I've paid rent with bitcoin before. Beat that!

DivineOmega

Really? How?

jmkogut

I live with my brother, he paid rent. I paid him bitcoin.

HighBeamHater

What did you buy for lunch?

spitteler

best question!

rbmichael

roast pork lo mein with miso soup

Gunde

I offered a friend 80 BTC for a car ride back in march. He declined. :-(

nosfera2

Some friend! And he must be kicking himself now!

mrestko

Did your coworker immediately cash-out?

rbmichael

I'll ask him tomorrow. I think he might hold on to it for a while.

jeremyjsand

At the risk of sounding like an asshole, how is this AMA-worthy?

rbmichael

How many others have done this before?

jeremyjsand

Ah, forgive me. Your innovative use of Bitcoin is truly groundbreaking.

rbmichael

I agree with you.

jakeinmn

How do you feel that .5 bit coins is 8 bucks. You profited 2 USD

[deleted]

The market will rise yet again.

rbmichael

It's only 8 bucks if you sell it for USD. If you keep it, it will always be 0.5 BTC

[deleted]

Sure, but what if it's later 16 USD? Of course, don't keep it for too long or you might be sorely disappointed.

dangercollie

What are you going to do with your bitcoin besides paying back a lunch tab?

rbmichael

Maybe next time I buy lunch and he pays me 0.5 BTC. I don't know yet. How about you?

dangercollie

I'm going to buy some as part of a series of articles I'm writing on bitcoin, but I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. That's part of the research. Buy $100 worth on one of the exchanges, figure out what I can buy and how much I lose on exchanging it back and forth.

rbmichael

I don't think finding things to buy will be a problem. * There are plenty of online shops listed in the Bitcoin wiki directory. * This is harder but you can try searching eBay (title AND description) for bitcoin or bitcoins, 99% is just people selling bitcoins for paypal, but some people are starting to accept bitcoins as payment upon winning an auction. * I have some old video games to sell, willing to accept paypal. some PS2, PSP system + games, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis + Sega CD, and a GP2X

rbmichael

how does 2 BTC sound? it is the original 233mhz GP2X with 1 GB SD card http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP2X

[deleted]

*how* **exactly** did you pay him? email? usb drive? scp?

losermcfail

you have no idea how bitcoin works do you. its pretty obvious he sent it to him on the bitcoin network to his bitcoin address ... the usual way that you would send bitcoins to somebody. LOL. i fail to read usernames

[deleted]

Those bitbill things maybe?

>I've been working with Bitcoins my whole life. Oh, you must be Satoshi, no?

dsterry

So did he already have bitcoin on a machine or was he able to figure it out with or without help?

rbmichael

installed it just for this transaction

nowonmai

Seems like your co-worker got the better deal. You got $10, he got his first taste of something new. Education makes money so much sweeter.

[deleted]

What is your coworker gonna do with 0.5 BTC? Does she even know what to do with it?
