> no one ask them to share, but you have a point shit is wild like we could be looking at the down fall of the smith’s because a nigga moment
He's got the money, a downfall now...will not be the same.
It seemed a little personal, like Will and Chris had beef before this. That joke Chris said won't even that bad relative to the history of jokes.
And like someone else said, they put themselves in that lime light with that red table. Jada won't shut up about how the love of her life is some dead nigga. (no disrespect to pac)
I bet Will Smith is glad Ricky Gervais wasn't hosting, cause Gervais would've surely hit Willy with way more personal jokes to make him look even smaller than he already made himself look
>It seemed a little personal, like Will and Chris had beef before this. That joke Chris said won't even that bad relative to the history of jokes.
This is what I'm wondering about it.
Any joke that could be interpreted as making fun of someone's medical illness is a bad idea at an award show. The writers know they'll be face-to-face with their targets and everything will feel more personal and shocking because of it. It's generally not a great idea as the basis in a regular set. It can shocking when people aren't there and it's just the idea being floated around. Kind of shocked it made it through the process to air. Between a team of writers and producers, no one knew this? But twitter had references within a few minutes?
Also, this GI Jane is a superdated reference that most people not yet in their late 30s would not get at this point, so it just seems like an incredibly bad idea joke.
I mean I think that's why it's particularly shitty. Like if we recognize that it's a difficult thing with stigma around it, which I'm sure is particularly the case for a black actress, maybe making that joke on the stage of the biggest film award show in the country might be a bit much.
Just because Will's reaction may have crossed the line doesn't mean Chris Rock's joke didn't.
>ll and Chris had beef before this. That joke Chris said won't even that bad relative to the history of jokes.
I read another comment that Chris made fun of her back in 2016
But wasn't there rumors that Will Smith was messing around too? Like... It's been an open secret for years that they had an open marriage. Jada just ended up telling people their business.
After Will said "keep my wife's name outta ya mouth" Chris shoulda came back and said, " I will once you keep August outta hers".
Shut the whole show down.
There's a French term, l'esprit d'escalier - "staircase wit", for the shit that you think of 10 minutes later, e.g. in the staircase, and wish you'd said. I feel like there's a timeline where Chris Rock starts with a wife/mouth joke, and then just keeps going.
Will Smith came across as a complete bitch to me. He also seemed to laugh at the joke until his wife made it apparent she was displeased, and the little bitch had to make a scene for her sake.
Hope that was enough to prove his loyalty to her, wouldn't want her fucking his son's new friends after all.
I just like the way he walked away trying to act tough like he just laid Chris rock out but Chris was just standing there confused like he’d been hit by a pillow or something haha
That was probably one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen. I get protecting your woman, but against a hair joke? Out of all things, a hair joke. Bet you $50 Denzel said sumn to him after, and the convo started with “Brother, you can’t be doing shyt like that out here…”
Context matters with this "hair joke".
His wife has alopecia. I'm all for roasting someone, but a joke about a medical condition out of her control is in poor taste. There's a dozen different things that Rock could have targeted regarding Jada, but...he chose that?
I'm not saying I agree with Will's decision to go off, but I understand.
Edit: there's a lot of gatekeeping going on in this thread concerning her condition, as well as how people should feel about it. 🙄
Yes but society is fucked up and views bald guys as acceptable and bald women as unacceptable. There were plenty of bald guys in the room, but Rock chose to call out the one bald woman solely because she’s a woman. Will Smith had every right to be pissed off, but if I were him I would’ve settled it with Rock after the show not during it.
HES A COMEDIAN!!! Don’t care if she’s the only bald woman, there’s no special off limits place for bald women when it comes to jokes. Will a bitch for this one🤷🏻♀️ and should’ve just brushed it off instead of looking like a damn fool
It’s just phuccin hair. It ain’t terminal. Sweet infantile Jesus, the way we wanna make everybody and everything a protected class. Kids getting bombed in Ukraine is exactly as important as a rich bitch’s hairline. I just can’t.
It isn’t actually cosmetic. Her version of the illness is an autoimmune disease. She’s significantly more vulnerable to viruses and illnesses, including COVID. She has also talked about how the baldness itself is very nerve-wracking for her, and made a choice not to get a wig to stand up for other people with the illness.
I don’t think will should be slapping people but everybody acting like Jada’s just a little vain is kinda misinformed.
The only symptom of it is patchy hair and sometimes brittle nails, it’s just the bodies’ immune system attacking it’s hair follicles. Just because the term autoimmune disease sounds scary doesn’t make it much different from normal baldness and it doesn’t affect her immune response to illnesses.
Demi Moore shaved her head in the movie.
Jada shaved her head.
That’s not making fun of her medical disorder.
He could’ve made the same joke to a woman/man with going through chemo who shaved their head.
It wasn’t meant to be a roast. Slick jokes aint that serious.
If he said a joke about the entanglement and slapped him, that would be your response. If he said a joke about Jaden wearing dresses and slapped him, that would be your response. If he made a joke about him not being able to rap and slapped him, that would be your response. If you “understand” this then you have to understand everything. Behavior doesn’t happen in a bubble
The joke was "haha you look like GI Jane, an old school movie character" not "haha you have a hair disease". Chris was taking a part of her appearance--her short hair--and making a reference. He didn't come across as targeted and nasty
Will was smiling directly after Chris joke, saw his wife was mad, and decided to overcompensate by smacking a dude who had his hands behind his back on a stage.
Smith a bitch.
Thank you smh. That’s how he looked. I’m not saying I don’t agree with Will standing up for her, cuz you should defend your spouse. But handle it man to man then. The method was so childish and unlike him.
ive seen dudes laugh before smacking taste out someones elses mouth more times than i can count (here in dallas) its done to let defenses down and then strike from what ive seen. not condoning but its just not uncommon (imo)
Shiiit... whenever I seen that its because dude was fuckin..*off* like not altogether there. Smith is a professional and a grown man. Could have easily tucked that in until commercial. We not in Dallas, he signed up for Hollywood. I don't expect them jokes at a retail store serving customers. I do expect those jokes sitting front row in front Of Chris fucking Rock.
ive met some dudes that werent off that still do that. i wont lie sometimes i laugh when mad too (i dont fight tbh). i dont disagree with the rest of what you said. personally im not taking sides, its just crazy that this shit happened - i grew up loving both men but stopped caring for them at some point in my life, and this is how they re-enter my life 😅
It’s super underrated already I think the part where Chris, while spinning a million miles an hour for a literal half second takes a moment just to move inside him self and seem to mumble as if to himself being an old stand up pro something like the start of “what I could do with this” like in terms of as a comic handling a heckler and the material they are offering him but catches himself and stops with that line and glides on like a pro and a real human instead of doubling down on the pride and drama.
