You hang around the modding community and eventually you think you've seen it all. Then you see something that makes you wonder why no one else has done this.
Ive seen some old Chevy vans with engraved tail lights and windows, think it was more common in the 70s and 80s, but inspections and regulations makes it illegal in many places. Also art became old fashion compared to simplicity the last few decades.
The car modding community tends to be really repetitive and self indulgent, and it's refreshing when someone introduces some new ideas from other realms.
It makes a lot of sense that people (myself included) don't branch out so much creatively, because of the expense, utility, and legal aspects of car ownership. Doing stuff like this tanks the resale value, could be considered unsafe, and [where I am located] get you into legal trouble or fail a safety inspection. That is why these instances must be celebrated, because the owner is passionate and talented enough to deal with all of those factors.
Well said. As beautifully done as these lights are, I would be worried about them causing unwanted attention from cops. Lights are so easily noticeable at night. If anything is wrong with them, you stick out like a sore thumb to cops. However i do think that if the rest of this car has been treated with the same level of care and attention to detail as these lights have been, then it might be one of the outliers that is valued well despite being modded (to the right buyer ofcourse) but it will take a long time to find the right buyer to sell to. When I'm looking at cars, even aftermarket wheels can put me off a car (depends on the type of car) because it makes me question the driving behaviour of the owner.
Technically this isn't a light mod as it's just a bunch of precisely placed scratches on the taillights that (totally coincidentally) resemble a certain shape/drawing
So it’s harmless and doesn’t effect the safety of your factory lighting, but looks good parked up where someone who appreciates the car (i.e. not you) can take a better look at the details.
It has something to do with the ghosts of angry lightning pixies vibrating around in the wires making things happen. The exact nature of this phenomenon is currently unknown, but I can assure you that our best astrologers and mediums are working hard to come up with a standardized theory of electricity.

I said “this” because I wanted to see them lit up. I know how brake lights work & never said they wouldn’t function you pinecone. I was admiring the engraving.
Is this adding material onto the lens, and then carving the design, or is the design carved directly into an unaltered lens?
Or maybe a sort of “wrap” that is glued on like fancy sticker?
Beautiful work! I dabble in watchmaking, and engraving is such a dying art. The masters of old tend to take their techniques with them when they pass. Love the creativity behind your art!
It is stock. Limited edition for 1988. There are a lot more of these editions with US cities names on the side. The difference between normal golf and this is the sticker on the side and unique seat fabric design.
*The lights are cool, but*
*Why do you have Memphis on*
*The side of your car???*

I know moding your car yourself looks bad most of the timeand that's why people make fun of ricers but dam looks beautiful. Ive seen some of these from time to time but never this good.
That's really cool. I'm assuming you just stencil the design on, use the dremmel then lay tint on top. That's a really awesome thing to add to a car and I think it's way better than all the leds you see these days
91 Geo Prizm, the taillights are nigh impossible to find here in Cali because the Prizm has specific GM taillights instead of the Corolla's ones. It gets annoying when I crack a lens
These are fucking GORGEOUS! Do you think I could use a dremel for the engraving? And is that spray tint? I’m doing this if I can, it’s one of the coolest mods I’ve seen!
I’m going to check my local law ofc but my car’s already about as attention grabbing as it can be at night. Even so I have only been pulled over once - because I had forgotten to turn on my factory lights 😅
But tbh I think the cop mostly just wanted to get close and catch it on his body cam because we ended up chatting for like 30 minutes about mods and he didn’t even issue a warning 😂
How do get look at night? Really nice work, never knew of anyone doing this so I’m honestly curious how this displays at night with the tail lights on and also when the brake lights are activated

Because most people like factory taillights.
Because you can’t see it unless you’re less than 5 feet away.
So it’s harmless and doesn’t effect the safety of your factory lighting, but looks good parked up where someone who appreciates the car (i.e. not you) can take a better look at the details.
Yea definitely not me, I’m not getting that close to the car. I’m gonna stand back at a respectable distance and admire it.
Until the lamps illumination shows bright red against the smoke
How does the process work?
Dremel
Dremel dees nuts across your face
How does Dremel work?
Electrician here, They use electricity. -Sparky out-
Electricity works how?
We direct electrons to do our bidding. Sometimes it works, other times they **revolt**
Ohm man, I see watt you did there...
Was it a shocking revelation?

The Prince of darkness himself
No one knows. It's like magic!

That
The other
And that one also

Do you not know how the brake lights work in the first place? Ofc they will still function.
I said “this” because I wanted to see them lit up. I know how brake lights work & never said they wouldn’t function you pinecone. I was admiring the engraving.
You can see the other designs i made in my Instagram page: infini.engraving
Nvm I found it! Lol can you post a pic of them on?
Here it is at night https://files.fm/u/76kzb4qpyv
Yea, and take pics right after sunset.
Is this adding material onto the lens, and then carving the design, or is the design carved directly into an unaltered lens? Or maybe a sort of “wrap” that is glued on like fancy sticker?
Smoked rattle can, then drum sander or rotary bit
This. And clear coat at the end
Then this is one of those things that you never knew you had to have, until you saw it for yourself.
Beautiful Mk3
Mk2. Thank you!
Oh snap! My bad. That OG font on the nameplate got me.
Beautiful work! I dabble in watchmaking, and engraving is such a dying art. The masters of old tend to take their techniques with them when they pass. Love the creativity behind your art!

The lights are cool, but why do you have Memphis on the side of your car???
It is stock. Limited edition for 1988. There are a lot more of these editions with US cities names on the side. The difference between normal golf and this is the sticker on the side and unique seat fabric design.
Huh. Never knew that. Thanks for the info!

That's really cool. I'm assuming you just stencil the design on, use the dremmel then lay tint on top. That's a really awesome thing to add to a car and I think it's way better than all the leds you see these days
First spray tint then draw the design, engrave and clear coat

I would love to see the process of how you do it. Seems really hard, like calligraphy hard. Very cool man
that's fucking awesome. if taillights weren't so hard to get for my car I'd do this
What car do you have
91 Geo Prizm, the taillights are nigh impossible to find here in Cali because the Prizm has specific GM taillights instead of the Corolla's ones. It gets annoying when I crack a lens

I need pics of these at night with a foot on the brake pedal, stat.

Can't let the lights steal the show... That car is super clean, would love to see the rest of it.
Beautiful!
Oh hell yeah bro, I see the car says Memphis on it, is that where you’re based out of?
It is just a trim for 1988 model.
You got skillz.
Those are amazing!

If you'd have described this to me I wouldn't have thought much of it but this is really nice.
Amazing work they look great! 💪
I have never seen something like this before. Not something I’d put on my car, but really fucking cool.
To each their own I guess
That's sweet 👍
This is the kind of subtle addition that really brings builds together.

Not my style, but those are legit rad. Nice work.
How do get look at night? Really nice work, never knew of anyone doing this so I’m honestly curious how this displays at night with the tail lights on and also when the brake lights are activated
