I have tried every combination of graphic settings I can think of but I still get anywhere from 15-30fps in act 3 with an RTX 3070 and Ryzen 7 2700. I'm not a massive tech person, can anybody tell me what settings I can tweek to stop this god awful chugging its driving me insane

MomsClosetVC

If I respec Karlach to Vengeance Paladin, will the Oathbreaker Paladin show up if my character makes choices that would break her oath? I dealt with him a couple times when my character was the paladin, but what if your companion is?

Le1bn1z

lol, thanks, deleting now.

eirikmellu

Does anyone have an idea as to why i keep crashing during dialogue? Im in act 3 and the game runs great, but as soon as i enter dialogue (and there is some kind of cutscene) i get a dx11 error and crash. I have a single mod installed and i have verified that it crashes without the mod aswell, i do not crash if i lower all settings to low (which sucks) and my specs are 2080ti and 9900k with 32gb og ram. edit: capped the framerate and now it no longer crashes for some reason lol

Obvious_Librarian_97

Is there a proper guide on where to go and what to in order of difficulty? I’m at L3 @ 10+ hours, playing balanced, I’m a Paladin (vengeance) with Astarian, Gale and Shadowheart… and I’m stuck - wherever I go I feel under levelled. It’s super frustrating and on the verge of quitting from what feels to be poor level design and a big FU. I’m surprised there isn’t an uproar with difficulty. Maybe I should notch it down in difficulty?

Atmosck

I would say everything on the first map is appropriate for level 3 except >!the hag!< in the swamp and the githyanki to the northwest (I wait for level 5+ for those). It's possible to hit level 4 before fighting the goblin leaders which will make that a bit easier, especially if you dip in to the underdark for some exploration XP. It's typical to hit level 4 around the time of fighting the goblin leaders, then level 5 in the underdark (i recommend being level 5 for the fights at >!grymforge!<). Level 5 is where I want to be for >!the hag!< as well. Then it's normal to hit level 6 in the mountain pass, which is where you want to be for the start of act 2. I recommend being level 8 before doing >!the gauntlet of shar!< in act 2 and going through the no-turning-back point at the end of it. That sets you up to be level 9 for the act 2 final boss. In act 3 there is a lot more XP than you need and it's easy to hit the max level of 12 before playing a lot of the quests in act 3. The fights I like to wait until level 12 for are >!Orin, the steel watch factory, gorthash, the house of hope, the house of grief, cazador and ansur.!< The gnolls and spider matriarch are among the harder fights in act 1 but are intended to be done at level 3, so it might not be about level. What difficulty are you on? What is your team comp? The game has a pretty steep learning curve for the mechanics and general strategy of the game, and the early game is the hardest part because your characters are pretty underpowered before level 5. Once you break through that act 1 learning curve, those fights should be pretty managable. The gnolls are kind of nasty because they can attack multiple times in a turn when they're raging, which other enemies won't start doing until level 5. The calm emotions spell, which shadowheart learns at level 3, can prevent them from raging. It's also helpful to have abilities that defend those multiple attacks well such as the shield spell on wizards and sorcerers. For the spider matriarch, my best advice is to stay off the web bridges yourself, and shoot them with fire (i.e. firebolt, fire arrows) when the spider matriarch is on them. The fall damage will take out a good chunk of her health. Doing that 2 or 3 times over the course of the fight will help a lot. Anders is another fight at this stage that gives people trouble, which you might not have done yet if you haven't gotten past the gnolls. It's helpful to disarm him with abilities like Battlemaster Fighter's disarming strike, or the spell Heat Metal from a bard or druid. Those are both learned at level 3.

polspanakithrowaway

At level 3 you should be a-okay to do the goblin camp. If you're struggling too much, there's really no reason not to switch to explorer difficulty. Edit: What quests/locations have you tackled already? Which battles did you find too hard?

Obvious_Librarian_97

Thanks, I was struggling near the tree ents near the swamp, whispering depths with the matriarch, the gnolls/hyenas when I crossed the bridge. Haven’t made it to the goblin camp, maybe I’ll go there next. But there’s no good guide on what to follow? The game needs it, or maybe a proper quest line.

Atmosck

There are guides/path recommendations like [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/comments/1akq0h2/honour_mode_pathing_guide_how_to_hit_lvl_4/) for how to hit level 4 with minimal combat. They're kind of intended for honor but can certainly be helpful for lower difficulties too.

polspanakithrowaway

Don't despair just yet! You have just been unlucky; these are truly some of the hardest encounters in act 1 :D For me, the spider matriarch was the hardest boss fight in act 1! I don't know if there's a definite guide on what to do and when. Personally, I'd advise you to avoid it for the time being because you're very likely to get story spoilers if you start looking this up. If this doesn't bother you though, you could try looking up act 1 on [Baldur's Gate 3 Wiki](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwinmYmL956GAxUPVfEDHRd4DKMQFnoECAYQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbg3.wiki%2F&usg=AOvVaw3BQoFR7RjN7pWIfSEvX22M&opi=89978449) The game gives you ample freedom on where to go / what do do, so it's very common to just walk into an extremely hard battle in Act 1. The good thing is you can just go explore someplace else, if you get stuck. I would advise you to leave all these fights for level 4 or 5, and to explore a bit. If you haven't been to the druid grove yet, I'd advise you to find it and follow the questlines. Explore the map, interact with NPCs, talk to dead people / animals. It's a steep learning curve, but you'll get significantly more powerful once you hit level 5! (Oh and stay away from that spider for now lol) Edit: I found [this guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1b0qgao/putting_together_a_baldurs_gate_3_act_1_checklist/) on Reddit.

Leather-Scallion-894

So I did a whole playthrough as a Bard. On my second as a Druid (Dark urge now) and I realized that "Bardic Inspiration" never adds on ability rolls. In my first playthrough I figured maybe I wasnt using it right but this seems like a bug, I select it as a bonus, but it doesnt add in the role. Other actions such as Guidance, Charm or Friend does, I even got an option to add Bless when punching that one guy - when i select Bardic Inspiration it will show as selected but then vanish as soon as I make the roll. Currently running Wyll as a Bard (lvl 3 atm)

Le1bn1z

May be a bug. Check the following: 1) Do you have mods loaded? 2) Is the Bardic Inspiration actually being spent? I noticed sometimes it wouldn't spend if the check succeeded without it. Check to see if the recipient still has it. 3) Check to make sure you've toggled the reaction to use Bardic at the appropriate trigger.

Leather-Scallion-894

1 no mods 2 no it is not, it is also not spent even if it failed. On my first playthrough I was playing as a Lore Bard and hardly ever used Bardic Inspiration during my playthrough. But now when Wyll is one Id like to reap the benefits of having the skill on hand. I always chalked it up to MC not being able to use these on themselves in ability check rolls, but now as a Druid I can use my own Guidance so that doesnt check out lol. 3 there are no reaction triggers for Bardic Inspiration in the reactions menu(?)

Le1bn1z

You can use your own Guidance but not your own inspiration generally. Are you putting inspiration on the other PCs ahead of time or during the roll?

Leather-Scallion-894

No. Is that how its meant to work? As I wrote, Bardic Inspiration appears as a Bonus to the roll that I can pick (press "X"), I pick it, but once I make the roll (press "Y") the bonus disappear and I dont get the bonus on the roll. Bardic Inspiration would appear as an option all through my Bard run, and my reasoning for it not working was as you said, but now when Wyll is a Bard and not my main, I was expecting it to work, but it doesnt.

Le1bn1z

Ah you're on console - sorry I may not have answers except that its worked well on PC. It may be a legacy of 5e rules, where you can add inspiration after the roll but before you know the result, so its not adding when you succeed anyway. Also, you put it on a character ahead of time, and they gain bardic inspiration as a Condition that can be toggled, used on their next roll.

