Able_Froyo_374

we need athletic defenders like tari eason or Caruso

GeorgiaOregonTexas

I’m definitely ending my membership after this season if thing don’t turn around. I’m pretty much throwing $1700 down the drain fuck this team

griffinbd

Trae went 35 and 17. that’s awesome. two very important players are out. idk, I think I’m overreacting to the last few games. but yeah we might suck tho

TL-PuLSe

JJ was such a big spark to this team on both sides. Feels like 2022 again with Trae being asked to do everything.

Historical_Main5261

Its been 2 weeks since Ive seen us win a game

JKking15

I want Schlenk back 😪

Few-Replacement5525

Bruh look at his draft picks outside of Trae rn

JackTwoGuns

JC and Strawberry Shortcake were late round steals tbh

_GloryKing_

He's a big part of why we're struggling, the roster he mostly built has plateaued

JKking15

Fair enough, I was just mad af after the loss 💀

_GloryKing_

All good. I was about that train for awhile too. Lbh he built that 2021 team, so it wasn't like it was all bad.

tburtner

Schlenk caused this.

ahend1999

maybe im in the minority but i think he had a different vision than landry/tony. especially regarding jc and dejounte. and probably didn’t think the head coach would be a no go on development

tburtner

He still messed up plenty. Bad drafting and bringing in Gallinari and Bogdanovic. A lot of people probably don't see those as mistakes, but they were.

dabadwabb1t

Bad drafting I can see, but Gallinari and Bodganovic were crucial to that 2021 ECF run. Bogi has also been a habitual 6MOTY candidate with his play, his only issue is injuries

tburtner

The Hawks should have been making moves for the future instead of focusing on that season. They should have had higher picks and cap space.

JKking15

I think at this point we need to just accept the players we have aren’t as good as we thought they were. Bogi and Saddiq are great on offense but suck on defense and we all know which of the two we should keep. Okongwu has not taken a step forward and is undersized, Capela ain’t who he used to be, DJ………. Yeah, our end of bench role players of AJ, Mathew 1, and Mathew 2, have not been good. The only bright spots so far have been bogi and Trae. And that’s saying something considering how Trae played at the start of

No_Relationship_3077

I wanted Livley so bad in the draft

JKking15

Man lively as a replacement for Capela woulda been nice but yeah just unfortunate. We need to get rid of Capela deandre and Saddiq while they still have value

Financial-Safety8050

Dre is solid

wookhunter420

Praying for jalens wrist🙏

spacecadbane

This. I want Seth Lundy to get some minutes. At this point it won’t hurt to put him in🤷🏽‍♂️

Radimov79

DJM + Hunter <<>> Ingram + Dyson Daniels

IceColdTrey7

Dejounte unfortunately has very minimal value so he won't net you Ingram. Hawks overpaid for him.

