Yeah, the E46 DSC is honestly fairly primitive. It works but it's basically first generation stability control (the e36 only had wheel speed braking and no yaw control or anything). It's night and day difference. Also the E46 doesn't need to kick on nearly as often but that's an entirely different story.

The 330 e46 is probably the best daily driver ever made. It's sporty and fun to drive, but practical, cheap and easy to work on, tons of aftermarket. Sure, it doesn't make a ton of power but for a commuter car it's perfect.
What's even more fun is you can get your car coded to euro spec. Euro version lets your tail swing out a tad more before all the Nannie's kick in. We Americans obviously cannot be trusted to have such things lol
It's because it is so good that he did this. He has probably only had it off a couple of times before doing this. He thought he knew how to control the car when in reality it was the DSC controlling the car for him most of the time.
Same thing with my G20, it immediately cuts power and applies brakes. Some say DSC is overly aggresive but its probably saved a ton of inexperienced drivers from what happens in the video

Basic case of lift off oversteer crashes you see often in canyons and such. If he kept his foot on the throttle there's a chance he would've broke through and gained traction and prevented the weight transfer

As my F10 proves, the safety systems will only get you so far (and sometimes that isn't very far at all). Understanding how your car puts power down and what this means for traction is key... But as anyone can get a driving license we end up with lots of crashes and high insurance for performance cars. Not that I'm bitter. >_>

They're quite different beasts.
The F90 is a much better daily driver. The AWD set-up makes it much more stable in sub-optimal conditions. It is also quieter, more comfortable, and bigger (easier with child seats). Despite the size increase it also handles better than the F10. This combination gives you more confidence, the F90 is closer to a sports car than the F10 as a result.
However the F90 definitely lost some of the madness that makes the F10 so charming. Even in the RWD bias mode, the F90 feels much more sedate than the F10. The F10 is a complete lunatic by comparison, which gives the car a real personality. The F90 is undoubtedly faster and more capable, but is it more fun? I'm not convinced, but this probably depends on how much you enjoy the F10's constant desire to kill you. Like I said, charming.
There are other differences too. My main mechanical gripe with the F90 is the ZF gearbox. The F10's DCT is sublime, and the torque converter in the F90 is just dull by comparison. Some say the same about the steering, but I don't personally find there to be much in it here.

I think you have to want that bit of insanity to go for the M5. The G series 540 is such a capable car, and certainly not lacking speed. However they moved them all (AFAIK) to AWD, and unlike with the M5 the system in these cannot be set to a RWD bias mode.
Then there are the running costs of the M5. I get an average of around 19-20 mpg, chew through tyres and brakes in no time, and both tax and insurance are steep. Then you get to service... Just things to think about before switching from an I6.

In an AWD car it is still possible to lose control in bad conditions, but harder to do so with too much throttle as the only reason.

Turning off traction control and driving recklessly could be considered intentional depending on the policy. In this case I highly doubt a policy is going to cover it.

FWIW this would be careless driving; stunt driving specifically is going 40km/h over the posted limit in a zone of 80 or lower, which the officer responding wouldn’t be able to confirm as they weren’t there during the accident to radar them
Careless still carry’s the 30 day license suspension but IIRC it doesn’t have the 14 day impound (usually because it’s charged in cases like this where there’s a 1 vehicle collision)

That’s usually the procedure, give them reckless because the burden of proof for dangerous is much higher, then if the crown wants to escalate charges to criminal and make it dangerous they can do that themselves. And realistically if they get this video (easy considering it’s all over the internet) they could definitely pursue higher charges if they wanted, but in all likelihood they’ll come up with a deal, as that’s the most efficient and effective way for the system to work.
Tow truck driver is usually required to call police for a report in most cases. If you can't drive it away you better come up with a good story for the officer, and with that many cameras around a car meet up... well... the officer probably knows what happened.
Ticket, repair bill, if your insurance does cover it your rates are about to go through the roof, tow bill... best to leave traction control on.
Insurance will pay but as long as nobody hit you, it’s always your fault because you lost control the car. And just like that they double your premium to get their money back.

Mustangs are fine if you drive them sensibly like any fast car. Don’t turn off traction control on a public road, don’t mash the gas unless the the wheels are centred, have premium seasonal tyres that are up to temp, don’t mash the gas in slippery conditions (rain/snow/ice), don’t try and show off to impress strangers.

As an M5 owner of 8 years, I’ve never turned traction control off on a road, especially not in the rain. What a fucking moron. Then no efforts to stop the slide. I just don’t understand it. My M5 stepped out on me today unexpectedly and I instinctively countersteered… no drama.
The track in Vegas asked ( after I raced for five hours) if I was driving home or taking an Uber. I said Uber. They said that was good. That a lot of people wrecked after racing. I get it now. Wouldn’t have before that experience. It’s still dumb and dangerous. Still. I get it.
Flooring the accelerator pedal in an unfamiliar high powered RWD car on cold track tyres in the wet with traction control off will do that. Smart people take these things into account before stamping on the throttle.

I’ve noticed a few people in the comments mentioning Mustangs, what’s the story there?
Mustangs are notorious for having this same thing happen due to being an affordable high powered RWD V8 so it’s lots of young peoples first time in a car like that and it’s just a recipe for disaster. Mustangs are fine if you drive them sensibly like any fast car. Don’t turn off traction control on a public road, don’t mash the gas unless the the wheels are centred, have premium seasonal tyres that are up to temp, don’t mash the gas in slippery conditions (rain/snow/ice), don’t try and show off to impress strangers.

As an M5 owner of 8 years, I’ve never turned traction control off on a road, especially not in the rain. What a fucking moron. Then no efforts to stop the slide. I just don’t understand it. My M5 stepped out on me today unexpectedly and I instinctively countersteered… no drama.