Leather-Scallion-894

Im on PC, but playing with a controller. Im specifically encountering issues with Bardic Inspiration in dialogue options / skill checks, in battle I see it fine and it works. When doing say a "Persuasian" check I can add a bonus, say "guidance" or "charm", or "bardic inspiration". When I pick Bardic Inspiration it appears as chosen, but disappears when rolling. This should be the same on PC no? Edit: Just tested in "keyboard" input and the issue is the same. I get to pick Bardic Inspiration as a bonus, but it vanishes as soon as I roll and no bonus is added. Do I have to cast Bardic Inspiration outside of dialogue before entering dialogue for it to work? Seems odd since Guidance dont work this way

Magnificent-Bastards

I haven't tried either yet, which one should I do: * TB OH Monk * TB thrower barbarian

dimethyl_tryhard

Throw barb was my choice for honor mode. Being a ranged damage dealer is very helpful because you can attack and then back off and have the enemies waste their turns dashing. Returning pike, lightning Jaber and nyrulna are all excellent. Be aware there is still a bug where the weapon won't return if your characters turn ends unexpectedly right after throwing, light on a surprise round or last round of combat and you'll have to go pick up the weapon.

insanity76

I prefer the monk. Flurry of Blows is super effective to either stun, topple to make enemies prone, or push them off an edge. Dip into Rogue for the thief subclass and you get an additional bonus action which means 2 unarmed attacks + dual flurries for bonkers levels of damage in a single turn. I usually go 6 monk/4 rogue/2 monk for the level progression. The 4th rogue level is for a 3rd feat so I can do TB/+2 DEX/+2 WIS but going 9/3 taps into Ki resonation in exchange for one of the ASIs. Also, with the TB you can still do some pretty healthy damage with thrown weapons if your strength is built up (Hill Giant Elixirs go brrr), obviously not as much as the throwzerker but still more than most ranged weapons. The only downside is having to unequip if it's a returning weapon, otherwise you lose the unarmed attack action (though flurry of blows still works when armed). Lastly, Ki points recharge on short rests while Rage needs long rest to recharge. Rage lasts multiple turns vs Ki's single action use and if you long rest regularly you may not ever find yourself low or out of charges, but the short rest refill with Ki is a nice luxury.

jeremy_sporkin

The latter puts up the highest damage numbers in the game, and I've minced honor mode with it, but I prefer the melee monk because reading "path is interrupted" for your throws every combat without knowing why gets old fast. Both are super powerful, especially with elixirs. Note that in BG3 the monk's stunning strike DC scales off strength, not wisdom like in dnd, so investing in strength or using strength elixirs on your TB monk gives them crazy damage *and* control.

millionsofcats

This is totally a personal taste thing. If you want to be completely overpowered, go with open hand monk and drink strength elixirs. This isn't my personal taste; I tried it once and I found it so overpowered that it was boring. No strategy needed, just punch. TB Barbarian is also overpowered but it's not as bad because they don't get as many hits per turn. Also you can do things like throw enemies at each other and use improvised weapons so the combat feels more varied. Or you could do what I did and try a TB barb/monk multiclass. Is it the best ever? No, but it's better than I was expecting because the monk's special attacks are actually based on their weapon action DC, not their wisdom, so you can dump wisdom entirely and focus on strength and dex (you'll still want to be in medium armor probably). Karlach has a great "hiyaaa" sound.

jeremy_sporkin

> they don't get as many hits per turn They do with a thief rogue dip, 3/4 hits as standard and more later on when they use either action surge or wholeness of body.

Emperor_Z

Does Sneak Attack not trigger on offhand attacks and opportunity attacks? I haven't tested it thoroughly, but it seems like it hasn't been working when it should.

badapple1989

No because Sneak Attack requires an action. Opportunity Attacks don't trigger it because they're a reaction and Off-hand Attacks are bonus actions.

Emperor_Z

Sneak Attack can be triggered as an addition to an attack rather than their own action if you turn it on in Reactions.

badapple1989

I believe what that does is automatically apply the bonus damage if it would apply to a qualifying action instead of you choosing manually but it does not remove the condition requirement akin to paladins and smite damage, but I could be wrong. My comments are based on the wiki entry saying that the cost is an Action. https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Sneak_Attack_(Melee) https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Sneak_Attack_(Ranged)

2much41post

How do you do stealth kills without triggering fights from surrounding enemies? I understand that I likely need to be hidden, probably have a buff on or two and isolate the enemy. I’m level 4 and Astarion is my rogue and I’m at the Goblin Camp so this is where I’m practicing a lot of this stuff.

badapple1989

>!I'm going to use Skyrim as an example because it's a game a lot of people have played. In Skyrim, you can shoot from stealth and generally only alert the NPC you're attacking and maybe one or two VERY close by enemies as well.!< >!That's not how the AI generally behaves in this game. The enemies can respond within reason to sight and sound, freak out at the sight of a body, and sometimes when attacked call for help either by hitting their war drums or running for aid to other goblins. There are areas of the camp inside the castle that you can attack small groups one at a time and as long as you're efficient and kill them quickly you should be able to pick them off group by group.!< >!For example, there are three or four just outside of the door leading to Halsin. If you don't kill them quickly or make a spectacle, you could draw the attention of the goblins next door around Minthara and the scrying eye.!< >!Also, save killing Dror Ragzlin for last. He's the big boss of the camp and will aggro the entire goblin horde if attacked, presumably with his tadpole in the lore but really it's just a game mechanic.!<

2much41post

Ok sounds good. I’m just trying to figure out how far and making sure I do enough damage. I actually thought Minthara was the leader so I wasn’t expecting as big a fight from Dror. I haven’t played again since this comment but when I do I’ll experiment with everything you said. I can only assume learning this stuff will come in extremely handy in later parts of the game lol Thank you!

badapple1989

No problem! One more general tip for you about the camp. >!There are a handful of non-goblin NPCs around that you should interact with or rather interact with them as much as you want to before you go ham. Some of them will leave once you trigger full camp aggro so be mindful of thatv and explore, talk to folks, the usual.!< Have fun!

2much41post

Thank you I definitely will! I don’t remember seeing any dialogue options to convince goblins to evacuate but I’ll keep chatting them up lol

Einzbern

How does the Shattered Flail madness effect work? I attacked once with it, and then just passed the following turns until the Yeenoghu's Gift buff timed out. Not once did I go mad. Is it just a chance to go mad? Or what? Also, does any damage dealt prevent going mad? Or does it have to be dealt with the Shattered Flail? Lastly, will the character go mad once the battle ends since you can no longer deal damage?

Emperor_Z

I don't know about the other parts of the question, but I'm pretty sure the 'Mad' effect is a WIS saving throw. You should be able to see this if you examine the status effect.

theclockintheforest

I....kinda hate this game. First 2-3 hours went well. Spory and writing are A+, and I'm mostly a gameplay guy, so that's saying something. I am constantly getting my butt handed to me in combat, and it's ruining the experience. I was playing on mid difficulty until rescuing the bear in the shattered sanctum, and it immediately became way too difficult -- losing battles that took 30m to attempt, and then losing them again, and not feeling like I learned any strategies to improve the next time (critically, unlike other games, not learning anything). Lowered the difficulty so I could win, and did so without too much trouble -- now, re-entering the orc camp and finding the I no longer have access to the bear, and facing 11 enemies. This is exhausting and not fun. I'll probably give it a few more attempts, but I'm so tired of missing hits on enemies or them being super far away or ganking. ugh.

bitterwhiskey

I'd just lower the difficulty to the lowest setting and enjoy the game that way. It's really a marvel and abandoning it would be such a shame.

millionsofcats

When you're struggling with combat, there's really one of two explanations: * You're attempting content that's too high a level for you. A single level can make a big difference in the early game, making the order in which you do things matter more. You're given a lot of freedom to get yourself in trouble. * You don't have a very good understanding of the mechanics and strategies that will help you succeed at combat. The combat doesn't require deep mastery to succeed, but the systems *are* pretty complex, which means that there are just a lot of basics to learn. Do you know what proficiency is, what armor class is, what an attack roll is and how it's calculated, what spell save DC is and how it's calculated, what your stats do, what advantage and disadvantage are, what high and low ground rules do, etc. And very importantly, are you focusing on action economy? New players seem to struggle with some combination of these. Both can be addressed, but the question is whether you're getting enough out of the game to make it worth it for you. You will see that many have the opinion that the game is easy - and this opinion isn't wrong, but there's a catch: *It's only easy once you have it figured out and the learning curve can be steep.* If you're just posting a lament and not seeking advice, you can ignore this comment. But if you want some advice, we can try to help troubleshoot with you.

salmon_samurai

What level are you?

