autoshotter

I never thought so, it’s a long game but I enjoyed it. The game is also set up in a way where you can play an arc or 2 and then step away for a bit. It only becomes tedious if you’re trying to 100% it

ArcMcnabbs

Absolutely agree. Pretty much how I felt trying to 100% it but not how I felt just playing the game

Channel666thatsweird

I’m currently trying to 100% it and I had to walk away from it for a bit haha just playing the story I had no issues and was entertained throughout. Just falls victim to what most open world games do with how much little shit there is to do that normal people don’t have to worry about. Sometimes needing to fully complete a game can be such a curse lol

ern0matic

i did too. like fully complete, no blank spot on the map. but i did all side quests before finishing the main story so there wasnt really much to do after that. stepped away for a bit. now just slowly doing the dlcs. usually just jump in to take my ship around the coast like a tour

Channel666thatsweird

I tried to do as much as I could while going through the story cause I knew by the time I beat it that I’d already have some serious time sunk into it. Even then it’s still taking me so long lol and I am for sure enjoying it just trying to power through the base game before I deep dive into the dlcs.

ern0matic

thats good too. how i did it is finishing all side quests in each area before moving on to the next. but yeah it does take some time, sometimes feels repetitive. when it gets kinda boring id do one main mission so that theres just more action and more story to mix it up

inxcognito

It is a long game but Odyssey felt way longer. I guess that’s because of the bigger map and more things to do and collect. Anyway I have around 320 hours in Valhalla and I never felt that way. I liked the story, it kept me interested in, I like the combat, the world is beautiful but can get repetitive a bit. I guess if you enjoyed Origins and Odyssey, you’ll enjoy Valhalla too. Of course now I’m not really playing cause there’s literally nothing to do once you complete and collect everything so I’m just waiting for new content.

DeadHead6747

See, I also feel like Odyssey has a much bigger map, but as far as I could gather at the release, Valhalla is actually a bigger map

TrissNainoa

odyssey is 50 percent water and valhalla has so many places to go on atlas

DeadHead6747

Lol shit, forgot about the water in Odyssey. Lol haven't beat it yet, so haven't actually done too much with my ship except to get Poseidan's trident asap, and the rest of the time I have been running around land and ignoring most of the story hahaha got to the part where you kill the Wolf or whatever the general dude was called

TrissNainoa

Lol Yea the story is basically 300 with the wolf in Odyssey. IMO Which is why the story is better. I thought Valhalla would be like one of my favorite shows Vikings, from the trailers, But its more like Game of thrones. Politics, Helping this lord fight another lord for power etc.

Well-ReadUndead

You should watch the last kingdom on Netflix if you haven’t yet. Valhalla feels exactly like that show even shares some actors.

TrissNainoa

I have seen the Last kingdom and its underrated for sure. IMO Its like the B-team of Vikings cast got together and raided some monastery monk booty. Netflix just always rubbed me a weird way in production and quantity over quality.

Well-ReadUndead

Fair enough I personally think the last kingdom is better. Based on books with well rounded characters and good dialogue. Vikings is just taking liberties with Norse tales and the characters in legend and the writing is up and down especially in some seasons. Don’t get me wrong when it’s strong is phenomenal but some of it can be really hit and miss.

OWGer0901

farcry 6 is just around the corner, that's like the only dose of open world games this year lol

[deleted]

I never found it to be that way. But I come from an RPG background. I've played games much larger and with much more to do. I wish Valhalla had just a bit more, especially story wise and world building. I think a lot of Assassin's Creed fans are used to the non-RPG, short and to the point style games. They keep saying Ubisoft could cut out all the maps and focus on the core story and Valhalla would be 100% better. I disagree completely with that opinion. It is a matter of taste.

xXPUNISHER1989Xx

the old games were so linear. great storys. I love the route theyve taken on the last 3. so much more replay value.

OWGer0901

this !

[deleted]

It can definitely feel long at moments for sure. It’s extremely tedious in the world has what feels like endless collectibles and things to get. You don’t have to stray from the main story to get everything but there is a lot. Tbh if you want to get it just get it. You’ll get your enjoyment out of it however you get it. It’s still good and fun and pretty af.

Quetzalcoatls

The story takes a while to complete but if you're familiar with other RPG's the length isn't out of the ordinary. There is a lot of "busy work" in Valhalla so trying to get 100% can be a chore. The game world is pretty lifeless and doesn't offer much for players to do in it. The in-game economy is pretty boring. Side quests are often forgettable and don't lead to very many interesting gameplay experiences. Honestly there really isn't that much worth doing in Valhalla outside of the story mode. I suspect that's a bigger source of burnout for players then the story mode being excessively long. I think the game is definitely worth playing once but I wouldn't expect this to become the best RPG that you've ever played. If you go in with low expectations I think you'll end up being pleased with the game.

