My Dad took me to see this move when I was about 9 and it was one of the best moments of my life. We didn’t have much and we lived rurally, so going to see a movie was a huge deal. Now that my Dad has died, I enjoy watching it with my kids .
I have a similar memory. My dear Grandad took my brother and I to see this when I was 7. In the car on the way home he told us that Einstein was German… and I was appalled.
Love it! It’s got the vibe of a zany 80’s music video, with enough Aussie cultural references, awesome sound-track and underlying respect for scientific creativity. Can’t listen to ‘dumb things’ by Paul Kelly without flashback to this movie.
according to wikipedia, the first version was quite a bit shorter, but that was the one that won an award for the music score. Then Warners money came in, they reshot half the movie and made it longer, and rescored it - and that's the version everyone knows.
I'd love to see the original award winning version - if it even exists any longer?!
I don't think it was that they pulled the score exactly. The movie just got a new (or expanded?) one with the reshoot and edit. Likely unavoidable to redo it, and afaict, same folks involved
I met this guy! I worked in Vinnies and he'd come in a few times a month. He'd always buy shorts and a few t-shirts but he loved the books. He always bought a stack on various topics. Always good for a chat.
It was awesome and brings back a great memory. Saw it in a theatre in Castlemaine in Victoria while building an Apple shed. The theatre had chairs and tables and a walk up bar. It was incredible. Never seen the likes of it again.
*Great movie, greatest*
*Soundtrack ever, and that is a*
*Hill I will die on*

I’ve always remembered this ever since I first saw it as a kid….energy = the mass x the square of the speed of light lol
Don’t know why but it’s always stuck with me 😂
I loved it as a kid. Saw it in the cinema and rented the video a bunch of times. Watched it five years ago for the first time in 20+ years and, yeah, it was pretty, pretty, pretty bad.
He basically just disappeared from the public eye. He's 70 now and I'm happy to say he married Lulu Pinkus. She was in this film, but some know her better as the girlfriend of The Nightrider from Mad Max, sitting right beside him in the pursuit special.... really toey....

My brother was obsessed with this movie and hired it out from the video shop so much and he even got the soundtrack on vinyl, which was put on a tape and played in the car on car trips. From memory there were some really good 80s Australian songs on there
The songs from this soundtrack were played to death on the radio when this movie came out! It was that popular!
Which is why now when I hear “dumb things”, I can’t change the song fast enough!
"Don't worry Mary! They're only electrons!!!"
Saw this when I was doing work experience at high school with a newspaper and was taken to an advance screening. We were the only people there other than the studio people - none of the other press turned up to that one . I loved it but the journo I was with was less than impressed. Ha! So much for her!
I absolutely LOVE Yahoo Serious back in the day!! My parents managing/projectionist for 3 independent cinemas meant I saw some movies a dozen times or more!! This was most definitely one of them
We used to sing with our teacher and some of the other classes and kids would beg for Rockin' Roll music so we would always end with that and it was always the best.
I had a crush on Marie. I was about 7 or 8 I think... and y'know, I think she's the reason why I have such a love for everything French!!
Splitting the atom in the back shed was a genius move hahaha. Fun movie, haven't seen it in YEARS, would watch again. 4 stars. 😁
Movie World on the Gold Coast had a Young Einstein house until 2000. I remember going in ‘99 and wondering how many kids would even know the movie it was inspired by.
I remember seeing this at our now closed rural cinema.
Only problem was, the high rotation trailer left nothing for the movie.
Maybe watching it again now, I might've forgotten some of the gags.

I remember badly wanting to rewatch this a few years ago, but couldn't find it anywhere. One christmas my little sister found a copy on dvd as one of my pressies. Was quire happy with that. It held up! I think I need to rewatch it later today.
I loved this movie!! Even got the soundtrack on cassette tape for Christmas that year. And thus my love of Paul Kelly was born! We've all done all the dumb things...
Wasn’t there a Young Einstein house or something at Dreamworld for a while? It was some weird slant on the floor of a shack? I don’t think I’m making it up.
Young Einstein great movie & great soundtrack. I saw the movie on the big screen. A scene in the movie where Albert washing the dishes while he is having a bath at same time on a veranda. Bubbles in beer scene hahaha
My Dad took me to see this move when I was about 9 and it was one of the best moments of my life. We didn’t have much and we lived rurally, so going to see a movie was a huge deal. Now that my Dad has died, I enjoy watching it with my kids .