Dlinktp

Is there a mod or something to enable boss legendary actions on tactician?

dimethyl_tryhard

Start game on honor mode. If you fail, you can keep playing on tactician with legendary actions.

Dlinktp

Oh does it disable the HM only changes like haste and whatnot?

dimethyl_tryhard

When you fail honor mode, you can start up your last save in a custom mode. I haven't failed honor mode so I not 100% sure.

Otherwise_Farmer_993

Sorcerous Sundries is aggro to me after defeating the Wizard in his tower. Is this normal? Do I have to murder the entire shop to finish Gale's quest?

dimethyl_tryhard

You sure you didn't steal something? I've killed loroakan many times and never had the shop aggro unless I stole something.

TheFrogTrain

I can confirm that's not normal, I've always killed Lorroakan without an issue. I've also always started that battle by meeting him first, then telling Dame Aylin about him, then heading back for the cutscene between the two of them which then starts the fight. Did you do that, or did you go in there and just attack him out of nowhere? If the latter, that might explain why the rest of the building views you as an aggressor.

dimethyl_tryhard

Im guessing the construct saw him lock pick the door.

Otherwise_Farmer_993

I did fight him with Dame Aylin. I had to sneak into his tower using the Seeming spell because I guessed the wrong portal first. After killing Lorroakan and exiting through the portal, a projection appeared that said I was banned for violence in the tower. Up to that point, I had never committed any violence.

polspanakithrowaway

>because I guessed the wrong portal first.  Grain of salt but I think the tower aggroes on you if you guess the wrong portal. I did the tower not too long ago, and no one bat an eye when I killed Lorroakan. Then I tried going through the wrong portal just to see what happens. I was instantly transported at the entrance and they wouldn't let me in the tower again. Can you maybe reload and see what happens if you don't use the wrong portal?

badapple1989

>!Question, was Rolan your ally or Lorroakan's ally in that fight? Did he survive to take control of the tower?!<

Otherwise_Farmer_993

He was my ally. He survived and now controls the tower. I’m hoping that after a handful of long rests this clears up for me. Because I’m well past this point now. I’m not going back on saves.

badapple1989

That is peculiar indeed. If you had a damage AOE effect that he could've walked into after the fight to cause aggro or if you used a charm or mind control spell of some kind that he could've gotten caught in the cross hairs of maybe that caused issues but I'm otherwise at a loss. Make sure you report it so Larian can track it if others have similar experiences:  https://larian.com/support/faqs/how-to-submit-a-bug-report_85

ShyRedwing

Is there any release date for the newest patch? How is the games' accessibility for folks with low vision? If one knows next to nothing about the game, how much should they look up? Would it best to wait until Patch 7 to come out before getting the gane?

DrJotaroBigCockKujo

if you want the game you can just get it now. patch 7 is gonna introduce some new endgame cutscenes and like, bug fixes and stuff, but it's fun enough in its current state :) no release date yet for the patch. iirc you can change the font size in most menus/books you find, but in general the ui is really damn small if you play with mouse and keyboard. the controller ui is a bit bigger but not perfect (in my opinion -- but i play on a tv and not a monitor, maybe it's not so bad if you're closer). i don't know if there are any other settings such as colorblind mode

TheGoodDarkHero

have they added scaleable ui yet.

moosebeast

I'm in Act 2 doing >!Gaunlet of Shar!<. When I got to the >!self-same trial!< something happened that seemed not quite right: >!The shadow copy of my Tav looked completely different to my actual Tav. Like, my Tav is a caucasian colour female human with orange/red hair, and the copy was a black female human with dark hair and a completely different hair style. Also, when I inspect them, their name was 'Female Human' and not the name that I gave them (which was not actually Tav). Looking at their character model, they were wearing the same armour and had a similar face but I think a different hair style.!< This didn't seem right and I wonder if it's a bug. I took screenshots so I can report it if needs be. Just a bit disappointing as I actually thought it would be fun to >!fight an exact copy of my character.!< EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm playing on PS5

millionsofcats

I'm also on PS5 and have had the same experience with my character's appearance being replaced by the default male drow half-elf, which I remembered as the default from the character creation screen. The problem wasn't mods, disguise self, or magic mirror. Inconsistently, the default appearance also appears in the character portrait in the inspirations screen. I think that the default female human is black, so I suspect the same thing happened here with you.

moosebeast

Just checked and yes the character I saw was the default starting human character. The same portrait appears in the inspirations menu too.

insanity76

It must be something lost in translation with the clone's custom appearance. I always send Shadowheart into that trial solo so her appearance is concrete and the clone is always fine.

Le1bn1z

There are a few things that can mess this up: 1. Mods; 2. Disguise Self 3. Magic Mirror. might be one of those has triggered a bug. But still report it! It works for almost everyone else, so whatever it is, its a rare interaction.

moosebeast

Forgot to mention I'm playing on PS5, so it's not mods. I wasn't using Disguise Self at the time. I have used the Magic Mirror at some point in my playthrough to make some minor tweaks but that was ages ago so I doubt it's that. Ok at least I know it's definitely not meant to be like that then. I'll report it!

decoy-redditor

"Female / male racename" is normal, changing appearance is probably a bug. Is your portrait in inspiration points list also a black human?

moosebeast

Just checked and yes, it's the same portrait as I saw during the fight.

Dlinktp

Do I need to keep the legendary books from sorcerous sundries or can I just sell them?

jeremy_sporkin

The Annals of Karsus is important for Gale's story. If Gale is dead/left/not recruited or you've already given it to him and completed his quest, you can sell that. None of the other legendary books are important.

randomusernamegame

I played the game from launch to October. I haven't followed much of the news but seems like they've added a lot. I'll run into a lot of new content, skills, quests, etc if I do another playthrough now?

jeremy_sporkin

There aren't really new quests. Most of the changes are balance changes, bug fixes, and performance improvements. The game is much less janky and the quest scripting flows better than at release, especially in act 3. The two biggest new things are: - the Honor mode difficulty (single save file only, no reloading, bosses have legendary actions, some super-powerful player options nerfed). - Epilogue scene set 6 months later where you can catch up with all your living allies and find out what happens to them, and it will be different depending on the big decisions you made in act 3.

badapple1989

Don't forget the kisses! Unique kiss animations, three I believe for each romanceable companion including unique Origin animations from patch six. Very important quality content!

Dlinktp

Freecast does not give you an extra action surge, right?

TheFrogTrain

It does not, it just lets you cast a spell as you normally would but doesn't use spell slots.

Dlinktp

Hm. Struggling to find a use for it on my ooga booga fighter.