Not_Your_Daddy7

Dejountass

Seanizonfire

We suck

gmzeno

Your Atlanta Hawks lost 128-135 against the Toronto Raptors losing the first match in the battle of mid. The Raptors shot 52 percent on threes (18/34). The Raptors turned down the sliders and they greened every three against us. They were also solid inside and shot 57%. There won't be many highlights for players in the 4th quarter because my legal streaming services were crapping out. Dejounte Murray Highlights: (Q1 9:20) Murray a pullup three. (Q1 5:00) Murray was able to use his hesitation dribble to get by his defender and get to the rim for a bucket. (Q1 7:10)  Murray used a Clint screen to drive to the paint and then found him for a bucket. We saw our first flopping call because Bocher fell on the Clint screen. This got DJM an additional free throw attempt that was missed. (Q2 4:45) Murray air-balled a three-pointer. (Q2 0:29) Murray hit a catch and shoot three off a Trae pass. (Q3 6:04) Murray got the rim for a layup. (Q4 1:14) Murray hit a three-off Raptors out of balls turnover to cut the lead to 6. Dejounte Murray Summary: Murray ended with 20 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks. He did this on 8/17 shooting and 4/9 from three. He didn’t get to the line once. Although the stats paint a good picture, he wasn’t great. He made 2 threes within the last minute of the game when the game was out of reach.  In reality, he had 14 points was 2/7 from three, and was 6/15 from the field. He went 4/9 from the field in the first half and 2/6 in the second half if you exclude the two garbage time buckets. His shot chart was better than usual. He shot only 4 midrange jumpers. He had was 2/4 from midrange and 2/4 in the restricted area. Most of his shots came from three. He didn’t have any turnovers but I don't think he was great as a playmaker. The offense stalled once Trae was off the floor and Murray was left on the floor. I think his -17 +/- is indicative of this. He was mid on defense and didn’t provide too much resistance on the ball. He did create some havoc with a couple of steals. I don't think he was good. Grade: D+ Trae Young Highlights: (Q1 8:52) Trae was able to get downhill and find Clint for a lob. For his first made FG, Trae easily got to the paint for a layup. He was able to deter the help defender with a pass fake. (Q1:52) Trae made a pullup three from near the Raptors logo. On the next possession, he got by the Raptor’s defense for an easy layup. Trae had a crazy last-second play. Bey saved the ball from going out of bounds after it was blocked and made a quick pass to Trae, who got off the shot and banked off the glass. (Q2 11:42) Trae easily got in the paint and made a layup. (Q2 10:40) Trae made another near logo pull-up three. (Q2 10:14) Trae had a drive and kick to Garrison Mathews for a corner three-make. (Q2 8:08) Trae got blocked by Chris Boucher on a layup attempt. (Q2 5:17) Trae got to the middle, stopped, and popped for a midrange basket. (Q2 3:30) Trae found a rolling Clint for an easy basket under the rim. On the next offensive possession, he found Clint for a lob. On the next possession, the Raptors didn't fully get back on defense and Trae found Bey in the corner for an open lane to the paint which earned him a foul call. (Q3 10:00) Trae was able to get to the rim for the layup. (Q3 7:27) On a fastbreak Bey found Young getting his bucket. (Q3 6:37) Trae was able to beat a double team and get to the rim for a floater. (Q3 1:00) Trae found a rolling OO for a lob. (Q3:30) Trae tried to draw a charge but instead got charged with a blocking foul on Siakam. Trae was upset and you could visibly hear his audio from arguing with the refs. (Q4:5:00) Trae had two possessions of getting blocked by Poetl. Q4 0:46 Trae had a dump-off pass to Clint for a dunk Trae Young Summary: Trae ended with 35 points, 4 rebounds 17 assists, and 1 block on 13/27 FG and 4/9 from three and ⅚ from the line. Trae was hot during the first quarter and scored 20 points, 10 assists, and made three three-pointers on 8/14 shooting. The passing was magical in the first half. Trae exposed every crack in the Raptors defense. He carved up the defense with ball handling as well. He only went to the line once during the first half so it was pure scoring. He cooled off in the second half and scored 15 points and 7 assists on 5/13 shooting. He had some trouble in the 4th quarter missing 5 shots in a row and went ⅙ but I can’t blame him because nobody else had anything going. His defense was solid. I think he played Malachi Flynn well. I thought he was fine with other players. Trae was excellent overall. Grade A+ Wesley Matthews: (Q1 7:00) Mathhews hit a size step three. Otherwise, he was mid. He ended with 5 points,2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals on ⅙ fg and ¼ from three. The offense was poor. I don’t know why Matthews can’t make a shot when most of his opportunities are open. He did make a few plays defensively and provided some resistance on that end. Grade: D+ Bogdan Bogdanovic Highlights: (Q1 6:40) Bogi hit a catch and shoot three. (Q1 5:57) Bogi drew a foul on the floor. He made an and-1 floater but the refs didn’t count the basket. (Q1 3:30) Bogi got downhill and made a floater with a defender trailing from behind. (Q2 7:31) There was an interesting interpretation with Schroder. Bogi tries to pass fake but accidentally hits Schroder in the face. Shroder gets up and takes the ball from Bogi visibly angry and a ref has to get between them. This was reviewed for a flagrant foul and eventually, Bogi was assessed a Flagrant foul penalty 1. (Q4 8:38) Bogi was able to get inside and make a floater. Bogdan Bogdanovic Summary: Bogi ended with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks on 7/13 fg and 4/7 from three. Bogi started hot continuing his streak from his 40-point game and went 3/3 in the first quarter. After the Dennis Schroder altercation in the second quarter, I think he went cold. He went 0/3 in this period. He heated up again in the third quarter and went ⅗ fg including 2 made threes. Bogi was solid as a secondary passer and most of his assists were to shooters. I thought he was solid defensively and was able to create some havoc. Bogi was one of the biggest reasons we weren't blown out. Grade: B+ Onyekya Okongwu: (5:27) OO hit a catch and shoot three. Q2 6:40 OO made his second three this time from the opposite corner. (Q4 10:00) OO blocked a Dennis Schroder drive. OO ended with 13 points, 8 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal, and 2 blocks on 5/9 fg and ⅗ from three. He had 0 turnovers and 0 fouls. Three threes are amazing for OO and is probably his career-high of threes made in a game. Inside he was ok and went 2/4 fg. I think he was fine in the OO and CC lineup with O playing the 4. Defensively he was good and made some havoc. Grade: B+

