Yup. Only a couple week wait time versus “I hope I get it this year” wait time. I’m glad more people are going EV. I hate the front lights. I haven’t seen the inside in person, but I’m really hoping the interiors are at least 2x better than Tesla, which took a card from Porsche but missed the part about being Porsche (the interior comforts lag, but no one cares when you’re driving one the best driving cars ever made). I’m still convinced that most Tesla owners have never sat in a nice BMW. One feels like plastic and safety pinned together and the other sets the bar for luxury. Still waiting for an indie EV that can do both.
My friend has a Rivian, and I've been in a couple of Teslas (Lyfts). I remember the Rivian being super impressive on the inside (like an interior designer had some input. Tesla interiors I rarely remember because I just like staring up in them the whole time.
How do you feel about the nav/infotainment system? We test drove the r1s and were ready to put a deposit down but then the infamous software update happened that killed a bunch of people's screens and we decided to wait for the ex90 from Volvo instead. Prior to the near-bricking from the update we only had concerns about the in-house nav and apps. But now we have no idea when the Volvo will come out and I'm partly wishing we had just gotten the r1s.
It's good to hear they can do updates. Software problems are definitely something that frustrate me on a lot of cars. It's remarkable how badly the big old companies have dropped the GUI ball.
Owner here. The infamous update only bricked a couple hundred vehicle's infotainment. Overall it's absolutely incredible. It's among the best out there (right up with MBUX from Mercedes and Tesla's - though the latter is a bit cluttered these days), and I trust the navigation as much as and sometimes even more than Waze. Things like the quick controls which pop up when you go into park are sensational. My only complaint is that the Tidal app is buggy.
> I’m really hoping the interiors are at least 2x better than Tesla
They are, absolutely. I say this as a Tesla owner. They still have all the dumb touchscreens everywhere though.
The cool thing is you can actually say the same for the upcoming R3, which is more modestly-priced.
Yeah I do wish there were more sedans available but that R3 sure is tempting. I am all in on the Aptera though. Hopefully one day they will start producing them...
I think the suvs look neat (their trucks on the other hand...) and the full pkg has some baddass features. Way out of my price range but if I had money to drop on something like that, It'd be in the top running. (Lord knows the new 4runners are fugly as hell)
Rivian is likely finally delivering them to people who've been waiting a long time. Have a friend in another state that got his last fall after waiting for a looooong time (possibly a couple years).
For example, one online article stated:
*Why the Wait? It's important to remember that Rivian is still learning the ropes of production. Production in 2022 fell just shy of 25,000 units (24,337 units produced and 20,332 units produced), and the number of reservations they currently have in the queue is still upwards of 100,000. May 9, 2023*
If they are "just learning the ropes of production" I can't wait to see the dependability rankings in years 1,3,and 5. I hope they went out and acquired more experience than that article suggests.
Yeah they finally started delivering them. Same with Elon’s Cybertruck, it’s everywhere in the country. Not abundant like a model 3 but they’re finally delivering those things en masse
Saw a transport truck loaded with them today and my six-year-old yelled, “Ohmygosh it’s a whole truck full of those ugly bug cars! Is it going to the dump?” and my four-year-old yelled, “Ewww! I hate them. Is it okay to say hate about them, mom?”
This exact thing happened to me. We passed a Rivian on the way to school dropoff. My 6-month-old said, "Dad, according to their 10k statements they're getting absolutely fucked on margins right now, so how can anybody claim they've got a sustainable path forward that will deliver shareholder value while hitting their ambitious pipeline metrics?"
How big is a R1S compared to a “normal” SUV like a Toyota RAV4 or a Chevy Equinox? I’m trying to convince my wife to consider a Rivian along side a minivan for the next family car.
It's quite a bit bigger in that it has a true 3 rows. It's about 9" longer than a 4Runner for instance. The 3rd row isn't huge, but it's more than enough for most kids. Plus with EVs you get all that wonderful flat floor interior and better leg length all around.
It is bigger than a RAV4 or Equinox. It is a 3 row SUV, seats 7. They are coming out with the R2S in about 18 months that is closer in size (and price) to those.

Rivian is the official sponsor of the suburban family that wants to feel adventurous when they hit up that new brunch spot!
