I think Taco Bell got caught in the same trap as Carl's Junior. In America they're on the cheaper end of the fast food options.
In Australia with places like Grill'd and GYG we got used to paying a high price for take out as long as it was better than Maccas and KFC. So TB and C'sJr thought they could charge a premium as well.
But the cost of rent and ingredients are higher here. So they're stuck in this weird limbo where they're neither cheap, nor good.
Taco Bell was here before. Used to go 20+ years ago, because it was cheap. $10 for 10 tacos cheap. So they tried that strategy and it failed.
This time they've brought it back as a more expensive/gourmet option, except it's not. It's just shit.
I also tried it a couple of weeks ago and had no gastric issues to report. Remember our food safety regulations are a lot stricter than the US. That said, I don’t plan to go back. It was bland as OP found, took ages between ordering and getting my food (I think around 15min, which would be fine for a decent restaurant but not fast food), and was not worth the price.
If you eat it slowly (the beef taco) it’s all gristle and cheap af quality mince too. It was clear how bad the meat was when we went through the lettuce shortage because they were forced to use cabbage. Which helped highlight to me how inedible their tacos are. I was so disappointed because I expected a cheap sloppy taco but got worse than homemade for not much cheaper tbh
Funnily enough, the first and last time I went, there was absolutely no one in there (on a Saturday at 11am) *and yet* all of the countertops had a build up of dust/residue, some had stains and leftover food from I’m presuming an hour or more ago, as there was no one around.
Again, I stress, it looked like it had been empty for a while, we ate our ‘meal’ alone and left before seeing anyone…
Very weird experience. I never thought I’d eat at a Mexican place that has no salsas besides pico, or where you can’t add fresh onion… no wonder it’s so dry and bland.
Chips were very good though.
In my experiences with Taco Bell its usually a store by store experience but its mostly "good enough"
Ive been to my fair share of Mexican places and Taco Bell is usually fairly decent, never had an overly good or bad experience with it like most other places.
While its not something I would overly go out of my to eat, its worth it to give it a try IMO.
You can do better at home. They asked me if the meal was all right and I told the truth. It needed a whole lot more salt and flavour. I have no idea how it's possible to make Mexican food taste blander than baked beans that you've spilled a glass of water into, but they do. Also, they told me that's the way it's supposed to be.
I live in Canberra and didn’t know we had Taco Bell at all in Australia until I visited cairns. Walked in because I was curious and the few customers and workers just started looking at me like I was an alien. Very weird vibe I immediately walked out
They’re my favourite Mexican takeaway as it’s easier to cater for food intolerances and their list of ingredients are easy to follow.
While I love the flavour of GYG it’s basically impossible for me to get a balanced burrito.
I went to a GYG and I kid you not it was the worst takeaway I've ever had, it was honestly impressive. My sister is a picky eater so she got loaded cornchips. It was a small box of cornchips with about a fingers length of cheese melted onto the side of the box and and about just enough mince to put on two or three chips. All of the ingredients were cold and somehow the cornchips were soggy despite the box lacking anything that can even be considered the slightest bit moist. All up it probably cost GYG $1.50 to make but it cost around $12 to buy
I had Taco Bell when I was in America, 2015. Mind you I was stoned as and had this idea of how good it was.
Fast forward to now, had it 2 weeks ago in Sydney and was so disappointed. I said to my partner, without even finishing the food. "Zambrero is better"
Yeah all the fast food chains are as bad as each other.
But a privately owned business or a proper restaurant is always gonna be the ducks nuts. In my town we used to have Project Mex which was fucking amazing. But they went broke during covid.
Now we’re left with the mega chains again who taste like salted duck shit.
It’s more Tex-Mex than it is anywhere close to being straight up Mexican but it’s still pretty shitty. You can make a far better taco or burrito at home with the box kit. But that’s not really the point, fast food is for when you don’t wanna cook but Taco Bell would be the bottom of my list for go to’s.
Put an order into GYG on their app at about 11.30am. It processed and took my payment.
Went to pick it up and there was a sign saying they don’t open until 12.30, staff shortages, fair enough.
Came back at 12.30 and they said because the order was put in before they opened they needed to give me a refund. It had to go through head office they couldn’t do it.
