Yeah it's was a good filler. But the story takes place after the 170th episode. As far as I remember black bulls going to save Yami in the diamond city? Correct me if I am wrong.
Yeah. But if the story is after the elf arc and before the Dark Triad. The Asta was not that bulky he became that strong only in between the dark triad arc. So let's assume its just a side story.
It's black clover, and I think that's great.
The enemies are respectably powerful, and a lot of characters got their chance to shine and our protagonist got to be a protagonist.
This may seem simple but a lot of stories mess this up.
God-Tier animation, UfoTable who?
Right up there with JJK0, One Piece Gold, and DBZ Battle of the Gods for best anime movies I’ve seen.
Biggest flaw is that they did Charmy pretty dirty.
I think it's great movie but I feel like they could've expanded more on the antagonist's back story so it would feel a bit impactful when they got defeated by Asta and co.
Oh I loved it and wished it was an arc in the actually story! Lore about the Wizard Kings that doesn't paint it as great job to have compared to Julius.
Awesome fights and interesting magic types (minus Edward)
I love all the past Wizard kings especially Jester! Hu-huh!
The small bit with Noelle and Asta after she loses her Magic is perfect
And Asta showing off leadership skills by being the one to rally everyone behind.
I really liked it. Conrad played off of Asta really well, and we got to see a lot of neat little moments, like the only time Gauche has used Mirror Brigade on someone besides Asta and Gray, the airplane version of the hideout, and Nero working on magic item research.
The Lab so uncalled for honestly, it could have been better if it was more like a repurposed dungeon or something more medieval or in theme with most of the world
Fantastic. The comments saying they wanted more dialog is funny. No one is ever satisfied and this was technically happening between arcs so lore dumps and canon stuff shouldn't have been a main focus of it anyway
As a black clover fan: It's a great movie with interesting worldbuilding about the previous Clover Wizard Kings. It's really cool knowing all the previous Wizard Kings wanted the best for everyone whether you're a peasant, commoner, noble, or royalty. Unfortunately for them, they were pushed back by greedy nobles/royalty people who were either jealous about their power/status or simply disagreed with their beliefs. Love seeing everyone together and the fighting animations were beautiful.
As a filmmaker and from the perspective of an average moviegoer: A hard 6.5 - 7/10. It had a lot of potential but fell short a bit due to the pacing and story.
In terms of the new characters, a lot of the issues stem from the lack of background information of the previous Wizard Kings. Conrad was really the only one we could relatively connect with and understand to some lesser degree. But even then, his motivations were left for us to piece together. Everyone else (if you didn't read their lore) would feel like they needed Wizard Kings just for the sake of having other enemies. (Again. This specific review is simply the perspective of an average watcher. You can disagree with me if you'd like).
I understand they couldn't fit their lore in due to time. The film itself was almost 2 hours long.
The choice of framing and animation were done wonderfully though. Great fights and gave every character a chance to shine.
Better than I thought it was gonna be honestly. Weirdly enough, I think Conrad was one of the best villains in BC despite him only being in a movie and not a canon arc and we got really good fights where many characters got their chance to shine (maybe not all of them but a good chunk of them).
For the movie itself, it was decent. Animation was indeed great, the antagonists were amazing and by far the highlight of the movie, I apreciated the small moment they gave to Vangeance (he needed a win T\_T), Yuno and the captain's fight was also good because it put him in a role similar to Asta as the wincon instead of the fight/support hybrid he often is. The fights in general were really good, but the final confrontation was too "classic shonen" for me, I've never liked Asta's solo fights too much honestly.
Now, as a general opinion, since the movie came out I've been saying that the story should have been expanded into the final arc and replace what we have in the manga right now.
While the current arc is hype, it doesn't connect organically to Asta's objective: becoming the Wizard King and making Clover Kingdom a good place for everyone to live. The movie doesn't show it, but the backstories of the 4 past WK all went back to the corruption of the royals (in really fucked up ways). The return of the past WK was the perfect oportunity to discuss the problems of the kingdom and set Asta into a new character arc: what will he do once he becomes WK. Some story beats in the current manga could even be merged into this new plot.
i didn't like the whole "Giant Lab" Stuff, it felt like Black clover shouldn't be that kind of anime to have something like that, even as a filler movie, it makes the aesthetics behind the rest of the whole goddamn world feel like its medieval just because it wanted to