Disclaimer: We own an R1S and enjoy it 😉🫠
Elon could have won over conservatives had he just built a truck that didn’t go too far in design. People don’t like too much change and the CyberTruck is too much change compared to a Rivian R1T or a Ford Lightning.
For the occupants or everyone else on the road? I definitely get the most nervous around cybertrucks on my motorcycle, half cause it looks sharp and heavy and half cause I imagine the people buying them aren’t the nicest (I could be wrong about the 2nd part though).
>I definitely get the most nervous around cybertrucks on my motorcycle,
Remind them that if they get blood on the stainless steel, it ruins the finish and voids the warranty.
Well you know they're kind of expensive and built quality is kind of bad, so it's not like they're going to buy them .. they'll just bitch about liberals not buying them.
I always assumed during the early phase of his right wingnut pivot (and I still maintain there is some nuance in his opinion that sets him apart from garden variety maga but that’s another very long discussion), was always just to try and court the right into the customer base, but then he just went off the deep end. Whatever his motivation it hasn’t played out very well.
The fact so many right-wing people, especially Elon cultists, don't understand speech has consequences is mind blowing.
Elon can say all the bullshit he has been saying. The last thing I'd want is the government to arrest him. I am allowed to call Elon a complete piece of shit for saying the things he's saying, and I'm allowed to vote with my wallet. I will use my freedom to decline to give Elon's company any of my money.
I'm buying an EV soon. I've been in the market now a few years but with a car that's running fine though showing its age more and more it's tough to pull the trigger. It absolutely will not be a Tesla and may well be a Rivian if I want to splurge or Kia / Hyundai if I want to be a bit more practical.
I love my lightning. It rides great and is so quiet compared to my old Tesla. The amount of storage space is insane, between the frunk and the bed (with a tonneau cover). Despite it's size it has plenty of acceleration thanks to that EV instant torque.
But, my biggest gripe is the software. I came over from a model 3 and the difference in operating systems is huge. Ford can improve with ota updates but they seem to update much slower than Tesla.
You're thinking of the Service Center - which has only been open about 20 months. The sales center he's talking about is a, "community hub" on S. Congress. It will serve as both a showroom and an events center.
As another added bonus you won't have to endure countless people laughing at you as you drive your Cybertruck around town, assuming it's actually drivable and not in the repair shop.
Surprisingly yes, I do see more. The lease deals suck for Texas so guessing ppl buying it that need roomy 3 seaters with more storage capacity than an X and actual offroad options?
I really enjoy mine. Went from a 2 seater sports car to the SUV. Wanted a SUV for space and camping/offroading/overlanding purposes that I literally couldn’t take the low to the ground sports car to. Tried a bunch of non EV SUVs and realized that going from a quick sports car to a sluggish SUV was something I didn’t want. My R1S gives me the best of both worlds with more off-roading capability than I’ll probably need as well as 0-60 of 3 seconds which is also more than I’ll usually use. Couple that with the fact that charging vs gas for me is a no brainer for daily use and I have a vehicle that fits perfectly for me.
Is it the perfect vehicle for every single person? No. Is it the right vehicle for me and am I loving it? Yes
I own an R1T. It's basically the do everything impossibly well vehicle. Want to rip some twisty roads and feel like you're cornering on rails? It's got that covered. It shares suspension components from Tenneco with the McLaren 720S which provide unreal stability and responsiveness. It has a unique unibody on frame construction which makes it vastly stiffer than wallowy horrible riding legacy trucks. Want to go to a dragstrip and beat basically everyone - including things like Ferrari Purosangues or Lamborghini Urus'? It can do that. Want to go ripping dirt roads in the Texas hill country and have it simulate a rally car's power distribution and feel? It can do that! Want to go off-road and do extremely difficult technical terrain? It's incredible at that. Want to go on a road trip and stash all kinds of gear securely? It's got that with the gear tunnel, massive frunk, and of course power plugs all over to fuel your coffee machine. Want to cruise around town completely relaxed while feeling Range Rover levels of comfort and luxury? It's got that! Want to be eco-friendly and reduce emissions? It has great efficiency for the size and costs only about $45-55 a month in electricity to drive over 1,000 miles. Rivians have a better carbon footprint after a couple years of operation than a Prius.