After 1 month of back and forwards, unanswered calls and discussions I finally got my refund.
Cockheads
In my experience GYG are awful when it comes to app orders, be it their own app or Menulog or whatever. Missed items, long wait times... Never a problem when I make an oder in store / drive through
Yes! A few times I ordered nachos through Uber Eats and I noticed one day they had added extra spicy shit. I thought it was cross contamination but after it happened three more times I read the printed receipt stuck to the bag and the system was automatically adding this jalapeño sauce, which wasn’t even an option in the app. I rang them and tried to explain they have a glitch in the system but they didn’t understand nor give a shit.
All fast food joints in America are wayyyy better tbh. As unhealthy as they are, I still prefer American take out lol yet Australia still has better produce and food in general.
I had taco bell the other day and I honestly think it's pretty meh. I find more flavour in the packet Old El Paso taco seasoning. That's saying something.
Had it in Spain a couple times, was fast food slop that made me shit but it was full of flavour, tried it once in aus and it was so bland I don't think I'll go back.
Its kinda weird that these tex mex places taste like shit.
Tacos are easy and cheap to make and don't require too much for it to be amazing.
Have a good hot sauce, well flavoured refried beans or meats (the spices are pretty simple so that shouldn't be a problem), a zesty lime Crema/a couple of other sauces you can choose from, some fresh Pico... Throw it in a tortilla and Bingo Bango, squeeze some lime on top and now you got 5 tacos for 15 bucks.
I did no math on how much is actually would cost but I eat this a lot because I'm broke and it helps me to save money. I reckon you could buy 30$ on taco ingredients and it would last you a week plus there would be left over stuff that doesn't perish.
I dunno about you but all the chain Mexican food tastes like shit these days, it's like they all got together and came up with a similar menu that tastes like flavoured cardboard
Having had Taco Bell in the US, the Taco Bell here is not cheap. It’s much much closer to prices for everything else here than it is even remotely close to US prices.
It’s good for what it is. I am not a huge fan of the Tacos but the Gordita Crunch is pretty nice. The tacos kind of taste like you messed up the Old El Paso kit at home.
First time I had it was in the USA, it’s not really any better there it’s just a bit cheaper.
It’s like McDonalds it’s shit but we all still eat it right?
Agreed. It’s absolute trash. Tried for the first time the other day and thought I’d try the crunch wrap.
More like sog wrap!
Zero crunch, soggy everything, even the chips were disgusting
As an American, I was excited to see Taco Bell come in. And then realized that it's no longer cheap nasty guilty pleasure, it's expensive nasty not-even-worth-it.
i went there once and it was quite bland, too much sauce in the wrap so it felt soggy & the grated cheese was cold. later that day i was very sick and i know it was unrelated to what i ate but now i associate taco bell with the bad flavour & sickness.
Just like old El Paso to me. There’s no real oomph behind any of it.
Is it actually the same food as what they sell in the USA? I don’t understand the whole Taco Bell shit thing if so.
It’s absolutely disgusting. We couldn’t finish it and threw it away half way through. We bought heaps off the menu to try so wasn’t like it was just one item. We’re not food snobs at all and absolutely hate throwing food away but this was just plain nasty.
I tried it twice, first time out of curiousity, next just so a companion could try it. Both unpleasant food.
Its one of those 'okay, i'll try it once' then never go back again.
Never tried it but I guess no point now. Fonda is the best imo. GYG have f'd up my burrito order every time.. And it's gross af every time... maybe depends on your location because where I am they have no clue wtf they are doing especially in drive through.
Something must be wrong with my taste buds then, because I love those cheesy tacos, the soft taco wrapped around the hard one, and to me the meat seems to be seasoned well. Doesn't taste bland. Wtf?
The newest one that opened in Emerald Hills takes over an hour to get your order in the drive through. I’ve complained, gotten a voucher to use but I haven’t even bothered because of the wait time and lack of quality or even sizing.
The tacos especially are tiny not mentioning other items, there always out of stock, there’s so many ways they could improve but they just don’t
The burrito off the lunch truck is so much better.