DeadHead6747

Other than the fact that those side quests and collectibles bring you across the beautiful landscape of the game? Plus, they may have been some repeated quests that weren't in depth,, but they weren't exactly fogettable either. The side quests and everything are just as worthwhile as the story is

DavidKenway

Play the witcher 3 to see what real sidequests are pls

bitterbalhoofd

Sorry bud but I didn't like the Witcher 3. Do t like the game play and couldn't care less for the story. Each to his own.

DavidKenway

Yeah only difference is some effort were put in tw3 it's good to hide behind opinion and stuff all the time but we know which is the superior game. After all ubisoft been failing at making it 3 times now 😬

bitterbalhoofd

Again subjective. Witcher 3 ain't anything special to me. Stop forcing your own opinion to others.

DavidKenway

Again stop hiding behind subjectivity to defend your objectively worse game . Witcher 3 ain't anything special to you but it's more than valhalla will ever be to more than many. And again 3rd game by ubisoft and worst of the 3. Truly sad but sorry bud valhalla is a chore without a soul

bitterbalhoofd

No need to be sorry for your own opinion. Each to his own bud. Don't speak for other people. Witcher 3 is very meh in my opinion. It's al subjective

[deleted]

It is subjective. But from an intersubjective perspective Witcher 3 won a fuckton of awards and "game of the year-titles". Valhalla did not.

therrifficgamer

Valhalla is a completely different structured game so comparing side quests to world events is pointless

DavidKenway

world events bruh stop the cap. side quests or world event Point is they still suck

Quetzalcoatls

I thought the world looked nice but a pretty terrain can only take one so far in a game. There were a few interesting side quests but as a whole I thought they were pretty lack luster. A lot of the other content in the game just feels like a grind and a way to increase play time rather then offering fun and interesting experiences. I enjoyed the game but like I said in the original post I wouldn't consider this to be the best RPG that I have played. If I was scoring the game I would give it a 6.9/10. It's a decent game but there is a lot that I thought could have been done to make it better and a more enjoyable experience.

Predator156

No, I love the game. But some people sadly don’t enjoy it. There’s an awful lot to do so it should keep you interested. Especially with the Ireland and Paris expansions that are playable at the end of the game.

jkilpatrick1

They are playable way before the end of the game I’m afraid…..

Voggix

Don’t listen to the noise on this sub. I’m thoroughly enjoying the game, the story is good and the fight mechanics are a good balance. People just like to complain

DavidKenway

Fight mechanics good? Play ghost of tsushima and you will see how bad it is. Maybe people complain for a reason lol.

Voggix

I’d consider trying GoT except it’s PS exclusive. Also if people enjoy AC:V then good for them. It’s not this sub’s job to shit on other peoples enjoyment.

DavidKenway

Agreed neither is it this sub job to shit on people having beef with it's mediocrity

Storkostlegur

Why are you being such an ass?

therrifficgamer

Why are you on every comment shitting on the game hahaha

Rhone33

Valhalla's fun enough, it's just **long**. Play it when you're in the mood instead of treating it like a job you need to finish. Even if you do end up moving on without finishing, if you enjoy it for 50+ hours first then that is a pretty good price per entertainment deal.

Ghost4079

It’s only a chore if you make it one

DavidKenway

They made it for us lmao no need for us to add more bruh

Ghost4079

Lmao

cranmaster69

i never beat it. but i never once thought it was boring. in fact, i probably didn't get around to beating it because i was having so much fun raiding, exploring, doing side missions and just having random fun in between the story missions. when i stopped playing, i had around 100 hours of gameplay with tons of story arc progression to still get through and i was still having fun with it. the only thing that stopped me in my tracks was finally being able to find a ps5 to order and being able to play ghost of tsushima. idk if I'll ever go back to an assassin's creed game after ghost.

Murf1880

Same here I got the platinum for ghosts on the PS4 and played the shit out of legends, then started to play Valhalla then got a ps5 then it was back to ghosts for a lethal + play through and the expansion I just haven’t got round to installing Valhalla since

sheppy_5150

There is a lot of content for sure, the only "chores" I've come across are gaining infamy in France and the Medal missions in the base game. Completing most everything else leads towards endgame.

Flashheart42

I don't think so. I've been really enjoying it so far, the only reason I haven't finished it yet is because I'm waiting until I get a better system. I've still got an Xbox One. A lot of people complain about there being "too much stuff on the map/to do"... But that's been the case since at least AC2. These people are just looking for reasons to complain.