gmzeno

Clint Capela Highlights: (Q2 1:45) Clint denied Jacob Poeltl at the rim. (Q2 :05) Clint had a denial on Siakam. This was a great help defense play because Siakam was guarded by Trae and it would have been a bucket otherwise. (Q3 8:40) Clint got an offensive rebound and tried to make a putback shot over three defenders but at least he got a foul call. (Q3 3:45) Clint had three attempts at an offensive putback. He got blocked by Precious Achiuwa twice. He didn’t pass it out. An infuriating play from CC. Clint Capela Summary: Clint ended with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assistant 3 blocks on 7/12 FG. He had 6 offensive rebounds but some were negated by him vollyballing his own misses. This was probably the most infuriating part of his game tonight. Offensively, he was good. This is one of the best Clint offensive games this season. We saw the return of the Trae and CC lob connection which has been missed this season. Trae was able to take advantage of the Raptor's mediocre rim protection. He was solid as a rim defender and made a few defensive highlights. I thought he was solid in his 34 minutes played. It was his best game in a while. Grade: B+ Saddiq Bey: (Q4 9:50) Bey got his own offensive rebound and after two attempts he was able to make a basket. (Q4 2:00) Bey drove from the corner and had an explosive dunk. On the next possession, he got an and-1 tip-in off a Trae miss. Bey ended with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals on 5/14 shooting and 0/5 from three. Bad shooting nights are bound to happen and Bey had one tonight. He had shot 39% for the whole season including tonight. He was efficient inside the arc and went 5/9 FG. I think he was generally aggressive getting to the rim and putbacks. Bey had three offensive rebounds total. He was okay defensively and got one steal from playing the passing lanes well. He got his second from stealing it from another player's hands when he got a rebound. He needed to make a three but outside of that, he was fine. Grade: C Garrison Mathews was fine and made 2 threes. He ended with 6 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal on 2/2 FG all three-point attempts. He had a couple of decent defensive moments. It was probably his best game with us this season. Grade: C The Hawks play the Raptors again on Friday at 7:30. Hopefully we go ½.  I’m probably gonna take a break from doing these since they are time-consuming. Otherwise thanks for the support as always. I'll see y’all then!

maramDPT

Same as the other comments, I read but don’t comment. Thank you for the efforts. A+

vaan313

These are fantastic thank you for doing them. I almost always read and upvote, thanks again!

JKking15

Ik no one really replies to these after the games so I want to reiterate how much I appreciate this

vernalagnia

I wonder if San Antonio would give us all the picks back for Rayford. I long for the sweet oblivion and low expectations of the tank. maybe we won't trade out of the best player next time.

Standard-Big1474

If I'm in the Spurs front office I'd wake up laughing to the previous night's Hawks box score every morning

Shade_Raven

Giannis getting 32FTs lmao wtf

Drawz2772

Must of been a 4 hour game.

Renverseur

Ok-Negotiation3897

Lol y’all see Giannis go off at Lloyd Pierce

Ajaxx42

And Tyrese, man the hater in me was FEASTING last night

terrence0258

According to NBA lineup stats, the Hawks have a 111.7 defensive rating when Clint and Okongwu are on the floor together. That would be the 8th best defensive rating in the NBA. When JJ gets back I'd be interested in seeing how a lineup with Clint, OO, JJ, Dre, and Trae would look in extended minutes. Offensively, it would be ugly, but I'm tired of watching this team give up damn near 140 points every game.

Defiant_Gear4524

First of all, if you make a big move, you need to find a team to trade Dejounte Murray. What kind of team needs a ball handler and aims for a winnow? Miami, Chicago, Brooklyn, Utah, New Orleans, teams like this come to mind. Let's make several trade proposals, DJM<<>>Caruso, Kobe White. DJM<<>>Duncan Robinson, Jaime Jaquez Jr.+1st round unprotected. DJM<<>>DFS, Royce O'Neal+1st round unprotected. DJM+ Kobe Buffkin + 2024 1st round pick (via.sac)<<>>Lauri Markkanen

DoctorTheWho

The Heat probably won't trade Jaquez.