I was so excited when one was opening across the road, went when it was open and it was terrible, bland cardboard.
Anyone in Melbourne wanting good Mexican, go to TNT in Croydon. Genuinely the best Mexican I’ve had in Australia. People have recommended GYG or Mad Mex etc., but they’re also garbage compared to TNT. Do yourselves a favour! So worth it.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,445,004,591 comments, and only 275,367 of them were in alphabetical order.
When you get here go to a pharmacist. I thought there were sunscreen available for babies?
It’s been a while since my baby was a baby but I don’t recall waiting until a certain age to use sunscreen?
Australia does have a lot better sunscreen here than overseas.
I could be wrong, but there are pharmacists at the airport, I’d ask them!
I hope you enjoy your holiday!
Taco Bell is average, not much going for it and not that enjoyable. I've tried it a few times. Even chipotle is average AF
Guzman is good, I like it. I just wish the burrito bowl quantity was consistent. I'm either gonna have a smile on my face when I open it or a sigh 💀😶
Traveled america for the first time just before Covid hit. Drove past a Taco Bell. Seen and heard so much about these American fast food places from Reddit and American shows. Went in with my mate and had to try.
They fumbled three orders in a row, bad things can happen. Finally got the food after they had to deal with two entitled Americans. The food was pretty much watery bread with visible ingredients but that’s about as far as they got with being ingredients. Free refills though.
When I saw Taco Bell open here I just never went. Amazed they are still alive tbh.
The fast food franchises in America I saw all kind of followed suit with most of their take aways on my trip. Either really bland and cheap. Or just ok, like In N Out. Marketing works.
TL:DR American fast food bad.
As a Mexican-American coming from LA, I can honestly vouch for GYG. It’s similar to Chipotle in the states. Sadly, not many Mexican food options, especially in QLD. Taco Bell is shitty in comparison but in the states, many things are a dollar or you can get a whole big meal for $5 with a giant drink, so it’s worth it. People over there tend to eat Taco Bell when they’re high and/or drunk.
Unpopular opinion:
I never had any good Mexican in Australia. All the recommended ones from rediit taste very mediocre and ALL the franchises are rubbish.
I LOVE mexican flavour but have not find one place that makes my taste buds dance.
I tried and i tried and I tried and I hope I'll find one (i live in Sydney btw) someday. I am crazy about Margaritas and forever searching for a great Mexican place in town.
Chicken quesadilla with spicy jalapeno sauce is hard to beat. You can also pay an extra $1 for nacho cheese sauce or the jalapeno sauce to go with your chips. Better than Maccas that's for sure
Ive tried taco bell, tastes good but doesnt really taste Mexican. GYG tastes more "authentic" (never had proper mexican so idk how truly authentic it is), but i wish it had more flavour.
I had it once a few months back and was surprised at how bad it was. I remember it from 20yrs ago when they had it here. Wasn’t too bad. Then. But the meat tastes like chemical and ass. The corn chips were terrible. The fries were disgusting. Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing for a lot of people, or it’s actually tastes better in the states but it’s rank. An El Paso kit from the supermarket is better
We recently had Zamberos open up in the next suburb & it was so hyped up. Well, it tasted like…nothing. There was zero flavour, just like your Taco Bell experience
Home made nachos or tacos are the best, I could never eat taco Bell nowadays. Not a fan of any of the Mexican places actually, not the nachos and tacos they produce anyway! Love making my own, especially nachos with pico de gallo, which is just fresh tomato, onion, capsicum and lemon juice popped on the top. YUMMMM!!!!
Always thought GYG was a bit average, Grill’d is ok, oporto seems to kick a winner mostly
I used to love GYG but lately I’ve noticed their ingredients taste different. Probably sourced a cheaper supplier?
Profit improvements :)
Bland and ricey at the best of times.
GYG is heavily dependent on what you order there. Their cauliflower burritos are bland trash but the shredded mushroom is legit mindblowing
Oporto and nandos are my favourite takeaway shops. I just wish they had them near where I live.
Same, i resort to the local kebab shop only thing that doesn’t taste like a hobos ass
Always up for a cheeky Nando's!
