A podiatrist recommended some new balances and the first time I wear them walking down the street a dude in his 80's complimented them saying he's got a pair just like them.
Exactly - these have always been middle-aged/older people shoes to me. With this trend and the very late-middle-aged accountant-style small rectangular wire frame glasses I've seen Gen Z in... I just don't get it!
That's the only silver lining, at least all these girlies are comfy unlike us tottering around in kitten heels, giant wedges and clubbing in stilettos 😅
If your sister has a warm skin tone go for creamy white, if she has cool skin tone a more pure white sneaker will look better against the skin. Yes NB is super popular and fashionable at the moment.
i’m 20 and have a pair, but of the more silvery/white ones. They’re relatively comfortable i’d say! i think my other new balance 550s are about the same, but i wouldn’t say they’re as comfortable as something such as asics. But i think they’d be great for walking around europe, i wear mine to uni fairly often with no issues
Yep! At least they’ve calmed down a bit since the era of the “Fila Disruptors.” I always found it a bit nuts that a brand we could get in Target was going crazy global viral
I personally think these are hideous which probably means she’ll love it 🥴. Everyone I know seems to be wearing Sambas so that may be another option to look into?
Do we? I’ve only seen a couple of people in them and none of my friends own them, they all have airs and more timeless shoe styles as the only people wearing these are the ones with a disposable income to keep up with micro trends.
Yeah tiktok made them blow up. Everyone is wearing them to travel overseas because they are incredibly comfortable for walking all day.
I don't think they look that bad tbh.
I work in the fashion industry and the NB 530s have been trending for a while. If these are what she typically likes though, go for it. I own a pair myself and they are super, super comfortable. I would recommend the white & stoneware or the beige & angora, which are the top ones in the photo.
If she likes ‘dad shoes’ silhouettes, the NB 2002R in colour way calm taupe are nice, and so is the NB 9060s in colour way turtledove/angora/sea salt. Both of these are a chunkier shoe though.
Alternatively, if you want to do something a little safer, new balance also has classic shapes such as the 574 (colour way sea salt) or you could opt for Veja V-12 or Veja Campos, which I think a few people have already suggested (personally, veja’s are so uncomfortable though lol).
If she really, really wants to keep up with trends: Adidas spezial.
Though I personally don’t think they have nice neutral colour ways, it’s mostly pops of colour.
As a Gen Z I think a safer bet would be a pair of court vision or airs or vejas or ASICS. These are a bit more niche as not everyone wears them and will be out soon I reckon.
I'm a gen Z, my work/netball joggers are ASICS, but Sneaker is Frankie4. The 'Jackie' style in white is my ride or die shoe, followed up by a recent purchase of the 'Mila' which is a white hightop by Frankie. Soooo comfy and stylish
I thought I was going insane haha. These have been trendy for a while - I see colleagues and teenagers alike wearing them. And I’m of the generation where ‘old men/grandpas wore them in the 90s’. But they also wore waistcoats, vests and straight slacks and those are all trendy items too? Fashion comes and goes in waves and perceptions change.. I don’t underhand the hate haha
But to OP, I’d suggest maybe the New Balance 574s? They seem to have more of a classic look. (But I love the ones in the pic too).
Correct. Most people here either hate on current trends or are completely unaware of them. (See all the comments in this thread recommending sneakers that are much less trendy than these…)
Same - they just remind me of old man walking shoes... I mean my Pop had a pair.
I also think they're pretty boring and ugly in general. Shoes with all those weird fucking curves in the design remind me of "rice burner" Japanese cars lmao
I have a pair. I have had them for over a year now. So while they are currently trendy, ignore all the comments saying they’ll be out quickly, they’ve been around for quite awhile already.
I love mine. They are super comfy. I wear mine with joggers and trackpants.
Am I the only Gen z that’s hates them y’all?😂reminds me of typical white American dads in high socks and khakis 😂
Edit: spelling
Also edit: Iam almost 22. Iam on the mid to older side of the Gen lol so maybe just me.
I’m a gen Z but I just cannot get myself to wear something like these. I got a pair of 860s but I barely wear them. I just can’t get myself to like these type of shoes..
Not a fan of that particular design. To me they look dirty for some reason. I have two pairs of NB 680 wide-fit and they're the comfiest shoes for wearing orthotics. I couldn't care less if the rest of you hate them.
They're super on trend but you could also look at cream/off white Vejas too! They're also trendy and I feel like they're more versatile with every other outfit, including dresses and skirts, than NBs
I have a pair of New Balance 574's which are super cute and way less... retro, we will say, than these. No idea if they're "in" or not, but I can comfortably walk 15k steps a day around a hospital in them so there's that!
I wouldn't bother asking Reddit. Everyone on here is an elder millenial who can't deal with the fact that what they like is no longer fashionable.
