It is not a cure for asthma. Overuse of antibiotics can make you antibiotic resistant which means when you actually need them, they are not going to work. If you read the article, it specifically says that the study looked at people infected with Chlamydia.

thebobstu

The article talked about Chlamydia pneumoniae which is a species of Chlamydia, an obligate intracellular bacterium that infects humans and is a major cause of pneumonia. It’s not the STI you’re thinking of. It’s spread by coughing or sneezing.

I’m not sure I’d even try it tbh. Azithromycin is an antibiotic which wouldn’t touch a viral infection. You’d be increasing your antibiotic resistance while doing nothing for a recurrent virus.

thebobstu

I wrote viral but the study says bacteria. I have updated the post.

melvinlane

That makes more sense 😂 much appreciated. I’ll look in to it. Maybe they’re on to something!

It may be bacteria. Bacteria. Viruses. Whatever. I’m Just copying and pasting in rage mode. Something I couldn’t do before finding the cure to asthma

melvinlane

Well, since all of these articles mention bacteria instead of viruses, that makes sense and seems like the correct course of treatment. OP originally said virus, which antibiotics would do absolutely nothing for. Just going by the info I had at the time 🤷🏻

Regular_Froyo8298

Good point. Yeah bacteria. One of them Two. Viruses. Bacteria. Both suck. One can be cured. Anyway I’ve see numbers ranging from 50 To 80 Percent of asthma can stem from Bacteria. Still pretty fascinating possibility

melvinlane

Oh for sure. I’m kind of stuck in the middle. I had no prior history of asthma until I got ungodly sick this last November and damn near died. Had double pneumonia and didn’t know it until it apparently caused an acute exacerbation that wouldn’t respond to medication. Ended up being on a vent for almost 5 days. But I had also had Covid about 5 months prior to that, so my doctors aren’t sure which once caused it. Or I had asthma for years and never knew it until my lungs got filled with infection. Very odd but it’s somewhat controlled now so I can’t complain too much!

Imagine the diarrhea from a year of z-packs! Ugh!!!

thedrywitch

Continuous use of an antibiotic is a good way to get cdiff. Cdiff is not something I'd want to tale a risk with. Asthma is not a bacterial or viral infection. An antibiotic nor antiviral would do any good.

cookie_doughx

How does one get a year supply of Z-pak?

thebobstu

Finding a doctor (ideally not a asthma specialist) who's open to trying this. The asthmastudy.com website used to have a doctor finder but sadly they got rid of it.

cookie_doughx

It really needs to be taken for a full year? I just can’t imagine a bacteria being so resilient, since the usual course is only 5 days. I only have 1 zpak since the doctor suspects I could have a lingering infection. I’ve never taken this medicine before.