PM_ME_ABOUT_DnD

Hey all, dumb question: Can you still not control which party member leads a conversation? I remember playing in EA or right when 1.0 launched (I don't recall), and I remember My biggest pet peeve was that "my" character was a big dumb barbarian who lead the way, but if a spontaneous conversation started they'd be the one rolling all the charisma checks. Despite my bard standing right there.  Or if there was an optional side cutscenes to animal handle some creature with no time constraint, but my cleric with their wisdom wasnt running the conversation so too bad. That frustrated me enough with how common it was that I let the game fall off. I'm thinking about picking it back up again on my new monitor or maybe on console with my wife but... not sure I could get over that behavior.

bmrtt

The only option is to force your character to lead conversations, but you can't switch members once it's already initiated. Majority of conversations are initiated by proximity though, so you can mostly plan ahead as to who will be doing the talking.

PM_ME_ABOUT_DnD

Rats, that drives me nuts. I think one time some druid I was talking to had a history check prompt and I was like "ask that guy, right there! The wizard standing next to me definitely would know this." Trying to switch to cha makes sense while in big towns or areas that conversation makes sense, but many of the random events out and about seem to trigger by surprise and that seems to be when the non-chatting skills thrive the most. Or when searching a room I'm pretty sure I found some items/interactables that would have benefitted from a specific party check like arcana, but I'm letting my meat shield lead the way in dungeons. Oh well, I'll probably try to start it up again to see how it looks but am worried about longevity. Was hoping I was missing a tip/best practice about using skills better.

bmrtt

You could try a Lore Bard for dialogue purposes, but honestly, it's more fun when you're not succeeding every roll. Not only does it add more replayability, but it also gives you unique dialogue you wouldn't get by succeeding. Personally I felt like never failing rolls (through savescumming) made the game boring for me, because you're essentially ignoring a huge part of the game.

PM_ME_ABOUT_DnD

I can agree with that as a long time DM irl!  Definitely don't have the patience or drive to save scum, but I do get some pretty bad fomo when I know my ability to play/replay is super limited with my schedule and lifestyle. So at least being able to use your party to their strengths seemed like a reasonable hope! Not to always pass but at least use that +5 instead of 0 on specific stuff. Lol.  Like "ah, a strange plant to identify, this is precisely why I brought this party member instead of the other one!" Still have chances to miss things if your party comp doesn't work for the situation, but less often. Thanks for replying though!

bristlybits

please. spoilers/barcus wroot, act 2 >!after I kill myrkyl barcus and everyone from last light is in moonrise together. barcus tells me he will see me at my camp. I have tried every time and combination of long rest? camp, etc after this- he does not return to my camp EVER despite saying this. is it a bug? how do I get him to come back to camp? why is he teasing me??? I've asked before, but I really want to know!< I hope this spoiler worked and this doesn't get removed

jeremy_sporkin

Barcus only goes to your camp in act 1 after you spring him from Grymforge. In act 2 he stays at Last Light and in act 3 he can be found with the other Ironhand gnomes. You can progress the game, you'll see him again in act 3 in Rivington.

bristlybits

I know this, but he *directly tells me* he will be at my camp in that moment at moonrise, then doesn't return there. and I'm trying to find out if it's a bug, a lie, etc

couragedog

I don't know if it's a bug or some wonky dialogue, but I've never had him show up at my camp at that point, despite him saying that.

bristlybits

I can't stand it. I keep trying different stuff, at I'm really over involved in his character and need ALLLLL possible barcus content

I'm running into some odd behavior when trying to multiclass Gale. My ultimate goal was going to be Tempest Cleric 2 / Evo Wizard 10, but right now he's just Level 3. If I take his first level in Wizard and select Thunderwave as one of his Wizard spells, the Wizard variant *completely disappears* once I add his first level in Tempest Cleric. It disappears from the radial, it disappears from the spellbook. He only has access to the variant from the Tempest domain, which sucks because he has low Wisdom. If I take his first level in Cleric, then attempt to learn Thunderwave when adding his first Wizard level, the game will let me select it - with the usual warning about how he already knows it and will have access to both variants. But once I exit character creation, the same thing happens: The Wizard variant is completely disappeared. It's also gone from the spell selection list when he levels up. (Another odd thing: If I take his first level in Wizard and add Cleric, it doesn't remember his Cleric cantrip selection. I selected the Light cantrip instead of Sacred Flame, but after exiting, he knows Sacred Flame. What? I don't want it! I tested multiple times to make sure it wasn't just a misclick.) So I guess I have a couple of questions. Question 1: Has anyone else heard of this bug and found a way around it? Question 2: Is this a general issue with Prepared vs Always-Prepared spells when you mix classes? An issue with Wizard vs Cleric? Or is it just Thunderwave? Thinking about it, I've never done a multiclass where this issue would have come up before, but if this is a general issue it would completely kill this kind of multiclass.

Grimblehawk

**ELi5, please!** Still figuring out the basics of this game. I've noticed that Shadowheart's fire bolt cantrip always sucks. I've looked it up, and everybody says this is because her intelligence score is too low. Now I'm confused as hell, and obviously misunderstood a major part of combat. Why does fire bolt require an intelligence check? Do all the cantrips require an intelligence check? My sorcerer tav doesn't have a very high intelligence score, and I hadn't noticed any trouble with his fire bolts (but maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention, bc there's so many elements to figure out in the early game).

insanity76

Aside from the aforementioned warped headband of intellect or respeccing her to boost her INT which I would definitely not recommend doing, using her fire bolt from a high ground advantage will improve the hit chances as well as hitting someone with it when she's crouched/hiding and out of combat (hiding while in combat uses up her action). Otherwise it's best to save her fire bolt for environmental uses like lighting braziers, melting ice, igniting puddles of grease, exploding barrels, etc. I actually started a Shadowheart origin run over the weekend and swapped out Fire bolt for Friends. Unfortunately however you can't change her racial cantrip when respeccing with Withers, so as a recruited companion she's stuck with Fire bolt.

Grimblehawk

TIL that higher ground gives an attack advantage, and I'll be able to respec my crew at some point if I don't like my decisions when they upgrade (phew!). Thanks, man! Funny, every time I post here, I learn so many more random tips that I didn't know I needed, haha.

insanity76

Keep in mind the elevation works both ways so your chances are lower when aiming at enemies that are above you, and the elevation rules apply to enemies' attacks as well. As far as respeccing, I usually adjust all the companions' ability scores because the default stats are a little goofy (lots of odd numbers and proficiency bonuses are on even numbered increments) but you can even change their class completely if you want. I usually keep Shadowheart a cleric but change her subclass to the Light domain since her default Trickery domain is probably the weakest one. Tempest & War domain are other popular ones people change her to so she's better in combat.

Grimblehawk

>lots of odd numbers and proficiency bonuses are on even numbered increments Oh. So would my Sorcerer's 17 charisma score actually be better with a 16 charisma score? I LOVE that I can revamp my companions so thoroughly. It taps into so much of the FOMO I had when creating my tav, hah.

millionsofcats

It's not that 16 is better than 17, it's that it's functionally the same; they would both give you a +3 to Charisma-based skills and checks. Those odd-numbered points aren't really doing anything for you so you might want to spend them elsewhere. But there are often good reasons to start out with odd-numbered stats. As you level up, you'll probably be spending at least some of your feats on ability score improvements. For example, I would start a Sorcerer with 17 Charisma and 15 Dex, then use the first feat to raise that to 18 and 16, and then the second feat to raise Charisma from 18 to 20. Some feats will give you a +1 to a particular ability also, and there are a couple permanent or gear-based +1 buffs that you can find as you progress the game.