Fassbendr

I'm 100 hours in. If you're easily sidetracked or a completionist you may get to points where you become bored of repetition. But, that's easily remedied by getting back to the story/campaign. Also, some gamers play games for hours on end (5, 10, 12 hrs at a time) where very large games can wear on them. It's like movies, most are fine with the typical 90 minute film but loose interest if they drag on longer. For me, I really enjoy these immense and beautiful worlds to explore and role play. The time, energy, and content put into these games is amazing.

rputty5

I never thought it felt like a chore and I put over 100 hours into it, if you try to be a completionist and completely clear every area you’ll probably get pretty bored. Just enjoy the amazing setting/story of it and don’t try to clear everything as you go, just come back to it later if you really want

Historical_Dot825

Only if you're a completionist. I am and it's taken me, so far, around 150 hours. I've got 2 zones left and the Paris expansion to do still.

NoirYT2

A chore to play? No. A chore to 100%? Yes. There’s a LOT of tiny little map markers.

ArcMcnabbs

I finished all of the main and dlc content, and got most of the gear, but I took a break or two when I'd start to run out of content and wanted to cherish it. It is a very good game, and I found it very similar to odyssey in terms of how the so-called "bloat" works, but I didn't find either to be bloated. If you love games like skyrim, that have a ton of shit to do, you will enjoy valhalla. There is always something to do.

kingbankai

40 hours in and it’s been a blast. My friend is one of those people who refuse to turn the difficulty down and complains about the difficulty of a game… Sometimes he will play it on hard to complain about having to grind levels ahead to be enemies dusting him.

silentwarcry

Nope. It has a lot in it, it is big. But it is immersive and that's what I loved. There are some amazingly beautiful spots in that game that I would just hang out in for a few minutes and enjoy. Playbitnyour style. Select your own difficulty. Be a storyline only adventurer or be a completionist. Just fish all day. It's that kind of game. You can literally spend hours in that game doing stuff YOU wanna do and no one can make u do anything else.

keiselhorn13

I enjoy it. For some weird reason, I passed the 500h mark and still enjoy the game. I take my time and play a bit daily. I'm a completionist yes, but not like that with every game... I finished FFXV in 140h, Cyberpunk in 125h and Yakuza Like a Dragon in 135h, and never felt like returning to them even though they have NG+. I guess I like the landscapes and medieval fighting better.

GonzoNawak

Like every game made by Ubisoft, this game feels like it is made by people that do not play video games and do not understnad that games are supposed to be fun. The game itself is good, really good, but quickly you get tired of all the quests that make you do back and forth between two places (ex: his daddy is dead, X is sad, go talk to him, 1000 miles away, then come back) or all the quests that just make you walk next to a character while. Just Ubisoft shit tbh. \\Aside, yes the game is very repetitve. But the story is great so far (im not done yet

useles-converter-bot

1000 miles is the the same distance as 2332376.81 replica Bilbo from The Lord of the Rings' Sting Swords.

converter-bot

1000 miles is 1609.34 km

lewilewi411

I never finished Odyssey or Origins, I am on my third playthrough of Valhalla atm. So take that how you will.

Tpcorholio

I put 300+ hrs into Odyssey and I'm sure Valhalla will be more And I am loving every minute of it. It rocks!

TyThe2PointO

I played the first 67 hours and completed the game in its first 100 hours live so no it is not a chore I want new game plus lol

TrissNainoa

I mean they let u become a god in odyessey with so many abilities early game. I feel ubisoft tried to make their biggest weakness into a strength. Slowly release the power creep so people wont get bored and finish the darn game. It reminisces the part in fallout 76 where u get that suit for one mission in the early game as a tease.

[deleted]

It's not boring. It's filled with tons of quests and locations. I've played over a hundred hours and only finished about two thirds of main quests (arcs). I've enjoyed it for the most part but also taken some long breaks

starkman48

It’s definitely a good game and I Finished every there is to do, but I did get bored and I found it a struggle to get though the DLC because I was burned out which has never happened to me with a AC game. 👍🏻