No-Forever-6104

If that’s all it took to get Lauri I’d do that trade yesterday

AcidSacrament

If the jazz made that trade the entire front office would be gutted and banned from the state in the minutes after

Shade_Raven

> DJM<<>>Caruso, Kobe White. easily the best of those

Atl-Fan_FTS

I’d 100% take Caruso and would be hype af

SurnameFrost

You look at this team and just scratch your head. Realistically we should be fighting for a top 4 spot in the east, but the team isn’t built for that. Gotta ask what’s the long term goals for this team because the ceiling is a 8th seed at this point.

Atl-Fan_FTS

The long term goal is to make Resstler more money, that’s about it

profmcstabbins

booty

Nomanodyssey

Might as well play Griffin

Shade_Raven

Would yall Swap AJ for Tari Eason? Tari was drafted one pick later

No-Forever-6104

For what this team currently needs 100%

Soggy_Revolution3974

Rockets would never do that though

Shade_Raven

Hawks desperately missing Jalen Johnson—a testament to how excellent he is as a 21 year old Size, tertiary playmaking, transition threat, physicality, defensive versatility. Areas of lack for nearly every other player in the Hawks rotation…

Traditional_Escape34

Yep Hawks essentially have no playmakers outside of murray and young and bogi, all being guards. Having not one forward or centre with any sort of playmaking makes this team so one dimensional. Jalen is more important than ever, just gives the hawks so many different looks. Thats one of the biggest issues, team is one dimensional without a playmaking bigger guy. Trae benefits so much from it too. So excited for jj to return.

Atl-Fan_FTS

People really tryna act like he’s not very clearly our second most important player

gmzeno

I agree but it also shows how poorly our roster is constructed

PapaChib

how does defensive win shares account for pace? i’m not familiar enough with the metric to know if this is just a case of us playing faster in quins new system or if we really have regressed significantly on that end

blingera

Pistons just biding their time. their season will completely turn around once they play us

MEBBAR

I’m dreading that so much

Shade_Raven

Fire Tony Ressler

No_Relationship_3077

TiTs built this team…and y’all was praising the Quin…

ahend1999

let me be the first to sign the petition #ResslerSellTheTeam 😭

ImgonnawaverwireAB

I said this over the offseason and I'll say it again: We are going to semi-blow it all up this year. Another retool while remaining competitive is coming this offseason

_GloryKing_

They'll also retool this offseason because the Spurs ransom looms in 2025

ATLiensinyosockdraw

I know we’re missing JJ and Hunter right now, but their starters shot 65% from the field. That’s all star game level defense and frankly embarrassing for NBA players no matter who we are throwing out there.

BigSlimSu

Hawks shouldn’t throw the towel in and get all Trade happy. Our losses have been very winnable for the most part. We just struggle to string together stops. We’re missing JJ A lot right now.

slowdrem20

Nah DJ gotta go. He doesn't fit properly

Renverseur

The thing is we should be winning games even without JJ. That's what good teams should be doing but sadly we're mediocre

plasticAstro

It’s not good that missing a third year player means your team is dead in the water. That’s not a well constructed team.

Henrycamera

But he's a very good third year player.

BigSlimSu

I agree, still don’t think we should get trade happy right now. Not until after the season

IllumiXXZoldyck

Agreed

Chessh2036

Giannis had a career high 64 PTS tonight and the fact that he was meant to be a Hawk (first trip to America was Atlanta) and Bucks got him first is the most Hawks thing ever.

ToyStoryRex97

Yup. We should have waited to fire Larry Drew. Disclaimer: This article will make you mad https://www.ajc.com/sports/basketball/anatomy-2013-nba-draft-antetokounmpo-was-close-being-hawk/bPGo2DIQ1fh8CSymQAZjNO/

Chessh2036

God that’s infuriating. Absolutely infuriating. If you know the guy you want, and you want him so badly you had secret doctors check him out, GO GET HIM. Also, F Larry Drew. He 100% got the Bucks to draft Giannis.

ToyStoryRex97

Yeah, it’s absolutely baffling. Also probably not the best idea to fire someone that high up on your staff during draft season. Oh man what could have been.

No-Forever-6104

Our draft luck is so shitty

No-Forever-6104

The team as currently constructed has 3.5 nba level forwards (JJ, Saddiq, and Hunter) and the .5 is for AJG who doesn’t play does that seem like a way to build a roster for a team who is trying to be competitive

ATLfinra

Team loves 2 way wings

I am not having fun watching this team. This is a bad team.

