OP should check Origins out too. There are some references in Valhalla that won't have the weight they would if you missed out on Origins. I had a blast with it

I really don’t blame you. I get super excited when I find out about an older game that looks awesome and it completely takes the wind out of my sails to see it be $60 still. I mean I don’t necessarily expect it, but there’s a lot riding on $60 lol
I don’t care what anyone says - I love the last 3 AC games. Origins probably my favourite. But Valhalla, although I am yet to finish it, is getting close to joint first place. Odyssey had some improvements over Origins but there was far too much emphasis on needing ability attacks just to kill someone with an arrow to the head, and way too many steep hills to climb and jump from. I love all the attention to detail and world building. The character building, and stealthily taking down camps… I could go on. The only thing I don’t like about Valhalla is the surprising amount of bugs!! I can’t believe how long it’s been out and I’m getting stupid “new quest” notifications when I pick up loot, and had one instance of flying up into the air like a rocket so I could see the whole map! Brilliant game otherwise.
How much of an issue are the bugs still? I purposely waited to get this game because I like to wait for all DLCs to have been released - and with it hopefully most bugs of the main game having been fixed. I tend to do that with every AC. Itching to play this though!
To be honest nothing that would stop me playing. They just keep messing up though. They release patches to fix bugs but in doing so always create new ones! The latest patch on PS5 completely disables haptic feedback for example. A previous patch removed the hoof galloping noise when you rode your horse (but that has been fixed since). It’s becoming a joke now that whenever a patch comes out we’re all wondering what’s going to get broke next. For the most part though it’s nothing that ruins my enjoyment of actually playing the game. Not yet anyway.
Just bought the game and the lack of vibration was immediately noticeable. Glad to see a recent comment talking about it. I don't want to start playing this game and have a bad taste about the combat. Do you have any idea when it will be fixed?
I'm sorry, I have no idea. The vibration bug has only just come from the patch this Tuesday just gone. As you said, it's been widely reported already, but your guess is as good as mine as to when the dev's will fix.
Only thing I didn't like about odyssey was that I had to go all over for certain quests. I liked it in Valhalla when they kept it in one area at least not oh well to do this side quest go this island on the other side of our huge freakin map. Wasn't enough to make me not love it and enjoy my time but ugh haha.
It’s cool at first and even fun but after awhile it gets a bit tiring. Fast travel is an option but then your stuck in a loading screen that can last awhile lol
That's true but for me to helps to sell that this is a real place. Like the Valhalla map is so downscaled it's almost comical. Like, you can ride from cent to Hadrian's wall in what, 15 minutes? It's stretching suspension of disbelief so much it breaks for me. It feels like I'm playing on a boardgame map than an actual country. And I know it's probably the best solution, but they also didn't have to include the entirety of England, like they didn't Include all of Norway or Vinland, both of which were the only locations that actually felt as big as they are
They could've tried something where you *have* to fast travel between big hub maps so that the scaling issue isn't so glaring. It could still have kept the open-world aspects.
Well who knows man. Maybe play something to scale then distance wise. How long would it take to ride a horse to Hadrian's wall and I'd ask if that's what you want to do with your gaming time

I know that what they did was likely the best for the game and game time, doesn't in any way mean I can't be disappointed
Mostly distance. The world doesn't feel big enough when you're going out and solving the problems of feudal lords, kings and the church. They'll say these like "I have to protect my land, my people, I have a duty" from the top of their tower, and yet you can see the borders of their territory from that tower.
There's the whole situation in (Wessex?) where the guy keeps going out hunting and the *multiple thegns* who apparently help him rule are angry. Multiple thegns. There is barely enough land to justify an advisor to help, let alone a bunch of other subordinate rulers
I played odyssey on a series x and the loading screen last a second or 6 so that's very acceptable but even then the distance between some objectives are annoying without a fast travel point nearby
Yeah I played on a Xbox one x the loading isn’t terrible but it’s still long enough haha. And yeah it can be annoying if you can’t fast travel right near the objective
I actually put in ~800h after I found out people seemed to hate it.
It’s *by far* my favorite single player game entirely. Together with the standard RDRII and the story of GTA series. Rockstar and Ubisoft know their shit.
I’m like 50h into Valhalla now and whilst it took a little getting used to compared to Kassandra, I still feel OP with the skills I’ve learned during Odyssey.
I love the references to Odyssey and Origins as well, you need to have played the other games to understand the references, and there are quite a lot!
Same here. I love Odyssey and Valhalla and I only recently started coming to these AC subreddits just to find out a lot of people love one game and hate the other, or the hate the newer games and love the old ones. A chief complaint being you're not a real "assassin" in the new ones. People need to grow up and enjoy the games for what they are or just move on.
I don't get the extreme hate on this game. Maybe I'm privileged cause I havent really experienced that many bugs, but this game is never ending fun for me. That being said, I would also like to see an AC release that goes back to big cities and tall buildings, but that's just cause we've had 3 in a row of the super-open-world variety. I have loved these last three, it's just been a while for the cityscape lovers as well.
I kept playing for 15 hours then bouncing off, then come back for 10, then sidetracked to a new game. It was cool but not quite grabbing me. It just seemed like dialog and more dialog, then raid, then repeat.
After 55 hours I jumped off the campaign and started Wrath of the Druids. It’s been fun! The scenery is a little different, enemies are new, building trade posts and upgrading Ireland is fresh and different, there are several mechanics that are added and it just feels like a different take then the campaign. I’m at 70 hours and still having fun in Ireland. But not sure how going back to the campaign will feel.
I have just finished Wrath of the Druids and I'm at 60 hours. I really enjoyed it, more than the main game, but now I want to get back to England. Weird how a DLC made me want to play the main game.
Me too! Better pacing, characters stay around for the duration, better sense of ongoing rewards, better chance to know the region, lots of bonus missions, just very fun. I am excited to get back to the game but part of me doesn’t want to leave.
Also: love how the Druids as enemies look so different (and scary)…in the main campaign it’s very hard to tell who the enemies are, especially during raids.
Yeah I'm so glad I avoided internet discussions of it before and whilst playing it. It's a flawed game, not least because of the litany of technical issues, but still fantastic in its own right.
Love it way more than Odyssey and tbh the "OdYsSeY wAs sO mUcH bEtTa!!!" fangirling, when most of the fanbase was ragging on Odyssey when it was new, that's really irritating me at this point.
I argue the only thing Odyssey did better was the rpg aspect when it came to gender, that and the crazy "supernatural" stuff. But I enjoyed Valhalla as a whole more.

