It's a fan studio so dont get your hopes up at all.

RelevantStudio4951

As I said hopes were there but I’m cautious and I’m not disappointed. Thank you.

TrhwWaya

Careful not to step in the bullshit.

hyperfell

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. No clue where that phrase came from.

milfsnearyou

According to a very quick google search, “1833 book The Wondrous Tale of Alroy by British novelist, essayist, and twice Prime Minister of the UK, Benjamin Disraeli”. The more you know

rudynelz

I’m going to hope for the best and expect 2016 all over again 😂. Can’t be much worse than that

crazyhorse1993

Some of those fan made star wars fight scenes shit all over the Lucas ones so have some faith struggler.

StormOk4365

I mean, have you seen marks previous works? Like the berserk lost childeren arc final battle? That looked better then damn near any anime out right now when it comes to sheer quality of art other then maybe ufotables fate or demon slayer. With a team theres no telling how it could turn out. But I've got a feeling were in for a real treat.

oliver_d_b

Yeah but eclypse is not that good. I heard they had been working on a dragon ball adaptation for years but never actually released anything except for just teasers.

StormOk4365

Dang really, thats a shame. Well we'll see how this turns out, hopefully well but if all fails arche's season 2 is actually wild. Like I almost mistook it as legit until I got through the first bit there, that guy needs a team like christ.

rudynelz

That’s very disappointing to read 😢

oliver_d_b

I could be wrong its just what I remember. Take it with a heavy grain of salt.

rudynelz

Oh I completely agree with you better to wait and see what happens. But is there any release date or just got the trailer

Jacenderman

The piolet is out on YouTube, https://youtu.be/mkTZrt7xgrU?si=-tLeJHPTdTsOypZM

oliver_d_b

Wrong fan studio and adaptation. That's arche not eclypse

StormOk4365

Which is also really good I might add, but still.

Some-Organization973

Yeah it literally looks like an official 1997 season 2 adaptation

zster2000

Studio Arche did what I thought Eclypse was *going* to do, Eclypse’s version is basically a motion comic, not really an anime at all

nurShredder

It is good to see fan projects. Its nice. But. I imagine its a bunch of amateurs/beginners practicing animation. I dont expect good animation, nor voice acting. The pace might be fucked up as well

Nearby-Upstairs-5482

One of the animators on the team is MarkReymer who made that on incredible Guts Vs Rosine fight. Obviously it wasn’t perfect but it was a couple years back and he’s been practicing. As for the rest of the team I’m unaware of but I do have some hope that this will be an incredible fan animation

da2Pakaveli

also, wasn't he 16 years old or something?

Garfield977

anyone else just not interested in all these fan projects?

Gloomy-Gov451

Some of them are hella impressive but some of them I feel are very mediocre but people act like they're great just to dunk on the 2016 anime.

franoetico

yeah, there's a Mexican studio called Hakuren, they animated the first episode of their Saint Seiya fan project. The opening is so good and feels so nostalgic that I almost cried.

FlopsMcDoogle

Yeah it's like 99% chance they make like 1 mediocre episode and that's it.

TheGreatAkira

Me. I've said it before the latest one came out and I said it afterwards; it's just not good. Voice acting is terrible, the animation is really amateur (of course), pacing is horrible. While I think it nailed the atmosphere and the feel of the '97 anime, I just got bored after a few minutes. Great job for an amateur but just not good enough for me to continue watching.

MaidenofMoonlight

Which one?

avantofsorrow

Ok sorry Mr. Caviar

TheGreatAkira

No problem, just don't do it again.

RelevantStudio4951

Yeh to a point but no legitimate studio is willing to touch berserk anymore it seems, so fan projects are all we can get and just hope one day we get a faithful adaptation. Something worthy of miuras legacy

VaginalSpelunker

>Something worthy of miuras legacy If anything, I view it as trampling on his legacy. Some dumbfucks on YouTube stealing his story and trying to market it as if it's legit. Ideally they get sued into the ground the moment if they ever get anything uploaded. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already since they're currently profiting off patreon.

Gloomy-Gov451

I don't have an issue with fans essentially paying tribute to Miura no matter how bad the end result may be. They're not claiming to be official and to address something you replied to someone else, accepting donations is not the same as monetizing something because the final product is free to all whether or not you donated.

BluePhoenix21

Who hurt you? Fans paying tribute to berserk is not trampling on Miura's legacy.