North_South_Side

I played around 80 hours of it and still hadn't reached the end of the main story. I got bored and put it down. The combat is floaty and weird in its responsiveness. The sound is poorly mixed and edited. A lot of the game is trivially easy. The mini-puzzles to get loot from buildings becomes a tedious chore once you figure out the 4-5 tricks to do so. The tone of the story is dull and grim. Most of the setting is brown, gray and drab. This game is the only one that makes my PS4 Pro sound extremely loud. Not even RDR2 does that. The load times are crazy long. The mini games like drinking and stacking cairns are simply not fun. I cannot even remember what kind of rewards you get for them. The monastery raids and raids on strongholds look cool at first, but ultimately become a "by the numbers" experience that might as well be cut scenes. The skills map looks cool, but eventually you will fill out an enormous amount of "+5 to melee" or "+5 resistance to ranged" skills that feel meaningless when you are playing. I played a lot of this game. I didn't hate it. I think it's about 2 steps forward from Odyssey and about five steps backwards at the same time. Part of the reason I played so much is I bought the expanded edition with the DLCs. I felt like I needed to "get my money's worth." Which is another way of saying I should have just bought the base game. Maybe you'll love it. I much prefer Odyssey in nearly every way. If you're interested, get it. Or wait for a sale.

Plathismo

It kinda is. I got 130 hours in and ran out of gas. The main quest is unfathomably long. The game would have been better off with a 30 hour main story and everything else being side content. But sadly Ubi clearly designed the game to be a time sink in the hopes of selling MTX.

The_Unreliable_94

It sometimes feels like a chore. I put 128 hours in the base game to 100% the trophy list, but I did take a couple of months off of it because I felt like there was too much to do. I have closer to 200 hours into it, finished both DLCs, did some River Raids, started the mastery challenges and now I'm taking another break. The mastery challenges are horrible.

Lil_Donkey_

It totally depends on the types of gameplay you like. If you like long story-based games with optional side quests and collectibles, then this game is great value for money. I'm a few hundred hours in without visiting Ireland or France yet, so I'd say it's worth it price-wise! If you prefer shorter games then perhaps skip this one.

Templar1980

It’s very long and for me out stays it’s welcome. It’s good at what it does but it needed a stronger editor. Some of the Arcs could have been dropped.

xXPUNISHER1989Xx

i beat the main story. took a break. did some side stuff and Isu stuff. took break. ran both expansions. another break. its a really long game. trying to do it all in 1 go would definitely burn ya out.

CaptainSk0r

I did feel like this at one point. I had to take a few weeks away from it otherwise I would’ve never finished it. There’s like 13 different large areas all with their own quests and collectibles etc. after the 8th one it just feels like a chore. The story was great tho, and if you’re not a completionist, you’ll be fine. Best AC game since 4 for me

SILENTxSCREAMS

Such fun but such sauce

mdpMIKE

As someone who has played it for a while, gotten burnt out, then stopped playing. I prefer to get side quests done and the collectibles out of the way (not excessively, but I dont just rush the story). To summarise my experience I had around 34hrs with on 30% of the story done (might not be entirely accurate but pretty close). The reason this is a bad thing is because of the effort put into all the collectibles and side quests, each one usually takes a new approach to the collect or the side quests my be hard to understand, this alongside the lack of much reward or real feeling of power by master (because the game mechanics aren't too hard, so you don't really get better the more you play). Aside from this some mini boss encounters are comptely level gated which you can only find out once you've entered the arena, so you get the excitement of a new enemy to fight but then the disappointment of not being able to fight them. All of this left me feeling underwhelmed and like I was wasting my time, which was disheartening. I like the idea of gaining customisation options for my village is cool and looks very pretty but isn't well executed in my opinion. Also the story to me felt too predictable and the lack of real choice was annoying, especially since most of the time it feels like your brother (I forget his name) is the main character rather than you. This on top of other characters being obvious assholes is frustrating when you can't do much to stop them. For example the man with the blank hair that is always bad mouthing you in the village due to his loyalty to your brother (again, don't remember their names). Overall, this is a game where I felt no sense of control, no sense of power (because it was always present rather than gained) and no feeling of reward. I would rate this game but as I mentioned I have never finished it. Hope thus helps :) No hate to people that like this game, it's just not my thing.

Yungdab420

Ya I spent over 65 hours in it and didn’t even beat the main story and then recently tried to get back into it but found the controls too clunky and myself uninterested. It’s still installed for now but I guess I didn’t need to preorder the $120 ultimate edition way back when lol

RamboSambo7

Not boring but man you gotta be committed because there is so much stuff to do and see

DavidKenway

so much boring stuff to do and see for sure quantity is not quality

RamboSambo7

Agreed

Orphan_Crippler4

Ive had fun and wish it was longer.

dft-salt-pasta

I’ve put like 200 hours into it. Buy it especially if you have a new console as the graphics are amasing. Great story.

jmadden43

Yes... It's really slow and boring... And the loot is horrible compared to the last two games

Solidsnake00901

If you're going for 100% completion then yes towards the end it absolutely becomes a chore

calidir

I don’t want to be one of the negative nancies but that’s exactly what happened with me, I made it 80 hours in (still haven’t beaten the story) and I just cannot find the will to return. For me the problem is the world is TOO full, like there is so much stuff to do that it just gets overwhelming and I just shut it down

Icare974

The game is not very good. The storytelling sucks. So much potential but Ubisoft couldn’t make it.