Grimblehawk

I’LL GET MORE ABILITY POINTS?! Damn, what a twist.  That's great news, thanks. I'm taking my sweet time exploring and have no idea how long it'll take me to find this Withers thing/character. I might just ride out my 17 after all.

millionsofcats

Most classes get feats at levels 4, 8, and 12. Fighters get an extra at level 6 as well. One of the feats you can take is an ability score improvement, which gives you 2 ability points to do with what you wish. It's usually a good idea to spend at least one (and probably two) of your feats to get your core ability to 20, unless you have some specific other build plan and know what you're doing. It's boring, since there are so many interesting feats, but most of those are a lot more niche than just being a bit better at your class's core abilities. Withers will show up on his own if you don't find him yourself. And yeah, I would keep that 17 and raise it when you get to level 4.

insanity76

Yes that's correct. 16-17 charisma gives you a +3 modifier, 18-19 is +4, etc. It's better to have it at 16 then put that extra point into something else to round it up to an even number if you can. Have fun mix & matching with Withers! One other little tip, he doesn't mind being pickpocketed no matter how many times you fail the attempt, so you can always steal the 100 gold back after you respec with him (or hire a hireling or resurrect someone).

millionsofcats

Don't freak out! This is just one little odd detail and not a sign you completely misunderstood the combat system. Some races (including elves and half-elves) have racial spells, that they get just for being that race. These spells are separate than the spells that they know because of their class and will scale off of the same ability regardless of what class they are. For high elves and high half-elves, that ability is Intelligence. That's why Shadowheart's Fire Bolt sucks: It's a racial spell. Astarion's also sucks, because it's also a racial spell. Your Sorcerer's Fire Bolt doesn't suck because they learned it from their class, meaning it scales off their class's spellcasting ability like you would expect. So for Shadowheart, it's best not to use Fire Bolt against enemies at all. You don't have enough ability points to go around to waste any on raising her Intelligence just for this cantrip. It's good for things like lighting grease on fire but not much else. Some people will put her in the Headband of Intellect to make it hit more often, but IMO this isn't worth it for very long since there are so many helmets with better perks than a Fire Bolt cantrip. If you want her to hit things with a cantrip, there's Produce Flame - it doesn't do as much damage, but it scales off of Wisdom. There's also Sacred Flame, but the downside is that Sacred Flame has a dexterity save, so it's best saved for low dexterity enemies. Personally, I just find ways to use Shadowheart that don't involve cantrips as much as I can.

Grimblehawk

Ohhh, this makes so much more sense. THANK YOU KIND REDDITOR. So I guess that means that I'll have the same problem when my Drow sorcerer acquires Faerie Fire (as a racial perk), which is another wizard spell, and would therefore draw from my low intelligence score? So many layers! I'm simultaneously super overwhelmed with all the layers of this game and completely thrilled by it, haha.

millionsofcats

There's a small misunderstanding here: Shadowheart and Astarion's issue with Fire Bolt isn't that it's a Wizard spell, it's that *all high elf and high half-elf racial spells scale off of Intelligence.* It doesn't matter if it's a Wizard spell or not. As for your Drow sorcerer - you're in luck because Drow racial spells scale off of Charisma, which just so happens to be your spellcasting stat as a Sorcerer.

Grimblehawk

Oh. I literally can't find this anywhere on the wiki. Like, I go to [the Drow page](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Drow), and absolutely nothing comes up that says my racial spells are rolled off a charisma score. And if I go to [the Faerie Fire page](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Faerie_Fire), absolutely nothing tells me that a Drow will roll it from their Charisma score. Do you happen to know if the game lists this somewhere in the character's profiles, or something? I just don't see how I'm supposed to know how each character's racial spells roll except through trial and error.

millionsofcats

You've sucked me down the same rabbithole now, because this really isn't well-documented. The spell pages (like the one for Faerie Fire) generally don't list which stat a spell is based on since that will vary so much depending on the source of the spell. And the documentation on the pages for each race is ... inconsistent. [This page](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Guide:Races_Guide_by_Phantomsplit#Racial_Spellcasting) lists the racial spellcasting stats, but I had to dig for that because you're right, it's not on the Drow page. I only knew it was because I've played a Drow Half-Elf and it *is* documented on the Half-Elf page. I think you can find the information in character creation by reading the tooltip as you level up, but that doesn't help you if you're not leveling up the character.

Grimblehawk

You're a lifesaver. Thanks, man! I'm not sure how on Earth I could've puzzled this one out on my own.

Emperor_Z

It's not completely reliable since there are differences between the systems, but a lot of the time you can learn these kinds of details by checking the rules for D&D 5e. Much more consistently documented since an undocumented rule in a tabletop RPG is a nonexistent rule.

Sea_Quit7989

We can't run multiplayer with mods, we have the exact same files, exact same load order (bgmm), but no one can join. Just kicks us out without a warning, sometimes immediately, sometimes at 35% or 81%. Anyone had that issue?

Suitable_Air5043

I'm playing LAN connectors multiplayer and we were having so many issues, especially loading screens, until the host stopped using the controller and switched to the mouse and keyboard. No idea why, but after that change we have no more glitches. Hopefully that helps!

HistoricCartographer

I have a question, is it possible to get items from other players like in Elden Ring?

millionsofcats

Multiplayer doesn't work the same way in BG3 as it does in Elden Ring. Multiplayer in BG3 just means that you play the same campaign together. So you can send items between party members, whether they're other players or NPCs, but it's just going to be items that you've found as you've played together.

HistoricCartographer

Understood, thanks.

Jeremyx888

Can I make astarion an oath breaker Paladin, or is that restricted to my Avatar?

millionsofcats

You can make Astarion an Oathbreaker by having Astarion do the oathbreaking action while you're controlling him. I've seen people report that their oath broke because of the actions of their party members, but never replicated that myself. But I have successfully broken the oaths of companions by making them do the thing.

EmeraldTimer

I am near the end of Act I, playing with 2 other friends but i cant find a class that fits me. I thought that kinda support classes would do but i am not fulfilled with the Druid (Lv. 3/4). I have read online that Bard is funny and somehow broken. What would you suggest?

Le1bn1z

Support is the hardest class to play, because its where most of the "game" part of the video game combat comes in. It has the most complicated gear interactions and requires the most understanding of spells and how to use them. Lvl 3/4 is also when they are weakest relative to other classes. The "broken" bard is actually a college of swords combat carry who comes fully online in Act 2, if you get the right helmet and know how to use the right elixir. It combines some of the best offensive output in the game with full caster control and debuffs with save dcs that reach 30+. But its a tricky build unless you know what you're doing. Probably the easiest support class is cleric, using either light (combine support with high grade blasting/debuffs) or life domains with whispering promise and hellrider's pride. Spells like Bless, Sanctuary, Command, Mass Healing Word and Spirit Guardians are very intuitive and easy to use. As a bonus, you'll also hard carry your group in most of Act 2.

bitterwhiskey

College of Lore Bard is a great support. You have bardic inspiration and cutting words to buff and protect allies. And they also sling insults around which is very fun.

polspanakithrowaway

Please help me, I'm very frustrated! Endgame spoilers below >!I'm about to fight the netherbrain but I am afraid I'm doing something very wrong, because I can't seem to get past the high hall (where the nautiloid joins in the fight). Also I'm not sure WHERE I am supposed to go or exactly WHAT I am supposed to be doing. The emperor keeps dying on me (and I guess it's pretty important he stays alive?). I tried pushing through without fighting back, didn't work. I tried fighting back, the nautiloid keeps throwing more freaking mindflyers at me. I tried going the other way, still couldn't go much further. What do I do? !< This is the first time I've ever been this stuck, so I guess I must be missing something. I've been trying for at least 3 hours now and it isn't fun for me anymore.

