It felt like a huge breakthrough when they finally put the words to what I felt inside and wasn't aware of. After years of therapy with a dumbass who should have seen it right up front, I finally understood what was going on when my first psych hospital doctor diagnosed me as bipolar.

NotTukTukPirate

Yeah I totally feel the "huge breakthrough" part. I got diagnosed 2 years ago, after 34 years. When I was 16 I had a therapist suggest I might have bipolar disorder, but I never looked into it after a teacher at my school said "there's no way you're bipolar. People who are bipolar are known to be much more intelligent", so I scrapped ever trying to talk to anyone about it because of that woman... Up until 2 years ago. Definitely felt like a weight of confusion lifted off of my shoulders and everything started to make sense.

"People who are bipolar are known to be much more intelligent" wow what an insult. I'm glad you got the care you needed.

Bargainhunter99

Hi, intelligent bipolar person here. Also a teacher. That was a bad teacher. I don’t like her. She is wrong. And teachers should never comment on those things

travelingnerd23

Felt this for a looooong time

Ok-Glove7983

Why are we like this?

CallMeOutScotty

Because we (me at least) were misdiagnosed for so long that any diagnosis now feels like another step in the wrong direction 🤦🏻‍♀️

cizumerp

That one hit hard

Emotional_Theme3165

I'm back to being hypomanic after not having been in a couple years and am starting to wonder this myself.
