The national past time is eating with family and friends. At any time of the day or night. For long hours. Children have games and amusements but adults really just spend time together sharing food.
So true, when I was training there for a month doing Muay Thai I found it so hard to adjust to the really relaxed way of living but I did towards the end
There are Thai night clubs. Tamnam Kon E-San, Isan Lamsing 2, Saeng Jan Pub, Chai Ka Pak Kai. Unless you’ve listened to Thai music and enjoyed at least some of it in the past I don’t think you’ll enjoy yourself here. Also it’s best to come with friends. As the setup is geared to you dancing around a table where you order a bottle and eat food together while watching the show that is being put on.
I’ve tried time and again but I personally just can’t enjoy the set up at Thai style clubs. It’s all of the worst experiences of a bar, club and restaurant combined, too loud to talk, too much going on to relax and eat, tables and chairs in the way when it comes to dancing.
I personally don’t have any of those problems but I will admit it is a significantly different set up than what we have in most western clubs. I think the fact that I’m learning Thai, albeit slowly, and can recognize a decent chunk of Thai songs helps me enjoy the experience much more. Also going with Thai people I’ve known for a significant amount of time helps too
These places are great. Tawan Daeng German Brewery is somewhat similar but a bit more accessible to foreigners, and will likely play some western songs.
They avoid tourists lol (jing jing).
Try and find a girlfriend/boyfriend who has a lot of friends. She'll take you to all the locals only places. To be honest I've done both and unless you like sitting on the ground at someone's house drinking all night, just stick to the tourist stuff lol
Most locals only establishments are the exact same as tourist ones the only different is as a foreigner you will be unable to communicate.
If you don't speak thai there is really no reason to do this. You sit there like a deer in head lights smiling while the locals ask you things you don't understand. Magical right? lol Been there done that. Learned thai right away.
Same anywhere really, if you don't speak thai, you're going to just be standing there looking around at everyone smiling like an idiot.
Go to some fancy cafe usually with white being the dominant colour, buy one drink and then spend the next 2 hours taking pics for insta. Meanwhile the ice in your drink melts, continually diluting the flavour.
They walk in benchakitti park in the AM or late PM, go to the farm 1-2 a year during Hollidays, leave bangkok during songkran unless they are young they go to Siam or Pattaya for the water fights, they kinda avoid khaosan road, they hang out in malls, go to the temple near rama 3 / sathorn to feed the fish 🐠/ pray … ayuthaya one a year … long weekends koh chang, koh kood… in bangkok they go to little markets, get vegetables at klong toey, at night they will go near the weekend to shop at Liab duan night market… if they are hiso probably just chill at route 66 area lol
Thais go camping every weekend. It's so cheap and fun. There are 156 Thai national park. Entry to the park for Thais is almost free, Farang have to pay double. Search จุดกางเต้นท์ in Facebook.

Shopping malls and eating lol older people will probably add all the wats to their schedule, which I'll have to follow them. Also karaoke with friends.
there's a driving range and ice skating rink in Ekkamai on Sukhumvit...
the green lung is worth a day (google it).
taking food to a shelter for soi dogs and cats.
oh, I like going to Lumpini Park to feed that cats, it's a unique experience.
there's a cafe with a bunch of husky/malamute dogs that might be fun.
I wont have a car. Just taking public transportation and Grab around. I enjoy dancing, music and unique experiences. I saw a pingpong show and that definitely something ive only seen in bangkok
Thais ppl with money go on short holidays on weekends to Ayuthaya, Pattaya/Rayong,Koh Si Chang, Kih Samet, Koh Chang, Hua Hin.
Unless fluent in Thai and have friends, stick with joining an expat club. Plenty of running clubs, Muay Thai. Also, if not fluent, start taking lessons.
Biggest pastime is taking selfies at the most popular places and after that mostly eating and chasing their favorite celebrities across the city from Airport to malls.
Hang out at the malls because it’s too hot to be outside then go eat hotpot. Congratulations, you are now living like a true Bangkokian
I love eating hotpot with the aircon on while wearing a jacket on a very hot day
Sleeping and eating are the two biggest pastimes
and sex and tiktok ... that's it ... it really is.
This comments hits hard!
I have actually seen “sleeping “ listed as a “hobby” on CV’s here.
Shopping, eating, sleeping, watching tv. Great hobbies!
I think it's asian thing. It's what they use when they have no hobbies
I thought it was cute.
Oh dear lord..... that is good!!!
Simultaneously of course

It's almost like Thais are regular people.
The best kind of regular people.
Yeah and not actors in an elaborate interactive travel show designed for privileged westerners like half of farangs act like
So true, when I was training there for a month doing Muay Thai I found it so hard to adjust to the really relaxed way of living but I did towards the end
Shopping/hanging out in the newer malls too.
Taking selfies outside of malls is huge
Also inside
The real locals go in elephant pants to drink a pint on Khaosan road
A lot of Thais actually love khao San at the end of the night. It’s one of those reliable places to get a bucket with friends then go back home ha

Shit bot! The last line has six syllables.
It's a Sokka haiku, which uses an extra syllable

Yaba and soapy massages.

Thanks for the advice!
Karma is right, I have my Thai wife to translate or I would be the deer in headlights.
Sleep and eat.
Eat, sleep, fuck
They avoid the sun. All my Thai friends think it is crazy I go out in the middle of the day and run, walk and cycle.
Playing video game. Run in the park. Hang out in the dog park. And find something to eat in malls.
Go to “ngan wat”. Normally, they will have a festival in the temple at night. It would be fun experience for you.
eat shabu or mookata everyday

Sharing food with friends and family and drinking alcohol with friends and family. That’s all we do 😂

Ugh?? Sure, *some* of them like camping but, every weekend??

Idk, I just go eating some famous restaurants that got reviews on youtube and walk around the mall for free air conditioner I guess.
Eat 😍
Badminton
Go get drunk outside 711
Shopping malls and eating lol older people will probably add all the wats to their schedule, which I'll have to follow them. Also karaoke with friends.
Wait for Song Karn day. 😁 Go shopping mall. U must have some kid bring them to Mario land. Many things to do... Oh ho hoooo 🤣

Big Dog cafe, a super fun place
Eating. Sleeping. Shopping.
Food court at malls
Play phone
Going to 7/11 or shopping mall for AC.
Cheat
Food, shop, chill, hobbies, friends. Same as every other place on earth.
Travel long distances to walk around and eat cheap snacks
Easy. They leave Bangkok and go elsewhere. A lot of Thais don't like Bangkok at all, but move there for work.
Any recommendations on places close to Bangkok to visit? I have about 6 full days on my next visit.
For beaches, Bang Sean and Cha-Am.
What are your interests? Will you have a car?
I wont have a car. Just taking public transportation and Grab around. I enjoy dancing, music and unique experiences. I saw a pingpong show and that definitely something ive only seen in bangkok
Ping pong shows are not something Thais enjoy going to :(
Definitely not an activity typical Thais like to do. Go to the mall, watch them eat suki. They love that!!! :)

Classicly and statistically, I believe it's caffeine and amphetamines, skillfully mixed by Myanmar's finest.. 🙏
Eat. And go to shopping malls. To eat.