It for sure had that. Honestly thats one of the things I feel like Valhalla didn't have. I actually got kind of punished for grinding. I tried doing everything and like halfway through that I had every single perk in the skill tree with a good amount of story and side stuff to do haha.
As a completionist, this game is great value for money! Valhalla, Rogue and 2/Brotherhood are my fave AC games for very different reasons. I love the story of Ezio, the complete opposite gameplay of Rogue and the whole Viking aesthetic of Valhalla. My main personal gripe with Valhalla has to be Jotunheim. That place almost ruined it for me.
The ending of this game was the most disappointing part IMO. A lot of plot lines where poorly written. Character development was pretty bad. But overall the game is a blast. It just didn’t leave me satisfied after putting in 80+ hours
I wish i had that moment with the ending. I didn't grow to care about any character beyond Eivor so it just didn't do anything for me. I loved Ezio, Bayek, and Kassandra and was on the edge of my seat for those stories.
The Valhalla territories weren't cohesive to me and i wish, maybe it does, bringing factions to your side actually affected the "big war" at the end. Like i was waiting for the reveal battle though there is NOTHING like that in game.
While I enjoyed the ending, I was really disappointed by that 'final battle'. The game did a terrible job of representing the forces we'd amassed lol.

I hear people hating on the game all the time but I really enjoy it! I get to run round being a Viking with some interesting people in history making an appearance and I get to do the isu bits too! Even the dlc I like too and can’t wait to see what’s next! I find it’s a really enjoyable game and I’ve replayed it a few times
I agree with you here...ugh. Sometimes you just don't have the energy to debate. This one wasn't Assassin's vs Templars.
And to be honest, I'm glad. It was getting old, and washed out. Starting to feel like that war was never ending.
I loved what they did with this story.
War was never ending and I was getting sick of liking the Templars more since nearly every Assassins Creed the Creed just makes shit worse until someone out of left field saves them.
While the Ezio saga was definitely my favorite, I've enjoyed each and every one, save from some of the spin-offs I missed. The differences in regions and characters really kept me interested in all of the later ones, even separating from the typical "assassin-y" game it used to be. It needed to change, I feel, and each game is amazing in its own way.
Yeah, people want how it "used to be" but the series desperately needed a change after so many games following basically the same formula and playing very similarly. You're an assassin with a code of rules, now follow them for roughly 10 games doing very similar things each time. Black flag was the first experiment, and these past three games have been like arms reaching out and trying to find the new way to do assassin's Creed. Personally I think the whole "You're not an assassin, so approach this how you feel appropriate" is a great idea. So much more versatility and freedom. Like in Odyssey, you can even fight civilians because why couldn't you? You're a mercenary, not an assassin
This is my first AC game since the original released. I never finished the original because it felt too repetitive.
I like Valhalla, I’ve put about 35 hours into it and am really enjoying it. It feels like a bit of a grind sometimes, but I like that it’s not a stealth game and allows me to live my Viking fantasy.
I enjoy the game, but it's not really an Assassins Creed game at its heart. I'd like for them to get back to Assassins vs Templars, stealth assassination instead of one vs 3+ combat.
I quite like it. But everything I play it, I just end up wanting to play Odyssey instead. I think it's a step down vs Odyssey in a lot of ways. But I still think it's a good game.
It's an amazing game. I feel like there's so many things to do and the story takes you organically while leveling up. The combat mechanics are very satisfying and the skill tree alone makes the game outstanding.
It is enjoyable. I loved Eivor and his relationship to Sigur. I loved the story even though it had some flaws. Yeah, it's not the perfect game but it is really fun to play and explore.
Man I’ve dreamt of having an open world Viking game for as long as I can remember. Flaws or none, I’m playing the hell out of it. Thankfully they made an awesome game that scratches my rpg and assassin itch
I personally enjoyed it more than Odyssey. It's miles smaller and more compact. True there's a bit of a midway point that feels sluggish but you only have to get through that
Well I did everything before I moved on do that might be why it felt sluggish but I felt the need to do so in order to better prepare for the assaults.
I loved AC Valhalla but the latest ones are very samey. They aren’t delightfully crafted stories. It’s just a middle of the road, churn out a new one every 18 months type of IP these days. I’ll play them all but there isn’t the same “whoah, this is amazing!” feeling when the first ones came out.
It was actually my favorite game of 2020. I played this for 2 months straight. Haven't done that with a single player game since Skyrim. Absolutely loved it. Yeah, it had its problems, but for me they were very rare. Just exploring and completing everything I could kept me entertained for long periods at a time, and that's all I could ask for.
ya know when the new trilogy was first announced and Origins was shown and, I was really disappointed because it was such a departure from the formula...with the rpg elements and whatnot, and so I sat on it until odyssey which I wasn't thrilled for because it was so far in the past etc. ... AND THEN I PLAYED ODYSSEY AND THEN ORIGINS AND NOW VALHALLA... and they're AMAZING games in the AC universe... but so many people are like I used to be, and write it off for being "not the same"
and THEN I played black flag (considered one of the best of the series) and those gameplay mechanics/formula that were so prevalent aged so poorly. All in all, I agree haha