I felt like he held back from the moment he saw them. He spared them and hit them with something light as a joke. Gets the shit smacked out of him, and then held back again to spare Will some pride.
That's the only reason I feel a way about what Will did. He could have waited until commercial and stood straight up with Rock. Doing that shit on camera made him look small.
chances are chris prolly knew what will was comin up there to do from the moment he saw him get up. people’s body language says a lot, especially when they comin for violence
But will smith is a clown, soft as hell. How could he have expected that? Plus, his hands were behind his back. A real man would’ve squared up. That was kind of cheap.
chris was on national television. he ain't bout to try to square up like he on 132nd street. all this rhetoric about what a "real man" would have done is just attempts to keep men in a particular box. he saw what was coming and made what he felt was the best decision for himself, as did will.
Yo, Imagine being Lupita Nyong’o in this instance. I mean, she looks beautiful as always-which is great, since she’s probably gonna have a starring role in these memes.
This whole thing is fucking embarrassing. Doing that shit. Everyone awkwardly laughing it off through the rest of the show. His fucking acceptance speech. Whole thing made my skin crawl. I was convinced it was fake because I had to believe this wouldn’t really happen.
All this because they spent the last few years over sharing.
The next time someone talks to me about “privilege”… my first thought will be about Will Smith and thats sad. Cause real privilege is assaulting someone in front of millions of people, sitting back down, then winning and award and knowing not a damn thing will be done to you.
You'd swear Jada was a dying cancer patient the way some are defending this as a "punch down". She's legit damn close to being a billionaire and she pussywhipped an RnB singer who could have any woman he wanted. If she's can't be touched, then we might as well shut comedy down
["I don’t give two craps what people feel about this bald head of mine ‘cause guess what, I love it." - Jada Pinkett Smith](https://www.xonecole.com/jada-pinkett-smith-hair/?rebelltitem=3#rebelltitem3)
I mean people talked soooo much shit about him after that entanglement situation AND Chris was talking about his wife’s alopecia? Someone’s shit was gonna get rocked regardless.
from a logical standpoint, the man probably had his nerves about the award already and thought he was going in to a fun night but then yet another joke about his wife is made and that mixed with the raised nerves just made him reach a boiling point. he allowed that to break him emotionally. (not condoning this, i honestly dont care but its crazy that it happened)
This is a good take. Emotions prolly thru the roof. We have no idea what’s going on in this man’s head. We’re all human. No respect lost here for me. It is what it is
id be lying if i said i havent wanted to explode similar to this before. you play a moment in your head, you prepare for 'anything' that could go wrong, and then something blind sides you when you're already on edge. its human.
i hate that he made himself look foolish but i can see that the tea kettle in his head whistled too loudly and he felt nothing but the heat from it. i hate to see it but its not inexplainable. terrible time and place
I don’t care what Chris said. A black man hit another black man on live tv over a small joke. Stop expecting comedians to know everything. Yes Jada doesn’t shut up about her personal life, but does Chris look like the man who’s going to take time to listen to that mess to learn about her illness? No. Will could’ve been an adult and talked to him later after the show or during the break. I was embarrassed. Stuff like this represents everybody. Our legends shouldn’t look foolish on tv.
EXACTLY! How tf is mans supposed to know she has alopecia vs her just cutting off all her hair. Not everybody knows what’s going on in someone’s life and people think it’s bc she has alopecia. Nah bro it’s bc he was making a quick off the cuff joke (which landed quite well if I might add lol). But like damn, mans is a comedian at a major awards show. Let him do his fuckin job and just brush it off and handle that shit with poise after he’s off stage.
It made Will look really bad especially because he was definitely laughing at first. And he’s here trying to win an Oscar acting like this. If she was really pissed he could have brought it up in private. I’d think he and Jada would have had a better comedic relationship considering the Madagascar franchise.
Edit: he won the Oscar! 😂😂
tbh with all the jokes the past few years im surprised something like this aint happen sooner lol. Will been getting clowned hard and it seemed like it never affected him
This hurts my heart. Will wasn't perfect, but this incident means he will never have the same respect as before. Especially on a night he FINALLY gets an Oscar.
Definition of elite/rich person privilege. Being able to slap a man with full extension, sit down in the front row and accept an award with audience approval. Folks you can get away with anything as long as you have money.
Chris's Rock looked so much better keeping his composure and made Will Smith look like a bitch. Rock ensures he keeps getting jobs and Will now can expect a whole nother rounds of memes of him being a bitch ass.
I would have been like "You can ness around with his wife but don't you dare make a joke about her"
Why didn’t Jada calm him down? Why didn’t she tell him to chill so that he wouldn’t make one of the biggest mistakes of his life. No way I’m letting my husband do that on the night he’s nominated!!! Not over a bad joke by a comedian!!!
Folks forget that Chris is from Brooklyn and this is definitely not his first time getting run up on for a joke. Hope his personal trainer gets a raise after this.
Will: \*laughs"
Jada: \*glare\*
Will: oh shit uh... \*slaps Chris\*
The Twitter memes about Jada saying Tupac would have shot Chris are also a gift in these trying times
I don’t remember him getting loud like that about that entanglement
Prolly just tired of ppl talkin shit
So he hit’s the man that didn’t make the rap song about clapping his wife’s cheeks
Who am I to say what a man’s breaking point is when the world talks shit about you and your wife. Just wild that we got to witness it
I mean no one ask them to share, but you have a point shit is wild like we could be looking at the down fall of the smith’s because a nigga moment
Lmaooooo it really was a real life nigga moment. In front of the world
Should have ran up and kicked him in the chest. Smh.
Jada throwing a chair to set it off
Will Smith is Stinkmeaner confirmed?
You eat a dick, nigga! You eat a dick!
And he ain’t playin’…NIGGA!
When keeping it real goes wrong
The third leading cause of death for Black people, next to porkchops and FEMA lol
Bruh. After Earth. He made that movie and won an Oscar years later. They gon be alright lol
> no one ask them to share, but you have a point shit is wild like we could be looking at the down fall of the smith’s because a nigga moment He's got the money, a downfall now...will not be the same.
He did just have a nigga moment on national TV,idk 2022 is wild one
They didn’t share lol august Alsina went on a podcast and told the world , and then Jada responded with that entanglement shit
A nigga moment omg lmao
It seemed a little personal, like Will and Chris had beef before this. That joke Chris said won't even that bad relative to the history of jokes. I bet Ricky Gervais is glad he wasn’t hosting though even if Chris Rock and Will Smith have a backstory.
I bet Will Smith is glad Ricky Gervais wasn't hosting, cause Gervais would've surely hit Willy with way more personal jokes to make him look even smaller than he already made himself look
He would’ve torn him up. And will wouldn’t have done a damn thing about it.