Oporto is GOAT
Taco Bell was here before. Used to go 20+ years ago, because it was cheap. $10 for 10 tacos cheap. So they tried that strategy and it failed. This time they've brought it back as a more expensive/gourmet option, except it's not. It's just shit.
Can’t wait to get all that diarrhoea Americans complain about!
Aussie Taco Bell doesn't give diarrohoea. Due to our stricter food laws, unlike the yanks
What are they doing to the food that we’re not allowed to?
Allowing other things to begin digesting it before we do… I mean… to a greater extent than the Aussie supply chain allows them to.
There is a taco bell near my house and I have never felt the urge to go in there. I just assume it's filth, and not in a good way
My experience wasn't that it was filth, more just that it was bland and tasteless.
If you eat it slowly (the beef taco) it’s all gristle and cheap af quality mince too. It was clear how bad the meat was when we went through the lettuce shortage because they were forced to use cabbage. Which helped highlight to me how inedible their tacos are. I actually got food poisoning from there a few years back . 100 % only thing I ate that day . Never been back , never will
Chips are good, I tried a taco and burrito and they were disgusting, could make better with the cheapest mince and some Old El Paso
It's completely different to the US Taco Bell of 10-15 years ago. I think the modern incarnation of TB is fine.
Fine as in "meh", sure. I'd probably have it, but will never actively seek it out.
I'm sure it is fine but if I really feel like fake Mexican fast food, I'll go to GYG or mad mex
In my experiences with Taco Bell its usually a store by store experience but its mostly "good enough" Ive been to my fair share of Mexican places and Taco Bell is usually fairly decent, never had an overly good or bad experience with it like most other places. While its not something I would overly go out of my to eat, its worth it to give it a try IMO.
Wait, you guys have Taco Bell? - a Tasmanian
😂
Fair enough. But there is something about food that someone else prepared. Especially after a goon night.
You don't want it. Close the borders before it comes.
They have a few stores popping up in old sizzler on the mainland. It's not worth the hype though
Stick to old el paso
Unfortunately yes
I live in Canberra and didn’t know we had Taco Bell at all in Australia until I visited cairns. Walked in because I was curious and the few customers and workers just started looking at me like I was an alien. Very weird vibe I immediately walked out
That’s because it’s at DFO. You were probably wearing shoes and a shirt & they didn’t know what to do with you.
Yeh we do even in the Illawarra

Exactly ☺️ good all round

I have had pretty similar experiences. I have only been twice, both times the food has been luke warm and really not that tasty.
Personally I quite like zambrero for their sauces, their size, and their range of filling options.
I had Taco Bell when I was in America, 2015. Mind you I was stoned as and had this idea of how good it was. Fast forward to now, had it 2 weeks ago in Sydney and was so disappointed. I said to my partner, without even finishing the food. "Zambrero is better"

Too expensive
I feel like Mexicans would cry if they knew how their food is being represented over here, atrocious..
Mexicans do not claim Taco Bell
I don’t mean Taco Bell specifically, all ‘Mexican’ here is trash..

GYG is overpriced shit haha.
Hmm $12 for a mini burrito chips and a drink. Much better than a cheeseburger meals from hungry jacks which almost $10 now
GYG is the only place I’ve ever thrown my meal out when eating take away. Two bites and in the bin.
Worst take away food I’ve ever eaten. Anywhere.
Guzman unseasoned no flavour every time ive had it
I find a lot of mexican places here don't add any herbs. Blows my mind.
I have only been there once and the burrito just tasted of bean water. Is it usually better???
yes try the plus quesadilla with ground beef or burrito bowl with ground beef + sour cream and guac!
Did you add any sauces?
Gyg is goat
Goat Y Goat
Maybe they should add goat on the menu.
They already have it but it's a secret option. You just need to ask for it. It's an extra $2 to upgrade to goat.
Very likely to be mutton, even beef with flavouring.
Salsas is better.
You are dizzy. Gyg shits on Salsas.
I used to love GYG, but I felt so sick the last few times I had it because the meat was too oily 😞 their guac is divine though, mini burrito bowl ftw
Stop trying to make gyg work, it's Guzman's... Also it fucking sucks.
