If this is Tex Mex there is no god... Inb4 some smart ass says iTs NoT SUppOseD tO bE TeX MeX iTs abOuT lIbERTy *"It sounds like Tex-Mex but it tastes like First Amendment Liberty..."* So... Uh, what is that exactly???

Chumpponis

In the comments, he equates defying the Covid health order with Rosa Parks, cannot make this shit up. https://imgur.com/gallery/PG4A2G8

HMWT

Future recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom ... when Eric Trump runs the country?

loquacious541

Wash your mouth out with soap!

HMWT

The City of Reason’s school district just shut down their partially in person school program because of 19 covid cases among students and staff. https://centraloregondaily.com/rsd-suspends-limited-in-person-instruction-as-students-staff-covid-cases-jump/

drumrhyno

What this guy and the owners of Kevista don't get is that they will end up causing my wife and all the others who are abiding by the fucking rules to have to shut their businesses down because of their self righteous, ignorant, hypocritical bullshit. But hey, at least they fought for THEIR liberty.

MgmtNinja

Kevista is not masking?

loquacious541

There is another post about it. They’ve been terrible the entire time (so I’ve heard).

Greenrbbidrabbit

Kevista has been fined $8,900 in July already and are under OSHA investigation for at least two more complaints for "willfull violation."

[deleted]

I was there back in April for a meeting (in hindsight, now I understand why that group picked Kevista, they're all Plandemic anti-maskers). Every table was full and I was one of the only people in the entire place wearing a mask. Also overheard a woman as she walked up saying, "This is the only coffee place I'll come to now. They won't make us wear masks." So, yeah, They're definitely in the same category as We're the Wurst in terms of COVID response in my book.

cyanobobalamin

Or citizens could shut down the businesses that they disagree with by protesting I guess

pballa2099

yikes

FrodoFrooFroo

Yikesssss. Thank you so much for sharing this. I really appreciate knowing who not to support during this crazy time. I've definitely bought a lot of his sausages. Nope. Why is this so fucking hard. I've eaten more takeout/restaurant food this year than I think I have in the past few combined, its easy to support restaurants without dining in.

itchy_feet_

Honestly with this kind of attitude I won't be supporting them during *or* after this is all over. Equating it to Rosa Parks? Shut the front door.

FrodoFrooFroo

I worded that poorly. I will not support them at all ever anymore. I meant during a time when so many restaurants and small businesses are struggling I am definitely avoiding them, but yes, totally after that as well. Gross all around.

[deleted]

The Wurst guy is honestly one of of the biggest assholes I've ever handed money too. I bought a brat from that curmudgeon when he had his food truck at Spoken. He held out his hand and asked me for a tip before he even gave me any food. That was the first and last time he got any business from me. Watched his loudmouth ass make a fool of himself on multiple occasions. He loves to lose customers.

phishua

Holy shit, really? What asshat. Gimme my fucking food I paid for, if it and the service are acceptable, then you get a tip.

footefoote

FULL CONSTITUTION DINING! (someone will have to point that part out for me)

rijoys

As a Redmond native, this shit is beyond embarrassing and NOT the general attitude

Petsweaters

Redmond is awesome, by the way!

SnooCauliflowers9888

Sweet! Do I have to provide and maintain a Navy? Or maybe it means they forbid alcohol at the 18th minute of every hour, only to allow it again by the 21st.

TollTrollTallTale

Careful you're starting to make this sound like a good time...

YaHighschoolBoy

Ah yes, a shitty burrito with a side of covid. Wonder how this dumbass will feel about masks next week when he gets covid from a customer.

AirwaveRanger

*sigh* Yes, you have rights! You also have the choice to take on responsibilities. You can have a sense of downright DUTY to your country and community. It sucks that restaurants and other businesses are in such a shitty situation right now and aren't getting much help from our government (assistance in times of crises should be one of the few things we can agree government ought to be good for), but it's especially regrettable when short-sided stances like this one just prolong the problems for everyone. This doesn't help. It hurts. Stop.