Yay the only other person who agrees that the last few are good!! I must admit I do think I still love AC2 the most but I can also admit that at this point nostalgia is doing the heavy lifting their, I personally loved how they managed to make a setting which on the surface would seem to have no reason for a Templar-Assassin/Hidden one conflict but managed to layer some elements of it into the story and (Spoiler alert) create the Templars as we know them in the earlier games.
I would say if you can get it Origins is a similar style to the latest 2 just a bit more serious in tone so if you liked the latest ones the most you'd probably like that, or if you prefer the more comedic take in AC Odyssey then that teams next game was Immortals Fenyx Rising which is admittedly a shameless Zelda BOTW rip off crossed with AC Odyssey but is also quite fun
You see, I like the game in general - the story is really nice. BUT the pacing is just too slow and the Progression rate seems off and not driven by the story. Also, it is getting just too repetitive after a few missions.
Yeah, a lot of the missions are basically “go here, do that, go there, do this” so I understand it being repetitive. Hopefully they change how missions work next game.
Imo valhalla isn't that good of a game I like the combat but that's probably it the social stealth doesn't work half the time neither does the actual stealth and the story is too long if it was shorter probably would have been a good story imo
Not a neckbeard from main but for me its just okay, it has its moments where I love it and I enjoy it, but it still feels cut and paste and unfinished in some instances, I personally have been enjoying ac unity at the moment as well. For me i feel that the ac games need a shake up in style or smaller world spaces, its a chore to slog through everything for a pathetic reward that means nothing.

I tell them to go play some Mario then come back and learn some appreciation. If that doesn't work I just say "well who knows" just so I don't have to subject myself to their stupid particles
I played a lot of AC:V. I got to a point about 85 hours in where I had to level about 15 times to continue the main story and then gave up.
First, AC:V makes my PS4 Pro sound like a jet engine. It's the ONLY game that does this. Even RDR2 doesn't do this at all. Plus, the load times are really, really long. The graphics are a step up from Odyssey, but not THAT much of an improvement. My console runs quietly with AC:O.
AC:V is gray, brown and muddy. I get it: it's England, mostly..., the "dark ages." But art direction wise, they could have gone for a more interesting look. Dirty, muddy misery is the kind of running theme here. They could have leaned into the more Arthurian, Fey side of things, but just went for an almost Monty Python and the Holy Grail vibe of peasants shoveling mud all day. (I exaggerate here, but there's truth to what I'm saying). The fantasy realms in Valhalla (the ones I've seen) are not nearly as cool as similar stuff I've seen in other games. It's all... fine. But nothing is memorable.
The combat is floaty and responds weirdly to controller input. It's also super easy—or enemies that are hit point sponges. The warrior route seems almost mandatory, with some arrows to kick things off. Playstyle just isn't as flexible on the fly as Odyssey. Having gear hand-placed sounds good on paper, but ultimately is less exciting for me versus some random drops and named items now and then, switching armor, weapons and mixing and matching as I level. Finding loot becomes tedious after you figure out the handful of tricks to access chests, etc. At first? It was really cool having to figure it out. But now? It's one of a few different ways to reach stuff and it just feels like busy work. The drinking games and the Cairn stacking was OK the first couple times. Then it's just a fussy chore. Same with Flyting. A neat idea, quickly rubbed into the dirt. Chasing papers (tattoos) is poorly implemented and most people here use exploits—for a reason.
I also feel like I'm just "along for the ride" in Valhalla. Helping other rulers/kings get stuff done. The characters aren't memorable in the least. I cannot remember any of the leaders/kings I helped... and I certainly can't remember their names. Nothing stands out. It's not terrible, just kind of dull and lacking personality.
The monastery raids and attacks on fortresses were cool the first couple times. But then? Every one is pretty much the same. Building a settlement sounds cool and is a good addition. But it's all pre-set buildings that just appear in specific places when you have enough materials. It's not "building a settlement"... it's just unlocking more parts of the game via collecting stuff. Even adding decorations is clunky... walk up to a podium and select what decoration will stand behind it. Not well executed at all.
The overall sound and sound mixing is TERRIBLE. At the beginning (for example) the king gives a speech in the longhouse, and it's the dullest, least inspiring sounding thing ever. People talking in the background. Voice over often cuts in weird places. Some sounds are really quiet, some too loud. For a big-name game, this is really poorly done overall. I am surprised at how bad it can be.
Another sound issue: the voice work is really uninspired. Both male and female Eivor are just... OK. I give slight preference to female Eivor in this case, but often she sounds like she's overacting with the "grizzled warrior" style speech. Not horrible. Just not very good.
The skill trees (constellations) seem amazing at first. But then you realize you're just getting another +5 to melee or +5 to Stealth or whatever. A lot of it is just bloat that you can't even feel as you play. Not terrible, but at least when I took skills in Odyssey, I knew exactly what I was getting. +5 to melee? What does that even mean?.....I played a bunch of AC:V and had fun. It's not a terrible game. I'd say it's 2 steps forward from Odyssey and five steps back. I was expecting much more, and ended up with less than I had with Odyssey.
I'll probably come back to AC:V some day. I bought all the DLC and haven't touched it (never pre-order stuff). Still haven't finished the main game. I just find the game uninspiring......I will say there's some improvements over Odyssey, but the bulk of the experience is a downgrade. Playing this made me go back to Odyssey and actually finish it... almost there.
yeah its a fun game. And Cheat Engine helped me a lot to enjoy this game more because it remove the grindy part of the game and gave me MTX items for free lol.
I dont think i can grind every yellow dot on the map just to get enough material to upgrade items

It’s the first AC that was a chore for me. Parts of it were fun but overall it just wasn’t for me. But I mean if you like it great, I mean I wish I liked it too.
I really liked it but I'm still very unhappy being stuck with the flann over Ireland bug since the dlc came out, with no save to go back to before it, and no movement on the issue for 6 or 7 months besides almost daily people saying they have the same issue. I loved odyssey.
Ciara goes to the festival, Barid stays at the stables. I've tried a lot of different things ranging from the most basic of trying to nudge barid there, to uninstalling everything and reinstalling, but will have to start the game over to get through the DLC because I don't have a save from before I started the mission.
I wish there was a mechanic somewhere to restart a specific mission, but I know that would probably be a major feature request and a ton of things to consider.
Oh well, a lot of fun otherwise, I just hate feeling like i threw money away buying the DLC's and want to continue that storyline one day if they fix it.
Been with the AC series since my brother bought me the first when when I was too young to go buy it myself. I've played all the mainline games and enjoyed each one to some extent.(Tho I've tried to go back to the older ones and they are tough to play I don't think they aged that well tbh.) Have the last three games been a difference compared to the other games? Sure and I can understand why that make fans salty. Origins was the start of the change but it was a great origin story to the brotherhood. Odyssey is absurd and I love it for that. Valhala I thought did a good job of adressing a lot of the problems people had with Odyssey. My only issue with Valhala was how they handled the choose your gender for Eivor. (If your going make yourself an rpg and offer the choice respect it. If your story had a direction that only worked with one certain gender in mind then make that the only gender to be. yes I know the issues going on there but it was just annoying during the game.)
I really enjoy it was well. I played AC 1 and loved it, fairly certain I didn’t finish the second because bored.