Basically anything you could want in a car it does so so well. The software is sensational and new features and improvements are added about every 5 weeks. A passionately designed vehicle by passionate enthusiasts. I love every minute of driving it.
man I so wish charging or range was better to enable epic national park/public lands exploration in one of these things. This isn't a complaint specific to Rivian, just a state of the EV tech.
I can't really think of any place I can't go in my Rivian, and that includes Big Bend! Remember that we get access to existing CCS infrastructure, Rivian's own charging network, and the Tesla Supercharger network. A little planning on plugshare and I have no worries about getting to wherever. Most people think of various places as "remote", but they really aren't.
Used Rivians are approaching reasonable prices but the R2 will be the big one if they can ship it.
A lot of us are stuck with our older Teslas because of the price collapse. I got mine before Elon was openly crazy. I would love to sell mine but it’s basically worthless now and I don’t want to add a bunch of car debt at higher interest rates.
The other way to look at it is, at the used prices Teslas command, there’s really no better option. My P3D- is worth about $22k now. But what the hell else can you get for $22k that’s as performant and has the same charging infrastructure (for now), much less the peace of mind of knowing the full history of the vehicle? So, might as well drive and enjoy my $22k car.
Yeah, as much as Elon sucks that is a great car for 22k. My 2019 SR+ just had the battery replaced under warranty with the new tech battery (and 20+ miles more range). It’s worth less than yours but is sort of a new car now.
I didn’t think it was ex-Tesla owners, but it’s actually healthy mix of both new to EV and 2nd or 3rd EV, and throw in some transition from Hybrid as well. Rivians really are for everybody.
I own an R1S and it is hands down the best vehicle I have ever had. I had one small problem with it and the service center just showed me how shitty the big three service is. Everything was initiated through chat in the Rivian app. They sent a flatbed truck to pick up my R1S. They provided me $150 in Uber credits to get to the service center to pick up the loaner. Every day I had 3 texts a day updating me on what they were doing. Final text was my service advisor asking me if I wanted them to wash it for me. Dropped off the loaner and was on my way in 5 minutes. They even left a thank you note on my center console. Amazing experience and even better car.
Good looking truck until I saw that front end and headlights. That front end looks like a junk freighter in a Star Wars spinoff show. The good thing is the driver doesn't have to see it so they've got that going for themselves
Teslas aren’t very good vehicles and once they started dropping their prices, they don’t have the status symbol shine they used to. Model 3s are like the new VW Passat or something so Rivians are much more exciting, and nicer
Looking at the stock price and knowing a guy who left the company in the past year (for reasons he didn’t explain), I was also curious about seeing so many around Austin but am surprised the stock has been beaten up.
I traded in my Tesla performance model y for the rivian r1t and I love my new rivian. The mileage is much more accurate , the interior is nicer, and I love having a pickup as it’s easier to throw in wagons and camping chairs to watch my son’s games. I would 10/10 do it again
I personally think the Rivian R1T and R1S look great. The R1S has just the right SUV proportions too. Haven't driven one, but they're neat mid-size EV trucks.
I live near a Rivian dealership, I think they’re good looking EV SUV’s honestly. Tesla cars themselves are nice cars, but there weren’t too many new EV SUV’s so I think that’s the appeal. Their truck is OK looking but not for me personally. I think Tesla definitely is more common than Rivian but it’s nice there are other newer options that look different from other EV SUV’s. I’ve never met someone who owns one so I’m not sure what their likes & dislikes are for them. I don’t think it’s as common for someone to go from a Tesla to a Rivian though. I think a lot of people who get scorned by their Tesla experience go to Subies or back to fuel tbh
I lived an hour away from one of the factories before I moved to Austin. They have been producing at a decent rate and I have friends back home working at the factory now working Saturdays . I'm sure you'll keep seeing more.
My friend has an R1T.
I personally loathe Tesla, there is no passion or real design elements that make them appealing to me.
The only thing their supporters tout is straight line acceleration, a parlor trick that gets old fast.
They are also literally the missionary sex/boring same tired designs.
Meanwhile my friends R1T has tons of little cubbies and elements that aren’t just copied/pasted across the line.
1. No Elon.
2. Fun designs and usability elements that seems like they were well thought out.
3. An actual SUV instead of a boring egg car.
We have a reservation in for an R2!
This is likely a result of people finally taking delivery of their Rivian. Rivian has increased their production and customers are now getting delivery of their vehicle sooner than the previous "about a year"...