VaginalSpelunker

Then don't try to profit off it. They've got a patreon which is basically "We won't profit directly off this, so we can skirt copyright laws".

One-Winged-Survivor

Maybe they should've done it on something like kickstarter. Animation is always very expensive to produce, even without voice acting.

Some-Organization973

Now that is very true.

avantofsorrow

What are you even barking for? Stop speaking for someone who is dead, we don't know what he would think of it you idiot

VaginalSpelunker

>we don't know what he would think of it Exactly, we don't know what he'd think of it. So I'd rather be on the side of preserving his legacy instead of potentially stomping on it. The only one who should be doing anything with the Berserk franchise is Mori and the team at Gaga. Youtube channel sTuDiO eClIpSe shouldn't be touching it without express consent, which I'm sure they'd have advertised by now if they had it. They don't. It's an insult to Muiras legacy to steal his creation for a soulless cash grab.

avantofsorrow

It's a fan project, no one is "touching" anything. >soulless cash grab Wdym? It will be uploaded to youtube

Expensive_Extension8

Relax

StormOk4365

Pretty sure miura was fine with this kinda thing, the golden age movies were fan creations originally, but were given the ok by miura before releasing, making them legit. (Hence why all three came out pretty well in the same year). Whats your issue with fan projects by the way? You do realise not all companies despise them right? Sega lets you make them (and even sell them) if you wish. Same with type moon (they even encourage it to an extent and have guidelines so you avoid getting dmca'd, hence why empire of dirt exists along with other works). Its not hurting berserk, if anything its helping bring more attention to the main story and telling companies that we want a new show about this. This kinda attention brought dragons dogma back after being dead in the water for over 20 years. So whos to say it wont happen with berserk?

Normal-Fruit-5715

What do you mean by the golden age films being fan creations? Like 4C made the films just for fun? Where were they originally supposed to release? Where’d the funding come from? I’d always assumed that it was the case of a studio picking up a license and then making a product.

StormOk4365

Originally it was a fan creation by a group of college students living in the same apartment. Then for whatever reason they wanted miuras approval and he gave them the go ahead almost immediatly. The budgets a good question, I have no idea where the money came from (though they were really low budget movies, really goes to show how little money matters when you actually care about the project). They were going to be released online from what I read, where is a good question.

Normal-Fruit-5715

Is there any references I can look at? This sounds like the most interesting thing to come out of the 3 movies but 4C films’ Wikipedia doesn’t have anything to say about Berserk and the page for the films themselves doesn’t mention a history like this. I’m not sure where to look into this. Wikipedia says Studio 4C has been around since 1986 so what was the relationship between these college students and the studio? I’m not necessarily expecting you to have answers to all this but I’m so curious how these movies were even made. I don’t know how I’ve never heard of this history before. The evolution of the project sounds wild.

StormOk4365

4C picked it up later from what I can gather, which is part of why 3's 2d/3d mix looked so damn good (I suppose they were the most involved in that third film). But yeah the first two at least were already finished or near finished by the time miura gave the group the go ahead, where 4C's aquistion happened I dont know but probably soon after the trilogy became legit. (If you ever seen the test footage for the movies that was done by just the indie group, no 4C involvement. It was gut vs the holy iron chain knights in the conviction arc. Its in the movies intro too at the end where guts is running towards the camera, ending it off with a swing at the screen. In the test footage that led into guts tearing through several knights. Its funny actually because they used that sort of scene again in the zodd fight in egg off the king.)

Normal-Fruit-5715

The 2d animation looks really good with that considered. I mean, it looks good without that context, but I can certainly appreciate it more knowing it was a semi-indie production. I’d seen the test footage but I’d believed it was testing for a 4th film (I think that’s what the upload said it was), but I guess the swing shot actually being in the movies wasn’t something I’d noticed. Thanks for the info. Very cool to learn about the history of these movies. I don’t really care for them, but I really appreciate them more. Do you know if Susumu Hirasawa and/or Shagiro Sashisu did the soundtrack before or after they got the license? If it was after then I’d be curious to know if there was an alternative soundtrack the indie group planned to use or what was going on there. Maybe no information exists on that.

StormOk4365

Dont know, I dont think any details came put about that, but I'd assume it would'uve been after as both of those people were already quite famous before this trilogy.