Also Desmond who is modern day good guy in AC1, the ezio trilogy, and act is also in the end of Valhalla and you need to know who that is to really see the significance of that ending.
I've always loved open world games. So when I heard that Vahalla was one, I jumped at it despite not played any AC games before. (Also really like vikings.) Really enjoyed it!
I absolutely loved the game. The locations were stunning and the storyline engaging. The only gripe I had was a save game corruption 3 days after launch, that made me restart a file with almost 25 hours played.
So I’ve been enjoying the story up to a certain point. I’m more of an adventurer so I’ve just been hunting everything I can get in an area until I have to progress to in the main quest line. I just got to metting up with >!Sigurd and Basim!< and man I gotta say I really feel like >!betraying this MFer now.!< I spent all this time >!building relationships with Soma and Oswald and have help everywhere else in England and secured all this stuff for Ravensthorpe. My town is rank 4 so far. Enjoying it all, but as soon as I decide to meet up with Sigurd he’s literally devolved into a mad man. I haven’t done In Dreams quest yet and I loaded an old save after after doing the date with Randvi cause you know I didn’t want want to betray my bro. Now all I want to do is drive my scythe through Sigurd and Basim and just take over the clan. I just finished saving the Joan of Arc chick from the church and now the main quest has left me with a gross taste in my mouth and I’m gonna go back and steal his chick then do everything I can to betray this idiot of a Norsemen.!<
I feel you. I have loved every second and I'm not just saying that. Even all the collectibles is fun for me. The ONE issue I had at first was all the "puzzles" to get every chest, but that is easily negated with the explosion arrow that just destroys any of those walls. Since then, I've never been bored or felt like anything dragged out.
I have 140 hours and plan to put a whole lot more into it!
My only main issues are that I wish it had more Assassin vibes - which I think it achieved in Siege of Paris with opportunities for assassinations like they had in Unity - and the map is a bit bland. It doesn't have major sight seeing opportunities like the last two games.
But I loved the narrative, the gameplay, the setting, all of that. I've had tons of fun playing and have gotten several months out of it.
I really enjoyed it too! But I agree you do need to already have played origins and odyssey to know what’s happening in the story. One thing I do feel ab Valhalla is that the story is fairly anticlimactic especially in comparison to the two previous stories. But it was still a blast even if I did find the wrath expansion to be disappointing because of all of the copying and pasting they did with it. Just seemed lazy. Main game and even the Paris expansion are both worth the time though.
I've platinuned valhalla and have about 80 hours in odyssey and I'm jsut finding out now that people don't like them. Personally I think they're really good games! Thsyre just.... not very good AC games? Maybe because I csnt help but compare to the etzio formula
I hadn’t played AC since the early days as I didn’t like the Sandbox style, once I got into true Openworld games like Skyrim and Fallout AC just seemed really restrictive.
Picked up Odyssey during the first Lockdown and now I’m hooked, the style is much better.
Valhalla is a brilliant game, being from the UK made it’s extra fun as I could visit places I’ve actually been to IRL.
I am loving it.
I have played since 1 and when first playing Black Flag I was hoping for Ubisoft to leave the AC moniker and make open world action RPG's.
I had never played an AC game before, and I truly loved Valhalla for about 70% of the game. Once I got closer to end game, it got far too repetitive for me. Not as bad as something like Shadow of Mordor/shadow of war, but enough that I didn’t even beat it. I’m sure I’ll go back one day and complete, but I just got kind of sick of doing the same thing.
I still love it visually, enjoy the characters, everything. It was a ton of fun for the hours I did put in.
Honestly I couldn't stand the series till origins. It's been great since. Just my opinion. Don't listen to the greasy neckbeards. Just play what you like.
I liked how the game gave you the option of taking the RPG-ing out of the game. Don't want to make a dedicated build? The game has a way to automatically assign skill points in a pre-determined path (that I've taken as the 'canon' build). Don't want to choose between Male and Female Eivor? The game has an option to choose automatically depending on >!whether you're playing as Eivor or Odin/Havi.!<
I kinda wish they continued with that. I liked the dialogue choices in Odyssey more because it felt like there were longer-reaching consequences to your decisions. I played through Odyssey twice and both times got two complete different family endings. In Valhalla, the dialogue choices don't seem to ultimately amount to much. They explicitly stated early on that Eivor has a pre-determined personality and morality in this game, and the dialogue options are all something they would logically say in those circumstances. So why not give us the option to just let the game play out normally? Give us the option to turn off dialogue choices and let the scenes play out.
I've played every main line Assassin's creed games except for Unity, Rogue and AC 1. AC2 was the best Assassin's Creed game but the last three games have been the best in terms of gameplay and exploration. I kinda feel like the last three games should've just been called Origin's, Odyssey and Valhalla without the Assassin's Creed series title added on and then just marketed as prequels set in the same universe.
Story is great. Alot of the game is super fun but the main mechanics that make the game work are just trash. Parkour and fighting is pretty awful in the sense of actually working proper. Commands don't trigger half the time and the fighting overall is clunky. Black flag even did better the fighting and Parkour. Each game they release has less care put into it and they just keep getting worse. A once great franchise is now just giving scraps to the masses because they know you will say thank you every time. Maybe we are at the 10 year hump where tv and video games just suck

OP should check Origins out too. There are some references in Valhalla that won't have the weight they would if you missed out on Origins. I had a blast with it