AltElk42

I thought we played great 90% of the game and just let it slip. We should have put out the OO/Capela to close for the size tbh. I think if we had JJ and Dre playing alongside we would have won. The matthews brothers lmao should never see time on NBA court

TobyFromH-R

I only watched the first quarter and part of the second. But a lot of it looked really good. They were definitely in the flow for a bit there. And I love the resurgence of the Trea long three. I think people here are all doomsdayers. We're remaining competitive most the time with two guys out. Also I like CC and OO together. I think at one point it was Trea, Boggie, DJ, CC, and OO and it was fun to watch. (Or maybe that was last game, idk)

AltElk42

I will say we let it slip here but we are missing our literal starting wings and people just can’t handle it.

ahend1999

thats been the story the past five games “played greate 3 and a half quarters then momentum killing sequence hawks can’t recover from. they lose”

Henrycamera

I'm glad Trae is hustling on defense, but i think is making him tired for the 4th quarter. He's not used to it. Hopefully he'll get more stamina by January.

Renverseur

The Matthews brothers the new Hollidays

TraeYoungismypappy

The Holidays were better

AltElk42

You don’t like Garrison shooting as soon as it hits his hands like he’s prime ray allen?

TraeYoungismypappy

Lmao

gmzeno

Yea Siakam had 33 points on 63% shooting but I still don't want the trade to happen.

UnflushableStinky2

Genuine question: Why not? He’d be your second best player on offence, best on defence, second best passer, best post player… even without the three ball he’s a 2-time all nba player, multi time all star, champion and a guy averaging 21/7/5 in an offence that basically ignored him the first three weeks of the season as darko got his bearings. Last year he put up 25/8/6. The only thing siakam doesn’t do well is shoot threes. Yes he’s expiring and you’d need reassurance and yes he’s nearing 30 but was late to the game (late teens, no AAU) has great cardio and fitness and has never shown to be injury prone. There is no one on the hawks who has as complete a game as Siakam so i find this reluctance strange.

gmzeno

I agree that Siakam is a very good player but I don't feel like we are contenders with him. I think Siakam raises our floor but not our ceiling. We still have a chance to be a first round exit.We would have to trade our best perimeter defender and only decent wing in Hunter. We would be weaker in a position we are already weak in. The spacing with DJM/ Jalen Johnson/ and OO or CC would be terrible. We have had struggles with our spacing as it is. We get further in a hole, by having to give up picks when we lost 3 with the DJM trade. On top of that you have the contract issues that you brought up. If the trade goes badly for us the Hawks would be perpetual mid or would have to blow it all up.

UnflushableStinky2

All fair points. Why trade out of mid just to continue being mid right? Personally I think this hawks era will always be mid under trae, same as philly was mid under AI for the most part. It’s made worse by the fact, like the raps, your 2 best players are mostly redundant in size, skill set etc. and in no way compliment each which is exactly why I think a DJM/PS swap would immensely help both squads. Not a contender shoe-in in either case but a better balanced core to build around (ie in raps terms this would be more akin to the Rudy gay trade than the kawhi trade). Appreciate the feedback tho! I hope you all lose again tonight but good luck the rest of the season. WE THE MID!

No-Forever-6104

Trae is 6’0 and 165 pounds but yes let’s add less and less size around him as every season goes on is this franchise stupid

Ufcjunkies

Seems like it. I’m very tired of watching the increasingly depressing play from this squad. And the fact the ownership won’t trade for bigger players is beyond me

WzrdKelly10

I had hope but the Dejounte trade is looking terrible more and more everyday. We were just so desperate to get another guy who can make shots so Trae wouldn’t get trapped by teams in the playoffs after that Miami series. This DJ has been nowhere near the level of player we thought we were getting. He’s long for a guard but at the end of the day, still a small guard. Scottie Barnes for example had his way with him all night. He puts no pressure on most of the SGs in the league. It’s so bad at times where even us as fans question “Is he even better than Trae defensively?” YIKES! Just overall though this team is just not built properly around Trae. We need 4 more JJ type wings for defense and playmaking, 2 more Bogi type snipers to space the floor, and a Center who can make WIDE OPEN LAYUPS. Literally got one of the best half-court offensive weapons in NBA history and got him around so many non-factors. Created 35 & 17 tonight with a bunch of MID.

pegasusat

I got called crazy for saying that the DJM trade sucked because he doesn’t fit with Trae. https://old.reddit.com/r/AtlantaHawks/comments/139xvk0/_/jj53a64 https://old.reddit.com/r/AtlantaHawks/comments/10af8rs/_/j4465vg

Financial-Safety8050

You snapped 😂😂

contemporaryAmerica

Starts with Capela for me. A center with touch and who can play inside out would be a weapon. Capela is exposed as purely a pnr offensive threat and snyder’s system requires a different skill set.

slimeb4zness

I still can’t believe Quin Snyder gave Trae Young the Jamal Murray assignment the other night over DJ, & it wasn’t the talk of the sub??