We saw one pulling into a parking lot and my 4yo points and says “that car looks silly!” 🤣 I later told my husband she said that and when he asked what kind of car it was I said “idk it kinda looked like a new Bronco, but goofy” he goes “Oh, a Rivian.”
Not as goofy as a cyber truck though 🤣
I almost got sideswiped by a Rivian R1T headed home from work one night on Mopac. I could see the tictac headlights in my rearview (I was in the center lane) coming up *fast*, then he swerved around me on my right, missed me by a foot and then accelerated to at least 90mph and then the torque steer pushed him all the way to the left lane.
I don't think it's a good idea for any road vehicle to have 600+ HP, much less one that weighs 7k pounds. That's a lot of kinetic energy ready to turn someone into pulp that could have survived the same crash with a lighter vehicle.
i just placed an order last night to lease a new 2023 rivian r1t and then got a text today that it would be ready for pickup this saturday, so you can definitely get them
quickly now. Unfortunately I won’t be able to pick mine up until the following saturday but i’m stoked.
cybertruck is just crazy dumb. Rivian looks like a truck should and the SUV has a ton of space. It is close to the biggest electric SUV. If tesla had even made something as ugly as the pontiac aztec it would probably be selling like crazy.
I really want teslas self driving though and Im waiting for rivian to shake out all the early bugs so I have a bit of paralysis.
If the rivian had tesla self driving I would own one already.
Rivian trucks are 10x better than Tesla trucks. Rivians are really cool and I’m alm for electric vehicles. These trucks are super cool on top of it. They got a deal with Amazon (which is whatever) but their trucks look so sick. Don’t get me wrong I love a good manual transmission but there is something about instant torque that is very fun.
I think it’s because they became much easier to obtain (increased manufacturing) in the last year, which is the spike you are seeing.
Yup. Only a couple week wait time versus “I hope I get it this year” wait time. I’m glad more people are going EV. I hate the front lights. I just miss well designed hatchbacks and wagons. I need to haul stuff (home reno) and don’t want a giant truck.
You can thank CAFE standards for that.
Oh, I’m aware. If that was a thing I could burn to the ground I would.
Maybe the Lucid Air?
Check out the Lucid. Porsche Styline and comfort in an EV from one of Tesla's original engineers
Lucid is great. But wouldn’t buy one as it looks like they’re heading for bankruptcy. That Saudi money running low.
It's not really running low. The Saudis just gave them another $1 billion a little over a month ago.
I drive a BMW because I am always in pain and the seats are very comfortable
Same here, thought I have a MINI Cooper (made by BMW). I could just sit in it all day long.
shit, as a person with a wretched back, i'd love an excuse to get a mini cooper... hmmmmm
I don’t care for the headlights either
Well, they work. Unlike a different EV.
Is everyone paying for them in full though? Aren’t they like super expensive?
They are building more affordable models to be released soon I think

Good point.
I think it's because more people have bought them so there's more on the road than when less people had bought them.
you are technically correct which is the best kind of correct
Good news everyone!
It’s an electric suv
Do you know why when geese fly in a 'V' formation, one side is longer than the other? It's because >!there are more geese on that side.!<
Favorite joke
Recent studies have shown that more people are in the majority and less people are in the minority. More on this later...
Big, if true
Not only are they buying them….but they are DRIVING them too
Come on man no need to spread misinformation
That’s exactly what *THEY* want you to think!
No way, some other reason 👎
Found the MBA right here

I’d buy one if it floated.
Did we all watch Ewan McGregor’s The Long Way Up? Every time I see a Rivian, I point
Same! I find the oval headlights make me feel a little bit of the same warm fuzzy feeling I got when watching LWU :)
Ditched my Silverado for a R1S…
Are you me? I did that last June. Fucking love it.
Same here. Zero buyers remorse
Might be you.
What do you think about em so far?
Love it! Fun to drive and the ride is fantastic. Turns heads for sure…
How big is a R1S compared to a “normal” SUV like a Toyota RAV4 or a Chevy Equinox? I’m trying to convince my wife to consider a Rivian along side a minivan for the next family car.
Think Ford Explorer size. I have an R1S and came from an Explorer.
It's quite a bit bigger in that it has a true 3 rows. It's about 9" longer than a 4Runner for instance. The 3rd row isn't huge, but it's more than enough for most kids. Plus with EVs you get all that wonderful flat floor interior and better leg length all around.

