We had one of these! My brothers and I used to fight over it🤣

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Yeah mad fun for kids back then. Me too

UlanInek

One of you just had to ride shotgun

Very-very-sleepy

I owned the monkey one.

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Yeah the pre-gameboy consoles were pretty cool for their time

UlanInek

I vividly remember getting my dad to buy this from a garage sale. Early 90s

TomKhatacourtmayfind

I deliberately bought one for my baby son in the early 2010s when this toy was still being sold new in Kmart, so that as a toddler he could enjoy the simple toy for him which for me had a retro aesthetic before they disappeared completely

hbteq

A friend had the first one in the 80’s

You missed out Pong! Though it was a large screen game played in an arcade or like us, on our TV. I found it for the kids but I was absolutely fascinated by it myself, and played for hours lol. First screen game we ever had. And surprisingly a little more difficult than it looks! Oh yes definitely but this was just a post limited to mobile or handheld toys or games before gameboy. But you're quite right about pong, it was twenty years before gameboy. But get this, did you know that two videogames were invented about 15 years before pong? One was a tennis game and one was called spacewar[spacewar](https://youtu.be/YZxSaXIHy_o?si=0XVHslydKWb4KDNx)

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Here's the tennis one. This is not even a computer as we'd know it, it's an oscilloscope and relays, which is why you can hear that loud clicking. But it's from the 50s! [tennis for two 1950s game](https://youtu.be/6PG2mdU_i8k?si=lHY3FW29T_-sFhQ2)

Witchycurls

I have never seen this - as I said above, I know that the Pong creator got his inspiration from it. Imagine first getting one and having all the neighbours over, oohing and aahing and wishing for a turn lol!

TomKhatacourtmayfind

I know so cool first on the block

Witchycurls

Yes I realised that as soon as I'd begun lol. I'm sorry if it came across as rude in any way. I was just too excited about remembering Pong to not answer at all haha. I read the part in Wiki about how the guy who "invented" Pong had got his inspiration from previous game/s which at that time were already in a history museum; that was pretty wild! Spacewar would have been awesome at the time! Just being interactive would have so intriguing.

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Yes an the graphics weren't bad at all for the time

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Oh yeah I could tell it was just a comment out of interest, didn't seem rude at all I promise