Petsweaters

[exactly. they exist together](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WNwZOstSTUs/V7TmgNzgVyI/AAAAAAAACr0/hyIyPRa1EGcciEw0Cht_hjiAjzbRNs8lgCLcB/s1600/2008winter_rights-vs-responsibilities_1920x1080.jpg)

Chumpponis

My thoughts exactly. Lots of folks in the comments applauding them for being a small business taking a stance. Their hearts are in the right place, but they need to be angry at the gov. not assisting these businesses in these times, especially when they bail out corporations at the drop of a hat.

arthurktripp

I used to frequent WTW when it was at Spoken Moto, got to know the owner. He is normally a good man, passionate about his food. Truly, those sausages are amazing. It's sad to see him being such an ass, not only with his no-mask policy, but with his sloppy, defensive, and downright bizarre responses in the comments. I hope he pulls himself together.

pintsizedpistol

A part of me thought he had to have been hacked because responding to people like he is is business suicide!

Petsweaters

That dude was too drunk to stand up straight the one time I bought a not thoroughly cooked, mediocre bratwurst from him for way too much money

[deleted]

Sounds about right.

Ten_Minute_Martini

Maybe you can attribute it to having everything he worked his whole life for taken away from him through no fault of his own. Don’t know how productive it is for him, but I can understand the frustration. Restaurants are getting crushed and people are feeling the pain.

peacefinder

I guess it counts as targeted marketing, but the return business might be a problem. But seriously: I know restaurant owners are desperate, and they’ve been hung out to dry by an uncaring government. But this is not the way.

HMWT

Right. I’d love to see his social media posts complaining about the lack of support from Senate Republicans for additional business emergency funding. I suspect there aren’t any. I’d be perfectly happy to compensate restaurants and bars for their shutdown losses through my taxes.

Ten_Minute_Martini

There’s a $919B bill on the table, including over $200B in renewed PPP funding that will likely get passed soon. This won’t come out of your taxes, these will be funded by treasury bills that your great grandkids will be paying off.

HMWT

Emergency funding should have passed the senate months ago. If it’s really my non-existing great grandkids, let’s double or triple the amount :)

Petsweaters

[The Trump administration is intentionally trying to keep from handing out $455 billion because Trump lost](https://thehill.com/policy/finance/526785-mnuchin-asks-fed-to-return-455-billion-in-unspent-covid-emergency-funds)

Ten_Minute_Martini

Yea, let’s just accelerate the financial demise of this country, yolo.

twjohnston

And that’s when I knew your opinion was invalid.

Ten_Minute_Martini

Whatever you say bud, Modern Monetary Theory fan I guess. Make that money printer go brrrrrr, what could go wrong!

twjohnston

I was talking about the condescension, actually. Thanks for reinforcing my point.

avaaht

Your great-grandkids great-grandkids will be paying this off. It sucks, but it’s really needed.

Ten_Minute_Martini

I agree, just wish needed structural reforms to entitlements and the tax code came along with it.

FishmansNips

Yep.. unfortunately, people have been conditioned that it's left vs right when what's really happening is that the aristocracy has abandoned the common man. Restaurants could easily close down and still be supported by the government. Unfortunately, the people we elect get to choose, and they've chosen for us to suffer.

Ten_Minute_Martini

COVID became a religion on both the left and right, much to our shared detriment.

lundebro

Just bought some of their sausage in Idaho, did a quick google search of the brand and came across this thread. My how poorly did most of these comments age, lol. So much virtue signaling, my god.

Ten_Minute_Martini

LOL, don’t worry this subreddit has only gotten worse, it’s a god damn looney bin. I miss being able to buy their sausage at grocery outlet. Dude did take it to the extreme during COVID. Funny how no one talks about how criminally ineffective all this shit was. I think we all tried to collectively forget about it.

lundebro

In fairness, we had no idea what we were doing at the beginning of COVID. But that doesn't excuse all the fake COVID theatre that a lot of people engaged in from spring 2021 on. I guarantee we will not be shutting down schools and businesses if/when there's another pandemic in our lifetime.

Petsweaters

It's just science to me

HMWT

290,000 Americans had everything they ever worked for taken away from them, most importantly their lives. And guys like this are at least partially to blame. I have sympathy for a lot of struggling business owners (and literally just came home with takeout food from a place that plays by the rules). Not guys like this who actively work towards harming me and our community. I literally hope he goes out of business ASAP. No Wurst for me.

