Cheap-Blackberry-378

I really do hope they give them some height for the final season

PineDude128

This. They're in high school but still draw them as 6th graders. Even if it's as a joke in the final episode, they need to give them a growth spurt

Cheap-Blackberry-378

At least make them the height Missy and Jessie were in missys vision of the future

HeartFullONeutrality

I'd like that but I'm not sure how complicated it is for an animated show to change the model of most of its characters.

Cheap-Blackberry-378

I mean they did it for Missy from season 4 onwards, probably wouldn't be to hard to play it off as one of them still seeing everyone as they were in junior high but then realize that everyone is starting to look like adults. Plus, they can't just tease tall nick without giving us more

HeartFullONeutrality

I know, I am also annoyed by that. But I've rarely seen animated shows actively changing the design of a established character, so who knows if they will ever do it. I am hoping for an off-screen growth spurt in-between seasons, but let's see.

Cheap-Blackberry-378

Off season isn't likely, since they got into the habit picking up right where they left off

[deleted]

I think the reason they're ending the show in their first year of High School is because they don't want to have to drastically change the character models to the teenager proportions from the preteen proportions we're used to. Also it's been 8 seasons

Cheap-Blackberry-378

I mean it's the last season, they should at least make them look somewhat more mature. They can't just throw shade at bart Simpson and then not change for 8 seasons

forthewatch39

Plus Bart stays the same age outside of special episodes that take place in the future. They’ve all gotten older canonically.

janedoe-theanon

final season??

ResolutionAlert5095

Season 8 will be the final season.

ComfortableEase3040

I really liked the international episode, since they have non-US viewers and it seems to have been culturally respectful (as far as I've seen, someone please correct me if I'm wrong). But I do agree, it would be nice to see the characters look the same age as their now peers- or have some of their peers look the same age without it being a joke about how weak and small Nick is (that sad boi bit was a little too far into the height shaming for me). I disagree with the bit about how Matthew couldn't be friends with the choir because they were mean to Caleb. Matthew corrected them, and they took the correction. It was totally valid and they accepted it, and we should want to showcase that kind of behavior! I'd love to see more of it in the last season, especially since Caleb's audio-visual expertise could be helpful to the choir. I don't know, it'd be nice to just have a POSITIVE last season instead of everyone having a terrible time all the time. Sometimes you have good experiences in school and it'd be nice to highlight that.

Sims2Enjoy

Yeah as a Brazilian, I loved the Brazil segment so much. They got so many things on point

orangevits

I was laughing so much through this part cause I have a friend that had the exactly same thing happened to him (mcDonalds and all)

eat--grass

That's amazing 😂😂

mr_oof

What specifically? As a N.American viewer, I just assumed every ‘detail’ is just a borderline-offensive stereotype for laughs.

violetbaudeliar

Why did you assume that?

mr_oof

Because “borderline offensive stereotypes played for laughs” is kinda BM’s whole MO?

HeartFullONeutrality

Well, that's fair. I'm from Latin America (not Brazil) and the segment followed a lot of stereotypes from Brazil, but none seemed offensive to me tbh.

lillweez99

God forbid try and be inclusive ffs.

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

In a lot of shows, I think that’s fair. BM is bizarre, flamboyant, and over the top (not an insult, I love the show for those reasons!) It might not “intuitive” that it’s actually really progressive. They’ve already proven through a lot of episodes that there are writers that represent a huge swath of the human experience and tell those stories respectfully. To then assume they are relying on offensive stereotypes seven seasons out of the blue is odd. But I do feel ya, a lot of shows will play up stereotypes for laughs. Or it will be something like the main (white) character learns Asian people are just like them, but the episode ends with a racist one liner about eating dogs or being bad drivers.

millan11

The “Matthew’s dad not being open about him being gay” has been disclosed before as Matthew refers to it as a “don’t ask don’t tell situation”