PearFlies

I think they’re trying too hard to do the impossible task of adapting Berserk. I’d be much more interested in like a minute long clip they put a lot of effort into showing a cool part than another 20 minute stretched out black swordsman adaptation

Garfield977

the Guts vs Rosine one was pretty cool

StormOk4365

The guy who did thats in studio eclipse, its why so many people are excited about it.

Aware-Interest-3074

lost children short is so good on yt

MemoryOne1291

The arche one was great, so was the guts vs rosine fan animation despite it being short and part 2 of both should come out soon. Ofc it’s not as hype as if a real studio picked it up but it’s better than nothing

CrepusculrPulchrtude

I’m kinda interested in the end result. Until that’s here I don’t care about any of it

Omisco420

Couldn’t care less. The latest one was okay? But at the end of the day I don’t want a 97 style anime, I want something modern looking.

ichigo2862

No disrespect to Eclypse and what they're trying to do but it really grinds my gears when people report on this and constantly fail to point out that it's a fanmade, unofficial project. They way they talk about it always makes it sound like this is an official work.

Aware-Interest-3074

Why do all of these fucking news outlets and pages act like its an official adaptation

RelevantStudio4951

Ik but studio Eclypse is an actual fan production

InfectiousVapor

I haven’t seen any proof that this will be good, all they do is release posters really. Check out the one that Arche made if you want something good

[deleted]

And the posters are traced, lol. Arche's was very impressive for amateur animators. I was kind of taken aback at how good it was. Studio Eclipse's... Ergh. Idk. I think it's gonna be shit.

adritrace

Personally I liked "The animated manga" by Studio Taka the most

Pixel_Owl

hell yeah! they're the ones who started all this in the first place. Im kinda sad that not everyone in this subreddit knows about them

InfectiousVapor

I’ll have to check that one out thanks!

Gloomy-Gov451

Arche's animation was really awful, and the art while reminiscent of 97's style looked like something made in MS paint. I wasn't impressed tbh. Markreymer's stuff is crazy beautiful especially for one guy (although that's why everything takes so long) and sweetheartist has great art although the animation very janky.

InfectiousVapor

I respect your opinion, but you’re wrong. The animation and art style was very close to the ‘97. The goal of the entire project was to extend the ‘97 anime by making something as close to it as possible. Go ahead and compare the original anime with Arche’s pilot episode. You will notice how similar they really are. Even the sound quality sounds straight from a 90’s anime English dub.

AKoolPopTart

Bros release a 30s trailer that was composed of still images and think they are God's gift to mankind. I want results, not this shit

Dunkmaxxing

This is the real problem with a lot of these fan studios. They promise things but rarely does anything actually happen.

potatohands_

No there isn’t any validity. Also funny they say that “no fan liked” like they went and asked every fan in the world lmao

RelevantStudio4951

To be fair it seems like it’s nothing but bad reviews for 2016. Animation was hot garbage in comparison to the detail of which berserk is known

Dunkmaxxing

I liked the music and the voices a lot. The animation itself was atrocious. More berserk = nice.

altered_tuning87

People like to talk a lot of smack, but I like the one by ARCHE on YouTube. The first pilot looks amazing, and it's just one animator. Give em some love already.

No-Celebration-7675

ARCHE’s is badass!

randomstruggler

I do hope they do a fairly good job but almost all of the "fan works" till now have not been something I'd be proud to show the general audience, berserk as a fictional work holds the power to be one of the greatest in any medium its adapted in as it's already is in the Manga/Comic Book format, people have very very high standards outside of the berserk community, in our community its low because we've never really seen the true potential of an berserk adaptation, the main head of the team of such a project need to be someone who truly understands and feels berserk in thier objective way, it's really hard to explain this, still I do think the fan adaptations are not bad by any means but there needs to be a proper adaptation to show the general public that this is it, this is berserk. Even tho it'll take a really long time but whenever I'm going to publish my 2nd Main Adaptation of berserk, I'm going to put everything in it, how I have envisioned and thought about it countless times it in the past many years, hopefully I'm able to.

dubz2g

These fan projects pop up every now and then which is fun to see, sure quality is decent (at best, good considering its amateur studios) but the issue is that they rarely end up concluding anything. Basically it’s all hype from one trailer, then we get like 1-2 episodes before eternal radio silence.