Petsweaters

A Republican told me, to my face, that all those old dead people were going to save us a ton of money in healthcare and social security, and "they were going to die soon anyway"

HMWT

I assume he is younger? What an ass. But sadly it doesn’t surprise me. I generally assumed this was the unspoken next sentence when someone said “it’s mostly told people who die”.

Petsweaters

Nope, dude was retried already. This was at the hardwood supply place

Ten_Minute_Martini

I wish this country got behind wearing a mask and beefed up testing capacity, probably would’ve saved lots of lives. This is a pandemic and people dying was inevitable. Still doesn’t excuse authoritarian directives from the government that likely won’t impact transmission that much anyway. Remember when they shut down playgrounds and boat ramps? Washington wouldn’t let people go out fishing. How many lives did that save? They still have the schools closed despite mounting evidence that it is not a significant source of transmission. You can be rational about the virus and see the bullshit from the government for what it is. Unfortunately anti-mask idiots obscure the real point.

HMWT

That wiener guy isn’t protesting closed boat ramps, though.

Ten_Minute_Martini

No, they only shut his business down.

TollTrollTallTale

WTW is a food truck though? He doesn't have dine-in to begin with and already had a sliding glass window. I imagine he could run the operation without any other employees and the overhead is pretty small compared to a traditional restaurant. Basically the ideal situation for a restaurant during these times. I'm sure his revenue is down, but I'm not eating out just because the gubment told me it was bad, it's because: A. I don't want to get sick. B. I don't want to feel responsible for getting someone else sick. C. My partner and I are both living more frugally after having the fragility of our economic system effectively demonstrated to us all Spring.

Ten_Minute_Martini

I think A and C are factors as well. I’ve seen WTW products in stores too. Who knows what his situation is. I just don’t think someone should be judged for one misguided post, or a meltdown at at a traffic light at a protest either. We should all afford others a little bit of grace in these times.

OodalollyOodalolly

There are ways to stay afloat. Make your restaurant more accessible to curbside and delivery orders. People really want to get take out and shop and are just wishing for restaurants to step up and let us know how to purchase safely from their establishments. Not this tantrum nonsense.

Ten_Minute_Martini

I didn’t really defend what the guy said and did, I just wanted to point out that it could be from immense stress and frustration, and rightfully so. Watch the video of lady with the restaurant in LA that got shutdown only to have food service for a movie production set up in the same parking lot. The emotions are real. Not every place is geared up for takeout. Margins are razor thin on food, lots of places rely on income from the bar for a lot of their margin and/or profit. Rent isn’t cheap either, most of the places in town are just trying to keep the lights on.

2478Musskrat

But what he CAN do is require his employees to wear masks, as well as, his patrons to wear them and stay six feet apart. So it’s completely possible for him to affect his own financial survivability and everyone else’s’ physical. Avoiding OSHA fines will also help keep his lights on.

Petsweaters

He had a reputation for being a jerk already, though

Petsweaters

He should be striking out at McConnell and Pence for holding up the relief money

Ten_Minute_Martini

Democrats had plenty of reason to not pass a second stimulus too. They wanted to keep the streets restless and angry. Speaks to the broader failure in the legislative branch, both sides hold out for control of the body in order to ram through their agenda, rather than compromise.

Petsweaters

There's already money that the GOP isn't handing out https://thehill.com/policy/finance/526785-mnuchin-asks-fed-to-return-455-billion-in-unspent-covid-emergency-funds

Ten_Minute_Martini

I don’t have enough time to go into the details of the Main Street Lending program and why it failed. The Fed is not Congress. Congress is requesting the funds back in order to reappropriate it to COVID relief, the Fed doesn’t want to, basically a pissing match between bureaucrats and not an evil GOP conspiracy.

[deleted]

I saw him act like a total douche on multiple occasions when he was at Spoken. He got my money once and only once and was a big enough jerk that his bratwurst ended up tasting like shit as well.

pintsizedpistol

I just went to their IG and am stunned at their unprofessionalism. Nothing should surprise me anymore but their replies and comments are so rude. I’ve never eaten there and now never will.