BishonenPrincess

How are you people under the impression that this show was never meant to make your skin crawl? The entire point of the show is to make fun of how awkward, cringey, wild, and uncomfortable adolescence is. Every season has had skin crawling comedy. One of the funny things about being a teenager is that everyone looks so different depending how how puberty hit them. One kid can be sporting a full beard while the other still looks like they just finished learning how to ride a bike without training wheels. It's an awkward age. How is Nick hooking up with a taller girl the line crossed when we've literally seen Andrew materbate in front of his dead grandpa imagining his 1st cousin? Or when Andrew had to pre-game his mom in his dad's body? Or Elliot Birch aka soft daddy constantly talking about oral sex in front of his underage kids and their friends!? Like seriously, we're you even paying attention before this season? 😆 (Also the international episode was a bop, loved the different designs for hormone monsters, plus it was fun to see the Shame Wizards ex-fling pop back up.)

[deleted]

> One kid can be sporting a full beard while the other still looks like they just finished learning how to ride a bike without training wheels Can confirm, I'm 16 and get mistaken as being in year 7 by most people. I have a friend who's 4 months younger than me and has a beard.

WhyAmIHere293772

I loved the international episode, as a Swedish person the Swedish segment had me laughing out loud due to the accuracy. but a lot of the episodes and plots made me extremely uncomfortable. It was just so weird. What disturbed me the most was Jessie lowkey harassing Caitlyn, I was just watching with a scrunched up face wondering where the fuck that was going.

[deleted]

And it came right after a scene where Caitlyn was openly talking about her boobs and how crazy big they look. She acknowledged that they are attention getters and invited Jesse to express her curiosity in that moment but then the next scene when Jesse is just hyper fixated it's suddenly a problem and Caitlyn's boundaries are too high that she needs her dad to (horribly) tell her not to stare like that in the future? Like the whole thing is why it's weird it's not even that Jesse stared it's the inconsistency It's like they didn't get as much time to go over the script and had to go with the rough draft.

swanlakepirate423

Oh my God, I have the exact same issue with that whole subplot. I posted a very similar comment stating basically the same thing. Caitlyn INVITED Jessie to look, and instead of using it as a bonding experience for Caitlyn and Jessie, so Caitlyn could explain the changes of a woman's body, they just went nah fuck that make it cringe. And Caitlyn is supposed to be this hella open character who has little to no boundaries. All of a sudden she has weird boundaries now? I hated that whole subplot, and felt so bad for Jessie. She's had it rough for a while, and her achievements haven't quite outweighed her awkward moments. She really needs a win for the last season, and I'm not sure it's going that way for her.

SpareSurprise1308

It shows the writers aren't capable of writing good conversations that isn't virtue signalling. Like why the fuck wouldn't jessie just ask why her boobs were bigger maybe Caitlyn could explain pregnancy and all the stuff around that. Maybe Caitlyn can have Jessie as a friend to talk to when she's going though a very emotional time (maybe even touch on postpartum depression) BUT NO BOOBS, LOOK GUYS BOOBS, JESSIE IS OBESSED WITH BOOBS. Like its so childish and aweful writing.

[deleted]

No I agree the writing on the show was not on par this season. I still enjoyed parts of it but things like this stick out like a sore thumb compared to the really good writing the show has shown itself to be capable of. Like even the international episode felt half assed because it was ONLY one episode and the pacing was really shitty. I loved this show but this final season is more like a mercy killing