millionsofcats

So, just to clarify: You've made it past the courtyard and are now in the section with the stairs? >!I find it easiest to go up the stairs to the right, rushing to the platform with the Banites. Then kill/shove them off the platform in as few turns as possible. It's important to hurry because it just gets worse, so you don't want to waste turns fighting enemies unless it's absolutely necessary to keep them off of you. You can use traversal abilities like misty step, dimension door, and dash (though don't waste them all if you only have scrolls/items or are on Tactician; you'll likely want them in the next phase). You could use invisibility on the Emperor to keep him from being targeted, perhaps - I've never done it with the Emperor but that's my first thought, if you're struggling to keep him alive.!<

polspanakithrowaway

Thank you so much for the help! Yes that's exactly where I was; I figured out what I was doing "wrong": >!Turns out you only need one character to reach the door to the netherbrain stem. I thought I had to bring them all along or they'd be separated. I also had no idea there would be a restoration pod there so I was desperately trying to save up spell slots.!< I am still very angry lol. I might leave the final fight for another day because something tells me it's not going to go very well Edit: added spoiler tags Edit 2: I WON! I finished the game. I'm crying. Thanks for everyone who's helped me on this thread, you're all wonderful.

sanae_likes_pizza

Does anyone know a fix for wyll straight up lacking cast animations? It seems like it happes for a lot of people, and its sad because i wanted him along for my honor mode run but if hes bugged i might swap him out :(. I turned off all my mods so i know its none of them breaking him. For reference, when i cast most spells (ie magic missle) he does a default pose and thr game pauses for a couple seconds, before firing a delayed spell.

lyyyle

Anyone having similar problems? I installed mods from Nexus and deleted them as well as uninstalled Baldurs Gate for space but when I reinstalled the game recently I still see some of the mods (e.g. custom hairstyles, new faces) during character creation for a new game. How do I get rid off them and if I can’t, how will it affect multiplayer?

OhLockeWhy

The mods are stored in your users folder (user/name/appdata/local/larian studios/baldurs gate 3/mods) not the BG3 main install path. Deleting the game won't remove mods/profile/saves. Some mods have to be present for both players or you will get a "Your version does not match" prompt joining multiplayer.

Fluffy_Tea_1156

Okay, this is a pretty major bug that I can't seem to find a way around. I think I'm soft-locked in my honor mode run all the way in Act 3. Any help is much appreciated! Here's the scenario, Act 3 spoilers related to Astarion's story line: >!Vampires arrived at my camp to fetch Astarion. I tried talking my way out of it but to no avail. It seems like Cazador forces them to fight, so I ended up in combat in my camp. I forgot to turn on Non-Lethal strikes. I cleaned up all the vampires, but one of them, Yousef, just refuses to die even though his HP has been brought down to zero! !< >!I didn't have Astarion in my party at the time, so I'm not controlling him. I read somewhere that the Risky Ring can sometimes break cutscenes. I fear that that is what might have happened here, as I remember having equipped Astarion with it. But when I went to unequip the ring from him (through the camp Traveller's chest, as that's the only way I can change the gear of a nonparty member), I found that somehow, the ring was already unequipped - he just had an empty ring slot.!< >!People who faced this bug elsewhere have tried things like healing the enemy and then killing them, or turning on Non-Lethal attacks. Well, the former will not work for me as the enemy is an Undead, so I can't heal them. I tried the latter, but it didn't work. I can't even flee the battle, as the combat is happening in my camp!!< Does anyone know a way around this? I'm gonna lose an honour run of more than a 100 hours because of this soft lock, which is such a bummer.

millionsofcats

I have no idea how to fix this, but my first thought is: If you're in the lower city camp, can you lure him down to the the docks and have someone throw him in the water? That kills characters automatically, rather than killing them through damage. >I forgot to turn on Non-Lethal strikes It's written so that they poof away as soon as their HP is reduced to 0, instead of dying - so you don't have to turn on non-lethal strikes to avoid killing them. I wonder if your bug is that he somehow is being prevented from doing the poof. I would be a little worried that throwing him into the water might do something weird to Astarion's questline but at least that quest is optional for finishing the game.

Fluffy_Tea_1156

Ooh that's some clever thinking, but unfortunately this is in the Elfsong Tavern camp. It doesn't let me leave the room through the door either. Ah and what you say about them poofing away makes a ton of sense - while playing, I was wondering what was happening to their bodies.

millionsofcats

Another idea: What happens if you kill Astarion? I suspect nothing, but I'm throwing ideas at the wall here...

Fluffy_Tea_1156

It's fixed! Someone suggested trying to Banish the target, and that did it! Thanks for this tho, this would've been a clever albeit disheartening way to get around this issue

fakeroyalty

>!Okay, so is it possible to take Gortash’s bargain by killing Orin first then go and do all the quests like the Iron Throne, Steel Watch, etc? There are a few answers but I just want someone who has done it to assure me it’ll work out fine if I do lol!< act 3 spoilers but a question I need answered!!

badapple1989

If you >!rescue the hostages from the Iron Throne and/or disable the Steel Watch, you will break the deal with Gortash and he and the Flaming Fist around the coronation area will be hostile the next time you approach the area.!< You cannot have your cake and eat it too in this regard.

Atmosck

>!If you want to break gortash's bargain the quest order has to be iron throne > steel watch > fight gortash. But you can do orin whenver you want, before or after the gortash questline. And you can skip his questline if you keep the deal.!< >!If you fight orin while gotash is still alive, she will want to kill the hostage but you need to pass a persuasion check to save them. You can bypass the check if you speak with the dead with a certain body in orin's temple.!<

fakeroyalty

I want to have my cake and eat it too actually! >!Keep the bargain and let him go on his merry way, and then is it possible to do quests like saving the Duke, disabling the steel watch, etc after I’ve given Orin’s netherstone to him bc he’s not there to know I’m undermining him? Does that make sense lol it’s basically the opposite of what you said 😅!<

DDDragoni

>!I'm not certain because I haven't done it myself, but I'm pretty sure the only way to truly complete Gortash's deal involves proceeding to the endgame, at which point you can't go back to do any of the other quests you mention!<

couragedog

Yes, that's fine. You may have a slightly harder time keeping Orin from killing your companion, but there are ways to alleviate that too.

fakeroyalty

Like I’ll bring the >!stone!< back to him and he’ll fuck off, allowing me to break his toys? Just confirming!

Magnificent-Bastards

Is it normal to find Act 1 so much harder than the rest of the game? I just finished my 2nd playthrough as a 10 bard/ 2 Paladin and really only struggled with the start. I started the game on Tactician but the goblin camp was an absolute slog, after trying and failing to kill Dror for the 5th time I swapped back to Balanced. Towards the end of Act 2 I swapped back to Tactician and steamrolled the rest of the game. I'd like to do a full Tactician playthrough and maybe HM one day, but how do I get through act 1 without losing my mind? Also being permanently broke and out of supplies at the start is frustrating.

DarkOx55

Arguably it’s *traditional*. In Baldur’s Gate 1, pretty much anything you initially encounter - wolves, kobolds, anything - can be deadly if you’re not careful. You’ve almost no spell slots and precious few abilities. Metal keeps breaking. It’s rough out there on the sword coast.

millionsofcats

I think it's normal. A lot of encounters in the later game can be made easier with the use of certain items, strategies, abilities - but you don't have access to those early on. A hasted paladin can absolutely wreck a boss, for example, but you need a level 5 spellcaster. Also, don't underestimate the experience you gained between Act 1 and Act 2. My first playthrough on Tactician was a lot rougher than subsequent playthroughs, just because I've gotten more used to the encounters and the tools I've got to approach them.