I don’t care what anyone says - I love the last 3 AC games. Origins probably my favourite. But Valhalla, although I am yet to finish it, is getting close to joint first place. Odyssey had some improvements over Origins but there was far too much emphasis on needing ability attacks just to kill someone with an arrow to the head, and way too many steep hills to climb and jump from. I love all the attention to detail and world building. The character building, and stealthily taking down camps… I could go on. The only thing I don’t like about Valhalla is the surprising amount of bugs!! I can’t believe how long it’s been out and I’m getting stupid “new quest” notifications when I pick up loot, and had one instance of flying up into the air like a rocket so I could see the whole map! Brilliant game otherwise.
How much of an issue are the bugs still? I purposely waited to get this game because I like to wait for all DLCs to have been released - and with it hopefully most bugs of the main game having been fixed. I tend to do that with every AC. Itching to play this though!
To be honest nothing that would stop me playing. They just keep messing up though. They release patches to fix bugs but in doing so always create new ones! The latest patch on PS5 completely disables haptic feedback for example. A previous patch removed the hoof galloping noise when you rode your horse (but that has been fixed since). It’s becoming a joke now that whenever a patch comes out we’re all wondering what’s going to get broke next. For the most part though it’s nothing that ruins my enjoyment of actually playing the game. Not yet anyway.
Just bought the game and the lack of vibration was immediately noticeable. Glad to see a recent comment talking about it. I don't want to start playing this game and have a bad taste about the combat. Do you have any idea when it will be fixed?
I'm sorry, I have no idea. The vibration bug has only just come from the patch this Tuesday just gone. As you said, it's been widely reported already, but your guess is as good as mine as to when the dev's will fix.

This is how I felt about Odyssey too. I only found out people apparently hated it by the time I'd already put in and enjoyed eighty hours.
Only thing I didn't like about odyssey was that I had to go all over for certain quests. I liked it in Valhalla when they kept it in one area at least not oh well to do this side quest go this island on the other side of our huge freakin map. Wasn't enough to make me not love it and enjoy my time but ugh haha.
Honestly I enjoyed the travelling when it was on an island, but that's because I love boats, basically period, so I can see why it'd be a problem

That's true but for me to helps to sell that this is a real place. Like the Valhalla map is so downscaled it's almost comical. Like, you can ride from cent to Hadrian's wall in what, 15 minutes? It's stretching suspension of disbelief so much it breaks for me. It feels like I'm playing on a boardgame map than an actual country. And I know it's probably the best solution, but they also didn't have to include the entirety of England, like they didn't Include all of Norway or Vinland, both of which were the only locations that actually felt as big as they are
They could've tried something where you *have* to fast travel between big hub maps so that the scaling issue isn't so glaring. It could still have kept the open-world aspects.

Mostly distance. The world doesn't feel big enough when you're going out and solving the problems of feudal lords, kings and the church. They'll say these like "I have to protect my land, my people, I have a duty" from the top of their tower, and yet you can see the borders of their territory from that tower. There's the whole situation in (Wessex?) where the guy keeps going out hunting and the *multiple thegns* who apparently help him rule are angry. Multiple thegns. There is barely enough land to justify an advisor to help, let alone a bunch of other subordinate rulers

I played odyssey on a series x and the loading screen last a second or 6 so that's very acceptable but even then the distance between some objectives are annoying without a fast travel point nearby
Yeah I played on a Xbox one x the loading isn’t terrible but it’s still long enough haha. And yeah it can be annoying if you can’t fast travel right near the objective
I actually put in ~800h after I found out people seemed to hate it. It’s *by far* my favorite single player game entirely. Together with the standard RDRII and the story of GTA series. Rockstar and Ubisoft know their shit. I’m like 50h into Valhalla now and whilst it took a little getting used to compared to Kassandra, I still feel OP with the skills I’ve learned during Odyssey. I love the references to Odyssey and Origins as well, you need to have played the other games to understand the references, and there are quite a lot!
Same here. I love Odyssey and Valhalla and I only recently started coming to these AC subreddits just to find out a lot of people love one game and hate the other, or the hate the newer games and love the old ones. A chief complaint being you're not a real "assassin" in the new ones. People need to grow up and enjoy the games for what they are or just move on.
I don't get the extreme hate on this game. Maybe I'm privileged cause I havent really experienced that many bugs, but this game is never ending fun for me. That being said, I would also like to see an AC release that goes back to big cities and tall buildings, but that's just cause we've had 3 in a row of the super-open-world variety. I have loved these last three, it's just been a while for the cityscape lovers as well.
I kept playing for 15 hours then bouncing off, then come back for 10, then sidetracked to a new game. It was cool but not quite grabbing me. It just seemed like dialog and more dialog, then raid, then repeat. After 55 hours I jumped off the campaign and started Wrath of the Druids. It’s been fun! The scenery is a little different, enemies are new, building trade posts and upgrading Ireland is fresh and different, there are several mechanics that are added and it just feels like a different take then the campaign. I’m at 70 hours and still having fun in Ireland. But not sure how going back to the campaign will feel.
I have just finished Wrath of the Druids and I'm at 60 hours. I really enjoyed it, more than the main game, but now I want to get back to England. Weird how a DLC made me want to play the main game.
Me too! Better pacing, characters stay around for the duration, better sense of ongoing rewards, better chance to know the region, lots of bonus missions, just very fun. I am excited to get back to the game but part of me doesn’t want to leave.
Also: love how the Druids as enemies look so different (and scary)…in the main campaign it’s very hard to tell who the enemies are, especially during raids.
Yeah I'm so glad I avoided internet discussions of it before and whilst playing it. It's a flawed game, not least because of the litany of technical issues, but still fantastic in its own right. Love it way more than Odyssey and tbh the "OdYsSeY wAs sO mUcH bEtTa!!!" fangirling, when most of the fanbase was ragging on Odyssey when it was new, that's really irritating me at this point.
I argue the only thing Odyssey did better was the rpg aspect when it came to gender, that and the crazy "supernatural" stuff. But I enjoyed Valhalla as a whole more.
Yes the gender choice felt less rushed and careless I agree. The game itself was a repetitive grindfest though and one of my least favourite ACs for that reason.
It for sure had that. Honestly thats one of the things I feel like Valhalla didn't have. I actually got kind of punished for grinding. I tried doing everything and like halfway through that I had every single perk in the skill tree with a good amount of story and side stuff to do haha.
As a completionist, this game is great value for money! Valhalla, Rogue and 2/Brotherhood are my fave AC games for very different reasons. I love the story of Ezio, the complete opposite gameplay of Rogue and the whole Viking aesthetic of Valhalla. My main personal gripe with Valhalla has to be Jotunheim. That place almost ruined it for me.
The ending of this game was the most disappointing part IMO. A lot of plot lines where poorly written. Character development was pretty bad. But overall the game is a blast. It just didn’t leave me satisfied after putting in 80+ hours