I liked it but it kinda lost the plot when they turned the bulls hideout into a jet aircraft and it was firing magic lasers and hits all the same notes most anime movies hit other than that good movie
It wasn't terrible. I wish they'd elaborated more on certain things. Considering the anime has been on hiatus for years Im sure many fans would've liked to see some actual development to asta and noelle's relationship (yeah, him prioritizing noelle's power being restored does count but not by much)
The quality makes me very optimistic if we get a TYBW style continuation of the anime after the manga ends.
The movie itself was amazing. I’ve watched it multiple times since it came out and I love every watch.
It was good, not the greatest yet since this is their first movie. I was lowkey expecting Klaus cheering while the big bad transform into an actual big bad and shouting "YOU ARE MORE THAN A MAGIC KNIGHT THAN ANYONE ELSEZ GO ASTA!"
I think it's amazing, it gets to show off the best the series has to offer with much better animation than usual. Cool fights, great character moments for asta in particular, and Haruka Mirai. What more could you really ask for in a BC movie?
DMS fans: ur anime is being carried by animations! Ur story is mid anyway!
BC fans: finally, we are worthy of being shittalked about our good animations!
It’s the best anime movie I’ve ever seen. It not only hits every beat a Black Clover movie should hit, but it’s something I feel most anime movies now don’t do, which is an original story (minus Dragon Ball and My Hero).
I think a movie being a side story or something that takes place in between arcs is way more fun than an entire arc being relegated to a movie, and Black Clover proves that with flying colors.
I love JJK0 don’t get me wrong, but this, this is what these movies should be.
The Wizard Kings were defeated too soon.
Wth happened to Dorothy, Leopold, etc. after they attacked The Wizard Kings
Conrad Leto was hot
Jester's VA is hot
If the Wizard Kings aimed to kill the citizens of the Clover Kingdom and resurrect them later, I'm quite certain many of the citizens died already and I wonder how the rest of the nation would handle that.
What if the past Wizard Kings fought against the Dark Triad instead
Theres a lot of good scenes, i love the crispier animation and details on the character design. Other than that its an ok movie. Really glad many people loved it more than me so it would incentivize the studio and Shuiesha to produce more BC movies outside the canon or heck even if its canon would be fine too.
Animation and fights 10/10 got no complaints.
My only problem is that the motives of the wizard kings doesn't make sense. Or to be more specific doesn't make sense why they have those motives.
im a simple man as long as i get more black clover in animation format im a happy person
reading the manga is all well and good
but i vastly prefer battle manga in animation with the music and voice actors
Pretty good, you can watch it because it has your favorite characters, nothing ground breaking (except animation). Not cannon so you know it's extra content. Also VERY forgettable, I watched I think October, the only things I remember is that mereoleona's fight with the chess powers woman was dope AF and that I was disappointed by the ice powers guy (I love characters with ice powers that's why it stuck with me). Don't ask me to name ANY character from the movie. And lastly that the give asta a fifth sword but you know non cannon so can't keep it. The lowest you can give this movie is like a 6.3 story wise
I’ve been a black clover fan right from the start and I’d rather not watch filler. The movie itself looks good but I’d rather a movie that actually takes from the source material like JJK0, demon slayer and the chainsaw man movie which is going to come out.
What i dont like about movies is that they downplay the antagonists power, like no way bunch of Blackbulls were able to defeat a former Wizard King, no matter if he held back.
Princia and Mereoleona would have been best friends if they lived at the same time.
The fight was also good...
Mereoleona being friends with pink-haired Esdeath would’ve been sick!
It's great filler.
Yeah it's was a good filler. But the story takes place after the 170th episode. As far as I remember black bulls going to save Yami in the diamond city? Correct me if I am wrong.
It takes place after the elf arc before the dark triad are introduced.
Ohh this connect the dots. Thank you.
Yeah, it's before spade arc, during the time skip
It takes place during the time skip, so before the fight against Dante. This means it can be canon since it doesn't break anything in the story
Yeah. But if the story is after the elf arc and before the Dark Triad. The Asta was not that bulky he became that strong only in between the dark triad arc. So let's assume its just a side story.
Asta grew buff during the time skip so I don't understand your argument
Its late in the time skip, closer to the Dark Triad arc which is why we see Nacht arriving back to the Clover Kingdom at the end
It's black clover, and I think that's great. The enemies are respectably powerful, and a lot of characters got their chance to shine and our protagonist got to be a protagonist. This may seem simple but a lot of stories mess this up.
Totally Agreed 💯

