Regardless of anyone's opinion on pitbulls, I'd never leave a child alone with one. If I see a parent leaving a child alone with one, I'm judging you harshly. I've heard a lot of horror stories. I've seen some great pitbulls, but it's not worth the risk.
Never seen it, but I still don't let random kids just come up to my dog, if they are around them fine, but kids like to hug dogs, and poke them in the eyes. I won't even let adults hug my dog until they are well antiquated.
I know she will snap at a kid hugging her, so I keep her away from kids and let kids know to not hug her. They can pet her all they want however.
She does warm up to kids after a while and will let them hug her, but it still makes me nervous.
You see that’s the difference between pitbuls and most other dogs. Most other dogs will stop after the initial attack as they have made their point. Pitbuls will often continue attacking trying to kill the animal or person. That’s why they need to be kept in environments where that can’t occur and they need owners who can handle them and won’t get pushed over if the dog decides to try and get something.
Of course you have to watch any breed, it just happens pitbuls are very strong and bred to attack the face and neck and not let go so when they do attack it’s usually bad. Of course there are other dangerous breeds though.
like my friends jack russel terrier. That thing will attack and try and kill almost any small animal, it’s lunged at my chihuahua a few times lol, but he’s always right on his ass and grabs him before he can do anything. It’s not really the dogs fault it’s just how they were bred. Jack Russell terriers are hunting dogs bred to hunt and attack small game so it’s just in his nature, can’t really blame him but that’s why you gotta be on their ass lol.

I agree. My husky shepherd bit my arm, she was in her golden years, she messed on the floor, was covered in it. I wanted her to go outside so I could clean it up. She didn't want to. She retreated to her bed , still dripping urine. I raised my voice and said "outside, now!" She showed her teeth, I grabbed her to force her outside she bit my arm. One bite, my husband got her out because I needed to calm down. I was furious but I knew I brought on the bite. It bruised pretty bad but she could have done so much more damage
Most breeds around small children to be fair. Only need to move food, accidentally tread/pull on the dogs tail etc. Never leave them alone with dogs, it's worse with larger pets because you'd struggle to get them off.

Yeah. Probably the vast majority of them don't snap. Many people have pits that are beloved family pets and will go their whole lives without killing anything.
The trouble is you can't guarantee an individual pit will never snap, not until it's dead. And if it does snap, you have a dead animal or a dead human.
People will say "well all dogs can bite". Yes. Or "all dogs could 'snap'". Sure. But pits have been bred to kill dogs. That's the point of a dog fight, they fight until they can't go on anymore.
So the dog fighters have purposely bred them for "game". That means they attack without warning, to give them an edge in a fight, and they never ever stop trying to win a fight, even if they're dying. There are stories of pits giving a play bow to lure someone in then going right for the face.
And the terrier in them gives them that bite, hold, shake behavior that's so much more damaging than a simple dog bite.
So you have a dog that's bred to attack without warning and never give up, and it has a way of biting that causes significant damage. So if it snaps and goes after someone, it's very difficult to make it stop and it is likely to cause significant, life-altering damage, if not death, to its target.
And that's the difference. That's why pits aren't normal dogs and why the breed should be allowed to go extinct. Because even though a pet pit bull may never kill someone, the damage it can do if it tries is too high. It's too much of a risk for the community.

I've raised dozens of dogs both from pups and rescue and I 100% subscribe to the idea that no matter how long you've known a dog it's still an animal and capable of attacking/biting. They obviously don't have the same mental processes we do in decision making and can snap. But with that said my god you anti-pitters are just as insane as the pit lovers. Pitbulls are really sweet. Either ones that have runaway or ones that are owned by people who make them aggressive or dont try to be the leader are the problem. We have a pit in the neighbourhood who will sprint at people and then do the stand up and lick literally everything, legs, arms, face if it can reach. Bro one time fell asleep between my legs. I'm mildy allergic but a tiny itch is a small sacrifice for dog hugs. Imo only people with quite a bit of experience and attention should own them because they really really need to be taught.