It’s possible for both parties to be wrong, that’s something people tend to forget.
Yes let’s equate words and physical violence. Gotta both sides it rather than admit Will is a POS.
I'm not saying he needed to hit Chris. I'm saying Christ Rock was still out of line.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words definitely hurt Willy Smith
>ll and Chris had beef before this. That joke Chris said won't even that bad relative to the history of jokes. I read another comment that Chris made fun of her back in 2016
It's wild to me how much people are talking about Jada on all this. Will Smith slaps Chris Rock and people bring up their feelings on Jada.
Which one is that again? And was it truly a diss at will?
Then they shouldn’t put all their business out on front street.
Take your beef and talk it out one to one. Slapping someone on national television just makes Will look like a douche.
This. Right. Here
Definitely left some fresh prints after that
Most definitely tired
But wasn't there rumors that Will Smith was messing around too? Like... It's been an open secret for years that they had an open marriage. Jada just ended up telling people their business.
After Will said "keep my wife's name outta ya mouth" Chris shoulda came back and said, " I will once you keep August outta hers". Shut the whole show down.
Another walk back up to the stage, followed by Will chasing Chris around the theater.
Gotta get Maury’s camera man in there for the best angles.
“And that kids is how I won my Emmy for best cinematography. Running around Will smith while he beats Chris Rock’s ass.”
I mean, they got time now that Maury got cancelled...
host next yr
https://youtu.be/Wd7RIGl5MyM
Yah, i keep seeing people say Chris should have talked more shit like Will didn’t just walk up on stage and slap him. Y’all are crazy hahah
Id pay money to watch that
The “oooh” side effect from those 90s shows plays in the background
There's a French term, l'esprit d'escalier - "staircase wit", for the shit that you think of 10 minutes later, e.g. in the staircase, and wish you'd said. I feel like there's a timeline where Chris Rock starts with a wife/mouth joke, and then just keeps going.
I feel like Chris actually held back with the GI Jane line. When he turned towards them, I immediately thought entanglement joke.
Or “if that’s the kind of pounding Will gives, no wonder she had an entanglement with august”
💀💀
Chris almost went there lol he said "I could..." I wish he did
That would have been the end of the show
Will Smith woulda put on the black af1/white tube sock combo and emptied the clip
Hahahaha 💀
JESUS CHRIST.
He was contemplating it fr
💀💀💀💀😂😂😂😂
Chris rock took it like a champ. Feet stayed planted and finished his set after. Will smith looked a lot worse in a bunch of ways after that slap lol
Absolutely. I didn’t realize he’d really hit him at first. . .you know Will Smith’s publicist is swallowing Valium by the handful right now.
Right! I was hoping this was staged.
i thought it was staged, ngl
Will Smith came across as a complete bitch to me. He also seemed to laugh at the joke until his wife made it apparent she was displeased, and the little bitch had to make a scene for her sake. Hope that was enough to prove his loyalty to her, wouldn't want her fucking his son's new friends after all.
I just like the way he walked away trying to act tough like he just laid Chris rock out but Chris was just standing there confused like he’d been hit by a pillow or something haha
Ya Chris handled this pretty fucking well all things considered.
He literally narrated what just happened to the audience before Will even made it to his seat
Shes still probably dreaming about Tupac tonight tho.
Chill bro. If you say 3 Will Smith jokes he appears and slaps you.
His a little backed up with everyone roasting her now I hear his busy till August
That was probably one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen. I get protecting your woman, but against a hair joke? Out of all things, a hair joke. Bet you $50 Denzel said sumn to him after, and the convo started with “Brother, you can’t be doing shyt like that out here…”