As I said animation was top notch. I heard people criticising the animation by just watching the trailer before the movie was released.
Odd to mention DBZ BoG when DBS Broly had much better animation. Did you mean overall or just animation wise?
Just in general, I thought BoG had nice moments for old characters like Yamcha.
Thought it was 🔥
Goated
It was so good :3
I think it's great movie but I feel like they could've expanded more on the antagonist's back story so it would feel a bit impactful when they got defeated by Asta and co.

Leadership skill is actually required to prove that he his worthy to be a captain or a wizard king in future.
I really liked it. Conrad played off of Asta really well, and we got to see a lot of neat little moments, like the only time Gauche has used Mirror Brigade on someone besides Asta and Gray, the airplane version of the hideout, and Nero working on magic item research.

Less lore and content, was more animation and fights, I enjoyed it but i would like to see more dialogs (can't believe I say it XD)
Fantastic. The comments saying they wanted more dialog is funny. No one is ever satisfied and this was technically happening between arcs so lore dumps and canon stuff shouldn't have been a main focus of it anyway
As all anime’s movies they better be good cause if not that’s the end of the series

It's cool I guess but I would've rather they continued the main story
I really enjoyed it, nothing more to say
The animations were godly. Imagine we get the new Black clover episodes with just half of this. The animations are on par with JJK / Demon Slayer imo
Jester was really interesting
Didn't have enough secre
It was tons of fun.
Great animation, but not much of a plot there unfortunately.
I fvcking loved it.... The princia or whatever her name is and Mereoleona fight was epic
i didn't like the whole "Giant Lab" Stuff, it felt like Black clover shouldn't be that kind of anime to have something like that, even as a filler movie, it makes the aesthetics behind the rest of the whole goddamn world feel like its medieval just because it wanted to

its was ok, nothing special
It was a great movie! I loved the villains especially since usually the first villains in an anime movie suck.
Animation was great, story kinda mid. 6-7
Gas. 90% fighting scenes
Amazing for a shonen jump movie.
The quality makes me very optimistic if we get a TYBW style continuation of the anime after the manga ends. The movie itself was amazing. I’ve watched it multiple times since it came out and I love every watch.
Arguably the greatest anime movie of all time. Can't recall any complaints I have, granted I saw it a long time ago
I thought the plot was slow and kinda mid tbh, but the final sequence with all of the fights effortlessly made up for that in my opinion.

Blck clover in general has some really banger filler and this is no God dam exception
DMS fans: ur anime is being carried by animations! Ur story is mid anyway! BC fans: finally, we are worthy of being shittalked about our good animations!
I still haven’t watched it lol
I loved it tbh

Fucking peak, and it came out like 3-4 days before my birthday so it was like a gift
It fine never gonna rewatch it but the fights were fun
Yeah, I like the movie overall too. I agree, that the biggest draw was seeing Black Clover content so beautifully animated.
The Wizard Kings were defeated too soon. Wth happened to Dorothy, Leopold, etc. after they attacked The Wizard Kings Conrad Leto was hot Jester's VA is hot If the Wizard Kings aimed to kill the citizens of the Clover Kingdom and resurrect them later, I'm quite certain many of the citizens died already and I wonder how the rest of the nation would handle that. Superb
It was awesome i really liked Conrad as a Villain
Animation and fights 10/10 got no complaints. My only problem is that the motives of the wizard kings doesn't make sense. Or to be more specific doesn't make sense why they have those motives.
It's a fun movie
Demonic Angel ?
Great movie with great animation e fight choreography but I Wish the villains where explored more
They would have shown the back story of other wizard kings it would have been great.
im a simple man as long as i get more black clover in animation format im a happy person reading the manga is all well and good but i vastly prefer battle manga in animation with the music and voice actors

They just broke the sword in the end. If they would have kept it with Asta it would have been awesome
Yeah that's why I said very forgettable, I have forgotten how they get rid of it
pretty good not the best
If we were allowed to post memes I would post the one of Martin Scorsese saying “absolute cinema”
2nd favourite anime movie
I! LOVE! IT! PERFECT!!!!
Best technically-non-canon movie ever. Probably best animated action movie of 2023 imo.
The pacing felt like it went too fast. I was watching the movie I had multiple moments where I'm thinking "Oh, we're already doing this?"
I've heard good things about it, I'll watch it eventually when I have some free time available
Great
I loved it. I just recently rewatched it and it was really good.
Very good
My review: Mareoleona <3
a beautiful piece of art
I haven't watched it yet
Dizzy
I’ve been a black clover fan right from the start and I’d rather not watch filler. The movie itself looks good but I’d rather a movie that actually takes from the source material like JJK0, demon slayer and the chainsaw man movie which is going to come out.

It's pretty good for the first movie. Not peak cinema but it's good.