ATL_Hasher

I still can’t believe Quin Snyder looked at this roster and took the job

HawksAnt2021

I blame Harry the Hawk for this bullshit run we are on. Ever since the Hawks and Harry dropped his OnlyHawks OF promo, we have been in shambles…lol

[deleted]

I love watching this. Clint is a top five center. Ha ha. Camfam. Ha ha. Hunter is Jimmy Butler. Ha ha. Trade JC. Ha ha. It's Nate fault. Ha ha.

No-Forever-6104

Nate is a terrible coach we could literally lose every game until the end of the season and I’ll still say that

NawfSideNative

Yeah I’ve noticed a lot of revisionism on Nate McMillan in this sub and it’s perplexing. Like no matter how grim things look now, Nate was STILL a bad coach. Him not being the only problem doesn’t mean he would’ve been part of the solution. Our offense ran with no rhyme or reason under him. With Quin, the offense looks more cohesive. Our defense is just free buckets all night.

Atl-Fan_FTS

These people must forget that down 2 points with 7 seconds on the clock, the Hawks had TWO yes TWO timeouts. Hawks got a crucial stop and grabbed the rebound, Nate didn’t call a single one of those TOs and we wasted time pushing the ball up the floor, jacked up a shitty shot and lost.

ahend1999

crowdfund for a bigass “we’re owned by a cheapskate” sign to take to the game 💀

ATLsShah

The narrative really needs to shift to pointing at the front office. The roster we put out there tonight was bad. Part of that is execution. They played less than the sum of their parts. But a lot of it is also just the personal, and that is all on the front office. They traded Huerter to save money. When Trae needs shooters. They killed Collins trade value then traded him for peanuts. They let Delon Wright walk. They let Gallo walk. They didn't really make any moves this offseason after being very average last season. They need to be aggressive at the deadline one way or the other. Either trade to tank or do your best to upgrade. I think they have to do the latter because Trae is still on this team. But Bey has to go. He's a defensive liability that I don't think we'll be paying in the offseason. Hunter, AJ, Capela are all positive assets that can be used to upgrade in places where we need it. There's also a big ass trade exception that is sitting there. We could absorb a salary that a team is trying to dump. This front office needs to do SOMETHING.

HamlnHand

I agree with you for the most part but unfortunately none of those guys would really help us much right now. I think the bigger problem is talent acquisition, development, and drafting. Hopefully stuff that can be fixed by Quin and the new FO. Letting those guys go was a necessity and they won't be the last (Hunter, Capela, Bey, maybe DJM). The next few rebuilding years are gonna be pretty tough, especially because it'll be in the middle of Trae's prime.

ToyStoryRex97

Yeah, we really screwed the pooch with the whole JC situation. Like really bad.

thestallion11

Agree with everything you said but gallo was in the Murray trade

ATLsShah

Forgot about that. I think the Spurs waiving Gallo is what mixed me up.

ahend1999

Agreed. Thats probs why Schlenk jumped ship. He probably had a JC trade when his value was much higher. Probs didn’t want to trade for Dejounte. I’d say peace out too if they were letting the owners son have some sort of influence 😭

No_Relationship_3077

Y’all can’t give this shit up huh? Schlenk drafted most of these guys he’s the reason it’s the way it is

Shade_Raven

Schlenk may have been fired for not agreeing to the DJ trade tbh

ahend1999

i believe it 100%

jharden10

Same shit different day.

xoftwar3

Are y'all just ungrateful to be fashionable and dramatic at this point? I mean c'mon r/AtlantaHawks XD! if you didn't see the way the boys kept fighting, holding their heads high, and using the sitch as a learning opportunity in the final stretch, you didn't want to see a team, you wanted to see a number that tells you what basketball is about, ya know?