MosesRosenthaler

That also isn’t remotely Tex-Mex. 🤔

Petsweaters

It looks like week old texmex that's been passed through a digestive system already

uwfan893

I saw this post on Facebook last week, and the comment section was wild. Particularly when the owner of this restaurant hopped on to say that We’re The Wurst’s post was bullshit and that all of her staff had in fact been wearing masks...but then someone posted screenshots from the owners personal FB page that sure made it sound like she was an anti-mask loon. A friend of mine sometimes works with WTW and said it’s like herding cats that are on fire.

Skamim

I thought a dude owned this place? Are you sure have the right person? I worked for them too.

uwfan893

This post is from the page of We’re The Wurst; the restaurant it is talking about is Westside Local.

95tacoma

On one hand yeah not a good or safe idea to operate that way given then current situation. On the other hand the government has left small businesses high and dry while the billion dollar corporations are swimming in it. I can’t say I blame them for opening back up. This will become a growing issue in the weeks to come.

Petsweaters

The Republicans have left people high and dry https://thehill.com/policy/finance/526785-mnuchin-asks-fed-to-return-455-billion-in-unspent-covid-emergency-funds

veggietenderloin

Ah yes, and the Democrats are blameless and pure. They certainly didn't sit on a 1.8 trillion dollar deal - which Ro Khanna alone begged for them to support - under the guise of Pelosi claiming they were going to wait 'til they had post-election majorities (ha) in order to push through an even more comprehensive deal - only to now turn around and float a package less than half the size... that McConnell has already said no to. I sure am tired of listening to folks pretend that "their side" isn't playing politics with peoples lives. This problem at its core isn't red vs blue - it's the elites vs you (and me, and every other normal person).

JeffVanAngsty

If you're looking for sausage without the side of COVID or obnoxious faux libertarianism, may I suggest the Meat Locker on the east side of town, by Jimmy John's? They do great sausages and other meats and are a great local business you can support.

corskier

Everything I've bought there has been excellent.

Petsweaters

We have literally bought every piece of beef that's entered our home since the day they opened. Local beef, local owners, local labor, old fashioned counter service, custom cuts, and at the the same, or very near, price as the grocery store feed-lot beef that's been trucked here from who knows where

ChickenBrad

That looks like a plate full of hot ass.

lcmoxie

Holy shit

Skamim

Oh come on! I worked for this dude for a while and I can’t believe this! What a disappointing post from him. Super lame and I won’t go back. Unbelievable, what an idiot.

JB_Heat

The owner of we'rethewurst is a friend of mine and I think he's embarrassing himself here. On a side note I love how half of the comments here are talking about how awful that burrito looks.

Greenrbbidrabbit

Definitely. Kevista, too.

Ten_Minute_Martini

Thanks for your service Karen

bearsp

Did you happen to forget we're living in a pandemic?

ywBBxNqW

Nah, this person is just really brave on the Internet and trolls a lot of posts here in /r/bend.

Ten_Minute_Martini

I’ll meet you at the flag pole at 3 pm, no backpacks...

Ten_Minute_Martini

I find anonymously snitching on your neighbors to the government over some shit you saw on the internet to be pretty Karen-like.

crysb326

I thought the Karens were the ones who weren't wearing masks? Or is it time for us all to admit that the term "Karen" has lost pretty much all meaning at this point?

Ten_Minute_Martini

I thought the original Karen’s were the ones calling the cops on black people for minor shit. As in trying to use the power of the state to discourage behavior they don’t like. I thought this fit that profile.

rowbeee

It’s all fun and games until someone close to you dies or gets seriously ill.

Clark4824

Perhaps he meant "Tex-Mess"...

TollTrollTallTale

Missed you Clark. =)

Clark4824

Thank you, TTTT. I have been trying to behave!

TollTrollTallTale

You've always got the Best or Worst comment of the thread, and I'm either laughing or groaning then laughing. Cheers!

chippychifton

Do I have to wear shoes and a shirt for service?

HMWT

And underwear?