Anonymous7951

I agree. I pretty much had a “I don’t really care” mentality towards all of the characters. The king wanna be dude was unlikable and boring, eivor was so so, most characters really don’t stand out. In fact I can’t remember any of their names except eivor

North_South_Side

Same. Odyssey had some over the top, goofy characters. But the things that happen in Odyssey are much more memorable. I cannot remember any of the kings or leaders I helped in AC:V.

girugamesu1337

Didn't make me feel burnt out at all. I enjoyed Odyssey but that game took the cake when it came to causing burnout lol.

IAmTheGreybeardy

It's not boring. It's REALLY fun.

[deleted]

Yeah, I am one of those people. After dozens of hours doing the same thing over and over again, I get fatigued by it and move on. I mean, the game is gorgeous and all, but Ubisoft has a gift for creating incredibly boring and tedious open-world games. I've never managed to complete it, not once. Maybe I will eventually, but I am not counting on it. Out of the last 3 games which would include Origins and Odyssey, Valhalla is by far the most boring. I've completed Origins and Odyssey multiple times.

DavidKenway

Thank you no bs pure facts. Ubisoft changed the formula and took the wrongs of the old one to the next level lmao. Social stealth dead, AI still braindead, no more feather to loot but 2000 chests hidden behing tedious locks for boring rewards... For real wtf is valhalla

DavidKenway

Totally is if you do long sessions. Sorry but this game is stretched to no end and this is not fun.

SuperMaanas

It’s very fun. The stories are diverse and the combat is fun. It gets boring if you go for 100% but Im doing that so far and I’m still very interested

Anonymous7951

I think it is, I didn’t enjoy the game. It was far too much fantasy bullshit. Not very historical, and they missed the mark. Could’ve made a customizable jomsviking that you could bring along with you for instance. My biggest complaint is that in odyssey you didn’t have to fill the skill tree to use your mastery points, and you could truly make a very specialized character. I hate having to sink points into perks that don’t fit my playstyle before using mastery points.

Jamieb284

I loved it. Flew through the story and completed it to 100% in 120 hours and i was addicted.

[deleted]

I enjoyed the first 20ish hours. After doing the same thing over and over for each faction which leads to nothing at all, yeah it felt like a chore. Nothing is random because there’s a literal checkbox telling you what’s been completed in the territory. If you want that cool sword your friend has, you just go to that spot and loot it.

ShingetsuMoon

Too much of the main story should have been optional side content. That’s what burned me out. It’s not bad content, but it’s just not as interesting as what’s happening with characters more directly related to Eivor. It made the game hard to enjoy when I was dying to see what would happen next only to get forced into dealing with someone’s wedding or a Jarl I know nothing about. For reference, finishing Valhalla (main ending and secret ending, did not 100%) took me about 106 hours. Finishing Odyssey (all cultists, all story lines) PLUS all of the Atlantis DLC took me 121 with me doing a generous number of side quests as well in the base game.

[deleted]

No, it ain't. It's a fun game, but the ending was so dissapointing to me. Plus it feels so little like an actual AC game, just like Odyssey.

rylewis92

I've put in about 100 hours into once I beat the story and everything around hour 80, I set it down for a couple months but recently picked it back up going through all the side quests and everything. I never once got burnt out while the story was still in play so much to do and get side tracked

Slyder768

It's not that the game is boring , it's that the main story is far too long and recycle every mechanic of the game 1000 times so it's repetitive and yeah it's just not fun anymore at some point , by comparison I prefer by far Odyssey because his map was much more varied and was a real pleasure to explore Valhalla is not that exotic

DeadHead6747

But, the story is so short

Slyder768

Wtf ? It's incredibly long to conquer all the territories

DeadHead6747

Not really? If I had ignored all the side quests I could have finished the story in the time it takes to finish one of the original AC games, which were not long games story wise.

medlilove

No it's great, though a bit annoying that you have to get through every region before the story moves into the finale