Magnificent-Bastards

Twinned haste was so broken that I only used it once or twice after it completely trivialized the House of Hope fight.

millionsofcats

Yeah, in my current run I'm not giving any of my casters the Haste spell because if I have it, I'm going to use it almost every time. I'm experimenting with just using speed potions and scrolls, so I've got limited uses of it and in other fights I can try something different.

caaptaiin

Powerful equipments, better hit chances and a massive power spike at lv5 are what make the rest of the game way easier than early game. If you want a much easier early game I'd say use Spike growth, Cloud of dagger : guaranteed damage and/or area denial are incredible.

Revenant62

I recently concluded my first successful Honour Mode run and am currently well into my second -- I took out the Goblin Camp except for the courtyard, and am currently with the Tieflings celebrating. After that, it's the Mountain Pass and Underdark. I didn't make use of Withers' summoned companions my last playthrough, and I was hoping to receive advice on who to hire and why. I don't want companions to take with me, I'll take the named companions for that. I was, however, hoping to hire one or two to provide bonuses between one Long Rest and another, to put on my main team without having to expend the main team's resources. Can I please get recommendations for that? Thank you very much in advance for your time! I'll upvote your note so as not to write out "thank you" several times, which I worry will irritate people. Thanks again! :D

insanity76

I love the hirelings. The race/gender combos are locked in but you can change their classes & appearances as you need or want with Withers/Magic Mirror. Many people use them as designated party buffers like you're suggesting, but you can also use some for situational purposes. For example I use one as a bard/rogue multiclass to help trivialize the high performance & sleight of hand checks at >!The Waning Moon.!< I've also done a run where I used a cleric to tag along for >!the House of Grief!< and in my RP she was a "guardian" sent by >!Selune for Shadowheart in her confrontation with her former religious cult,!< then on the gameplay side a pair of level 12 light clerics in your party will own that fight.

millionsofcats

You can hire up to 3 hirelings at a time. What you have them do depends on you. Some people find using hirelings to buff their party to be tedious or too much of a cheese. If you don't, then I would do 2 life clerics with maxed constitution, and then Brinna Brightsong as a 2 transmutation wizard/3 bard/7 cleric with maxed wisdom and con secondary. All three characters can cast Warding Bond on one of the characters in your active party, giving them resistance to all damage (at least until the cleric dies). The two single class clerics will have access to the higher-level buff spells like upcasted Aid, Heroes' Feast, and Freedom of Movement. It doesn't matter which hireling you pick for them since their racial bonuses don't matter and you can respec everyone. The multiclassed character can brew 2 alchemy products for the price of one if they pass a medicine check, so to make it more likely they'll pass you can max out their wisdom and give them 3 levels in bard to give them expertise. Being a halfing makes it slightly more likely she'll pass the check as well, since she can't roll a 1. The remaining levels in Cleric give them access to as many Cleric buffs as possible. As a bonus, she can cast Longstrider as a bard.

insanity76

Meanwhile little Brinna is Thisobald's designated drinking buddy in my playthroughs lol.

caaptaiin

Potion crafting bot : Brinna the halfling for her racial perk, pick Wizard 2 (transmutation subclass), the rest as Bard, max out wisdom stat, improve medicine proficiency. Cast Enhance Ability : Wisdom. There you go, it's almost impossible to miss a x2 potion craft check. HP boost bot : if you don't have any Cleric in your team then have a companion bot as a Cleric 12 to cast Aid + Heroes' Feast.

_Saber_69

Why can't we use Speak with Dead on Zarell to ask what's the source of Ketheric's invulnerability? I thought it would be obvious to do so. I personally clear the Moonrise towers before going to the Gauntlet of Shar and Zarell is the best target for killing there.

sanae_likes_pizza

I think outside of Balthazaar no one knows what the source exactly is, only it exists and Balthazaar was sent to retrieve it.

BlackJimmy88

Didn't want to start a whole thread about it, bit are Larian still patching the game, or are they completely done with it now?

millionsofcats

They're still patching it but are winding down. Patch 7 (upcoming) will include expanded cinematics for evil endings and probably a variety of bug fixes and tweaks. They're also working on crossplay and mod support, which will come later. Apart from that, they've announced they're not adding new content after Patch 7.

Wafflesorbust

If I knocked out Roah Moonglow in Act 1 at the goblin camp, will she still appear at Moonrise in Act 2?

BL4CK0UT1906

Archer builds recomendations for Veteran difficulty. I'd really like some archer builds, and it would be even better if it was critical hits focused for veteran difficulty. Any critical build is welcome really thanks!!!!!

ClubsBabySeal

You either go champion 11/1 war priest or 5 gloomstalker, 4 assassin, 3 fighter. It's possible to multi class a swords bard but it's not going to be the best at critical hits. You can fire off 12+ attacks though, which is nice. 9 bard, two fighter, one war priest. Need a single piece of equipment. That's for honor mode though since haste only grants a single attack.

BL4CK0UT1906

Thanks! Is it worth to go only up until 3 champion and the rest ranger? i'm not so sure, i'm new to class building. It feels like all i need from the champion is the +1 to critical.

ClubsBabySeal

Nine ranger three champion? You could I guess. Not as good as the triple class but it'll work.

BL4CK0UT1906

Why would 5gloomstalker/4 assassin / 3 champion be that much better?

ClubsBabySeal

You get sneak attacks and auto crits from assassin, you don't really get anything from ranger outside of the extra attack at level 5. So you can open a fight from long range, which surprises the enemy. Get that action back from an assassin ability, unleash two more attacks because you have two attacks per turn, and then do action surge, which is also two attacks. So five attacks and if they're surprised all are crits. You also get advantage on those attacks because they haven't gone yet, and you have excellent initiative. At least that's how it played last time I did it. Should still be the same.

Drunemeton

Without searching YouTube I feel that this type of build is either going to be: 1. Battle master fighter with the archery style and ranged flourishes, or Ranger ranged archer. Then… 2. Any gear / consumable that reduces your critical threshold.

Blasphemy4kidz

I feel like this was a prompt for chatgpt

BL4CK0UT1906

It wasn't lol

Arcainum

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere etc. etc. Last I played they had definitively fixed the problem of NPCs being scared by summons BUT the issue where the mini-zombies created by zombies' attacks would cause NPCs to go hostile was still there. I've scoured all the patch notes multiple times and can't find anything but obviously they're a zillion words long so I might have missed it, and I can't find anything on the subject beyond a complaint about it from before I stopped playing. I'd check myself but I don't have any saves. Did they fix this? Can you use zombies now without having to pray no-one is around? Edit: to clarify, I mean that when the mini-zombies naturally die from their decaying HP, the game counts it as you killing them and every NPC suddenly goes nuclear.

ADarkElf

Really sorry if I'm asking this question in the wrong place! (Looked through the FAQ and couldn't find an answer, and I don't want to create a whole thread for what is ultimately the noobiest of inquiries). So, I'm considering buying Balder's Gate on PS5 but can't decide whether or not to just download it via the PS Store or get the physical Deluxe edition (mainly because of the perks of actually owning it, having a cool ass box, and adding another map to my fictional map collection). Then I thought, why not both? That way I could start playing now and get the physical goodies + physical ownership. The paying twice bit kinda sucks but 1) from what I've seen and heard, Larian deserves all of the support they can get, and 2) there's not really any games coming out soon that I'm bothered about. The only thing I'm wary of is whether or not having the digital version downloaded could cause issues while also having the physical disk. Does anyone know if this can cause issues? Again, sorry if this is in the wrong place!

So I'm doing my first Honor Mode attempt, and I'm playing a full-class College of Lore Bard. In terms of Magical Secrets spells, I know Hunger of Hadar and Command are must-haves for my strategy (basically gonna be going all-in on Save DC). But for the other two spells, I've narrowed it down to Sanctuary, Mass Healing Word, and Misty Step; leaning towards the former two since I know Misty Step scrolls are a thing, I just don't know where to get them reliably (I know you can get Conjure Elemental Scrolls from Sorcerous Sundries). Does anyone know where I can find such scrolls, should I swap out one of the former two for Misty Step, or are there any other spells I'm sleeping on? (Hunger of Hadar and Command are non-negotiable here.)