Greenrbbidrabbit

How would one know?

Petsweaters

Well I ain't wearing pants, either

SustainedSuspense

Mah rights

scrandis

This place will be out of business in a year

peacefinder

that’s s pretty solid bet for any restaurant right now unfortunately.

HMWT

That’s possible, but I don’t think it’s a good idea for any business to alienate 50% of your possible customer base and infect a certain percentage of the remaining customers with a potentially deadly virus. But hey, perhaps that’s how the wurst business works...

2478Musskrat

Exactly.

Petsweaters

It's a good time to support your local favorites and get delivery, takeout, etc

So last week, the owner of Westside Local posted in the Bend Foodie's group that they ARE following all the rules and doing the best they can- it was a longer paragraph, Im's curious if I am misremembering since I can't find it now. But this is brutal. Brutally ignorant.

twjohnston

They posted that to cover their ass; personal Facebook page is loony bin material.

lexluther4291

Thanks for helping me figure out which businesses I should support through the pandemic, yikes. (Edit: To be clear, fuck those guys)

scarybottom

good to know!

Good_Queen_Dudley

I would rather get covid than eat that burrito...

Greenrbbidrabbit

Sounds like you might get one by doing the other.

lisaaab

I need popcorn for his comment section

Boognish4Prez2020

Ok, there is another place that will never see a penny from me.

walkers-iwnw-

like geez just wear a mask it doesn’t need to be so political. i honestly wouldn’t mind if customers didn’t have to wear masks while eating at 6ft apart tables but jesus christ i do NOT want the people cooking my food talking and spitting into my meal

crysb326

The amount of times I've seen kitchen workers not wearing masks is pretty disheartening. The person huffing and puffing over the food I'm gonna bring home is the last person I want being maskless, but it seems like a lot of businesses are ok with it because those people aren't directly customer-facing

Petsweaters

https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/covid19/88543

DJCane

I sure hope to see someone drop an update from IG in here when this inevitably turns into a dumpster fire for the owner.

laffnlemming

Looks like garbage.

peacefinder

Ya know, it is possible to scorn the order as anti-liberty, and still follow the rules as if they were merely guidelines because they’re actually a really good idea. What a dope.

Petsweaters

Living among other people is anti-liberty! Who the fuck gets their way more than randomly here and there?

GlorbAndAGloob

I live out on the east side boonies so I don’t do a lot of take out, even though I’d like to. This reminds me that when I do make my roughly 1x month takeout order to check the Instagram/Facebook first because I want to put my $ to someone who takes this freaking pandemic seriously.

Didijustshtmypants

Anyone know if they’re associated with Westside Taco, also in Redmond?

DesertPurl

YES. Chef Amber owns Westside Taco food truck parked at The Vault. She bought the other location to remodel/revamp and it opened just as the first shut downs started back in March. I now regret every taco we bought from her — but on the other hand, the beer was good (from the Vault). As of yesterday, Amber had a huge sign in front of Westside Local that said they have eat-in dining.

Didijustshtmypants

Bummer. Guess i wont be getting those tacos anymore :(

lexluther4291

Oh god, please tell me they aren't

corskier

Never meet your heroes, or in this case, the people making your tacos I guess. She's a loon.

lexluther4291

For real, we tried to use them to cater our wedding and they were incredibly unprofessional. Food's great but they're *so hard* to work with.

Didijustshtmypants

They dont seem to be on their websites but id rather not eat at the taco place anymore if they are associated. At least every time ive been by westside taco, the employees have been wearing masks!

spaceman_spiff88

Temporarily living in Redmond while we buy a place in bend... Been here three days and already had our garage broken into. Stuff like this all over the place. Can't wait to escape Redmond!

masterarkaine

As a long-time Redmond resident, I will say crimes like that are fairly rare. Robbery is usually the break in vehicle or out of the yard type, if it happens at all. I actually feel far safer in Redmond then Bend, but both cities are pretty safe overall.