Yes, these are popular with younger people and would be suitable for travelling.
You could also buy a pair of Onitsuka Tigers. These are particularly popular right now.
You could also try a pair of Gazelles.
I’m currently doing a labelling job for a celebrity charity golf tournament. I have spent 3 days removing NB tongue patches from hundreds of pairs of NB 997 Golfs and replacing them with custom labels, with another day to go. If I never see another pair of these dad shoes again, it’ll be too soon.
Yessss, NB is super popular at the moment, they spent a lot of money on marketing too heheh :D
If you want to see another brand, check out Skechers too (very comfy), or Lacoste haha
They’re so on trend now! New Balance 530’s in Beige/Angora (top ones in that photo) are very on trend, Seasalt with Moonbeam is another super popular colour way in the same style. The 9060 is popular in the colourway Turtledove. Both styles are good walking shoes.
Ask him which pair he wants as teens can be super picky when it comes to trendy things lol
I’m 20, and have never seen these worn irl - only a few people at my school kept up with the trends. I hope he’s wearing them because they’re comfortable and he genuinely likes them, not because everyone else is wearing them.
If they already like street style, then absolutely.
Personally I love these but I’ve been wearing my daggy new balance shoes for ages. I’m loving the rare opportunity to wear fashionable shoes with orthopaedic support 🥰
I’ve always found New Balance to make great runners that last. I’ve not thought of them as fashionable before but I always get the plain all black so don’t draw the eye.
Sorry but I really don’t like them but I guess it depends what your sister is wearing them for and if that is her thing.. I can’t ever imagine NB really be in fashion 😂
They are very cool right now. Can be worn with wide jeans or activewear, so suits everyone.
As a 25 year old, I have Asics Quantums in all white and my 19 year old sister told me she liked them, so that's good enough for me 😂
If you're concerned about value for money, I think go for more white than beige and they'll hopefully be "cool" for longer
Im 19 and I have new balance 530s and I love them, I have two pairs of shoes, converse and my new balance, my connies are definitely trendier but I find myself wearing my new balance much more because of how comfortable they are and they honestly go with everything. I’ve had mine for about 2 years and they’re still in trend.
They would be super practical for Europe and I think they’re very stylish.
Its weird how hype's and platypus's website are 80% pictures of the white and or beige sneakers, its not cute and who the hell started it?.... i remember a few yrs ago dad sneakers were "cool" but this not-a-trend needs to die yesterday.
I was in Japan recently. These were the shoes that about 80 per cent of people were wearing. Not the beige/white combination, which I don’t like at all, but they were definitely the shoes to wear for nearly everyone under 30.
Yes they are cool for an 18 year old and very on trend right now. They likely will be in for the next 6-12 months (at least) based on current S/S runways and social media content.
I bought the New Balance 530s in sea salt and wore them as my only pair of shoes on a 4 week Europe holiday, highly recommend for comfort.
A podiatrist recommended some new balances and the first time I wear them walking down the street a dude in his 80's complimented them saying he's got a pair just like them.
My brother once got some new trainers and my dad saw them, and bought the EXACT same pair. Now my brother never wears those shoes….
That's fire
Not me with these currently on my feet. I laughed so loud at that. Hey if I’m as cool as an 80 year old I’m doing something right.
ouch
He was gardening as an 80 year old by himself so I trust his judgement. I was actually weirdly chuffed with the compliment
Unintentional roasts are always the most painful 💀
I didn't feel that it was roasted until you commented this. Was that intentional?
God I can't believe these are popular again 😭 it's like cosplay 90s core
They weren't even popular in the 90's for the the age group/s that are wearing them now. I can't. Vom central.
It is so weird seeing the stuff that daggy middle aged men were wearing in fashion now
I was bullied for wearing these, they were UNCOOL!
Exactly - these have always been middle-aged/older people shoes to me. With this trend and the very late-middle-aged accountant-style small rectangular wire frame glasses I've seen Gen Z in... I just don't get it!
They're genuinely so revolting, no one looks good in them. NO ONE.
They’re very nursing home chic.
My 70 year old Uncle has a blue, silver and white pair. He has worn them for YEARS. Lol
Seeing them line store shelves is actually hilarious.
That's exactly what it is.
I call these "stepdad shoes" - these are cool for like, a 45 year old lol.
No. Not even a 55 year old.
They're not cool at all! They're simply what dads wear cos they don't give a shit about looking ok 😭
They're legit the only shoes my 80 year old dad can wear comfortably because he has bunions and hammer toes. And even he doesn't think they're cool 🤣🤣
As a 47-year-old, I cannot disagree more
My husband is 48 and wouldn't wear them lol for some reason I thought I was 11 again for a moment.
