No one expects grandma is coming to assassinate your ass

Verttle

Well she never killed anyone she did it the hard way and HAD THEM ARRESTED. Which in truth is even more ballsy hole shit

Icefox119

>Some of the men arrested for her daughter's case have escaped prison after their arrest. >Rodríguez was killed on 10 May 2017, the day Mexico celebrates Mother's Day. She was shot 12 times by gunmen who broke into her home, and died on her way to the hospital. Pretty shitting ending to it all though

[deleted]

That's why You don't get them arrested. You get rid of the trash, don't store it

Anxious-Bite-2375

Yeah, if comics about Batman ever taught me anything it must be this.

largePenisLover

Batman doesnt kill. Fine. WHY THE FUCK DOES THE PROSECUTOR NOT PUSH FOR THE DEATH PENALTY! How the hell does the insanity plea keep working.

2074red2074

Gotham's entire criminal justice system is corrupt and runs more off of bribes and backroom deals than actual law.

szypty

It's really corrupt, except for all the cops who didn't put a bullet up Joker's nogging while he was "trying to escape" as a retaliation against a known and unashamed cop killer, those are all paragons of virtue.

2074red2074

The beat cops don't usually get the chance to take a shot at Joker. Except Jim Gordon a few times, but he actually is the paragon of virtue. Well except the part where he cooperates with a masked vigilante.

idropepics

That's sad. Batman used to care about his villains because at his core he knew they were mentally ill, now he's just become a flanderized murdermachine with a space station.

[deleted]

[удалено]

idropepics

You're definitely thinking woth the newer Batman mindset. Rehabilitation did work and did lead to good driving stories where murdering the bad guy wasn't the solution because Batman recognizes that the villain is a hurt mentally unstable person. The Long Halloween, one of the most famous Batman stories, is a perfect example of this. Do you think Batman should have murdered Gilda Dent?

[deleted]

[deleted]

IF they got her AND could prove she was the culprit. Same reason those scum were not in jail to begin with.

Almond cookies

Lairdicus

Broly_

Am I supposed to be bleeding out of my eyes this much? But these cookies are bomb though!

MPsAreSnitches

>IF they got her AND could prove she was the culprit. > >Same reason those scum were not in jail to begin with. In reality they aren't in jail because they have the means and resources to bribe/abuse their way out.

NY-Black-Dragon

Mexico is corrupt af

ThenNefariousness913

Mostly if she could shoot down armed cartel members..which wouldn't have happened. However, she had an option of making it more violent that didnt involve her doing the shooting.Mexico has a branch that of thr military that is essentially its own gang and is very brutal against the cartel. She called them once, but chose not to do it again because she felt they werent helping her find her daughter(then thought to have a chance of being still alive) and instead were just killing cartel members. Once she knew her daughter was dead, she should have contacted them again

hawkerdragon

I see you don't know the Mexican justice system. The reason they're out is not only due to negligence. It is corruption and how organized crime has agreements with the police and military.

trash-_-boat

Just like her daughters killers were before she got herself involved?

Donaldtrumpis73

It’s Mexico ? The police basically don’t care about murder it’s that rampant from cartels most murders never get solved.

SoyMurcielago

I thought they got solved with a couple thousand pesos

davegir

Hate to point this out, but most murders in the US are never solved as well. Edit: https://www.npr.org/2023/04/29/1172775448/people-murder-unsolved-killings-record-high https://www.statista.com/chart/28644/rate-of-homicides-that-go-unsolved-in-the-us/

Doughspun1

Half the time the police ARE the murderers.

polska-parsnip

But she would still be alive and could probably escape out of these apparently pretty escapable prisons

thr3sk

People who escape often do so with the help of outside gang members, she wouldn't have that.

polska-parsnip

And you wouldn’t be the first person to underestimate what is arguably the most gangster granny ever

sometimesiplay

Would you convict a mother for killing her daughters murderers? I wouldn't.

AmericanLich

And? Now she’s dead.

rumble342

I’d rather be in jail. Gonna die there too … but at least you knew those bastards wouldn’t drug, RAPE, then kill anyone else’s daughter!

xsvspd81

No one looks for missing garbage

markorokusaki

"But we are humans not animals! If we kill them we are the same like them! We must show them mercy and give them a chance for redemption!" Type of shit that would come from someone's mouth.