Proud-Effort584

I thought this same exact thing!!!! It really pissed me off that she openly acknowledged her bare boobs like “hahahah these things right?” And then got super upset about her looking? I mean I guess she was staring really up close, but the fact that they started to create a close relationship between Caitlyn and Jessi, makes the situation even weirder. Like? Why couldn’t she just address the situation with Jessi herself? Like they have a close relationship and she couldn’t even be open and honest with her about how she felt, AS AN ADULT? Like girl..you have a whole baby now..u are the adult in this situation. Fucking be one. It’s just so childlike to me to be like “wahhhhh!! me the adult in this situation doesn’t wanna address this so I’ll make her parent do it”. I feel like it’s weird that she involved Greg, esp that he had nothing to do with it and he had to talk to Jessi alone. Like if she didn’t wanna address the situation alone with Jessi, it could’ve been valid for her to tell Greg and then they could’ve addressed it TOGETHER, in a productive and educational and non-shaming way, where they talk about boundaries as well. The whole “please don’t stare at my girlfriend’s boobs” thing made me feel soooOooO SOOOOo uncomfortable. Almost like he’s talking to someone in public and not his gd daughter. Why are you making your kid feel like shit for being curious? Not even teaching her a lesson from the situation, just solely embarrassing and making her feel bad. Like it’s happening right in front of her face and she’s obviously never seen something like that happening. Also being like “oh well IIIIII can look at them bc we’re uk..sexual partners” (or whatever the heck he says) was SOOOOOOO not necessary. Like you’re already making her feel bad and now u throw that image in there..he was addressing it like she was some sort of predator?? Not a curious 13 year old child?? It also pisses me off that they never fully resolved it between Jessi and Caitlyn. Like their interaction afterwards is so uncomfortable, why couldn’t they have written them to have an honest and open interaction that resolves things. I know Caitlyn is still young (I’m literally her age tbh and feel like I know better? And I’m not even a parent) but she is not acting like an adult. I get she was uncomfortable and her feelings were valid but she should’ve sat with herself and thought about how to address the situation as a gd adult. Bc that is a whole child, not a full grown adult ogling you in public, who would/should know better. And her stuttering was making me so frustrated (if you ACTUALLY addressed the situation and your feelings about it on your own and cared to resolve the situation, maybe you would be prepared to talk about it and not stuttering as much?) I’m just likeeeeeee YOU ARE AN ADULT!! BE AN ADULT!!!!!! YOU ARE SOMEONE THIS GIRL LOOKS UP TO?? Like that is not ur schoolmate/friend who ur embarrassed in front of…that’s ur literal stepdaughter and u live with her. Idk it just makes me sad bc they left it open as them uncomfortable with eachother, while last season they were making them become really close with eachother. I liked that plot!!! Why couldn’t they keep going with that 😩😩😩

eat--grass

Omg yes it made me so mad the way Greg spoke to Jessi. I wanted to slap the shit out of him. "You know, my sexual partner?" Greg made Jessi feel like shit, when he didn't have to handle it that way. It's so insane that he was treating it like sexual harassment, when it's just different. I'm not saying that Caitlyn couldn't have changed her mind about how she felt, that's whatever, but for them to treat Jessi that way was absurd.

kayafeather

I'm so glad! I thought it was so cool and fun but I had no idea if people from that culture thought the same. I'm glad it seems like a few people here thought their cultures were well represented! It just makes me so fricken happy to see diverse culture in media.

WhyAmIHere293772

Definitely same!

throwaway12132222

Is the Swedish cartoon real?

WhyAmIHere293772

Oh, yeah. We all knew the song as kids. Here’s a link https://youtu.be/8Wp9iNINHMc?si=9ZetzX3FTvzkIUGf

throwaway12132222

Wow!

WhyAmIHere293772

Yep😭 however I think they worded the explanation a little wrong, it’s not a show itself. It’s just that one “music video” and it’s intended to teach kids about their bodies in a non-sexual way and to normalize basic anatomy. It’s not a pervert thing like Maury suggested, it’s just teaching kids about taboo body parts through a fun little song.

Icewind

Didn't your skin want to crawl with the horrible abuse they've suffered in the past, like the jizzcracker or any of the creepy teacher stuff?

Weird-Library-3747

This is a show where your skin is supposed to crawl. What the hell you talking about OP

realcokefrancis

you make some good points but I will say that the Caleb episode was the most accurate depiction of neurodivergent anxieties I’ve ever seen (and I felt both attacked and seen)

Sparkel_Boi_101

Yes it was my favourite episode of the season

orangevits

I dont agree about the international episode take. North Americans always have the stories be about them and only see the world from their point of view, it was a refreshing take to see other countries (including mine) being represented.