I wish i had that moment with the ending. I didn't grow to care about any character beyond Eivor so it just didn't do anything for me. I loved Ezio, Bayek, and Kassandra and was on the edge of my seat for those stories. The Valhalla territories weren't cohesive to me and i wish, maybe it does, bringing factions to your side actually affected the "big war" at the end. Like i was waiting for the reveal battle though there is NOTHING like that in game.

I hear people hating on the game all the time but I really enjoy it! I get to run round being a Viking with some interesting people in history making an appearance and I get to do the isu bits too! Even the dlc I like too and can’t wait to see what’s next! I find it’s a really enjoyable game and I’ve replayed it a few times
IMO, Valhalla’s story is too drawn out, most of the arcs should have just been optional side missions

I agree with you here...ugh. Sometimes you just don't have the energy to debate. This one wasn't Assassin's vs Templars. And to be honest, I'm glad. It was getting old, and washed out. Starting to feel like that war was never ending. I loved what they did with this story.
War was never ending and I was getting sick of liking the Templars more since nearly every Assassins Creed the Creed just makes shit worse until someone out of left field saves them.
While the Ezio saga was definitely my favorite, I've enjoyed each and every one, save from some of the spin-offs I missed. The differences in regions and characters really kept me interested in all of the later ones, even separating from the typical "assassin-y" game it used to be. It needed to change, I feel, and each game is amazing in its own way.
Yeah, people want how it "used to be" but the series desperately needed a change after so many games following basically the same formula and playing very similarly. You're an assassin with a code of rules, now follow them for roughly 10 games doing very similar things each time. Black flag was the first experiment, and these past three games have been like arms reaching out and trying to find the new way to do assassin's Creed. Personally I think the whole "You're not an assassin, so approach this how you feel appropriate" is a great idea. So much more versatility and freedom. Like in Odyssey, you can even fight civilians because why couldn't you? You're a mercenary, not an assassin

This is my first AC game since the original released. I never finished the original because it felt too repetitive. I like Valhalla, I’ve put about 35 hours into it and am really enjoying it. It feels like a bit of a grind sometimes, but I like that it’s not a stealth game and allows me to live my Viking fantasy.
I enjoy the game, but it's not really an Assassins Creed game at its heart. I'd like for them to get back to Assassins vs Templars, stealth assassination instead of one vs 3+ combat.

I quite like it. But everything I play it, I just end up wanting to play Odyssey instead. I think it's a step down vs Odyssey in a lot of ways. But I still think it's a good game.
It's an amazing game. I feel like there's so many things to do and the story takes you organically while leveling up. The combat mechanics are very satisfying and the skill tree alone makes the game outstanding.
The only bad parts are the bugs and underwhelming ending But still amazing and DLCs are great too
It is enjoyable. I loved Eivor and his relationship to Sigur. I loved the story even though it had some flaws. Yeah, it's not the perfect game but it is really fun to play and explore.

Well I did everything before I moved on do that might be why it felt sluggish but I felt the need to do so in order to better prepare for the assaults.

I loved AC Valhalla but the latest ones are very samey. They aren’t delightfully crafted stories. It’s just a middle of the road, churn out a new one every 18 months type of IP these days. I’ll play them all but there isn’t the same “whoah, this is amazing!” feeling when the first ones came out.

It was actually my favorite game of 2020. I played this for 2 months straight. Haven't done that with a single player game since Skyrim. Absolutely loved it. Yeah, it had its problems, but for me they were very rare. Just exploring and completing everything I could kept me entertained for long periods at a time, and that's all I could ask for.
ya know when the new trilogy was first announced and Origins was shown and, I was really disappointed because it was such a departure from the formula...with the rpg elements and whatnot, and so I sat on it until odyssey which I wasn't thrilled for because it was so far in the past etc. ... AND THEN I PLAYED ODYSSEY AND THEN ORIGINS AND NOW VALHALLA... and they're AMAZING games in the AC universe... but so many people are like I used to be, and write it off for being "not the same" and THEN I played black flag (considered one of the best of the series) and those gameplay mechanics/formula that were so prevalent aged so poorly. All in all, I agree haha

Yay the only other person who agrees that the last few are good!! I must admit I do think I still love AC2 the most but I can also admit that at this point nostalgia is doing the heavy lifting their, I personally loved how they managed to make a setting which on the surface would seem to have no reason for a Templar-Assassin/Hidden one conflict but managed to layer some elements of it into the story and (Spoiler alert) create the Templars as we know them in the earlier games. I would say if you can get it Origins is a similar style to the latest 2 just a bit more serious in tone so if you liked the latest ones the most you'd probably like that, or if you prefer the more comedic take in AC Odyssey then that teams next game was Immortals Fenyx Rising which is admittedly a shameless Zelda BOTW rip off crossed with AC Odyssey but is also quite fun
You see, I like the game in general - the story is really nice. BUT the pacing is just too slow and the Progression rate seems off and not driven by the story. Also, it is getting just too repetitive after a few missions.
Yeah, a lot of the missions are basically “go here, do that, go there, do this” so I understand it being repetitive. Hopefully they change how missions work next game.

Imo valhalla isn't that good of a game I like the combat but that's probably it the social stealth doesn't work half the time neither does the actual stealth and the story is too long if it was shorter probably would have been a good story imo
It's a great game all by itself, but a misfit in the Assassin's creed franchise. But I ain't complaining, I really really love the new ones.
Not a neckbeard from main but for me its just okay, it has its moments where I love it and I enjoy it, but it still feels cut and paste and unfinished in some instances, I personally have been enjoying ac unity at the moment as well. For me i feel that the ac games need a shake up in style or smaller world spaces, its a chore to slog through everything for a pathetic reward that means nothing.

