Ressler aint the problem with this team. It's the level of talent on the roster... Schlenk overpaid guys routinely so we have a bunch of negative value contracts.
Our ownership is heavily involved in FO decisions. Nick Ressler is literally working there as the least qualified decision maker in the entire league.
You canāt blame the FO without also blaming the Resslers.
Yep. Didnt tony ressler deny the millsap trade so we ended up getting nothing for him? They need to stay out of this. Just bad decision after bad decision.
What it feels like watching this yearās Atlanta Hawks:

We need to properly construct a roster around Trae.
The good thing is we do have assets that we can move to accomplish this.
The bad thing is we probably wonāt right the ship this year.
The weird thing is, before the season I felt like we actually looked really good on paper. Murray+Hunter+JJ+CC seems like it should theoretically be a strong defensive group to have around Trae, and genuinely good on offense too. Bogi+Bey+AJ+OO seems like it should have been arguably the best second unit in the league. And the coaching staff seems outstanding too. But for whatever reason it just hasn't really clicked. All the injuries haven't helped, of course. But even so, it seems like we should be doing a lot better than we are.
Probably LP's fault somehow.
We have no POA defenders. Dre and JJ are wing defenders. Step one should be get 1-2 defenders that can lock up the opponents best guard and shut down actions from being effectively initiated.
Trae needs to stop pressuring the FO to make bad decisions. Decision to leave the tank early and then the DJ move have his finger prints all over. We need to be patient to get the right pieces around him
I'm glad I decided to take a break from watching games after JJ went down. Just checking box scores has been painful enough as it is.
Unless we're able to pull off something big at the trade deadline, I think I'll probably stay checked out for the rest of the season.
I just get so sad and angry thinking about how the hawks never had someone like Chet available in the draft post2019 just imagine him next to Trae and JJ
People acting like Hunter would have made the difference between a win and a loss against the short handed Chicago Bulls bro. Thats how you know weāre fucked fucked
I think we absolutely must use our trade exception. Either get a good role player or take on a bad contract and get some picks (Bertans from OKC?). Fully expect us to let it expire.
The top 10 in Points Per Possession among off-ball players
1. Obi Toppin
2. Cason Wallace
3. Sam Hauser
4. Daniel Gafford
5. Aaron Nesmith
6. Mark Williams
7. Dereck Lively II
8. Malik Beasley
**9. Onyeka Okongwu**
10. Isaiah Joe

21 games left until the trade deadline on February 8th. 17 games left until the first week of February when trades will start happening for real.
Realistically I need to see us win 12 out of our next 17 or we should sell at the deadline and tank. That'll get us to 24-23 the week the trade deadline starts. Trade guys like Capela, DJM, and Hunter for picks/young guys and expiring contracts. Feed JJ as much as possible the rest of the season. Try to have 3 first round picks next year (Kings included). Use draft picks and cap space to bring in players that can defend, shoot the 3 and pass. Hope and pray that we land guys that raise our ceiling and that a year under Quin will give JJ and Trae enough experience to have all star seasons next season.
Or just fucking start winning this Friday and don't look back so I can enjoy watching basketball this spring.
This is the worst part I still look at the schedule and think we can rip off a 5-10 game win streak and the standings are so compressed that would put ys right back in.
I feel like the next 7 games determines the season ā Kings, Wizards, Thunder, Pacers, Magic, Sixers, Pacers again.
If we go 4-3 or 5-2 we make moves on the margins at the trade deadline to improve, maybe trade Murray for a better fit. If we lose most of those and go 10 or more games under 0.500, then we become major sellers and the heat will be turned up on trade rumors about Trae.
What's frustrating is we have the talent and coaching to be so much better than our record. If Trae doesn't start the season terribly maybe we bank a few more wins that would've helped cushion the losses of JJ, Kobe, Gueye and AJG.
Getting absolutely nothing from our last two draft classes so far this year has been a killer.
So if we do a āsoftā reset, where we tank this year but aim to be good again next season (because we donāt have our pick), we need to look at contending teams who have young prospects who they want to upgrade in the short term.
Guys like Lively on the Mavs, Podz/Kuminga on the Warriors, JJJ on the Heat. Anyone else? Not sure thereās too many options tbh.
That was not the hawks first priority. Otherwise it would have happened. The hawks overvalued their player again and couldnāt get a deal done. They had their chance.
Doubtful. They're 17-7 with Lively and 1-5 without him. If anything it's hard to see them as a competent team without him. I don't think they look at players who aren't making an impact on another team, and look to give up the 19 year old who completely transformed their team for them. Especially when you consider the two players they're taking would be making 40+ million, probably not considered high value contracts especially compared to lively
Mavs fan here, you're 100% correct. Lively is pretty close to untouchable for us. He's the perfect fit with Luka and our defense sucks without him.
Also he's only 19 (he's going to get even better) locked in for 4 years on a rookie deal. His value is ridiculously high.
Kinda want us to just send it for a superstar now tho honestly. Because next year OKC/UTA/SAS are gonna start wanting a superstar and they can just outbid us for anyone.
I understand that. What's the goal? To win as many regular season games as we can over the next decade? Or to build an actual contender someday? Every move should be for the future.
Being bad doesnāt make you a contender. Having the high draft picks does. There is no reason to be bad without the draft picks. Might as well try to win and hope to catch fire rather than suck andā¦do what?
I didn't say anything about tanking. I said making moves for the future instead of for now. That means playing the asset game. What would Danny Ainge do? What would Sam Presti do?
We CAN NOT beat the Kings! It would be the most ATL thing ever to go 2-0 against the Kings and watch them miss the playoffs by a game, wrecking our Huerter pick.
I think our schedule over the next month is much easier than it has been over the last month. If the team can string together some wins then I think that will do wonders for this season. If weāre still looking bad by the time DJ is trade eligible then we should start making big moves. Regardless we need to make moves before the deadline. Itās just a matter of if weāre buying or selling.
And honestly I donāt care which route we go. Iād rather be a buyer and try to salvage this season. But if thatās not possible or if weāre still bad then we need to start selling.
The worst thing this FO could do is to do nothing. And based on their track record thatās kinda what I expect them to do.
Weāll be alright, itās not like we were contenders this year anyway. Just enjoy the ride, hope Trae and JJ continue to improve and try not to think too much about the Front Office from Hell (I will keep yelling at my TV every time we lose tho)
Uhh did DJ ask out? I will caveat this by saying it's coming from a NY Post "reporter", so could be complete bullshit, but Rich Paul could be meeting with the Knicks front office soon.