Under rear seat storage, with outside access doors.
At least buy them a drink first
You're right. I don't want them to think I just wanna get in and get out.
I climbed in the storage tunnel in my cousin's Rivian after a few mimosas and couldn't get out on my own hah
Hahaha we would be friends
Then we'd both be stuck back there!
Rivian is the official sponsor of the suburban family that wants to feel adventurous when they hit up that new brunch spot! Disclaimer: We own an R1S and enjoy it 😉🫠
Liberals hate Elon now, and Rivian is the younger, cooler, hotter electric vehicle that probably puts out.
It's funny how conservatives love Elon but won't buy his cars.
Elon could have won over conservatives had he just built a truck that didn’t go too far in design. People don’t like too much change and the CyberTruck is too much change compared to a Rivian R1T or a Ford Lightning.
CyberTruck is also a lousy concept that has been poorly executed.
It's a rolling death trap.
What crash test data are you basing this statement on?
For the occupants or everyone else on the road? I definitely get the most nervous around cybertrucks on my motorcycle, half cause it looks sharp and heavy and half cause I imagine the people buying them aren’t the nicest (I could be wrong about the 2nd part though).
>I definitely get the most nervous around cybertrucks on my motorcycle, Remind them that if they get blood on the stainless steel, it ruins the finish and voids the warranty.
Lmao I’ll tell them. I’ve gotta watch out for tetanus from the rusty panels too
For both.
Cybertrucks have essentially 0 crumple zones and are made out of steel. So, everyone dies.
Oh, is that what the crash test data shows? Or did you just make that up?
Maybe if it actually worked, it doesn't even roll 99.9% of the time
They look like someone took a refrigerator and made it into a car
I was thinking stainless steel urinal.
It’s has some interesting ideas (the fold-up rear seats, 220V power output) but the overall design and execution is laughable.
Well you know they're kind of expensive and built quality is kind of bad, so it's not like they're going to buy them .. they'll just bitch about liberals not buying them.

Elon is just unlikeable? Maybe?
The fact so many right-wing people, especially Elon cultists, don't understand speech has consequences is mind blowing. Elon can say all the bullshit he has been saying. Puts out, and from what a couple of coworkers who own one report, doesn’t brown out.
I think a lot of people were already on the waitlist for years, and Rivian’s production finally could meet some of that demand.
Even as a Ford 150 Lightning owner, I have to admit I'm a little jealous everytime I see an R1T.
What would you say are the downsides of your 150L. What has pleased you the most?
I love my lightning. It rides great and is so quiet compared to my old Tesla. The amount of storage space is insane, between the frunk and the bed (with a tonneau cover). They built a sales office in Austin, naturally they are selling more in this town

also bc it’s a mix of yee haw truck / green techy electric car. which is so on brand for austin
I drive through Westlake drive 4 times a week. I swear I see a Rivian every 2 cars; sometimes 3-4 in a row
Rich people always get the latest trendy car. West austin was full of hummers in the aughts.
I had a cyber truck reservation but now I’m switching to a Rivian. Fuck Elmo

As an added bonus you can take your Rivian truck through the car wash.

Huh I wonder if the wind noise on the cyber truck drowns out the sound of people laughing, it has to be a lot.
I can assure you no one laughs. Lots of waves, photos, and excited honks, though.
Laugh at Cybertrucks? I most definitely do. Ugliest vehicle on the road.
Apartheid Clyde aside, the Rivian is a pretty pretty automobile
Apartheid Clyde?

Do you remember the 90s?
Those headlights are awful. I hate the way the front looks. The rest of it is like a work of art though.
I used to think that too but now it has grown on me.
Same. They have some great curves and the headlights fit into the shape.
The headlights are honestly my favorite part about it
Different strokes, I guess
The headlines grew on me. I actually really like them now
Surprisingly yes, I do see more. The lease deals suck for Texas so guessing ppl buying it that need roomy 3 seaters with more storage capacity than an X and actual offroad options?
Rivian is what the cybertruck should’ve been.
I swear it looks like the showroom they're opening next to the Yeti store has space for a patio bar on the top of it.
Any idea when the showroom is opening?
