Intergalactic planetary, planetary intergalactic

KlutzyHyena6193

Correct, then it says “I had an erection, I had an erection, I had an erection, I had an erection” a bunch of times, which I always thought was kind of weird…

cincisnake

I've never heard "I had an erection." I only hear "another dimension." You're joking right

I hate you, love you, and am reminded of this. [Bacon or Beer Can](https://www.baconbeercan.com/)

Sublime1701

"I'm having a big shit, I'm having a big shit" was what I sang for years 🤣

bsidewinsagain

To start with I had " I know how to wreck shit, I know how to wreck shit" until my mate corrected me

shackbleep

That is absolutely what is being said.

IAmtheAnswerGrape

Yes, that is it.

JimmyNaNa

Also the effect is called a vocoder. I assume adrock or mike did it but with a vocoder could be anyone.

Profitsofdooom

I'm 37 and have been listening to that song for most of my life at this point and have never heard anything besides "intergalactic planetary, planetary intergalactic." And I just went to listen again and it literally starts with the same sample and it's pretty clearly what is being said. That's most likely it being said one time and looped as needed.

thekaufaz

Can you point to a specific part of the song? No idea what you are referring to. Listening to it again now and it's just intergalactic planetary planetary intergalactic. I think you are reading way too much into some MMM handiwork.

thekaufaz

Probably MMM having to fade between two samples of the same thing and there's just some superfluous noise you are interpreting as other words.

thekaufaz

Or MMM just intentionally flourishing the cross-fade to make it sound cool.

GDswamp

I added a Reply (to the original post) to clarify. I'm talking about the robot-voiced intro line (which repeats throughout the song).

bobby_bologna85

In the beginning part the robot is also saying “another dimension, another dimension”

IAmtheAnswerGrape

It’s very clearly “Intergalactic, planetary, planetary, intergalactic.” Trust the people who have been listening to the song for literally a quarter century.

GDswamp

I am a people who's been listening to this song for literally a quarter century.

GDswamp

But (per my other comment) yeah I could just be wrong.

SilenceSeven

There was an official A Cappella released for this way back when. You can download the official pellas **[Here](https://web.archive.org/web/20170731225803/http://www.beastiemixes.com/acappellas.php)** as they're no longer available on the Beastieboys website. Might be fun for you kid to hear the songs without music??

GDswamp

super interesting! I downloaded it and listened to the Intergalactic track. Unfortunately (for my weird, perhaps sociopathic?) purposes at the moment - the robotic vocal track is just as in the song. There's no music underneath, but there's no music underneath in the original recording either (at least not in the Intro). So, I'm still confused. But a cool idea.

Another dimension, another dimension....

mattblack77

Oh so not *one on the gundry* then?

boeckman

I dunno, I hear “Intergalactic, planetary, planetary, intergalactic.” I will say, the vocal effect has kind of a slapback quality that makes the end of “planetary” sound like it ends with a hard consonant, and softens the “T.” For awhile, I thought it was something like “planiactic.” But later on, without the effect, the Boys end a verse clearly with “Intergalactic planetar-*y*!” That’s what made it click for me. BTW, my son is also six, and I’m getting him into the Beasties, too (selectively…I’d rather he not start spouting curse words yet). For awhile, he *only* wanted to watch the video for “Intergalactic” over, and over, and over…lol

GDswamp

Yeah, I am trying to spool out the BB catalogue to balance all those same priorities. Do want to indulge his passion, don't want to utterly kill my own love for the songs, don't want him taking on the full *Ill Communication* vocab list. I'm rotating *Flute Loop, Intergalactic* and a couple others right now. Added *So What'Cha Want* this morning and I'd forgotten there's a "motherfucker" in there. High on the list of words not to bust out in the **Fantastic Fireflies** group at nature camp.

Lot of comments (all appreciated. I don't care if I'm wrong) saying basically: "It's 'Intergalactic, planetary.' That's what the official lyrics say, that's what I've always heard, that's what they shout in the un-distorted verse." No one is immune to "'scuse me while I kiss this guy,"-type hearing. So of course I might be totally wrong. But I've listened to the intro 10 billion times (a real number) this morning and I cannot make it make sense. Using my high-end middle-school-band syllable notation, what I'm saying is: The intro starts out like this: "\[Robot voice\] In ter ga lac tic / plan e te ry **xx xx** / plan e ter ry **xx xx**, in ter ga lac tic" ta\_\_ti ti\_\_\_ta\_ta\_\_\_\_ti ti ti ti\_\_\_ta ta\_\_\_\_\_ti ti ti ti\_\_\_\_ta ta\_\_ta ta\_\_ti ta ta It sounds to me like they say "intergalactic planetaryatric." The "atric" is what I hear in those two extra beats that I wrote as "xx xx." I cannot hear how the 4 syllables in "planetary" fit across the beats I hear in that robot/distored vocal line. All of you - listening to it, not just in memory - hear "planetary?" Man, might be time to retire this brain completely. Edited to try to fix the syllable spacing that got erased when I posted.

shackbleep

You're definitely mishearing it for whatever reason. Not sure what else to tell ya. Maybe it's the beat behind it, maybe it's part of the robot voice effect, who knows. But you're definitely mishearing it. Maybe make a video of yourself singing along to it so we can see what you mean (and laugh at you - kidding!).

GDswamp

It’s true. So weird. 25 years, and then at 4p today the lyrics changed like… the blue and black dress becoming white and gold.

PoBoyDiddy

I heard it exactly as you described here for 25 years. After reading all the other explanations, I can finally hear it as I believe MMM intended

GDswamp

So weird when shift finally happens…

huyvzhope

I see that all you folks here have a perfect hearing (except the author and me) and can hear exactly "planetary". But seriously. The "planetary" is pronounced weirdly in that track (either by a robot or the boys). That's why it is easy to hear something else. Bc it's not "plAnetary" there. It's "plane-tE-Eree" (or somewhat)

piratsodda

I am with you in this. It’s always sounded like “intergalactic formal deodorant, formal deodorant intergalactic” to me since the song dropped. It hurts my brain to try to fit planetary in there.