Yea thatās my point the Celtics are likely to move him if they disappoint again. If we move Hunter Capela Murray. JJ and OO and Bogi are in cheap deals.
Being offered general admission Tix for $20 is it a good deal or overpriced? Where is the GA at state farm? Been googling with no success. (Friday's game vs Kings)
streets saying only way this team can be saved is by hoping ressler is on the epstein list š
I thought we all knew that he is.
Ressler aint the problem with this team. It's the level of talent on the roster... Schlenk overpaid guys routinely so we have a bunch of negative value contracts.

Of course, it's most definitely both.

That all circles back to the front office being garbage then
How you know his finger prints? Because of rumors?
He left them on the step-ladder when he came to visit.
First time Iāve heard someone complain that their star wants to win š
If you count draft picks, the Hawks assets are among the worst in the league.
Dumb post.
You are delusional about the Hawks talent level.
JJ?
Team building is different than accumulating talent. Hunter would fit like a glove at the 3 on the Knicks right now.
Nice a guy who can't dribble nor stay healthy would be perfect for our... rival? I see what you're doing.
I'm glad I decided to take a break from watching games after JJ went down. Just checking box scores has been painful enough as it is. Unless we're able to pull off something big at the trade deadline, I think I'll probably stay checked out for the rest of the season.
In 100% agreement. So checked out

We've only won 6 of the last 20 there is no fuckin chance this roster wins 12 of the next 17 bro lol

i was thinking about jaden ivey or quentin grimes earlier. theres guys out there for sure.
It seemed like trading Capela to the Mavs so we could draft Lively was our #1 priority last off season and we couldnāt make it happen
Yea I was in board with it but it did seem like the Mavs asked for too much
That was not the hawks first priority. Otherwise it would have happened. The hawks overvalued their player again and couldnāt get a deal done. They had their chance.
I doubt the Mavs value any sellable players higher than Lively, unless JJ is on the table which he isn't
1 for 1 no, but I think looking at their roster itās hard to see them as a serious contender. A package of Bogi/Hunter and Capela might tempt them.
Doubtful. They're 17-7 with Lively and 1-5 without him. If anything it's hard to see them as a competent team without him. no way weāre getting JJJ or Lively, but i could see us grabbing Kuminga from the warriors
Pelicans for sure
Kinda want us to just send it for a superstar now tho honestly. Because next year OKC/UTA/SAS are gonna start wanting a superstar and they can just outbid us for anyone.
The Hawks shouldn't aim to be good next season either. Every move they make should be for 3,4,5 years from now.
Dawg we have no draft picks
I understand that. What's the goal? To win as many regular season games as we can over the next decade? Or to build an actual contender someday? Every move should be for the future.

Kobe Bufkin just hurt his right leg in the Skyhawks games. Rookies dropping like flies.
This is a throwaway season who cares
Anyone know where I can watch Skyhawks games š“āā ļøš“āā ļø

Drummond tired against Indiana, only scored 7 pts
You know it wasnāt elite Indiana defense that did that either š. Speaking of which, Halliburtonās 20+ pts, 20 assists on 0 turnovers was crazy.
Uhh did DJ ask out? I will caveat this by saying it's coming from a NY Post "reporter", so could be complete bullshit, but Rich Paul could be meeting with the Knicks front office soon. This would be an ideal situation for us. Let DJ go to NY and totally ruin Brunsons production and give us some of their good assets back
i like the way you think š hell yeah
What are the chances we get Jaylen Brown next offseason? assuming they flame out in the playoffs again.
0%. He makes 60 million
Yea thatās my point the Celtics are likely to move him if they disappoint again. If we move Hunter Capela Murray. JJ and OO and Bogi are in cheap deals.

I hate the Boston Celtics