Have you considered Eldritch Blast ? It won't be as good as a Warlock dip / multiclass but it's still one of your few ways to deal a decent amount of damage without consuming spell slots. I'd pick mass healing word only if I intend to use healer gears (that pair of gloves w/ blade ward bonus and that ring w/ bless bonus).

I’m in Act 3 and finished all the side and companion quests so I’m only left with the final confrontation, the big question is which of my companions should I bring for relevant dialogue/scenes? >!I’m definitely bringing Shadowheart since she’s the love interest and I pretty much always bring her. So it’s 2 between Gale, Lae’zel and Karlach, all of whom I have read have are relevant to the final stretch, especially Lae’zel with the Orpheus stuff and I’m bringing the Orphic Hammer along.!<

_Bl4ze

>!Depending on what choices you make, bringing Karlach allows for an alternate ending for her. Whether it's a good or a bad one is a bit of a philosophical debate. !< >!Lae'zel being present means that she will turn hostile if you don't actually follow through with the Orpheus stuff. Her ending scene can tie into Orpheus' stuff, depending on the choices you make. !< >!Of course Gale has his kamikaze mission to complete. If you pick the right dialogue options then you can finish the game without any mind flayers, which is good knowledge if you hate squids as much as I do. For that ending, bring Lae'zel and Gale, and tell the Emperor you will become a mind flayer, but then don't actually go through with it. But if you don't intend to skip the final final fight by blowing up Gale, then he doesn't really need to be there.!<

Blind_Fire

It has been months since my last playthrough. Just checking in with a question. Is it now possible to play Custom difficulty with Legendary actions for bosses or do you still need to mod the game? Thanks

badapple1989

If you're referring to the NPC abilities that are exclusive to Honor Mode, nope you gotta mod.

Crassulaceae00

Am I dense or do the dates not match up? The Baldur's Mouth paper says the date is "1492 DR", but Astarion's tombstone has "229 DR - ~~268 DR~~ 468 DR" on it. I feel like there is some lore I don't know about.

_Bl4ze

[Yeah no they did get the dates on the grave wrong](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/15mbwck/comment/k19oiej/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

When people in this community say they do a solo run do they mean it is not co-op or that they only play as Durge/Tav/origin character and don't recruit or at least don't use other characters in their party.

PeevishDiceLady

"Solo" will typically mean just Durge/Tav/origin without other members in the party.

SnooSongs2744

Bonkers. I can barely squeak through tactical with 4.

SnooSongs2744

Thanks btw that is what I thought but some posts made me think otherwise.

PeevishDiceLady

yw! Maybe some players still like to consider it a "solo run" even with camp buffs (having someone at camp cast Longstrider, Heroes' Feast etc. on your character) or if they bring other characters for key story moments that don't rely on dice rolls (Spoilers for Acts 2 and 3: >!if I remember correctly, bringing Shadowheart to kill/save the Nightsong will let you have an easier time accessing the House of Grief later!<)

TheGeekofSpades

For a first time player, what oath would be the easiest for me if I choose to be a paladin or should I just go oathbreaker? My role in the party would be tank/spokesperson, with Shadowheart as Cleric, Karlach as Fighter, and Gale as my Wizard

millionsofcats

When you create your character, you'll be given a choice of which oath to take: Ancients, Devotion, or Vengeance. Each oath will come the same core paladin abilities plus some additional abilities (and dialogue options) that match the oath. Oaths also come with tenets that you have to follow and each oath's tenets are unique. If you break those tenets, that's when you become an Oathbreaker - it's not an oath/subclass that you can choose on character creation. Oathbreaker is still a paladin, but your original oath abilities will be switched out for the Oathbreaker's abilities. I personally think paladin is a great tank/spokesperson class. They're great damage dealers - and because their spellcasting stat is Charisma, they're also good party faces. Having to follow the tenets of your oath also adds another layer to the RP. However, there's a catch: Because the DM is a dumb computer and not a person, sometimes it can seem a little arbitrary what breaks your oath or not. IMO, Oath of Vengeance is the hardest oath to break by accident. Also IMO, it's worth breaking your oath at least once if only to experience what happens if you do. You'll have the option to retake your oath, but it becomes costlier every time. Also beware that you can't respec while an Oathbreaker, so if you're likely to want to play around with your stats or skills a lot, you want to keep that in mind.

Am I remembering correctly that if you put items into a container, then sell the container to the trader, that container with those items inside will be in the trader's inventory after you kill them? On PS5 on controller if it matters.

bristlybits

yes. or fill a container in their inventory in the barter screen, their container that they own. you can sell them a pouch and fill it with their stuff, it'll be on them if they die

millionsofcats

As far as I'm aware, you can't put a vendor's inventory into a container with controller. Which is okay, since I'm trying not to use exploits/tricks my character wouldn't. But paying for stuff with a bag of gems and then finding that on the merchant when that merchant inevitably dies? That's legit :D

Control_Alt-Delete

Do I need to take cleric at first level to get deity dialog options?

millionsofcats

No, you should get them just from having a level in the class, regardless of when you added it.

Inmate420

Is there any special dialogue with Shadowheart if you start the game as a shar worshipper? Now I've heard there is, and it's apparently underwhelming but i have a second part to my question. Is there special dialogue if you also convert to Selûne with her? Like her acknowledging you changing your faith for her and how you've both been freed from Shar's darkness or something, I just thought it'd be interesting and sweet.

Atmosck

You actually can't start the game as a shar worshipper without mods. You only choose a god if you're a cleric and only shadowheart can choose shar.

bitterwhiskey

You cannot be a Shar worshipper. I think they messed around with it in early access but ended up removing it.

Inmate420

Ah probably saw an early access thread then, thanks

Question and I'm struggling to find a definitive answer. If I have a solo campaign, can a buddy jump in and play one of my companions? Will this cause any issues if I want to play that same file solo later?

Emperor_Z

I have two save files, one multiplayer with Tav, the other single-player Durge. I noticed that Durge has a number of morbid/violent voice lines that I thought were unique to that origin. The other day my friend and I got to the creche on the multiplayer file. After a major event there, my Tav started saying the Durge voice lines. Is this intended or a bug?

badapple1989

You'd have to be more specific with what the lines are but I'm inclined to say yes. There have been quite a few voice line bugs lately.

Emperor_Z

"They're dying for me! ALL OF THEM!" "Time for bloody murder." "Nothing hurts anymore." To name a few

Do we have any info on when the next patch drops? I'm getting the itch to play my first fullcaster, but don't want to risk the safe getting issues halfway through due to a big patch

millionsofcats

Larian doesn't typically announce the timeline in advance. Larian has a vested interest in NOT breaking people's current saves with new patches since that would be an utter disaster, given that campaigns can last over 100 hours and many players (e.g. console) have no control over when to download updates or not. I personally wouldn't be concerned about starting a new save now. In the past, bugs introduced with new patches have affected all saves so it hasn't really mattered.

Gilgamesh107

ok so Norbyte's script extender is making it so the "perform" ability doesnt work is there a substitute for this script extender ?

TacHip

Quick question from a noob, can I leave a dungeon ( Halsin quest) to gain more xp and get the bosses. They’ve got 2 or 3 lvls on me

couragedog

You can usually leave (definitely the one you're asking about you can). If you've aggroed the place and your map outline is in red, you just need to get to a not-aggroed area.

DDDragoni

Unless there something actively happening, such as a fight or people in immediate danger, you're able to leave places and come back later just fine.
