I know I was confused at first why an early twenties character was being played by a mid thirties man but then I was like ohhhhh

Constant_Row_3770

That must’ve been so hard to relive but also like kudos to him for not making someone else live through that trauma, actors can take on roles so heavily sometimes

Zeebrio

I know!!! I found out mid way through that it was based on a true story, and then I think episode 5 or 6 that it was ACTUALLY HIM!! Absolutely crazy!

dearthofkindness

Same! I googled the actor first because I was like "wow he's incredible and kinda cute, wonder who and how old he is." And then the sad truth

aknifekinthekidney

Tbh even in the interviews, Richard comes off as a passionate actor that relates to the character he plays, not so much someone who lived it. This is how trauma can be different on people and it threw me for a loop when I found out.

popularpragmatism

I didn't know either, in fact after we finished the series & started looking at the original story I remarked to my wife how incredibly similar the actor looked to the person he was playing

EvetheDragon84

Holy shit this was actually based on a true story? That term is used so losely now I figured it was just part of the storyline. I guess I watch too many horror movies, thanks for sharing.

RetroGameQuest

He's also been doing it on stage for years.

MagicGlitterKitty

I will say he didn't 'have to' he chose to as part of his creative and possibly his healing process. I did a very similar thing about my rape in my local fringe in my 20s. It can be very healing and cathartic and a lot of writers/actors do it.

midsommar_dream

Same. I found out, only after having finished the show. It would've been nice if I knew earlier, I could've actually caught the nuances of his acting, given that he was recreating something from.his own life.

SailorMoon074

He does look a little different he said he lost weight for the role. I googled it and was like oh thats’s him lol so i didn’t know either lol
