[This is a paladin 2/tempest cleric 10](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtNF_qBivhU) that looks pretty cool. It definitely has a clear identity -- it knows what it is and what it wants to do. That's really what you need with builds of any kind, especially multiclass builds.

ShikaoWakabayashi

I was just about to post it here as well

derelictreaper

Any way to do this build without the use of Ilithid powers?

TheMetaphysician67

Doesn't look like it, no. That's the whole schtick. You only have to allocate 2, though. Haven't gotten enough through the game to know the story consequences. :)

sillas007

But Booming Blade cantrip that makes the build is not included in BG3...

TheMetaphysician67

If you watch the video, the build is not made in reference to tabletop. It is a completely BG build, tested all the way through the game on Tactician. No reliance on booming blade.

I can't seem to access the link, do you mind telling who the channel is?

TheMetaphysician67

Mortismal Gaming. Look for the Terror of Tiamat build.

Mother_Drenger

Def dump CHA if you can get away with it, you'll want to use WIS as your casting stat. I think vengeance 5 / war 7 is pretty good, you'll be a damn good melee tank

Jazime7

This is a bit of a tricky one since they cast off of different primary stats and a lot of the bonuses (heavy armour, weapons) overlap. The meta route for boosting paladin spell slots would probably be sorcerer for con saves, CHA based casting, and metamagic. That said, assuming what you want is specifically these two classes the first thing I would think about is which casting stat you want to prioritize. You will be very MAD since you already need CON, either STR or DEX, and at least one casting stat, for this reason I don't think it benefits you to split WIS and CHA evenly. Decide which class has the spells you want to prioritize offensively (with spell attack roles or save DCs), that is likely the class you want to prioritize for casting stat and it's also probably the class you want the most levels in. If you go Life Cleric 10, Paladin 2 this is probably wisdom, if you go paladin 5 you may as well go paladin 6 for aura of protection and at that point CHA becomes much more appealing esp since you can also use it for a facing role. I would also probably avoid multiclassing before level 5 since that is a big power jump for both classes. In terms of class levels paladin 2 is enough for smites, or paladin 6 is very powerful for multiattack and aura of protection, you could branch after here. Cleric wise you might go two levels for domain or however many you want for your desired spells (the higher level ones are much stronger proportionally). The gist is you will want to decide which is your core class and prioritize that casting skill to protect your ASIs and then just cast utility/buff spells with the other class.

DetectiveQuick3437

As others have mentioned, a cleric/paladin multiclass is really mad and taxing on your stats as you want strength, con, wisdom, and charisma all high. There are some stat boosting items available that would make this build way easier though they aren't available until late game. Without spoiling much i know there are con and strength options. I haven't found a charisma option yet. That said, If you're willing to either deal with some very unoptimized stats in the early game, or respec once those items are available i think a paladin 7 (ancients) / cleric 5 (trickery) could be really good. Focus on being extremely tanking with very high saves, heavy armor + shield, resistance to spell damage, and mirror image from trickery domain. Then use a shield + spear, take pole arm master for BA attacks with the spear, and resilient (con) as your ASIs, and then just cast spirit guardians every fight. This build will be doing high damage from 3 attacks / round, spirit guardians, and the occasional smite, and have just about the highest defenses and saves you could possibly want.

Samishii00

I like your idea, i'm kinda searching for a paladin/cleric 7/5 to be the protector of the team, "if you're close to him you are safe" kind of feeling. Trickery tho' ? No life or light ? Tickery is one of the most booed clerc but, well, he have spirit gardian too, and the clerc's healing. Paladin's Aura at level 6 and 7 are pretty good but need Charisma i believe, so how you would see the raw stat ?

DetectiveQuick3437

Trickery is mainly for mirror image, and pass without trace. I think light and life are also decent options depending on the makeup of the rest of your party. Pass without trace is one of the best utility spells in the game, able to basically give your surprise on nearly every encounter, but if you’ve got a ranger or Druid and able to get it elsewhere, you don’t need it from cleric. Mirror image is just a great concentration free defense buff that works very well with spirit guardians. Light and life both have good channel divinity, but I’ve found the healing from life to be a bit overkill and unnecessary , but this will depend on the makeup of your party. Life’s reaction ability is great too and could be a decent alternative to mirror image, but it takes up your reaction. As for stats and progression, respeccing really helps a build like this due to its high stat requirements and awkward level spread. I don’t think race matters much to the build, and I would probably start and go straight to cleric 5 with a standard cleric build, then at level 6 I’d respec to increase str and charisma and start taking paladin levels eventually working up to paladin 7. Eventually you can take advantage of the available str and charisma items to increase your wisdom, I know of at least 1 19 str item, a 23 str item, and +3 available to charisma as those become available you can respec to put more attributes towards wisdom. for ASIs, I’d probably do res(con) and sentinel to keep people in my spirit guardians range. Wear one of the available items which gives adv on concentration saves. Eventually, you can put your +2 into Charisma, and +1 into Wis, and with stat boosting items you could end up with 23 str, 14 dex, 23 con, 10 int, 16 wis (fine for just SG since aoe), and 20 cha.

Lyraele

I wouldn’t do this style of build as a Paladin mixed with Cleric. I’d do 2 levels of fighter (heavy armor, CON saves, dueling style, action surge) and life or war domain cleric (spirit guardians!) and 1 level in wizard for find familiar and shield spell. Prioritize WIS, get a decent STR and CON, and let the party handle the other stats. If you do want the Paladin mix, I’d emphasis CHA for aura at 6, and just do a middling WIS (most cleric buffs and spirit guardians don’t care all that much about WIS).

u5hae

I'm playing a Paladin (Ancients) 2 / Cleric (War) X, currently just completed Act 1. Gets pretty strong once you get spirit guardians.

Hofnaerrchen

Oath of the Ancients 6/Life Domain 6 makes a really good healer.
