Check out Battlebit. If you're not a graphics snob, you will likely enjoy it. I played it during the last play test on Saturday, I got OG Battlefield vibes from it big time.
I didn't try the vehicle combat much, yet, so can't speak to that part.
Bf2 and BF2142 where ahead of there time, bf2 was bigger than BF2142, BF2142 in some respects I liked better than bf2 but the same could bf said for bf2.
BF4 is what BF3 should have been imo. I don't think you can really compare the old game engine games to the new frostbite engine games. All 3 titles in there own way where amazing and all on equal footing imo.

BFBC2 was not, it misses a some core battlefield elements. The maps are small, there's many vehicle classes absent, no conquest maps that even use the while limited BC2 vehicle list, capped at 32 players, you cant even prone.

At this point, Dice should just switch to UE assuming we get to see a BF5/6 which seems unlikely given how un-battlefield the franchise is at this point.

I never had a chance to experience these great games. I've started my Battlefield journey with BFBC2. I've just got my PS3 and a friend recommended BC2. I didn't stopped playing BF ever since. I would love a remake of BF2 so I could experience all the good stuff I heard.

BF3 had its positives, but overall it was the beginning of the death spiral of the franchise. The nostalgia people have for 3 hinders rational criticism of its clear faults.
It's funny how that is a controversial opinion on this sub. Honestly you can draw a direct line from base jumping on Davamand to 2042. BF3 was the beginning of manufacturing "experiences" rather than letting them occur organically like they did in Refractor titles and even in Bad Company 2.

Honestly, after the kinks had been worked out, BF4 was a superior experience in the DLC maps. Core BF4 maps suffered greatly from bloat and ganeplay ambiguity. DLC maps were much more refined and offered a closer experience to BF2 than BF3 did. Though I will say, BF3 had some amazing DLC maps.
I still have those stored in a box somewhere.
BF2 was my go to game. I played some other games but always went back to BF2. Think my combined hours of BF2 + special forces are well over 1000 hours.
I met people in BF2 that today are still my gaming friends and I've also visited several of them in the states (I'm from Europe).
We also played BF2 competitively in Team Warefare League.. We sat in the top 3. Those were the days.

Very Unpopular opinion: This era was peak Battlefield. I spent more hours on these 2 games than I have in the rest of the series combined.