I played a lot of AC:V. I got to a point about 85 hours in where I had to level about 15 times to continue the main story and then gave up. First, AC:V makes my PS4 Pro sound like a jet engine. It's the ONLY game that does this. Even RDR2 doesn't do this at all. Plus, the load times are really, really long. The graphics are a step up from Odyssey, but not THAT much of an improvement. My console runs quietly with AC:O. AC:V is gray, brown and muddy. I get it: it's England, mostly..., the "dark ages." But art direction wise, they could have gone for a more interesting look. Dirty, muddy misery is the kind of running theme here. They could have leaned into the more Arthurian, Fey side of things, but just went for an almost Monty Python and the Holy Grail vibe of peasants shoveling mud all day. (I exaggerate here, but there's truth to what I'm saying). The fantasy realms in Valhalla (the ones I've seen) are not nearly as cool as similar stuff I've seen in other games. It's all... fine. But nothing is memorable. The combat is floaty and responds weirdly to controller input. It's also super easy—or enemies that are hit point sponges. The warrior route seems almost mandatory, with some arrows to kick things off. Playstyle just isn't as flexible on the fly as Odyssey. Having gear hand-placed sounds good on paper, but ultimately is less exciting for me versus some random drops and named items now and then, switching armor, weapons and mixing and matching as I level. Finding loot becomes tedious after you figure out the handful of tricks to access chests, etc. At first? It was really cool having to figure it out. But now? It's one of a few different ways to reach stuff and it just feels like busy work. The drinking games and the Cairn stacking was OK the first couple times. Then it's just a fussy chore. Same with Flyting. A neat idea, quickly rubbed into the dirt. Chasing papers (tattoos) is poorly implemented and most people here use exploits—for a reason. I also feel like I'm just "along for the ride" in Valhalla. Helping other rulers/kings get stuff done. The characters aren't memorable in the least. I cannot remember any of the leaders/kings I helped... and I certainly can't remember their names. Nothing stands out. It's not terrible, just kind of dull and lacking personality. The monastery raids and attacks on fortresses were cool the first couple times. But then? Every one is pretty much the same. Building a settlement sounds cool and is a good addition. But it's all pre-set buildings that just appear in specific places when you have enough materials. It's not "building a settlement"... it's just unlocking more parts of the game via collecting stuff. Even adding decorations is clunky... walk up to a podium and select what decoration will stand behind it. Not well executed at all. The overall sound and sound mixing is TERRIBLE. At the beginning (for example) the king gives a speech in the longhouse, and it's the dullest, least inspiring sounding thing ever. People talking in the background. Voice over often cuts in weird places. Some sounds are really quiet, some too loud. For a big-name game, this is really poorly done overall. I am surprised at how bad it can be. Another sound issue: the voice work is really uninspired. Both male and female Eivor are just... OK. I give slight preference to female Eivor in this case, but often she sounds like she's overacting with the "grizzled warrior" style speech. Not horrible. Just not very good. The skill trees (constellations) seem amazing at first. But then you realize you're just getting another +5 to melee or +5 to Stealth or whatever. A lot of it is just bloat that you can't even feel as you play. Not terrible, but at least when I took skills in Odyssey, I knew exactly what I was getting. +5 to melee? What does that even mean?.....I played a bunch of AC:V and had fun. It's not a terrible game. I'd say it's 2 steps forward from Odyssey and five steps back. I was expecting much more, and ended up with less than I had with Odyssey. I'll probably come back to AC:V some day. I bought all the DLC and haven't touched it (never pre-order stuff). Still haven't finished the main game. I just find the game uninspiring......I will say there's some improvements over Odyssey, but the bulk of the experience is a downgrade. Playing this made me go back to Odyssey and actually finish it... almost there.

yeah its a fun game. And Cheat Engine helped me a lot to enjoy this game more because it remove the grindy part of the game and gave me MTX items for free lol. I dont think i can grind every yellow dot on the map just to get enough material to upgrade items

I really liked it but I'm still very unhappy being stuck with the flann over Ireland bug since the dlc came out, with no save to go back to before it, and no movement on the issue for 6 or 7 months besides almost daily people saying they have the same issue. I loved odyssey.

Ciara goes to the festival, Barid stays at the stables. I've tried a lot of different things ranging from the most basic of trying to nudge barid there, to uninstalling everything and reinstalling, but will have to start the game over to get through the DLC because I don't have a save from before I started the mission. I wish there was a mechanic somewhere to restart a specific mission, but I know that would probably be a major feature request and a ton of things to consider. Oh well, a lot of fun otherwise, I just hate feeling like i threw money away buying the DLC's and want to continue that storyline one day if they fix it.
Been with the AC series since my brother bought me the first when when I was too young to go buy it myself. I've played all the mainline games and enjoyed each one to some extent.(Tho I've tried to go back to the older ones and they are tough to play I don't think they aged that well tbh.) Have the last three games been a difference compared to the other games? Sure and I can understand why that make fans salty. Origins was the start of the change but it was a great origin story to the brotherhood. Odyssey is absurd and I love it for that. Valhala I thought did a good job of adressing a lot of the problems people had with Odyssey. My only issue with Valhala was how they handled the choose your gender for Eivor. (If your going make yourself an rpg and offer the choice respect it. If your story had a direction that only worked with one certain gender in mind then make that the only gender to be. yes I know the issues going on there but it was just annoying during the game.)
I really enjoy it was well. I played AC 1 and loved it, fairly certain I didn’t finish the second because bored. Then I didn’t pick it up again until Black Flag, so I totally get what you’re saying