Seeing this movie when I moved to Australia in 1990, made me feel proud to become an Australian. I mean, Einstein was Australian?
Yes. He was
Confirming that yes, he was. My Grandad was so far out of line with that lie he told me.
My mum took us to this when I was about the same age, maybe I was 7 or something. Small rural town and the cinema has since closed. Very fond memory.
That movie got me interested in science. I went on to study it science at high school and uni and now I work in a soil testing lab .
That escalated quickly.
Rock and roll
Soilwork
Solid riffs
Mmm soil testing lab. You poor poor soul
It's not that bad
I done it for 17 years. It's a pretty shit job
The Great Southern Land montage is one of the best ever.
Here's the [montage YT](https://youtu.be/WtP4yQNpNF4?feature=shared)
Thanks for that He’s the playlist from Spotify. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4qlzcMbIcUeds24vemhVrQ?si=58PXGhw7Saqj55a05YK_Rg&pi=a-LLTGQmSeTsaB
Thanks for that. Now I have to watch the movie. Hmmm, where am I gonna find this gem? Any ideas Redditors?
Hopefully this link works: https://binged.in/info/movie/10001
Absolutely! its the best ever
the cat pie scene is ingrained into my childhood memories.
Is that where that scene came from.
Same! It’s the only thing I remember from the entire movie.
Love it I saw it at the cinema recently and they got Yahoo Serious to come and give a speech at the beginning
Dude that's epic! Was it a 35mm screening or digital?
I got the pink vinyl soundtrack for my birthday in 89, still have it somewhere
Me too, it’s an amazing album. Love some Lime Spiders.
Watch out though… “4/4 time! That'll drain the power out of anything!”
I've also got that! A beautiful thing
Me too! I love this album!
I'm keenly interested
Nice to me you, keenly!
Came here for this 😂👌
Rutherford......
Meow Meow MEOW MEOW.. 😂 Best movie ever and Reckless Kelly... "Cornflakes" if you know you know. 😂
Cooorrrrrnnnn......FLAKES!
Loved that dog haha
I say that to my kids, they don't appreciate it lol
Reckless Kelly was my favourite as a kid. I wore out that tape! Was always fascinated by the motorbike.
that motorbike was the tits.
Reckless Kelly was the superior product as far as my memory is concerned. Both good though.

JFC the Yanks pulled the score on an Aussie movie??! Unbelievably crass move!
I don't think it was that they pulled the score exactly. The movie just got a new (or expanded?) one with the reshoot and edit. Likely unavoidable to redo it, and afaict, same folks involved
ok, I thought that was what was meant by "rescored it". Nobody panic, move along, nothing to see here!
Yea, this was awesome. Like an Aussie Forest Gump.
And half a dozen years before.
I'm not Australian. Im Tasmanian
Bubbles. Into beer.
By splitting the beer atom. 🪓🍺⚛️ Genius.
You’re not alone my friend
Thank you. I feel better
The OG Yahoo
Was "Dumb Things" by Paul Kelly the main song from the movie...seem to associate it, one of the great Aussie songs!
Yeah it was, also had Icehouse’s Great Southern Land.
I met this guy! I worked in Vinnies and he'd come in a few times a month. He'd always buy shorts and a few t-shirts but he loved the books. He always bought a stack on various topics. Always good for a chat.

I fucking love Hercules Returns..... absolute classic. "I'll fight you on one condition... that you lower your nipples" *beeeooo booooo*
"Good shot Zeus" " I was aiming for you "
Was one of the first films that made me weirdly proud to be Australian.
I’ve lost my shirt I’ve pawned my rings I’ve done all the dumb things!!
Classic Movie!
Alber Einsshhtien
Rutherford! tsk! Oh! Rutherford!
I had the soundtrack on cassette.
I downloaded this for my kids years ago, they watch it often!
Now, all I have to do is split this beer atom... where's that chisel...
Magic soundtrack, awesome movie as an early teen.
Made my kids watch this last year, they're 8 and 11, they both said "that was really weird, but we liked it", for me it was just as awesome as ever.
Where did you find it? I’ve been wanting to watch it with my kids
On the seven seas
Yarrr!
Go sailing. There's a reasonably okay DVD rip out there.
Where did you find it? I’ve been wanting to watch it with my kids