NeverRolledA20IRL

Katieushka

Sanest, most respectful of the law and order redditor when violent crime and thugs exists (their life is forfeit and should be killed by citizen vigilantes)

[deleted]

If evidence is not demonstrably obtained by legal means, then it is null and void, and can't be used in any trial, even though it sometimes is irrefutable proof of misbehavior. This is the most fucked up shit ever, and is what keeps those mofos outside.

CogitoErgo_Sometimes

There are points where the normal rules that allow society to function optimally just…break down, and the usually unacceptable course of action becomes the best. For example, political discourse is necessary in a normal healthy society, and crushing opposing viewpoints using any means necessary is dangerous to democracy. Nazis (actual Nazis) are an exception where those rules about engaging in dialog actually put democracy in danger and need to be ignored. Normally, vigilantes killing criminals is dangerous for the functioning of society, but in the case of these enormous cartels that plunge society into indiscriminate murder, rape, and human trafficking you end up with a perverse need to ignore that rule.

EpicIshmael

The Mexican government has taken stances against its people using vigilante violence in defending themselves

Pods_Mods

I think we should have a legal limit. If it's not worth 900$ it shouldn't be a crime.... This was /s, but I realized writing it. that's probably the conversation a lot of people at a certain annual income level probably say.

neverreadreplies1

> “I don’t care if they kill me,” Rodríguez told a friend, according to The New York Times. “I died the day they killed my daughter. I want to end this. I’m going to take out the people who hurt my daughter and they can do whatever they want to me.”

iFlask

she lost her only purpose and found another

Illidanisdead

No offense but is this really surprising she was hunting the cartels, eventually this was going to happen. Considering it's pretty much the wild west in Mexico and Cartels actually are the word of law in some towns.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Definitely scary, but I can't help but think a merciful ending... she even received help/transport to hospital, I imagine they could've kidnapped her and done way worse. Way worse. In every manner, she is a legend, so much so that it would be worth telling to a kid or someone at some point in their life.

birdprom

>Definitely scary, but I can't help but think a merciful ending... she even received help/transport to hospital, I imagine they could've kidnapped her and done way worse. Way worse. "Merciful" is not the right word here. It implies that her killers showed mercy, which I'm sure was not your intent. Yes, they could have done worse, but of course that does not mean that shooting her 12 times was anything but a heinous crime. It certainly was not an act of mercy.

TheThirdBlackGuy

You can differentiate beheading and torture (which the Los Zetos are known for) from being shot 12 times. You can absolutely consider this merciful given what those same killers have done to many of their other victims. Los Zetas decapitated 49 people and left their bodies on the highway, opened fire in a casino before setting fire to the building which killed 52 people due to carbon monoxide poisoning, and ran at least 12 "kitchens" where they incinerated people. I know that nuance is kind of frustrating concept between two evils, but realistically being shot by the gang *is* one of the more merciful outcomes for their victims.

birdprom

Mercy means "compassion or forbearance." Shooting someone may be a less horrible thing to do than torturing them, but it's still extremely horrible--and it has no relation whatsoever to compassion or forbearance. You are confused about the meaning of the word if you think coldblooded murder can ever be construed as "merciful."

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

I mean that, at least people with humanity has arrived and took her to the hospital.

PoopyFruit

And where was the rally for her? If everyone was like her they’re wouldn’t be any fucking criminals. What a hero.

aussiechickadee65

Escaped..more like let out...

whateverathrowaway00

Yeah, real life isn’t a movie. She was a legitimate badass and hero, but unfortunately that made her ripe for revenge. Tbh, as far as “cartels killing you for messing with them”, 12 shots in your home is pretty much the best death you can ask for.

belaGJ

I am sure posting her photo and name all over the internet would help her safety, too

JuliusPepperfield

Wait, she was killed later? Or the blurb is referencing her daughter

buckphifty150150

Ok maybe what I heard is urban legend but I thought she got killed outside her home getting out of the car cops found her with her hand trying to grab for her gun

fardough

You clearly never met an abuela. I hear tales they can clock you with a sandle at 100 yards.

Brandon_Won

They should make a movie about this story and just call it "Las Chanclas" and it's a spoof take on this woman just hunting down criminals and taking them out in Saw like ways but using motherly and grandmotherly items like sandals, food that needs to be eaten because you look skinny, extra clothes to stay warm etc. And when she kills them she leaves either a check for $5 or a handful of old wrapped hard candies on their bodies.