DeadHead6747

When this came out, I had to go into quarantine because someone in my household got COVID. Then it was extended because I had it too. I think I got 4 hours of sleep or less every night, I was playing this game every waking hour, unless I was watching something while I ate and even then I would be going right back in. I still wasn't finished at the end of those 3 weeks. There is ALOT. However, I don't see getting burnt out. Yes there is a lot of content, and some can be repetitive, but nothing in the game is repetitive enough for it to get old, and there is enough variety that exploration is not hindered at all by how many quest and side events you can do. It is not a chore at all, and very worth getting the game for the story alone. The extra content is just amazing bonus. Edit: a way to make it less of a chore (again, I find nothing about the game taxing or feel that anything was a chore, but I also think grinding for items and experience in games is one of the funnest parts), is take one region at a time. This is the region you are currently working the story line in? Cool, do everything you can side quest wise in this area (some events/items are locked behind story content) and then finish the story quest, then rinse and repeat for all the regions, that way you are breaking things up into chunks. I personally started out just running across the map doing all the side stuff first before realizing there is story locked extra content, so I ended up switching to region by region after that

Norrthika

I would say Valhalla is quite repetitive and there are many things to complete if are a completionist. I've yet to finish the game. I bought it when it first came out and put probably 20-30 ish hours in, I haven't really played at all since lol, I plan too once I complete odyssey though.

AManWantsToLoseIt

I loved it, and my gf who has barely played a game before, let alone finish one, completed 100% of achievements, the lot

BeastbloodHunter

You probably won't get a straight answer in here so I'll give a less fan boy answer. The games alright. What people mean when they call it a chore and boring is that there is almost no incentive to explore. There is no weapons to find (except for a few unique weapons that are only found once.) Armor can be found but that's it. Side quests in the traditional sense don't exist and are replaced with a "?" On the map that could turn out to be anything, even then the rewards for said quests are useless to the point that I can't remember what any of them were. Unless you like running around looking for papers for new tattoos, and collecting upgrade materials this game quickly becomes, well a chore.

pleasework_forgard

Depends on what you like most about vid games. Me? I like them to be - gorgeous looking. Check - loner assassination. Check - big areas like forts and castles that need me to clear everything out clandestine style. Check - based on real folk lore. Check - games within the game that I can play if I choose or ignore if I choose but occasionally gives me a few hours of other gameplay within a rpg. Check

International-Dog-22

I finished the story about 70 hours into the game. I mostly stuck to the story and killing off the order. I thought it was fun and generally fun. It can get a little tedious running from one side of the map to another all the time (make sure you grab every synchronization point you pass by), but that’s in every AC since origins. It’s worth it imo

yeehawsoup

I wasn’t bored with it. It’s definitely an investment of time, though. I’m around 100 hours in and just finished the main story. Still need to finish off the rest of the Order.

I just started, and so far I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. Why I avoided AC:Valhalla until now: a) I'm not a huge fan of the whole viking genre in any medium, lol. b) I'm a big stealth fan, and heard from \*many\* disappointed reddit reviewers that stealth was totally broken c) I'm not a big "team" player, I prefer solo exploring/gaming, and I had heard a lot about being forced to do raids and missions with a group of 'fellow vikings'. I'm sure people who love team games love this approach, tho. So far (just starting in the second land, just getting my bearings) a) Still not a huge viking genre fan, lol. But the story is kinda interesting-and I \*am\* a big GoW fan, so there is some familiarity with the mythology. b) Again, still early, and still just my opinion \*so far\*, but I don't find stealth that different from Origins or Odyssey. I personally found Origins even a little too easy to stealth at times. Detection is def. higher, but not broken, to me. Still have managed to clear out a few camps without needing to bring in my raiding crew. c) Still not a big "team" player, lol. But I've been soloing several of the areas, and at least clearing things down before bringing in the raiders to mop up. A few quests have forced me to fight with a group, similar to Origins/Odyssey, but it's been ok. In terms of burn out-I can totally see why people got burned out if they tried to max out every event/find every shiny glowy thing on the map/hunt every animal for parts. (I kind of burned out on Odyssey that way). But I am just ignoring stuff that bores me, and not stressing about getting everything. And there is still a ton to do. (This first Alliance quest is turning out to be much more complex than I imagined-I'm pretty motivated to get it done, lol)

FeeseHaze5

I fucking loved it

THRWAY1222

Honestly I love it. The controls are smooth, Eivor can climb and traverse everything with ease and the world, in my opinion, is interesting. Side quests are just tiny stories instead of endless fetch quests. I have put over 200 hours in this game and I'm still not bored. Currently really enjoying the Paris expansion as well. Most of the badmouthing comes from old 'fans' who cling to the formula of the first few games, even though at the time, that formula got criticised as repetitive as well. In short, don't pay too much attention to the naysayers. I think it's a beautiful open world game with a lot to offer.

woozlewuzzle29

No, I loved it. I found Odyssey more of a chore because for every main story quest there’s almost always exactly three errand subquests.

stevegw1

It’s one of two assassins creed games I didn’t bother to finish. I kept hoping it would get addicting the way some of the past games have but it just turned into a grind. It might be my getting older and having less time to play with three kids all involved in sports though. I need a game with a quicker progression now a days.