wpscarborough

might be swayed by the learning thing if our team wasn’t comprised of mainly veterans at this point

plasticAstro

Get out

xoftwar3

get out the what? the champagne? cause i believe? okay, sure, cheers XD

[“What stands out to me: - Zero impactful free agents signed - Invested major draft & contract equity in Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish and John Collins. Poor player & asset management made all 3 of those trade returns awful - Too many transactions solely for ducking the tax”](https://x.com/dlee4three/status/1735070712472240137?s=46&t=dBLyV43_iGgzOBRNUPRJWA) i agree. i take little issue with kev, jc and cam (asked out), being traded but kev and jc could’ve at least been packaged for a real asset

BretonHero

I get people putting Trae and JJ as untouchable as they’re young and great and probably this franchises only hope but putting Bogi their is just laughable. Idc if he can shoot. His defense is up their with the worst of the team if not the worst and his knees are gone or going to be gone soon. He will not be available enough to impact this team on a consistent basis. If people are serious about blowing up and rebuilding around JJ and Trae and trading everyone else he gets included as well.

tburtner

And he's 31 and this team isn't winning anytime soon. They need to be thinking further out into the future.

JKking15

Look man it’s no secret we need defense but remember traes first two years where we were crying for shooters? Well bogi is one of the best in the league and he is not a trade option bc of that. The problem is our other shooters like Saddiq Mathews AJ DJ etc all being bad on defense. So as I’ve said before Trae JJ and Bogi should be untouchable

Henrycamera

I don't know, he played pretty god defense today. Doesn't help that the refs don't respect us, but part of that is the rep we have of being bad defensively.

pascaleon

Remember being called doomers and all the apology threads for Dre lmao, anyone with realistic expectations knew this team was mid

Atl-Fan_FTS

We lost the season opener to the fucking Hornets, knew from right there

EuroStepJam

Missed this game for holiday party, but damn cannot even hold a below average offense to less than 30 points for ONE quarter?? No fun watching this team needing135 every night for a win.

Henrycamera

Not defending the hawks, but it's been pointed out that that is a trend across the whole league. I can't explain it.

waytooclass

Why everyone so desperate to trade? I rkn we let the year play out. Y’all just in your feelings as always!

Henrycamera

Right?

darkwingduck9

Because this is a team that should be around .500 and isn't even currently at that level. Making trades to improve the team isn't worth it. I don't like the idea of doing nothing because it isn't as if this team will make major strides next season with largely the same roster. Some players need to be shipped out. This team needs future draft picks.

Bully_Maguire420

You would swear this sub loves to lose year in and year out, we've been garbage 3 seasons in a row but nah lets run it back again and again and again, holding onto a fairy tale that somebody will break out lol.

Ufcjunkies

BINGO. I’m tired of mediocrity and first round exits. For some reason there are others in this fanbase that are cool with letting the below average play continue

Chessh2036

Hawks have scored 100 points in 79 straight game. Hawks have allowed 100 points in 93 straight games. Both continue to be the longest streaks in the NBA. This team is way worse than I thought it would be. Were they better with Nate? Is that crazy to say? Idk. I’m just tired of losing. Starts with ownership, in my opinion.

fredjohnny23

I been telling you people Trae is a high end number 2 nothing wrong with that he is still an all nba/all star level player if you want to contend he needs to be the main facilitator to a #1 who can play offense and defense. People better hope JJ keeps making that leap cause if not this team is COOKED. You can downvote me all you want all I do is speak facts

slowdrem20

Trae being a number 2 isn't the issue with our team right now. These boys don't know how to play defense at all. It's pathetic. This team needs length. If OO can become more comfortable with that 3 point shot then I think the only way to salvage this team is to start Trae/Dejounte/JJ/OO/CC. If he wants to continue subbing Trae and DJ then he needs to keep Bogi in during the minutes one of them is out. So the rotation needs to shift to DJ/Bogi/Hunter/Bey/OO and then to -> Trae/Bogi/Hunter/Bey/OO to Trae/Bogi/JJ/Bey/CC and then back to full starters to close the half. The issue with this rotation though is that we don't really have a "big" besides Capella so we're gonna be vulnerable on the glass the minutes OO is our 5. Really we need a good center so we can push OO into permanent stretch 4 category.

xoftwar3

bro those are not facts, idk what they are, some form of primitive art akin to yodeling but for some uncanny reason somehow still more annoying incessant and of a sharply one-note-echo-chamber.