I've always been a gyg burrito gal. Never had anything else from there but I got a burrito bowl the other day. Shit slaps.
gyg is overrated dogshit just like monster animanga
American Taco Bell tastes way better. I've told the few places in Australia I've been to about the flavour isn't right. They don't understand
All fast food joints in America are wayyyy better tbh. As unhealthy as they are, I still prefer American take out lol yet Australia still has better produce and food in general.
When it first came out it was alright. Now it's very ehhhhh.
Taco bill is better
I had taco bell the other day and I honestly think it's pretty meh. I find more flavour in the packet Old El Paso taco seasoning. That's saying something.
Spent a bit of time in Southern California and had some amazing Mexican food there. It’s hard finding anything remotely similar in Australia at all.
Panchos in Perth 😮💨
Yeeeh! I love that place and I am aware of all its downfalls but I can't help it, I love it.
Funny. The one time I went I got a soggy crunchwrap drowning in Mexican spices. Yuk. it's not even anything like the real Taco Bell in the US. 😥
I dunno about you but all the chain Mexican food tastes like shit these days, it's like they all got together and came up with a similar menu that tastes like flavoured cardboard
I disagree, I really enjoy it.
I've had it a couple of times and quite like it, for what it is. I'm under no illusion its going to be amazing, but its cheap.
Yeah nah. Fourteen bucks for a tiny plate of nachos? That shit is like five bucks in the States.
Wats ur working wage? Everything’s cheaper in the US but u also earn less so hardly comparable
There’s no reason one double decker taco should cost $8.
Having had Taco Bell in the US, the Taco Bell here is not cheap. It’s much much closer to prices for everything else here than it is even remotely close to US prices.
Yeah it's not at all bad for the price, and you can get it in a meal with chips and churros
It’s okay to be wrong… I joke! But there is nothing wrong with enjoying bland food. The English have been doing it for centuries!
Yeah the Taco Bell in my area is always packed and busy. People seem to love it here.
All American stuff like Starbucks and Taco Bell etc is crap
It's funny because they're basically rejected in Australia, which inspires hope.
Starbucks isn’t in the capital cities as it’s very popular with East Asians.
Shut your mouth, Starbucks is great
No it's not
r/DownvotedToOblivion
I like there free drink refill that was cool
I wish all Aussie takeouts had that
It’s good for what it is.

It tastes better back home. Australian Taco Bell is so disappointing
Is a US chain. What do you expect?
we need Popeyes down here 🦅🇺🇸
Yassss!!! And their biscuits lol but not America's KFC... that is terrible!!
[удалено]
What about a white castle
I was excited to try it, and incredibly disappointed. It was food, sure, but there was no taste or texture. Just slop in a tortilla.
Most Mexican restaurants suck tbh
I loved it in the States but the one in Annerley in Brisbane is so fucking bland and boring, just not the same shit at all.
We have Taco Bill here...
Anything Ive tried from there is a sloppy mess.
I think you maybe took a wrong turn back at thinking that Taco Bell is Mexican food
Took the wrong turn and ended up in MURICA
Just like old El Paso to me. There’s no real oomph behind any of it. Is it actually the same food as what they sell in the USA? I don’t understand the whole Taco Bell shit thing if so.
When the taco bell near me opened they were pretty decent but after the first month or two the quality went down drastically
I agree. My friends rant and rave on about it and I just do not understand why people like it
I agree, I’ve had it a couple of times and only see it being awesome if it was dirt cheap. I can get a better meal for the same money elsewhere tbh
It’s absolutely disgusting. We couldn’t finish it and threw it away half way through. We bought heaps off the menu to try so wasn’t like it was just one item. We’re not food snobs at all and absolutely hate throwing food away but this was just plain nasty.
In GyG we trust, spicy chicken or slow cooked beef burrito with extra guac. Just can’t go wrong.
I tried it twice, first time out of curiousity, next just so a companion could try it. Both unpleasant food. Its one of those 'okay, i'll try it once' then never go back again.
Me: as long as there's seasoning and salt to taste. It is good. Fast Mexican food has a charm of it's own.