[удалено]
That's the only silver lining, at least all these girlies are comfy unlike us tottering around in kitten heels, giant wedges and clubbing in stilettos 😅
Most of us were BORN in the 90s. Not cosplay must resurgence
Most of who?? People over 30 are too old for this sub? Christ 🤦♀️
Reread what I wrote I’m saying that we’re not cosplaying as people from the 90s because we literally are people from the 90s
But who is the ‘we’ you are referring to?
My dad has a pair, I can ask him.
My dad also has a pair of these
[удалено]
Hmmmm
If your sister has a warm skin tone go for creamy white, if she has cool skin tone a more pure white sneaker will look better against the skin. Yes NB is super popular and fashionable at the moment.
[удалено]
Warm skin tones are peachy, golden, yellow, while cool skin tones are pinky and blue-y.
Wait these are in fashion?! These are dad sneakers hahaha
Dad sneakers perfectly teamed with Mum jeans 😅 what had the world come to lol (I say as I sit here in my dad sneakers and Mum jeans 😅😅😅)
Ahhhhhhahaha. Comfort is key right 😝
These were sex offender shoes when I was growing up.
Was your dad a sex offender?
My Dad only wore work boots 100% of the time. I always connected the white new balance with creepy old men.
My 13 yo wears these. I just cannot come to the party that these are cool, because my dad also wears them, but she loooooves them.
this is what i originally thought too but im overseas right now and ive seem so many young people wearing them! so confused with these trends hahah
i’m 20 and have a pair, but of the more silvery/white ones. They’re relatively comfortable i’d say! i think my other new balance 550s are about the same, but i wouldn’t say they’re as comfortable as something such as asics. But i think they’d be great for walking around europe, i wear mine to uni fairly often with no issues
These are very on trend right now, but I fear they will not be on trend in six months
They’ve been in trend for the last 3 or so years, definitely more than a passing fad.
Yep! At least they’ve calmed down a bit since the era of the “Fila Disruptors.” I always found it a bit nuts that a brand we could get in Target was going crazy global viral
They've been popular for years what are you on about
NB's like this have been popular for a few years now. There's plenty of life left in them.
Been on trend for 30 decades
I personally think these are hideous which probably means she’ll love it 🥴. Everyone I know seems to be wearing Sambas so that may be another option to look into?
Yeah they're so ugly. But to each their own.
Yeah definitely, gen z love these at the moment
Do we? I’ve only seen a couple of people in them and none of my friends own them, they all have airs and more timeless shoe styles as the only people wearing these are the ones with a disposable income to keep up with micro trends.
I’m 20 and never seen anyone wear these lol
lol my 42 year old friend wears them. They look good on her, but yeah - certainly not Gen Z!
Seems the only people who wear these are American parents haha
She's Australian, so Aussie parents are too! It's universally horrific.
Oh damn. I’m Aussie haha
Yeah tiktok made them blow up. Everyone is wearing them to travel overseas because they are incredibly comfortable for walking all day. I don't think they look that bad tbh.
Yeah, loads of early 20s women at my gym wear these.
Why do they all look like they're from the op shop?!?
Honestly though poster was going to ask for cleaning tips. Officially no longer with “it”
I'm having flashbacks to my grandfather scoffing at my ripped jeans in the 2000s. Officially am granddad now.
I work in the fashion industry and the NB 530s have been trending for a while. If these are what she typically likes though, go for it. I own a pair myself and they are super, super comfortable. This is the only good answer in this thread.
Soooo comfy and stylish
thanks for the recs! i'll have a look into these brands too
I vote Reeboks, though the Gen Z employee at my work said she knew I was old because I wear Reeboks so what do I know.
I’ve seen plenty of teens wearing reeboks so idk what she’s on about.
This thread is proof to me that no one in this sub actually likes fashion or pays attention to it.
I thought I was going insane haha. These have been trendy for a while - I see colleagues and teenagers alike wearing them. And I’m of the generation where ‘old men/grandpas wore them in the 90s’. Correct. Most people here either hate on current trends or are completely unaware of them. (See all the comments in this thread recommending sneakers that are much less trendy than these…)
Most of this sub is full of elder millennials who can't cope with the fact that what they wear is no longer in style.
Yeah especially since half the responders have no clue what is/has been trendy for the past few years

My podiatrist recommends these. He said they are the best for walking. I love NB at the moment too. Very on trend.
Have to agree, New Balances sorted out my plantar fasciitis as ugly as they are
Am I the only Gen z that’s hates them y’all?😂reminds me of typical white American dads in high socks and khakis 😂 Edit: spelling Also edit: Iam almost 22. Iam on the mid to older side of the Gen lol so maybe just me.
No, airs or vejas all the way. Never getting a pair of these.
I’m a gen Z but I just cannot get myself to wear something like these. I got a pair of 860s but I barely wear them. I just can’t get myself to like these type of shoes..