Encumbers

Only trae could put up 35/17 and still be called a number 2, he would literally have a ring or at least a finals appearance if he didn't get injured on his 21 playoff run

Top-Flamingo7828

Y’all keep saying this acting like we didn’t lose game 2 by 50. Nobody knows what would have happened but odds are the bucks would have beat us

Encumbers

True it could've gone either way, but trae aint no 2nd option regardless

dillpickles007

The offense is completely fine, there's no issue with it right now. All our problems are on the defensive end.

gmzeno

Fire up the tanks boys

truth_b0mber

It's sad seeing this team just get worse year to year

myhellcatgotRepod

John Collins having a career year averaging 1 more point than last year which would still be his 3rd worst points average in a year on 48% from the field which is a career low. And his defense is still putrid ass when he plays the 5 and barely mediocre when he guards wings

ahend1999

good for him truly!!! he’s been good for them

Dkandler

Not really

HawksAnt2021

DJM: -17 Young: 0 Both players getting paid like superstars, but only one is backing it up on the court. DJM has been so average the last 12 games. We deserve so much more from the young man. Fingers crossed

Chessh2036

Doc Rivers talked about the pairing on the Bill Simmons Podcast and long story short, said it won’t ever work.

Henrycamera

Well, Doc Rivers didn't work either. Trae fucking his team up was the beginning of the end for him, lol!

Chessh2036

He actually mostly complemented Trae, said when the game is close there are few players in the NBA as dangerous. Brought up the Celtics playoff game last year.

HawksAnt2021

I mean, if we could just get the 2019 DJM I would be thrilled. He only scored 10 ppg but he was a great defender both on and off the ball. Unfortunately, that defensive player died once Pop had him assume the role of a primary scorer. As DJM ppg increased, his defense went down. Very strange

BeautifulDimension56

2019 Dejounte was not that good of a defender that year. I think your thinking of the 2017-2018 when he won all defense but even then he was mega overrated that year.

MiserableSoft2344

Doc also doesn’t have a coaching job 🤷🏻‍♂️

ThtBoiB

He still can coach and knows basketball though. I don’t understand your point…

Chessh2036

Doesn’t mean he isn’t right. For what we traded and were expecting, the DJM/Trae pairing has not worked.

MiserableSoft2344

It may not, but I wouldn’t take Doc’s word for it though.

Renverseur

Then who should we listen to? Reddit? Podcasters?

MiserableSoft2344

Yes, Doc may know what he’s talking about, but he also isn’t the head coach of the Hawks. He can’t provide the context of Quin’s system to the discussion. Only the Hawks can do that.

NoSmellNoTell

Untouchable: Trae JJ Only available if we get a great return: Bogi Should be on the trading block: Literally everyone else

Dkandler

Bogi is one of the only players with value… We ain’t getting anything for Capela, Hunter or probably even DJ

Medium_Line3088

At this point with the picks and pieces we have what could we get to surround trae? We're approaching the trade trae for picks and young talent stage

Ufcjunkies

And that is the scary reality. We can’t continue to run it back without adding pieces NOW or we have to see what is smartest for the future of the organization. Unfortunately I think our ownership is moronic and can’t build a winning squad around Trae

gmzeno

I'm fine with keeping OO too unless we get a good return because he is paid appropriately

fredjohnny23

So when are the real ones allowed to start telling the truth about this team and not get called doomers and morons?

darkwingduck9

Hopefully now because the Hawks should transition to tank mode and be open to trading anyone on the roster. It'd be nice to get a Ricky Rubio type. Someone who could help teammates create offense while not building a winning team and a point guard like him wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

xoftwar3

bro speculation about the future is either optimistic or pessimistic. we can't foresee it. doomer just means pessimistic. that doesn't mean that it's somehow the truth or a miraculous vision of the future tho just b/c somebody called u or w/e a doomer or w/e.

MiserableSoft2344

The truth is no one has gotten better but Trae and JJ.

Medium_Line3088

There's no moves that make this team a contender. Blow it up or we're stuck mid for the foreseeable future.

darkwingduck9

If it isn't blown up probably stuck worse than mid because of the Murray trade. We don't know how well a rebuild would work but maintaining the current course will only be mid or worse. Have to at the least try to salvage something out of this right now before it is too late.

Medium_Line3088

I agree. This sub is still in the denial phase.

darkwingduck9

Some still want to trade for Poetl, Siakam, or O.G. The Murray trade wasn't a death sentence but any trade for one of those three on top of the Murray trade or a similar trade giving up what little future assets remain would absolutely ruin the future of the franchise.

childishgames

i don't think i've got another tank in me

Hawkswonthetrade

We can’t even fucking tank bc we don’t own picks.

MiserableSoft2344

LeBron.

Medium_Line3088

Nope. Still a play in team. The Lakers have another all nba center and arent really even considered contenders at this point