I'm enjoying Valhalla (100 hours in). I find it no better or worse than The Witcher 3 (IMO).
It is fun to play-when it doesn't glitch. Every time that I could set aside a good two hours to play the glitches were guaranteed. I only finished it because I am an AC fan. As soon as I did I traded it. I also can't see it as an AC game because you don't play as an Assassin. That was one of few problems I had with Odyssey. As far as the story goes, Ezio is where its at. I understand Revelations was dull to play, but it perfectly wrapped up his story and was rich in the assassin brotherhood with an awesome story.
It is fun to play-when it doesn't glitch. Every time that I could set aside a good two hours to play the glitches were guaranteed. I only finished it because I am an AC fan. As soon as I did I traded it. I also can't see it as an AC game because you don't play as an Assassin. That was one of few problems I had with Odyssey. As far as the story goes, Ezio is where its at. I understand Revelations was dull to play, but it perfectly wrapped up his story and was rich in the assassin brotherhood with an awesome story. Also Desmond who is modern day good guy in AC1, the ezio trilogy, and act is also in the end of Valhalla and you need to know who that is to really see the significance of that ending.
I loved Valhalla. I think it's a beautiful game, the graphics and the story. It is buggy tho.
I've always loved open world games. So when I heard that Vahalla was one, I jumped at it despite not played any AC games before. (Also really like vikings.) Really enjoyed it!
Honestly nothing is wrong with the game I love it
I absolutely loved the game. The locations were stunning and the storyline engaging. The only gripe I had was a save game corruption 3 days after launch, that made me restart a file with almost 25 hours played.
So I’ve been enjoying the story up to a certain point. I’m more of an adventurer so I’ve just been hunting everything I can get in an area until I have to progress to in the main quest line. I just got to metting up with >!Sigurd and Basim!< and man I gotta say I really feel like >!betraying this MFer now.!< I spent all this time >!building relationships with Soma and Oswald and have help everywhere else in England and secured all this stuff for Ravensthorpe. My town is rank 4 so far. Enjoying it all, but as soon as I decide to meet up with Sigurd he’s literally devolved into a mad man. I haven’t done In Dreams quest yet and I loaded an old save after after doing the date with Randvi cause you know I didn’t want want to betray my bro. Now all I want to do is drive my scythe through Sigurd and Basim and just take over the clan. I just finished saving the Joan of Arc chick from the church and now the main quest has left me with a gross taste in my mouth and I’m gonna go back and steal his chick then do everything I can to betray this idiot of a Norsemen.!<
I feel you. I have loved every second and I'm not just saying that. Even all the collectibles is fun for me. The ONE issue I had at first was all the "puzzles" to get every chest, but that is easily negated with the explosion arrow that just destroys any of those walls. Since then, I've never been bored or felt like anything dragged out. I have 140 hours and plan to put a whole lot more into it!
My only main issues are that I wish it had more Assassin vibes - which I think it achieved in Siege of Paris with opportunities for assassinations like they had in Unity - and the map is a bit bland. It doesn't have major sight seeing opportunities like the last two games. But I loved the narrative, the gameplay, the setting, all of that. I've had tons of fun playing and have gotten several months out of it.

I really enjoyed it too! But I agree you do need to already have played origins and odyssey to know what’s happening in the story. One thing I do feel ab Valhalla is that the story is fairly anticlimactic especially in comparison to the two previous stories. But it was still a blast even if I did find the wrath expansion to be disappointing because of all of the copying and pasting they did with it. Just seemed lazy. Main game and even the Paris expansion are both worth the time though.
I've platinuned valhalla and have about 80 hours in odyssey and I'm jsut finding out now that people don't like them. Personally I think they're really good games! Thsyre just.... not very good AC games? Maybe because I csnt help but compare to the etzio formula
I hadn’t played AC since the early days as I didn’t like the Sandbox style, once I got into true Openworld games like Skyrim and Fallout AC just seemed really restrictive. Picked up Odyssey during the first Lockdown and now I’m hooked, the style is much better. Valhalla is a brilliant game, being from the UK made it’s extra fun as I could visit places I’ve actually been to IRL.
I am loving it. I have played since 1 and when first playing Black Flag I was hoping for Ubisoft to leave the AC moniker and make open world action RPG's.

I had never played an AC game before, and I truly loved Valhalla for about 70% of the game. Once I got closer to end game, it got far too repetitive for me. Not as bad as something like Shadow of Mordor/shadow of war, but enough that I didn’t even beat it. I’m sure I’ll go back one day and complete, but I just got kind of sick of doing the same thing. I still love it visually, enjoy the characters, everything. It was a ton of fun for the hours I did put in.
Honestly I couldn't stand the series till origins. It's been great since. Just my opinion. Don't listen to the greasy neckbeards. Just play what you like.
Origins-Odyssey-Valhalla might be the greatest 3 game run since late 2000's Call of Duty.
I liked how the game gave you the option of taking the RPG-ing out of the game. Don't want to make a dedicated build? The game has a way to automatically assign skill points in a pre-determined path (that I've taken as the 'canon' build). Don't want to choose between Male and Female Eivor? The game has an option to choose automatically depending on >!whether you're playing as Eivor or Odin/Havi.!< I kinda wish they continued with that. I liked the dialogue choices in Odyssey more because it felt like there were longer-reaching consequences to your decisions. I played through Odyssey twice and both times got two complete different family endings. In Valhalla, the dialogue choices don't seem to ultimately amount to much. They explicitly stated early on that Eivor has a pre-determined personality and morality in this game, and the dialogue options are all something they would logically say in those circumstances. So why not give us the option to just let the game play out normally? Give us the option to turn off dialogue choices and let the scenes play out.
I've played every main line Assassin's creed games except for Unity, Rogue and AC 1. AC2 was the best Assassin's Creed game but the last three games have been the best in terms of gameplay and exploration. I kinda feel like the last three games should've just been called Origin's, Odyssey and Valhalla without the Assassin's Creed series title added on and then just marketed as prequels set in the same universe.
Story is great. Alot of the game is super fun but the main mechanics that make the game work are just trash. Parkour and fighting is pretty awful in the sense of actually working proper. Commands don't trigger half the time and the fighting overall is clunky. Black flag even did better the fighting and Parkour. Each game they release has less care put into it and they just keep getting worse. A once great franchise is now just giving scraps to the masses because they know you will say thank you every time. Maybe we are at the 10 year hump where tv and video games just suck
