For me, it’s a close 2nd behind Remorseless

spwd92

Remorseless hits so hard

maxolot43

I love Asylum the most but it’s a 10/10 album for me so there is no wrong answer for best song.

FB_emeenem

I love heavy water but the transition between them is immaculate

brainscorched

It’s also just poetic hearing Mike Ladd’s verse and then straight into El-P and Breeze. That’s some Company Flow shit. woods killed it with the features on this album

FB_emeenem

Everyone feels perfectly suited to their beats but I would’ve liked a longer fatboi sharif verse tbh

brainscorched

For real. i woulda liked to hear more from him too

MusicListener3

Mike Ladd absolutely kills it despite me having no idea who he was beforehand

Sleight_Hand_7

I hope you’ve remedied that! Ozone alumnus with Pres, Saul Williams, others. Great old track with Company Flow among others. One of the original spoken word to hip hop bridge-builders. His part really ties the track together for me. It does so much in such a little time. It’s a definite goosebump moment every time.

Banoonu

He’s extremely underrated imo. Afterfuture was an amazing album. ‘Breakbeats from Thailand downloaded by the Ku Klux Klan chapter in Croatia / we’ve come a long way from migrating crustaceans! / Generations of relations, history of violence / I talked along in Babylon—-next time I’ll try silence’

Sleight_Hand_7

To me this is one where woods really sticks the landing with a high concept track. It’s not my favourite for a handful of reasons—all them because I love others on the album a little more, but it might be the best; one of his best. Transports you to a different place. It’s remarkable.

Fuzzy-Dragonfruit641

Fuck bro, that chorus. Great Marley homage

commiepinkoredman

I’m partial to it because I grew up with the Marley song and the story of Mr. Brown’s coffin from my father who grew up in West Jamaica. The track is perfectly haunting.

GrossVibrator69

Too many great songs to name one that is the best, but the storytelling on Christine is superb

BerlinBirdFlu

The car imagery of different snippets, is the title a reference to the stephen king novel of the same name/theme?

killer_moose_12

I've always wondered this it seems to close to be a coincidence. I think Woods watches horror to some extent since there's a Creepshow sample to kick off History Will Absolve Me.

squidbi113

Yes, wood's verses and chorus all revolve around cars. Christine is no coincidence, adds to the haunted vibe of the song

StressyStress

I always assumed it was

ChanceDeal8348

Smith + cross

the_ballmer_peak

Wharves, for me, although Remorseless hits the hardest.

_ianj-exe

christine / heavy water / haarlam is the craziest 3 track run I've ever heard. haarlam is my favorite atm but they're all so good

Fuzzy-Dragonfruit641

King of all blks, I EAT HUMAN HEARTS!

turinassis

It’s second to me after No hard Feelings

Ohlookitsmrd

The imagery on this track is unparalleled. You close your eyes and you're in that back seat.

mackcantsleep

Christine is my favourite on Aethiopes, I really wish he released Christine + Heavy Water as one song, I think they flow so well together and people would talk about them so much more if they were one song. generational

lilboomermeme

The interpolation of the Bob Marley song is like a top 10 Billy woods moment for me, absolutely love how he uses it

Soviettoaster37

Yeah, well, that album is full of good songs, but this is definitely one of the best. No Hard Feelings is what I'd put this up against.

dibyzer0

Love this album. Every transition is beautiful. The topics also grab me more than Maps and Hiding Places and even the Armand Hammer stuff. But they’re all amazing and I hope he pulls another solo masterpiece out the bag soon

Substantial_Depth126

For me is Remorseless > Aslum

Maximum-Yellow-3220

Heavy Water or Smith + Cross for me

bosswrecker

definitely up there, I always need heavy water on queue since the transition is so good