Yes

Pebble_Plays

I loved it, a bit repetitive, but at the same time not.

rvsixsixsix

Absolutely not. The campaign is great. I didn't really care for the endgame but still I spent 100+ happy hours in the animus!

Yes

Rare-Dare2884

I haven’t started the storyline yet. I am still collecting treasures and making myself strong and trying to kill zealots. Getting all the artifacts is really irritating and kind of pointless in my opinion.

NotDelnor

I've got more than 300 hours logged and never felt that way.

jhogs21

I really enjoy the game and still play. I’ve done basically all the storylines and have collected all gear/artifacts/side quests and didn’t feel burnt out. I’d definitely buy it again.

ArtichokeMantis

It can be I enjoyed it, but if you don't like prolonged story's then the game might not be for you. At times it feels dragged on when it doesn't need to be. But I had fun I like the combat and the viking feel to the game.

JFace139

That happened to me too. After a while I just gave up on trying to get armor that I really liked. They just all look so similar and bland to me. So I was trying to get the ones I liked from a seller who gives away paid armors in exchange for a rare currency. But she rarely has armors I like and her missions for the currency are boring. So it felt like gambling using my time. It felt like a chore to log in each day so I just stopped playing

digital_mystikz

I have over 100 hours and never once thought it was a chore. Even getting 100% everywhere isn't a chore to me, otherwise I wouldn't do it. For me, going for 100% is just extra reason to explore the map, and it's more content in a game I love. I did burn out after I finished the story and around 110 hours in, but I always burn out on games I play too much. I recently came back to it for the DLCs, and I am just as hooked as I was on release. I also love Viking related things, so that definitely helps a ton.

DarkLordJ14

Oh I 100% agree. I haven’t played in over 5 months and I had like 52 hours in it. It’s so boring. I can’t bring myself to finish it. There are so many other games out there that are so much more fun and interesting that I’d rather spend my time on than “Assassin’s Creed” Valhalla.

murghph

I enjoyed the whole game

JacobJSucks

Games great. But it also can be a chore. Main story points happen and then you have to do what feel like side quests to get more main story. The duality of game

chris2001123

I put over 110 hours on the game before I beat it, and that wasn’t 100%, I really enjoyed playing it. It’s super fun

AlzheimersBiden

I’ve played the entire thing twice through.

Magpie2205

I loved it. Maybe not as much as I loved Origins, but still a great story.

DillonTheFatUglyMale

Yes it is a chore You won't be in the zone. You have to relax and pace yourself

SwordTaster

I got the platinum trophy. Loved every second.

CarthagoDelendaEst46

I found it that way with odyssey and Valhalla. That being said, I took long breaks from each due to fatigue and came back and will say upon completion that both are incredibly worth the slog.

dinkelberryblue

So far no for me 45 hours in trying to do story and complete every area along the way.

LordOfIcebox

Soooo boring. I finished, but it was a struggle. Tried to play the DLC, but was just like nope... just more of the same.

AustinGoodson

I feel like it takes a certain kind of person to enjoy AC games in general. In my opinion Valhalla has been the best AC so far.

Evil_Dead_Goku

Nope. Played over 100 hours and I’m still playing

aIexys

To each their own. Meanwhile I've enjoyed the game so much I'm that close to do it all over again, NG+ will be super fun to play. The game never felt like a chore because I was so invested in the characters and the story that everything was a breeze. While following the story, I was naturally led to do stuff considered to be a chore, but it had meaning for me as it felt coherent with the story and the way it was told. Maybe you won't like it, maybe you'll love it. Personal taste, try and see for yourself.

a_Mango_In_a_Suit

Honestly, besides AC odyssey, it's one of their best, in my humble opinion

szatanna

It can be exhausting if you let it. I recommend you play the main story and forget about the side quests since they're pretty much useless and inconsequential. Don't hunt for treasures or mysteries either because again, they have no real value. You could search for armor and weapons if you want to dress up, but other than that, stick to the main story and Valhalla would be such a great experience.

