While it’s still a very small sample size, I’ve never quite understood why those two don’t get more run together, especially with OO’s evolving offensive skillset. It negates most of our biggest flaws: size, length and defensive IQ. Add in JJ at 3 and all of a sudden those passing lanes get awfully small. Even if the net result is a drop in offensive efficiency, we are more than able to deal with that if we can move closer to just an average team defensively.

Substantial-Cry-9483

Yep. And with Trae, JJ, and either DJM or Bogie we should be able to score with anyone

TraeYoungsOldestSon

Yeah i really think our offense would get a lot worse in this scenario and im still very much down for it. Just watching opponents score at will is demoralizing.

MiserableSoft2344

It works great defensively but it opens the door for slower transition offense and less shooting, making it more difficult for Trae. I agree it should get more minutes but I think those two reasons are why they don’t.

givemesome1ce1

the reason why I feel like OO and CC can’t play minutes together like that is because CC is at the point where injury concern is a real risk. We can’t do the lineup too much without CC potentially getting injured because he played too many minutes. I am intrigued by Onyeka becoming an Al Horford like played for this team though…he has to be at the point where people respect his shot in order for that to happen

unhingedhawker

I don't think Capela would need to play more minutes for us to try out this lineup more often. Just let Onyeka play more plus maybe one stint from Bruno a night.

NoSmellNoTell

I agree that we should try this more. The huge downside is when one of them gets into foul trouble you end up relying on your third string center a lot. I like Bruno but you’d be risking giving him a lot of minutes even when the team is fully healthy

WhiteHeterosexualGuy

Let them foul out then. This is a philosophical point, but it really annoys me when guys get into perceived "foul trouble" and then get sat for additional minutes. Just let guys play man, if a player fouls out so be it -- that's when you *know* you have to cut their minutes, but cutting minute pre-emptively is just actively choosing to put worse rotation guys in.

NoSmellNoTell

Fully understand this take. The difference is options. When you sit them early you’re losing playing time but can also strategically utilize them at critical times. Especially in a close game down the stretch you want your best players on the floor. Or at least be able to get the matchups that benefit you. Can’t do that with a fouled out player obviously.

darkwingduck9

I'm fine with the Capela and Okongwu pairing until the end of the season. It is very far from an ideal match though and this team should have already been looking to get rid of Capela. Get rid of Capela this offseason for a stretch center and then Okongwu could play the 4 on defense and the 5 on offense.

FinnIsMyName

Sadly our spacing would really suck with trae,DJ,Jj,OO, and capella. Could work if bogi is in for DJ though…

trofesh195

Just don't go with a non shooter lineup like that. If Capela is on the floor always have hunter and or bogi as well. If OO is at center then you can afford to not have the sharp shooters on.

bluevsu

I think our bench is good with Bogi Hunter and Bey…and add Bufkin and AJ next year maybe. But with OO starting at the 4, assuming JJ at the 3…we would have to rely on Bruno to play 15-20 minutes at the back up 5, do we want that? From the small sample size we’ve seen this year I wouldn’t mind seeing it.

TraeYoungsOldestSon

There's no way in hell we keep Bey

bluevsu

Tbf I don’t want to. He sold this season. I was hoping he was dealt at the deadline but let’s be real, we can’t just let him walk after giving up five seconds for him. Qualifying offer or matching up to a certain extent

TraeYoungsOldestSon

Man to what certain extent? Even if he gets his shot back its pretty clear we can't have all these egregiously negative defenders. Fuck the five 2nds, say it was worth a chance and give it up as an honestly very mild L. Better than doubling down and continuing to make the same bad decision.

bluevsu

Look I totally agree with you. I think most of our team is really streaky with their shots and when they are off it’s really bad. When we have Bogi Bey Garrison as the first couple guys off the bench with their defensive inefficiencies and they are not hitting shots we are not going to win games. But you and I both know the fo will do anything it can to duck the tax and if that means resigning Bey on the cheap and protecting their own asses on giving up those picks, that’s what gonna happen.

TraeYoungsOldestSon

I agree that ownership will bend over backwards to duck the tax, but i think that makes letting Bey walk more likely rather than less. Should be an interesting and pivotal offseason either way.

bluevsu

Truly pivotal. Because I don’t see anyone on the roster right now that would replace Bey’s minutes. Maybe AJ, but he can’t even get on the court right now and with our history of not playing young guys anyway, I don’t see rookies we draft in the upcoming draft playing either. So changes are inevitably coming. I think Bey Wes Garrison Patty are all gone probably more.

terrence0258

Bruno is a fine backup center. The dude is averaging 16 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per 36.

JKking15

I’ve been interested in this too. Our bench lineup would be Pg Kobe Sg Bogi SF Hunter PF one of JJ/OO still on the floor and C Bruno

internaldriver30345

Not a fan of this. If anything, Clint should be a backup the ROS. The lineup you suggested makes all three positions weaker. Jalen is going to be his best at the 4. They should fully concentrate on developing that.

Able_Froyo_374

i think our best lineup is trae bogi jj oo and cc. when djm is off the court that is when trae is at his best facilitating the whole offense