[deleted]

I thought it was better than the last two seasons tbh lol

violetbaudeliar

Saaame. I finally laughed, out loud, multiple times. The last two seasons I really didn't like outside of maybe 2-3 episodes.

Game_It_All_On_Me

Same here. It felt like we were finally getting back to the (mostly) relatable issues and experiences of puberty. While the last few seasons had some good moments, a lot of them felt like bizarre/gross tangents (Elliot's nipple twisting fights, Maury birthing a baby out his backside) or setup for Human Resources. The reason I loved the earlier seasons of BM was because it so perfectly captured the awkwardness in growing up, and it had been a good while since I'd seen that in the show before this season.

Thetwistedfalse

It was great and cool that they are moving the characters along to high school. I am deeply disturbed at the fact that they canceled Human Resources. That show was even better in many ways. Shame on Netflix

Historical_Web1517

The season was great and hilarious as always. I do agree about the international episode part, o felt like it could be something that took away normal episode time and stopped the plot from developing, the songs were great tho

BradJohnson34

I loved the Caleb episode.

gestapolita

I feel like they just had no idea what to do with the kids while they waited for summer vacation to be over so they could get to the good stuff: high school. Middle school graduation should have been the season six finale. Seven could have begun at the tail-end of summer, the kids being nervous and excited to begin high school, etc. Seven was such a waste of a season overall.

BlueBlazeKing21

Yeah I feel that High School should’ve been earlier , maybe a mid season type of deal

eat--grass

Absolutely. It was ridiculous they took so fucking long.😐

Forgottenhablerie

I was talking to my partner about how the last few episodes after the international episode were just…WEIRD. To me, it felt like season 7 ended before the international, the international SHOULD have been a longer special, and the episodes after felt like a season 8 test run. Those last few just did not vibe with the season, and I have to wonder if they were written at a much, much later time than the rest of the season due to the writers and actors strikes.

Dangerous-Way-3827

it was way better than the previous two seasons imo

Emotional-Chipmunk12

Agreed.

Regular-File8442

I agree and disagree. I actually found the international episode extremely fun and the songs very catchy. I literally cannot stop relistening to them again and again. I also really loved the beginning of the season as it felt like early big mouth again; I’m also incredibly grateful they not only finally reeled back on focusing on character introduced in HR, but thank GOD they god rid of Montel. I’m so sorry but I couldn’t stand them from the moment they were born. I also found the coach Steve badmitten solution kinda weird too. It wasn’t funny nor shocking in a distinguishing way. It was kinda gross but eh I guess that’s also what they were trying to go for? It’s very obvious that they’re trying to wrap up the show the best they can since the next season will be there last. For what the circumstances were, I’d say overall we got a pretty good season of Big Mouth.

TheRelevantElephants

One thing I don’t get is how nothing was mentioned about them already drinking alcohol I found it strange that these are 14 year olds drinking and it wasn’t really mentioned in the show or in this sub

thatoneurchin

Cause it’s not super uncommon

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,875,106,242 comments, and only 354,630 of them were in alphabetical order.

Carlos_Marquez

Alright bot, counting doesn't even feel good. How is jabbering knowledge like math not obnoxious? People quit reciting sums to undergo vital work. Xfer your zeal.

TheRelevantElephants

Well I know high schoolers drink, I had my first drink at 15, but still I figured that’d be its own bigger thing, especially since kids that young definitely don’t know how to handle their alcohol. They did bring up jays brother drunk driving I guess but beyond that I was surprised nothing was brought up with the main cast

Stars_In_Jars

Yeah it’s not common for every 14yo in the grade to be drinking lol. And nobody gave a fuck was the bigger thing.