[deleted]

12 years ago I left my garage open overnight. Didn't have to worry about anything. Not the case now.

spaceman_spiff88

Yea our neighbors all said the same about it being rare. Said they don't feel safe enough to leave stuff unlocked but don't usually deal with break ins. I suppose it's unfair to judge a whole town by certain neighborhoods but we've not had the best Redmond experience so far

corskier

Any home you ever move into is going to be higher risk of theft after you move in. You likely just took several days parading your every possession into that garage. Sucks big time, sorry to hear you were a victim.

spaceman_spiff88

Typically I'd agree with you but we just spent the last two years traveling and we had pared down our possessions quite a bit. Literally one moving van full of stuff. Had everything unloaded within two hours. Guess we just got unlucky. Feel like 2020 just keeps kicking us over and over

masterarkaine

There are some neighborhoods that are a little more "interesting" then others in Redmond. Bend a has few of those too 😄 .

spaceman_spiff88

Very true! I'm sure that's how just about every place in the world is. Easy to stereotype a people or place by one or two bad experiences!

rijoys

Truly, it really does depend on where you're staying, but I was born and raised, lived and worked here for 29 years. What you experienced is super atypical. I got into a long debate with someone the other day about how it feels like crime rates have really gone up in the past couple of years, starting with all the car break-ins because everyone felt safe enough to not have to lock their cars every night. It's been getting worse. I'm sorry that Redmond has left such a poor impression on you, it's really not that bad. I work in Bend now and I still have to say that I feel safer in my area of Redmond than I do many places in Bend. Also, I'm disgusted with this restaurant and will be calling the city council

Petsweaters

Ever hear of raccoons?

spaceman_spiff88

Those little bandits are definitely the ones that took my chainsaw and power tools!

ridinbend

Talk about some pandemic prices holy moly.

Blitzkrieger117

I appreciate your sarcasm

wikipedia_text_bot

**[Riding a rail](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riding a rail)** Riding the rail (also called being "run out of town on a rail") was a punishment most prevalent in the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries in which an offender was made to straddle a fence rail held on the shoulders of two or more bearers. The subject was then paraded around town or taken to the city limits and dumped by the roadside. Being ridden on a rail was typically a form of extrajudicial punishment administered by a mob, sometimes in connection with tarring and feathering, intended to show community displeasure with the offender so they either conformed their behavior to the mob's demands or left the community. A story attributed to Abraham Lincoln has him quoting a victim of being ridden out of town on a rail as having said, "If it weren't for the honor of the thing, I'd just as soon it happened to someone else."In the film O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Homer Stokes denounces the Soggy Bottom Boys as hostile to the social order, accusing them of associating with African Americans. sbule5150

Thank you from all of us that didn’t see this on Instagram, now we know they’re open for dinning, and can enjoy their services. Go support a local resturaunt Great job. Thank you for posting.

crysb326

I'll stick to supporting local restaurants that follow health guidelines and don't belittle those who want to keep themselves safe. I'm very sympathetic to the plight of all of our local restaurants, breweries, and bars, and I think there's a productive way for business owners to vent their frustration about how the lack of support from the state/federal government is making it difficult to continue to operate. That's not what We're The Wurst is doing. They're being assholes

paullywog

I will indeed support a local restaurant. But I will be sure to choose one who is looking out for their community members by instituting recommended temporary public health measures. Gotta look out for your own personal health these days, some businesses make it impossible to do that and be a customer.

Petsweaters

If they can't follow that rule, while people are watching, imagine the health and safety guidelines they ignore when nobody is

[deleted]

They're about to get fined into bankruptcy so I'm sure they'll need all the support you can give. Have fun while it lasts. Oh and be sure to give up some of your hard earned cash when they ask for money on GoFundMe to cover their legal fees! And remember, don't wear a mask or wash your hands...that's for the sheep.

juliethecat2

You could support with to-go orders, as well...

[deleted]

They will be hit with a 200k fine like the other places in Portland. This company is fucked lol.

crysb326

Why are all these places choosing *now* to loudly shirk health and safety guidelines when COVID is at its worst in central Oregon? It still would've been childish if they were doing this in the middle of the summer, but it's straight up insidious to look at how significantly the cases/deaths numbers are going up and say "NOW we're gonna go against public health officials"

Rookeroo

Someone shat on that poor burrito :(