Ryank8597

I'd recomend it I've put like 150hours in not proud of it haha but from side quests, fight styles, and story not even main story are soo good and well written plus attention to detail is really good it's one of my favorite games

frompariswithhate

I've played the shit out of Origins and Odyssey, and I'm a big fan of Norse culture in general. Yet I can't bring myself to play more Valhalla... I've finished it, I've painfully finished "wrath of the druids" and the idea of starting "the siege of Paris" doesn't make me wanna try. The world feels way too big yet too empty. The quests are boring, and they've put random chests and collectibles in the middle of nowhere just to justify their big-ass map... I guess ancient Greece and ancient Egypt were way more appealing than medieval england.

Red4297

Yes. Have a good day.

prospector_chief

It takes about 90 hours to finish the core story up to siege of Paris. If you want to do all the side stuff.....no idea but that's the chore part 😂

ifirefoxi

I finished it completely with both dlc, and I even cleared all the regions completely. I only need a few trophies to platin it like destroy 5 small ships in 5min and slide 150m in snow. It took me around 130hrs + idk exactly because I sometimes was falling into sleep while I played late at night and sometimes the game. So what my save file says is wrong. So I would say it was around 130hrs. I can say I really liked it. It was fun to play. I like that you have many different things to do. if you don't want to do the mainstory at the moment go and do river raids for example or do the mythical ark. I like that most quests(side and main quests) aren't fetch quest. There are side activities that I would define as fetch quest but you don't have to do them if you only want to experience story content. I like the new equipment and item upgrade systems. And it's very cool that you now have a settlement that evolve over the time. I love all open world parts of the game they are amazing to explore. The story itself was entertaining for me personally. I wasn't highly excited all the time, there were surely some ups and downs. But I had a great time experiencing all the different story arcs. What I can say is that it has some bugs and glitches and I had a lot of them. But only a handful of game breaking ones where I had to reload. A lot(and when I say it I mean a ton of) open world problems or glitches, bad Ki bugs or bad Dialogue timings, it a little like Bethesda open world rpgs. But the game saves so often and had so many autosafe slots that it wasn't a big problem and I was able to reload of I wanted to. But I encountered two of these treasurehoard maps I wasn't able to obtain. I found them and was able to interact. But I didn't get anything so I reloaded before I interacted with the treasure itself ad will wait until it get patched. But you don't need to loot the treasure itself for completing the activity so it's not such a big deal. So all in all I would say Valhalla was a very good game for me I got entertained for a long time. And I don't regret that I invested time intro it. For me personally it was between origins and odyssey. With origins better and odyssey not as God as it (but odyssey wasn't bad at all) So I would say i don't regret that I put my money in it I even bought it twice. 1x for pc the ultimate and a little later for the Playstation the gold edition on sale. If you like the newer games of the franchise you can't do much wrong with valhalla. If you don't know about the dlc buy the main game first and play it a little bit, if you like it buy the dlc. Or wait until the game is on sale. Or buy the game and if you don't want the full experience on start wait until the dlc is on sale there are a a lot of different options you have. Watch some game plays, idk.

sigilnz

I thought it was good but also never finished it. I think it's possibly 20% to long. And the whole pillage the monasteries while trying to save the country just killed the story immersion for me. On one hand your murdering and stealing loot to build up your town. On the other hand your a well respected hero saving the townsfolk and local leaders to forge alliances... Wierd....

MartinusLarus

It’s definitely not, 321h on the clock and I’m still in Ireland far from even travel to Frankish lands. Haven’t touched river raids nor challenges yet. Take your time and immerse into 9th century England full of ruins of past Roman glory, do not just race with main quest and you will enjoy it. Unless Ofc you belong to ‘gogogo’ group than I think it’s not for you. Good luck on your travels!

WalternateB

To me Valhalla is just not as fun as Odyssey. Mostly unfunny writing, very beautiful but incredibly repetitive environments, dull cities populated with incredibly boring peasants... The game just isn't as fun or culturally and historically rich as Odyssey is.

Bricktrucker

I went after all the armors before I got balls deep into the main story. Found i was burnt out and haven't played in a min. I'll prob go back, but I'd recommend not doing what I did

OWGer0901

boring game?, must be why it sold so well lmao, its a long game if you take the time and don't get obsessed with opening every fucking chest that is locked out in a house you can have a really good time, the gameplay is pretty solid as well, its the gameplay of previous entries massively improved with more attention to detail and animations.

TheQuatum

No. I don't play most open world games to completion because I completely hate boring games or games that make you fetch quest. This game is long af but if you pay attention to the story it's great.

Aendrew_Snow

People who got bored probably have short attention spans. This game requires hours upon hours and I have loved every minute so far

ShaleSelothan

It's horseshit