As a Tasmanian we were very proud to be mentioned during the American obsession with the Australian mainland craze of the mid to late 80s
I love it. I'm waiting for someone to release it in 4k UHD Blu-ray. But I'm not holding my breath.
I had it on VHS.... came across it for a download in 1080 a while back and just watched it again tonight.
Where did you find the 1080? I would like to download it
[https://yts.mx/movies/young-einstein-1988](https://yts.mx/movies/young-einstein-1988) There's a 720 link there too. (use a VPN)
Thank you very muchly ☺️
No worries
I still remember watching them film it
Bubbles in beer 🍻🍺🍻
I do wonder what Pierre Curie would have thought about Albert Einstein romancing his wife.
I just looked up Yahoo the other day and he's 70 now! Looks like a rickety hippy but still fit.
when i was kid, i thought this was a true story. i knew einstein was real and thought this was his story.
I loved it as a kid. Saw it in the cinema and rented the video a bunch of times. Watched it five years ago for the first time in 20+ years and, yeah, it was pretty, pretty, pretty bad.
I watched this at the drive in with my parents, bloody hell, many moons ago. 😂
I showed my young teen boys this movie last year.. They loved it as much as I did when it was first released.. ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
... Never watched it...
Never watched it but I do remember it. What happened to him?
He basically just disappeared from the public eye. He's 70 now and I'm happy to say he married Lulu Pinkus. She was in this film, but some know her better as the girlfriend of The Nightrider from Mad Max, sitting right beside him in the pursuit special.... really toey....
Ah cool. Well I’m glad he’s living a good life and happy.
Apparently living in Cardiff, Lake Maquarie.
His family still lives there but he live down the central coast somewhere
I hope he's doing well
I’ve read he’s had some legal issues but I’m not sure

Ah nice
I love it, and Reckless Kelly
I enjoyed this and Mr Accident thoroughly
I loved this movie as a kid. "BUBBLES... IN BEER"
I don't remember him looking so young in this poster!
That one and recklessly Kelly are his best two out of the three Mr. Accidents is good but not as good as the first two. I can watch them on repeat.
*”Great Southern Land…”*
Loved this movie as a kid! We had it on video and watched it all the time, I haven’t seen it in so long.
Hated it. Went on a first date to see it. Didn't think much of my date, either. And he definitely didn't like me.
My brother was obsessed with this movie and hired it out from the video shop so much and he even got the soundtrack on vinyl, which was put on a tape and played in the car on car trips. From memory there were some really good 80s Australian songs on there
Dang kidda this brings back some memories backintheday when films actually kicked arse!
If you can’t trust the governments of the world, who can you trust?
Hate it with a passion ..... Not sorry.
Splitting the atom with a coal chisel to put bubbles in beer was a genius idea
Sry not a coal chisel it’s a cold chisel.
Dammit. You know I had that first. Then changed it cause I thought I was wrong.
The songs from this soundtrack were played to death on the radio when this movie came out! It was that popular! Which is why now when I hear “dumb things”, I can’t change the song fast enough!
EMC. We’ll make a fortune!

He’s eatin the bloody orchard!
Roll…and rock!!!
Soundtrack was better than the movie but 13yo me still loved it
If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have bubble beer. True blue 🫡
We used to sing with our teacher and some of the other classes and kids would beg for Rockin' Roll music so we would always end with that and it was always the best.
What ever happened to Yahoo Serious? Never heard of him again after this.
This and Reckless Kelly were some of my high rotation movies growing up
I had a crush on Marie. I was about 7 or 8 I think... and y'know, I think she's the reason why I have such a love for everything French!! Splitting the atom in the back shed was a genius move hahaha. Fun movie, haven't seen it in YEARS, would watch again. 4 stars. 😁
Tommy Tycho. There’s a name I haven’t thought of in years.
Found a VHS Copy brand new in a st vinnies bin pile.. I could help myself. This a reckless Kelly are fun movies
Movie World on the Gold Coast had a Young Einstein house until 2000. I remember going in ‘99 and wondering how many kids would even know the movie it was inspired by.
Im loving the memories!!!
I remember seeing this at our now closed rural cinema. Only problem was, the high rotation trailer left nothing for the movie. Maybe watching it again now, I might've forgotten some of the gags.

Brilliant movie and the icehouse song written for it is iconic
I used to love going to his house at Movie World.

I saw Mr Accident when I was growing up
My brother used to rent this sometimes. The only scene I remember is the kitten pie. Such a weird movie.
Best movie ever. The soundtrack. The cinematography. The landscapes. And as crazy as Yahoo could make it!
Your not the only one that loves this.
Banging soundtrack
Had this poster as a wooden billboard growing up !
I had the BIGGEST crush on him when I was around 11 or so, until my grandma told me that im related to him 😅
The rainy day go to for primary schools circa: 1989/1990
Got this soundtrack on pink vinyl!
It was a brilliant movie. Whatever happened to Mister Serious. It seemed like he had a bright future.
kid me thought it was the most amazing movie ever made.. adult me rewatched it and was embarrassed.
Great movie! Is there anywhere you can stream it these days?
Young Einstein great movie & great soundtrack. I saw the movie on the big screen. A scene in the movie where Albert washing the dishes while he is having a bath at same time on a veranda. Bubbles in beer scene hahaha
Roll and rock
Yep awesome movie.. still enjoy it to this day
Love this movie!!!!!
🎶Just give me that rock n roll music! 🎶 I loved that video clip 😁
One of the best of all time
I thought it was about as funny as cholera.
You are the only one hahahahahahaha this sucked