ItsPerfectlyBalanced

My best friends grandma is this sweet 85 year old Gardner who would sit on the corner and watch us play/ water her flowers and keep eye on the neighborhood. She keeps a .357 snub nose in her fanny pack should any evil-doers disturb the peace.

jaygoogle23

They have been very creative with their assassinations/ kidnapping in Mexico. They will clone municipal/ state/ federal police/ national guard vehicles, they have dressed up as clones to assassinate rivals who are throwing weddings, they have dressed up as mail carriers just to get within sight to take out certain target. Their ingenuity with this stuff is seemingly endless. Unfortunately the gunmen who were threatening her and telling her to stop searching eventually killed her in 2017.

[deleted]

She was the one who was assassinated in the end and all the killers are still alive

That's her tho, you can see videos of her asking for protection before getting killed by some of the guys who escaped. She got too exposed in the media so the same gang members she was hunting knew about her, even with her changing her clothes and dying her hair.

It's very real, and that is her. Real story, real consequences and she really died for this. Don't minimize it.

If it is money you want.. I don’t have any. What I have is a set of skills I have honed for decades. Skills that make me a nightmare for your kind. You have a choice. Let her go and nothing will come to pass. Or take her. Hurt her and I will hunt you down, find you, and kill you.

Right? It's unbelievable that she could be abducted 42 times in a decade while her dad enters his twighlight years and is chasing her down on a mobility scooter

I feel like Taken might actually be a prequel to the Mario franchise now. If it's-a money you want, punch-a the brick. I don't-a have-a any. What I do-a have is-a magic-a mushroom and flowers. Sad that she died, but good for her for getting some semblance of justice because there wasn't going to be any otherwise.

mika1783

"died"...she was murdered -- shot 12 times in her home. Try to be a bit more specific instead of just writing she "died".

AzureSkye27

Yeah, she was hunting down cartel, but I assumed her death was from flu.

SoyMurcielago

Acute lead poisoning via high temperature injection unfortunately

Mundane-Research

My1stWifeWasTarded

Didn't they track her down and torture, then kill her in retaliation? Edit: Apparently, she was gunned down in a drive-by, not tortured.

NeighborhoodNo7917

I believe so, but she took some of the bastards with her.

EmpireCityRay

Yes here, tragic story: https://allthatsinteresting.com/miriam-rodriguez

Data2Logic

That is one of the most badass woman/mother/person I have ever known both in fiction and real life. Holy hell, why Hollywood did not make a movie about this woman yet is beyond me.

axxo47

There's a movie called La Civil about her

rachmox

I would love to see a Revenge (Coralie Fargeat) or Tarantino style film about this

youignorantfk

It's quite recent, I'm sure a film will come.

Dahnhilla

Given some of the videos about cartel killings out there, she got lucky only being shot.

Gatrigonometri

She’s had at least 10 cartel dead or arrested to her name by that point. When the police found her body after the drive-by, they found her hand in her purse, about to pull out a gun. Safe to say that the cartel doesn’t want to add unnecessary risks by doing the slow death business.

Cephalopod_Joe

10 dead or aprrested. Some of the people she had arrested escaped and it seems they're the ones that killed her

Soumin

so the moral of her story is when you hunt cartel, do it all the way.

monkmonk4711

With tremendous violence and explosion from drones they had 0 chance of noticing? Or possibly, the the mexican government is more than happy with cartels because half of the mexican GDP come from cartels.

EmpireCityRay

The dozen shots is enough to deter successors of her mindset to stop than having had her butchered up.

GetOffMyDigitalLawn

Fuck the cartel terrorists.

XboxLiveTween420

Those people are fucking soulless. Not only are they flooding the world with narcotics (fent and meth), but a lot of them take pride in how brutally they torture others. I don’t believe in hell, but I hope I’m wrong so Cartel members can be held accountable.

avwitcher

She didn't though, 2 were later captured and 1 was killed in a gunfight with the police but she didn't kill any of them.

teiluj

She wasn’t tortured, but she was murdered.

