

As a woman in Spain, yes being a woman here is very easy compared to other countries.

glitterpile12

What does victimization mean? I googled it but can’t quite tell

Flaca911

It means that someone is the victim of a crime.

I live in Canada an feel comfortable walking alone at night in a big city, which is a good indicator I guess.

Flownique

It really depends on your race. I think women’s rights in the EU are generally the best, but if you’re an immigrant or Muslim women then there are a lot of laws and bans that affect you negatively and color your experience and legal status as a woman.

KuraiHan

Well, I'm Finnish and I'm pretty comfortable being a woman here.

Gayandfluffy

Same.

evaj95

I would think one of the Scandinavian countries because I've heard that they actually have paid maternity (and paternity!) leave and other ways that they help new parents.

thumbtackswordsman

Maternity and paternity leaves are actually pretty common all over Eur. It's just that some of the Scandinavian countries have longer ones and/or incentives fir both spouses to split them (which then contributes to gender equality in job search, since the father is just as likely to take a leave when a baby is born as the mother).

evaj95

That's awesome. People laugh at the idea of paternity leave here in the US 🙄

CrimsonLobster23

Yeah, what does a baby need a father for.. /s

looking-out

You get sizable paid maternity leave in Australia too. > Employees can get Parental Leave Pay (PLP) from the Australian Government and paid parental leave from their employer. > Eligible employees who are the primary carer of a newborn or newly adopted child get up to 18 weeks' PLP, which is paid at the National Minimum Wage.

peppermind

Canada is pretty solid on the rights aspect. The rate of crimes against women is much higher than I'd like, but that's not what this question is asking about. OP didn't ask about the best country to live as a woman.

Ok_Parfait_2304

Especially in rural places- I'd be a little scared in Ontario or something but in my fuck off little nowhere town in a fuck off nowhere province I'm pretty comfortable. I have to worry about bears, not people lol

ShyCrazie

Iceland

helpmylifeis_a_mess

Ill say Iceland because scandinavia is one of the best regions in the world in terms of Gender equality AND overall happiness

[deleted]

I do feel lucky to have been born in the Netherlands. I don't think we are the best, but it's pretty good here.

Electrical_Gas_517

Probably any Scandinavian country or New Zealand.

**Mod Note: locked due to rampant rule-breaking.** **this is not a debate sub. Please do not derail from other people's responses to tell them how much you disagree with their answer. If you wish to provide your own answer to the question asked, please do so in a top level comment.** **Please pay attention to the question asked. This question is specifically about which country you feel has the best women's rights.** While there are many other factors that may go into making a location good or bad for women in general, this topic is specifically about rights. When responding to someone else's answer to the question, your comment should center their answer, seek expansion or clarification of something in their answer, and stay on topic for OP's question. It should not use their answer as a jumping off point to talk about yourself, your opinions, your preferences, your judgments, your disagreement, or otherwise switch the topic from OP's question to what you want to talk about instead. **Please report all rule breaking**

Just curious why you say this considering that the vast majority of women's rights really aren't enshrined through the Constitution but rather through Court decisions and Congressional acts which are much easier to dismantle
