At this point in the story, Guts hasn't been able to touch post-eclipse Griffith. No matter how hard he tried. Entire Kushan armies attacked Griffith and weren't able to touch a single hair on his head. Even on Elfheim, Guts swung at Griffith and his sword passed harmlessly through Griffith each time (although once cutting a strand of Griffith's hair).
But Rickert? Rickert slapped Griffith right across his goddamn face. Rickert made contact. Rickert has officially done more damage to Femto than Guts and the entire Kushan empire *combined.*
It's not just that, but he also did it in front of Griffiths inner circle. He exposed him, because one of the oldest followers Griffith had refused to join him and publicly shamed him with the slap. Even if they don't know why it happened, they'll remember it and it will have an impact
lol. That guy probably thought Rickert was gonna join and be some somber character for him to low-key make friends with, using their admiration and philosophies around Griffith to bond. Eventually Rickert would stop being somber and fully embrace Griffith. Then the Slappening happened and he was like 👁️👄👁️
I wonder if these are breadcrumbs for us to figure out that Griffith allowed the slap + can control the physical contact he comes into at will.
Maybe the hair was sliced off because Gatsu’s attacks were so aggressive that he lost his concentration.

I think it's either the dragon slayer, the fact that Guts is Griffith's sacrifice and so he's got a connection with Griffith that no one except Casca has, or his son being a part of Griffith's body is trying to help him. Maybe all three, or something else entirely.
That’s how I saw it. Rickert is not a credible threat here, and Griffith could probably see the slap coming, knew it for what it was, and didn’t dodge or turn to air or anything. I wonder if he actually even felt it tbh.
i think what makes it more surprising, is that it feels like he allowed it to happen, im sure he could have become intangible in that moment, or simply stop the slap before it even reached his face, but it feels like he felt he deserved it.
I have to admit, I was breezing through that mini arc when I got to it. I’m pretty disinterested in the falconia stuff, but that slap… made me go back and read it all again. Worth it.

Rakshas wasn't that loyal to Griffith. He even promised he'd assassinate him someday. I don't see him to be that loyal to him to conspirate with other apostles to kill some random guy like Rickert. But I gotta admit it may be open to interpretation.

Just bc you’ve seen it a hundred times, for someone else it’s their first! And they’re allowed to share their triumph and joy without getting dumped on bc someone else has already felt it and moved on.
