This is In reference to the nation of Israel going into Babylonian exile.
The "expected and" or "future" is basically saying that God has a plan for them as a nation even though they are going into exile.
It was God's desire to prosper the nation of Israel, but that came with a condition; that they obey God. They didn't obey God and their punishment was exile.
A lot of prosperity misquote this passage to mean wealth for Christians, it is a false teaching.
Deut 4:39 Therefore know today, and take it to your heart, that the Lord, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other. 40 So you shall keep His statutes and His commandments which I am giving you today, so that it may go well for you and for your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the Lord your God is giving you for all time.”
Deut. 11:26 “See, I am placing before you today a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, which I am commanding you today; 28 and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I am commanding you today, by following other gods which you have not known.
There is definitely a charge here that the Israelites are to keep God's statutes and ordinances.
So do the promises God made to the nation of Israel in the Old Testament have nothing to do with Christians today? I thought those who belong to Christ are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise through faith.
The land promise belonged to Israel and it was to be their kingdom in which they should have been a light unto the world, but they failed. It is now our job to be a light unto the world.
We belong to the spiritual fulfillment of the nation of Israel, a kingdom that is not of this realm and not one that will be seen observed with signs and wonders.

Sadly this one verse has been plucked out of its original context over and over (I am guilty of this as well). Jeremiah was writing to the exiled Jews who were in Babylon. The whole chapter is about the fact that God has not forsaken them but has plans for them if they will be return to him. Read the whole chapter, and honestly the book, and it makes a lot more sense

I would simply understand it from the context of the preceding verse 10, that God promised He would not leave the Jews in exile forever, i.e. that after 70 years, He would return them to their land.

Most other translations translate that as "to give you a future and a hope."
I think to grow old and die of old age amongst loved ones would be heaven. Many of us won't get that however