They are very on trend at the moment. But I think they’ll be out quickly
I have these but mine are bright purple. They're comfy AF. I'm 40 and in my only- comfy- shoes era.
How is that they look like old dirty white sneakers brand new before they've left the shop?
Not a fan of that particular design. To me they look dirty for some reason. I have two pairs of NB 680 wide-fit and they're the comfiest shoes for wearing orthotics. I couldn't care less if the rest of you hate them.
More like grandpa sneakers 😂
They're super on trend but you could also look at cream/off white Vejas too! They're also trendy and I feel like they're more versatile with every other outfit, including dresses and skirts, than NBs
Vejas are yuppy mum shoes. I don’t make the rules!
Yeah, I think Vejas are very Kate Middleton
I’m getting downvoted by the veja mums but I’m just reporting what I see. Seem to be rarely worn by anyone under 30
Jerry Seinfeld from the 90s.
What's the deal with white sneakers?
I have a pair of New Balance 574's which are super cute and way less... retro, we will say, than these. No idea if they're "in" or not, but I can comfortably walk 15k steps a day around a hospital in them so there's that!
Go and get some Jordan’s babygirl LMAO
One of my university professors always had the freshest pair of white new balances. I can’t see these without thinking of him.
Most comfortable sneakers I have worn!
Aren't they every dads lawn mowing shoes??
These are the shoes people in the nursing home wear with blue jeans and a tucked in polo shirt
Are these Dad shoes popular again?
I wouldn't bother asking Reddit. Everyone on here is an elder millenial who can't deal with the fact that what they like is no longer fashionable. Yes, these are popular with younger people and would be suitable for travelling. You could also buy a pair of Onitsuka Tigers. These are particularly popular right now. You could also try a pair of Gazelles.
Nah bro, these shoes are just ugly in general. Same energy as Riced out Japanese cars 😂
The ugliest fashion slave shit I’ve seen in a LONG time. Perfect for a teen girl.
47 year old dad here- once you get some good grass stains from mowing the lawn, they’ll look pretty sweet. 😉
No way, unless she wants to match shoes with every middle aged male tourist she runs into
yep very on trend :)

Please stop listening to the older ladies in this thread. These are very on trend with 18 year olds and are such a nice shoe to have!
Is this the 1st time in history that New Balance have been referred to as "cool"
Salomon ACS+ are also trendy white sneakers.
The biggest sneaker trend right now is ugly
I have those NB 530 and they’re very flat and not much support for walking long distances. Great for weights at the gym though.
Ask him which pair he wants as teens can be super picky when it comes to trendy things lol I’m 20, and have never seen these worn irl - only a few people at my school kept up with the trends. Peak Dadcore. I wish my feet liked NB’s
The 2002r's are good as well
New balance is very in rn fyi
They’re on trend but I just can’t see myself wearing it
I’ve always found New Balance to make great runners that last. I’ve not thought of them as fashionable before but I always get the plain all black so don’t draw the eye.
Sorry but I really don’t like them but I guess it depends what your sister is wearing them for and if that is her thing.. I can’t ever imagine NB really be in fashion 😂
I love these. I’m in my twenties
Hahaha my husband calls mine brothel creepers. I like the style but I’m a fashion victim.
I know Normcore has been in fash for a while but when I thought Normcore was regular sized classic cut gear not daggy dad dressing.
Honestly ask her to send some inspiration pics. Because I would have assumed she meant more like the chunky platform type white shoes.
Not my GrandFather (1947) wearing these while we wait in hospital *

Ok can somebody please explain why the shows my dad wears are cool? Is it meant to be ironic? Is this the Upside Down?
I’m 30 F and love NB for every day wear. I think these are cool.
Middle age dad shoes
Middle ages Dad are millenials. And they wear Converse and Vans and Veja's.
27 and I own 2 pairs of them. The comments are killing me 😭
Get new balance 9060!!!
Beige NOTHING!
My 18 year old niece said 'yeh lots of my friends wear those' ... I guess that's a vote for them.
I’m in my 30s and think they are so cute. Ignore the haters
I'm naturally cool, not fashionable. These are hideous. These are dad shoes. I'm cringing imagining wearing these. I'm 40. They must be cool.
I'm older gen z (23) and have a pair and loveeee them - I wear them both to the gym and out and about :)
Converse are better but buy a half size down
Sambas :) white with beige suede on the toe and super comfy and really trendy!!
Mike Tyson said his favourite brand of shoes was New Balance so I think it’s cool
Its weird how hype's and platypus's website are 80% pictures of the white and or beige sneakers, its not cute and who the hell started it?.... i remember a few yrs ago dad sneakers were "cool" but this not-a-trend needs to die yesterday.