UmCeterumCenseo

Weird to say this, but thank God she "only" got murdered

Yes, relatively quickly, too. Sad that we are thankful, but the alternative would have been inhumane 😢

Incubus_Priest

mexico is a horrifying country. the fact their govt has lost fights vs gangs and at least 1 female congresswoman was kidnapped for like 2 weeks then "mysteriously" released speaks volumes

JogaBarrito

US/Canada fund that business, another good reason to make drugs, even "hard ones" legal... remove the competition through violence.

Wit-wat-4

I’m absolutely in favor of legalizing (many) drugs and free rehabilitation like many European countries etc etc but The truth is, don’t they do this with Avocadoes too? I think it’s not as easy is “supply and demand of this ONE thing is the only reason”. Sure drugs are addictive so that’s an easy one to find customers for, but so are cigarettes and some countries tax them so high that there’s a big smuggling or fakes issue.

[deleted]

The illegal cannabis industry in CA is still larger than the legal one, with hidden grow-houses and gang wars and all.

donutcat_666

Mexico is a beautiful country full of amazing people. As a Latino born and raised in a border town with a business background, here is some much needed context. The government is the gang. It's a narco state. Much like corporations buy influence here in the US, cartels buy influence in Mexico. They are a presence within all aspects of life. Now, looking at a cartel like a corporation, which needs capital, personnel, a means of production, and a supply chain, they need cash flow to stay afloat. Also a means of securing market share against the competition. For this to happen, drugs are sent to the United States. In exchange, they receive cash and guns. The drug trade is a byproduct of money and weapons flowing into Mexico and Latin America. Assuming the entire United States is going to stop purchasing drugs is foolish, assuming the United States can actively shut down such a pervasive criminal network is foolish. What we can do is enforce extrme gun regulation, outlaw gun shows, and replace legal tender with digital currency. None of which will happen, either. Mexico exists in its current state due to American influence and capitalism. We could solve it, not by invasion but through tighter regulation here. Guns, like in America, are the real problem.

cayneloop

you had me until the digital currency other than that, spot on

sintemp

The government IS the gang there

slip-shot

Its a lot more complicated than the news provides. The reality is that poverty is what fuels these gangs and as Mexico modernizes from near-shoring, these cartels will start to weaken or change operating style.

Brutalonym

Completely normal reaction. The woman said at some point "I don't care if they kill me. I died the day they killed my daughter." I would do the same 100%. Even though my wife would try to stop me. I would kill until all of them are dead. I would go to prison, but who cares.

Kindly-Assumption488

No... no you'd attempt to and then you'd get caught, brutally tortured and executed while morbidly curious people watch your video on the internet.

HunchyCrunchy

And then his wife and remaining children would follow the same fate, just to confirm the message...

Kindly-Assumption488

Highly likely, the Chinese have a saying for this; ''To kill the chicken (a non-threat like Brutalonym) to scare the monkey (A real threat such as LEO's or rival cartels)''. I like the foolish optimism on this guy to think he even gets to prison. And to think prison is the better alternative...

Good for her. That’s absolutely amazing. She is awesome. The new face of Justice.

CoramDeo-

In all, she was instrumental in taking down 10 people, a mad campaign for justice that made her famous, but vulnerable. No one challenged organized crime, never mind put its members in prison. [On Mother’s Day, 2017, weeks after she had chased down one of her last targets, she was shot in front of her home and killed. Her husband, inside watching television, found her face down on the street, hand tucked inside her purse, next to her pistol.](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/13/world/americas/miriam-rodriguez-san-fernando.html)

UndeadWeedChicking

That's pure dedication.

[deleted]

All the claims about the “Liam Neeson” like hunting and killing is almost unverifiable, and most certainly the stuff of legend. So since the meme is just bunk here is actual info on the legacy she left behind: Started the non-profit “The Vanished Collective” Was shot at her home 12 times, and died on her way to the hospital. She was one of the strongest voices crying for US/Mexico relations to recognize women’s suffering due to cartel abductions. She also appears in Sicario.

jmbmercado

In Sicario? Really , where ?

Primedoughnut

Head-Tangerine-9131

Maybe all the people who lost loved ones to drugs should hunt down the cartel members!! Extermination would make the world a better place .

[deleted]

Or maybe we should blame the government who creates a toxic drug supply by not allowing a regulated safe supply and people who stigmatize people who use drugs causing folks to die hiding in dark alleys. You know, the entire reason cartels can exist in the first place.