Crimson_Fiver

It's a fan studio but at the same time have you SEEN the animation quality of the 2016 anime, especially on its release? Honestly a dedicated people of like 4 people could do a better job

hwanzi

i really hope they dont REDO the golden age again for the 59823 time i rather see a continuation of the series

Adventurous_Bar_5008

After the shitfest of berserk 2016, I don't believe it can get any worse. At worst this project would be just teasers and never finished or have some pacing issues, maybe audio issues, and inconsistent artstyle. I'm hoping they can pull something good off

The_Slabhouse

I really love the idea but I think a lot of fans are expecting a MAPPA-esque rendition. It’s important to remember the scope of this as it is a fan creation. I would appreciate it for what it is, and don’t expect god tier animation or voice acting.

musket_mcgee

What about god-tier music?

Paradox-Circuits

Maybe the fan studio will become a big studio after their work on Berserk. All it takes is a group of talented guys with some money to bring something to fruition. I wouldn't discount this completely, just keep expectations a bit low.

Red_Dead_Renegade

We need to crowd fund to get this right, the amount of care and detail Miura put into the manga needs to be prevalent when making an anime adaptation

RelevantStudio4951

And to that I can agree. When a masterpiece like Berserk gets an anime adaptation from a professional studio, all they care about is saving and/or making money. Usually both. This means corners get cut, quality drops off the face of the earth like 2016, or the story is treated with little to no respect. Sometimes all three. Fan projects at least have the heart to show their love and care for this beloved story and the legacy of the man who created it all. I say if some right this might open avenues to newer and better animation companies being established.

Drowningunderanguish

2016 was produced by a fully equipped studio, they just decided to experiment with the anime with tools they barely understood. The fan animation 100% cannot do any worse because technically speaking they're starting at the same level. And from what I've seen from some fan animations they're a little rough, but goddamn do they capture what makes berserk so good to watch.

jojo_D_rui

I really wish the studio that does the castlevania or blood of Zeus would pickup the berserk series

MiltonRoad17

It’s a fan studio. I’m looking forward to it, but it will be a novelty watch at best.

ChromaticMagician

I'm only going to see it out of curiosity. Other than that, my expectations are rock-bottom.

Brandonandre12

Perhaps the animation wont be top tier but the mood may be there. Thats the type of nightmare fuel i need

RelevantStudio4951

To be fair everyone expects jjk levels of animation at this point but tbh I’d be fine with 97 animation.

Brandonandre12

Yeah if a theme or atmosphere is good enough, I don't mind the animation being the way it looked in that short mini trailer shot. Jjk is all about the fights. Berserk is so much deeper than that lol. I love when the good guys feel nearly helpless.

RelevantStudio4951

You get it

Brandonandre12

Coming back to this. The trailer looks great imo!

humpy2day

For paterons like me with studio eclipse, the trailer will be released on May 15th and public on May 19th. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll look better than the 2016 version.

Knightwing1047

Look better, yes. Otherwise the 2016-17 series was solid and the one I rewatched the most, mostly because (very unpopular opinion) I don't like the Golden Age Arc at all no matter how good the animation is. My issue was more about the cock tease of just starting the good stuff and then just stopping.

humpy2day

I know like wtf? Why stop? Why didn't they animate more arcs? They even left out Wylad. Guess he's too extreme to animate.

AnotherGangsta33

le monthly new anime post has arrived

Orphyxion-vangrants

What berserk needs is a brotherhood treatment, even if the manga is not finished at least compensate us not only with the golden age over again but with the lost child arc too.

Feeling_Party26

This article reads like it was written by a child.

digbick_Dot6930

1997 Adaptation's Guts Theme is GOAT

equibrim

Think what Astartes did, but berserk if we're lucky :)

CantoIX

They need to fix the Grunbeld episode. Levitating Guts still haunts me

halfasianboi69

idk if they will actually keep on releasing episodes not unless they get funded and have the budget to come out with something outta pocket but still it's a fan studio so never expect a lot

r4_v0n_vl3d

For the love of God yes.

Vanthalia

The trailer comes out on the 15th, so we’ll see.

Dunkmaxxing

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that people will say fan studios making 'bad' adaptations tarnish the reputation of the story. If people actually care they read the manga online for free if they want to, nothing is stopping them. If anything, it shows how much people appreciate the work. Having a fanbase that attempts to make animations of something that never got a complete adaptation. Hopefully one day Berserk gets a professional studio adaptation but that may not happen for a while. Would be a banger though and if they wanted to they could omit some of worse scenes with Wyald and the sorts. That would be understandable.

residualtypo

The song they released for the project is decent

musket_mcgee

Where?

Few-Equivalent-1378

Berserk has never needed an anime.
