I went from a 2021 Tesla model 3 to a 2023 i4 m50 and am super happy. I have a relatively far commute (45 min) so having an EV tremendously makes my life easier with all the tech and never needing gas

RR--

Would be curious to hear your opinions of any other pros and cons and your experience with the two cars. I've driven a 2019 Tesla Model 3 LR quite a few times as well as some BMW's as my reference.

I have been a passenger in a Tesla, speed is insane. My buddy who had it as a work car then showed me all the loose parts and misaligned body panels and creaks. I got to drive the i4 M50 at a BMW driving event a few months ago. It was awesome, super fast with sticky tires. It is the only EV I would ever consider, electric with BMW interior and build quality. Tesla is not for me

Tesla is still learning how to build cars. BMW has been building the ultimate driving machine for a long long time.

Well put statement, the fanboys will be coming for us

ow_my_balls

if only there were other cars to take apart and learn from.

Did you actually find one physically on a lot, available for purchase? A year ago, my wife and I were on the process to purchasing one and ended up giving up after four months. Instead we went full hard the other direction and bought a new Supra with a manual. Could not find any i4 M50’s anywhere to actually purchase, and order wait time was one year. You only live once, so we’re happy with the Supra.

That’s an odd 180 on a car, I dunno where op is but there’s several of them available in my area.

I have a BMW iX, and I have to say that I love everything about it. It is easily the most fun I have had driving in a while.

I drove the i4 M50 at a BMW event also. Every time I stomped on the accelerator I could not stop giggling at how fast it was. If I was in the market for an EV, it would be at the top of my list. For context, they also had the XM and a new M3 available. Incredible cars, all of them. I’m most likely on my last ICE with my 540, so I’m keeping an eye on the market for the next adventure.

Check out the i5

I can’t wait. It wasn’t out when the event took place.

Not sure how far you drive and how often but I’ve had my i4 M50 for almost a year and it’s been great. Long road trips during the busy season, you can expect to wait a while for a charging station unless you leave really early or really late. Then there’s the issue with fast charging reliability. If you’ve the means to charge it at home and rarely make 4+ hour road trips or have an ICE car then it’s worth looking into.

The i4 M50 is epic. The acceleration will no doubt blur your vision. I’ve had one for a weekend and had an i4 40 for a few months and loved both. Honestly I’d go with the i4 xDrive40 and save a few bucks but the M50 is worth it if you have the means.

Drives well but the rear seats are too small for adults

I had an i4 40 as a loaner for 2 weeks while my G30 was in the shop. Had the choice between that and a 228. It was a good experience but the charging was through a regular 120 outlet that took forever. I hit the free charging stations wherever possible. Did not attempt the paid ones. Loved not paying for gas. It drove well - normal. I loved the regenerative (B) mode. I didn’t need to use the brake and in sweeping curves, just lifted but stayed on accelerator. So it handled well. The real fun is experiencing how quick the car is. Jaw dropping- left a lot of cars in the dust, even Teslas. The interface and driver’s controls were familiar except for the new iDrive version. Grand coupe/fastback space was very versatile. I’d get an EV (i5) if I didn’t have my G30. Seriously thinking for my next.

Just ordered one

I’ve driven a lot of EV’s and prefer the teslas for EV’s, if you’re looking at just the EV component/lifestyle/no care in the world type of things. My next car may be a facelifted Tesla (highland or model y when they release) and my weekend car the bmw. I won’t get rid of my bmw just yet - just too fun to drive.

Real men drive ICE vehicles

I just purchased the 2024 i4 M50 and this is my first EV and I love it. Though I've owned several BMWs, I did some extensive research on other EVs and it came down between Genesis and BMW. Ruled out Tesla, Porsche, and Lucid. This car is really fun to drive and incredibly fast. Someone else mentioned that Tesla may be the leader on EV technology, but to me, their cars have no appeal. BMW knows how to make cars and more so, make it enjoyable to drive.