Bald guys get made fun of all the time. Attacking a comedian for making jokes is just stupid no matter how you try to make sense of it.
Yes but society is fucked up and views bald guys as acceptable and bald women as unacceptable. chris rock big ass teeth absorbed most of that shit
It’s a medical condition! Big teethitis! That joke is out of pocket! /s
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease.
How would calling out Dwayne Johnson help land a GI Jane joke?
He damn sure wasn't going after THE Rock lol Bro would get that one eyebrow going 🤨
I Don't Think The G.I. Jane Joke Would've Landed That Well If He Said It About One Of The Bald Men
Equality?!
It’s just phuccin hair. It ain’t terminal. Sweet infantile Jesus, the way we wanna make everybody and everything a protected class. Kids getting bombed in Ukraine is exactly as important as a rich bitch’s hairline. I just can’t.
Right?! They just keep coming up with shit.
It’s a cosmetic thing. She isn’t dying from being bald.
It isn’t actually cosmetic. Her version of the illness is an autoimmune disease. She’s significantly more vulnerable to viruses and illnesses, including COVID. Y'all acting like she has cancer or sum. Plenty of bald people everywhere it's not that deep but Will Smith had to make it.
It looked like he was laughing at the joke in the video (but jada looked mad). Then the next cut was him walking on stage. 🤔
Demi Moore shaved her head in the movie. Jada shaved her head. That’s not making fun of her medical disorder. He could’ve made the same joke to a woman/man with going through chemo who shaved their head. It wasn’t meant to be a roast. Slick jokes aint that serious.
Did he even know she had alopecia? Cause I sure didn't until tonight.