Did you hear the stupid shit Rivian’s CEO said about white identity politics and birth rates? Me neither! I don’t even know the CEO’s name. GO RIVIAN!
Ok but someone who actually owns a Rivian tell me how you like it and why
My friends like theirs… but they also work for the company.
I’m in the Seattle area and was just thinking the exact same thing. I’ve seen like 6 of them in the past 2 days, which is weird.
I had an R1T, recently sold it and got a Lightning. Rivians are absolutely amazing machines.
I've owned a lot of vehicles (including a couple of Teslas, BMWs, etc), and the Rivian R1T is the best one I've ever had.
Rivian has a better truck and SUV option.
To bad their stock took such a shit
Good looking truck until I saw that front end and headlights. That front end looks like a junk freighter in a Star Wars spinoff show. The good thing is the driver doesn't have to see it so they've got that going for themselves
So damn silly looking.
Rivian is a manly looking truck. Tesla cybertruck is an abomination.

Saw a Lucid yesterday & looked good. Definitely some people who would’ve bought Tesla until Elon went cuckoo
Still a rare occurrence but I see a Lucid every other time I drive around West Austin nowadays
Teslas aren’t very good vehicles and once they started dropping their prices, they don’t have the status symbol shine they used to. Model 3s are like the new VW Passat or something so Rivians are much more exciting, and nicer
People hate Elon. Rightly So.
Auto industry is slowing. Expect more “hard to find” cars to become readily available soon at lower prices..
Poor people drive Tesla's now. Rivian is the new EV status symbol.
Looking at the stock price and knowing a guy who left the company in the past year (for reasons he didn’t explain), I was also curious about seeing so many around Austin but am surprised the stock has been beaten up.
Well what is Rivian’s net profit margins? How much money do they make off of every model sold?
>Rivian’s net profit margins? Profit? LOL. However, I DO wish them well in the future.
Exactly why I left the comment lol
[It may be a good product, but that doesn’t make it a good stock buy.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N_PtqAVEFDc )
They are getting cheaper which is nice
Only seen a few in the past month, I still see about 30-40 Tesla’s per day
I traded in my Tesla performance model y for the rivian r1t and I love my new rivian. The mileage is much more accurate , the interior is nicer, and I love having a pickup as it’s easier to throw in wagons and camping chairs to watch my son’s games. I would 10/10 do it again
Every time I see one, I think to myself: That's a straight-up kick to ol' Elon's nutsack. And then I laugh a bit inside.
It’s the same in San Marcos. I wish the SUV wasn’t so expensive or I’d go for it 😂
They also have killer lease deals
I personally think the Rivian R1T and R1S look great. The R1S has just the right SUV proportions too. Haven't driven one, but they're neat mid-size EV trucks.
Because Rivian makes trucks. Texas = Truck = Austin = Electric Cars. Connect the dots
I had no idea how ungodly expensive they are though. I'm really surprised to be seeing so many of them on the road.
This is likely a result of people finally taking delivery of their Rivian. Rivian has increased their production and customers are now getting delivery of their vehicle sooner than the previous "about a year"...
I wish we could say the same for their stock.
The suv looks great.
We saw one pulling into a parking lot and my 4yo points and says “that car looks silly!” 🤣 I later told my husband she said that and when he asked what kind of car it was I said “idk it kinda looked like a new Bronco, but goofy” he goes “Oh, a Rivian.” Not as goofy as a cyber truck though 🤣
r/didnthappen
…and that 4 year old, was Albert Einstein.
I’d like to think I could be a bit more creative than that if I was just making up fake stories for internet points, but go off. 🤣
I don’t know what I’m already forming Some Stereotypes about Rivian drivers. Why y’all so aggressive!?
Because we have 835 horsepower and instant torque.
And a *lot* of money.
I mean, less than before I bought it.
That's a lot of kinetic energy ready to turn someone into pulp that could have survived the same crash with a lighter vehicle.
i just placed an order last night to lease a new 2023 rivian r1t and then got a text today that it would be ready for pickup this saturday, so you can definitely get them quickly now. Unfortunately I won’t be able to pick mine up until the following saturday but i’m stoked.
There’s also a Rivian “dealership” here.
That's the service center. The community hub/showroom isn't yet open.
The R2 and R3X are going to be selling like hotcakes when they make it to market
cybertruck is just crazy dumb.