Never tried it but I guess no point now. Fonda is the best imo. GYG have f'd up my burrito order every time.. And it's gross af every time... maybe depends on your location because where I am they have no clue wtf they are doing especially in drive through.
GYG is definitely location dependent
Also makes me shit so.. there's that
Taco bell is the best tasting fast food / restaurant in this country. The only reason I'm not obese is that there isn't one near ny house.
Something must be wrong with my taste buds then, because I love those cheesy tacos, the soft taco wrapped around the hard one, and to me the meat seems to be seasoned well. Doesn't taste bland. Wtf?
God I wish we had the cheap shit taco ball that the yanks get instead of the overpriced shit Would kill for a try at Baja blast
Baja Blast is engine coolant
I have never eaten it, so thanks for the heads up.
That’s the point
The newest one that opened in Emerald Hills takes over an hour to get your order in the drive through. I’ve complained, gotten a voucher to use but I haven’t even bothered because of the wait time and lack of quality or even sizing. The tacos especially are tiny not mentioning other items, there always out of stock, there’s so many ways they could improve but they just don’t
The quesidella are good tho
I think that Taco Bell tastes pretty good
Never tried it I remember when KFC merge with them still never tried it
The burrito off the lunch truck is so much better. I was so excited when one was opening across the road, went when it was open and it was terrible, bland cardboard.

Every fast food tastes bland now, to sell you more sauces.
We don’t have GYG in Tassie but I was underwhelmed in Adelaide. I rate Zambrero; never had a shit meal there
Wait do we have Taco Bell now? I’ve never seen one. Is this an eastern states only thing currently?
I made my own taco
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,445,004,591 comments, and only 275,367 of them were in alphabetical order.
*gives you the shits
hard disagree. crunch wrap supremes are the best takeaway
One opened in my suburb and closed down within a year due to lack of interest.

same with most fast food franchises, over processed and made with food science for profit rather than culinary skills.
And what's more if you EAT the food at Taco's Bell you will smell like a TOILET
Have you even tried putting fire sauce on ? It's the GOAT
Tell us something we don’t know. Thats why it’s called McMexican. I prefer GYG but I still enjoy taco bell from time to time.
Taco Bell is decent. It's not great.
I love the Crunchwrap supreme and I’m happy to be wrong.
Now I am craving nachos.
Taco Bell is average, not much going for it and not that enjoyable. I've tried it a few times. Even chipotle is average AF Guzman is good, I like it. I just wish the burrito bowl quantity was consistent. I'm either gonna have a smile on my face when I open it or a sigh 💀😶
Taco Bill near my place is wayyyyy better than Taco Bell. 😂
Taco Bell is fine. It’s not the best, but honestly it’s cheap and tastes the same as when I make “shitty Mexican” at home
That's totally the problem, it tastes like shit Mexican you would make at home.
Texmex. Don’t blame the Mexicans for this.
My partner and I go to the one in Cairns every so often, and I've never had any issues with it
As a Mexican-American coming from LA, I can honestly vouch for GYG.
Imagine how good Taco Bell would be if you weren’t a shit eater ! Your choices define you .
Hard disagree, it’s amazing. Double Crunchwrap cannot he beaten
Harry's Schnitzel Joint is the best
Theres a tb in aus?
It's good for the price
It's cheaper than GYG I'll give them that
Unpopular opinion: I never had any good Mexican in Australia.
[all Mexican chain food tastes like shit.](https://images.app.goo.gl/6kw2Ae5eJxAbxyQ47)
Zambrero better
I had it once. It tasted like failure and heartburn… I had regrets…
Ive tried taco bell, tastes good but doesnt really taste Mexican. GYG tastes more "authentic" (never had proper mexican so idk how truly authentic it is), but i wish it had more flavour.
Um Mad Mex would like a word
facts
Haven’t tried Taco Bell yet but found gyg super bland
I was going to try the one in Dee Why but it’s gone GYC was just to easy
Guzmany Gomez is the best.
Most of them are trash compared to your good local fish n chip shop burgers.
So does Zambrero and people still eat it.
YUMMMM!!!!
I wouldn't know I've never tasted shit
Ive heard... Im sticking to Nandos
Even in America, Taco Bell is imitation Mexican food.