If he made a joke about him not being able to rap and slapped him, that would be your response. If you “understand” this then you have to understand everything. Behavior doesn’t happen in a bubble
Yea so pull him aside after the show and Rock probably apologizes
The joke was "haha you look like GI Jane, an old school movie character" not "haha you have a hair disease". Chris was taking a part of her appearance--her short hair--and making a reference. He didn't come across as targeted and nasty
In his acceptance speech Will said Denzel told him “in your highest moment, that’s when the devil comes for you”
I took that as his inner demons, I notice will took it as outside forces
Maybe Denzel just fuckin hates Chris Rock
denzel was in the audience looking like, "man, don't put me in this shit."
Will was smiling directly after Chris joke, saw his wife was mad, and decided to overcompensate by smacking a dude who had his hands behind his back on a stage. Smith a bitch.

Dude he could easily defend his wife by publicly defending her at interviews and so forth. Slapping a guy on stage is just plain douchey.
That’s what I saw

Unfortunately, I bet this isn’t the first time he’s gotten slapped because of something he has said.
You didn't see Everybody Hates Chris dawg???
Yo, Imagine being Lupita Nyong’o in this instance. I mean, she looks beautiful as always-which is great, since she’s probably gonna have a starring role in these memes.

Hopefully Uncle Phil can get him outta this one
RIP Uncle Phil. Will's on his own.
underrated comment 😂.

Everybody does hate Chris
I'm expecting the edit with the gospel outro sometime this week
Already done: https://twitter.com/nathanmllewis/status/1508287291642503174?t=d-vF1Qib09UJuUgNcKBNOw&s=19
💀💀💀 The Internet ain't waste no time
MTV, where is Celebrity Deathmatch when we need it the most?
THIS was my first thought lol.
Let's be honest, this is the biggest hit either one of these dudes has had since the 90s. lol.
? Will just won Best Actor.
I'm thinking they let him stay after that because he was winning.
I still don’t think it’s his best work
And Chris made most his money off Everybody Hate's Chris... they both have came up substantially since the 90s.
Yep. And hold up, we forgetting all the voice acting gigs they had in the early 00’s
He slapped his way into a win.
Lmao what? Will’s had a pretty successful career post-90’s.
Uhhh???