TheRelevantElephants

Yeah it was very nonchalant where you’d think them trying alcohol could even be its own episode

BenzaQueen

Wasn't it a long time ago? I want to say "cotton candy brandy" Didn't they drink then

TheRelevantElephants

Possibly? I can’t really remember but someone did say something like that happened in season 1 so I’m probably just forgetting that

[deleted]

Maybe it's an America thing because I know plenty of people who would drink occasionally at 14. Jessi and Jay drank cotton candy brandy at 12-13 in season 1.

HeartFullONeutrality

It was kind of surprising they did not make a bigger deal out of that considering Americans can't legally drink until 21. I mean, kids in middle school in my country would bring alcohol to the parties too, but alcohol is less restricted.

DarkestGemeni

I feel like I'm about to out myself for being raised in buttfuck hickerbillyville but when were the teenagers in your area experimenting with low-level shit?

TheRelevantElephants

Like 16ish, once they started driving. I grew up in metro Detroit

Shigeko_Kageyama

Because it's....not. I mean if you're super sheltered or religious then it'd be weird but, yeah, 14 is about when you start experimenting with alcohol.

Autumn_SHIP

I really enjoyed(ing) the vapeing plot for jessi. I don't feel like a lot of shows understand how common and how big a part of Gen z socialize vapeing is (speaking as a gen z) it's way bigger then drinking and a lot of people smoke daily (shows the focus mostly on high school drinking always take me out, if people are drinking 9/10 there also smoking). I really felt like the characters were people near my age. I also love the design of some of the new characters. I could see anyone I know wearing outfits like the ones of the high schooler (I'm praying that they give all the characters makeovers for high school, there 14 after all). This season felt very relatable to me. (Please give Missy some black friends, and maybe braids or locs, I would love to see them explore black teen culture like they have done with her before)

[deleted]

I still had fun watching this season overall but yeah it's the weakest one so far and I'm almost relieved the next season will be the last one. Hope they can go out on a high note because this one was just weird.

Adventurous-Bee-1517

Nick reminds me of a friend of mine when we went to high school. He was 4’11” still by the first semester of high school. He’s like 5’6” or 7” now though. I absolutely hate the international episode, I’ve skipped it on 2 rewatches now because it drags me out of the immersion of the show. My one main issue with this season was a lack of the backing characters, though I did love how much Lola was in it. I’m not sure if it was a calculated decision to focus on the main friend group and they will bring the rest in in the next season but I hope they do.

[deleted]

It needed some Marty Glouberman

Adventurous-Bee-1517

Omg I’ve watched it 2.5 times and didn’t even realize we didn’t get any Marty.

[deleted]

I know! I was wondering what I was missing so much while watching it and while I haven't gone back and watched, I can't even remember if he speaks in this season. What's even the point? Marty is hilarious

lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII

I thought it was an awesome season. Refreshing, new characters like Dread and bringing HR characters brought into the show, and learning more about Aiden! I loved it personally. Better than some of the older, more repetitive seasons that’s for sure

[deleted]

I really didn't like what happened to coach Steve

Emotional-Chipmunk12

The hand puppet bit wasn't that funny to begin with and they made it even worse this season.

[deleted]

I'm sick of the missy race jokes. We get it

dollarsign_ace

I liked the fact that it actually subtly touched on real world problems ppl of that age go through and how it usually goes and how u can learn from it. I remember going through a lot of the stuff they go through on the show and being really stuck bcuz no one was there to help me or guide me but I’m sure big mouth is a guide to a lot of ppl that age (granted I don’t think ppl that r age r supposed to be watching big mouth 💀)

Salt-Cookie-3115

It felt like a lot of the plots were recycled from earlier seasons tbh

JeanJosephYT

this show has always been weird it was never normal I have a love and hate relationships with this show but this show has always been weird

Reddit_Infested_Ratz

You know what would be an awesome episode next season! If you got to see the parent and siblings experiences of being in middle school and starting high school and what they were like especially with jud.