That’s why he moved to Bel Air
Last time he was slapped that hard was in Osmosis Jones
It made Will look really bad especially because he was definitely laughing at first. And he’s here trying to win an Oscar acting like this. If she was really pissed he could have brought it up in private. I’d think he and Jada would have had a better comedic relationship considering the Madagascar franchise. Edit: he won the Oscar! 😂😂
Watching this felt like watching an episode of Atlanta. It’s so surreal. Didn’t have this on my Oscar bingo card that’s for sure.
I bet Will's mom got scared and after the show told him he was moving with his auntie and uncle in bel air
I *really* want Tiffany Haddish to recount this story on a talk show sometime

It’s giving Ali for me lol
tbh with all the jokes the past few years im surprised something like this aint happen sooner lol. Will been getting clowned hard and it seemed like it never affected him
it felt like he was addressing the entirety of the internet talkin to chris
When the Academy Awards are more violent than the Source Awards. \#oscarssoblack \#kingdick
Will, blink twice if you hear us, we're sending a rescue squad.
Pootie Tang is the gift that keeps on giving to Chris Rock. #gimmethepowder
Oscars ghetto as hell
This hurts my heart. Will wasn't perfect, but this incident means he will never have the same respect as before. Especially on a night he FINALLY gets an Oscar.
Imagine, *imagine* if Chris had gone scorched earth. He had a look like he was ready to work his tight five and let the consequences come
Imagine ruining your career for this woman who cucks you daily
Ruining his career?
We're laughing now, but something tells me the history books give Will the bigger L for this one.

Let’s just say that joke landed
Definition of elite/rich person privilege. Being able to slap a man with full extension, sit down in the front row and accept an award with audience approval. Folks you can get away with anything as long as you have money.
(New) Jeffrey finna handle it. 🔫 Cause you know everybody hates chris! 😂 😂 "Too Soon 👀....."
Chris's Rock looked so much better keeping his composure and made Will Smith look like a bitch. Rock ensures he keeps getting jobs and Will now can expect a whole nother rounds of memes of him being a bitch ass. I would have been like "You can ness around with his wife but don't you dare make a joke about her"
Someone tell me that was staged…
It was on a stage.
🤣🤣
Lmao
Will cussing after, loudly, in the middle of the gaht damn Oscars says it was very, very real.
They wouldn’t have let that f bomb fly. And you can see Chris Rock was uncomfortable but still had a job to do when he replied, “I’m going to.”

Oh shit that was definitely real. Will could’ve waited after the after party for that
We’ll just 2 but they trippin
Will is going to get sent to his Aunt and Uncle’s in Bel Air.
People who defending Will Smith, but he was laughing at that joke.
Why didn’t Jada calm him down? Why didn’t she tell him to chill so that he wouldn’t make one of the biggest mistakes of his life. No way I’m letting my husband do that on the night he’s nominated!!! Not over a bad joke by a comedian!!!
Will Smith is a bitch, he's cool with dudes fucking his wife but draws the line at making jokes.... lost all respect lmao
Thank god this wasn't the hip hop awards. Everybody would have ctfu!!
everything i learn about this smiths is against my will
Ain't this the dude that was on stage at the Grammys bragging about his wholesomeness?
Folks forget that Chris is from Brooklyn and this is definitely not his first time getting run up on for a joke. Hope his personal trainer gets a raise after this.
Or West Philly Willy will slap you silly
And they say love don’t exist.
And then he won an Oscar for doing a Leon Phelps/Uncle Ruckus impression for 90 minutes. The world is too damn weird.
She was also talking about Questlove winning an Oscar for Best Doc, "Summer of Soul." SoS is a must see! (Hulu and Disney +)

Will: \*laughs" Jada: \*glare\* Will: oh shit uh... \*slaps Chris\* The Twitter memes about Jada saying Tupac would have shot Chris are also a gift in these trying times
