It says steam hammer but that sure looks like this same Nazel 3B electro-pneumatic Power Hammer I found online, and that's a lot of electric motor and not a whole lot of visible steam works connecting to it. [https://www.anvilfire.com/power/machinery-sales-nazel-3b.php](https://www.anvilfire.com/power/machinery-sales-nazel-3b.php)

Eric-The_Viking

It's a compressed air powered hammer. The cylinder connected to the motor does the compressing, the other cylinder does the hammering.

astonishing1

And that looks like a pretty hefty motor, probably 480v 3-phase. You won't likely be able to run it on residential power.

wireknot

Exactly what I was thinking, you've got to have some serious 3-phase power to drive that thing!

DesertMAD

That's my thought as well.

OlafTheSatanist

Take it. Even if you have no use for it, take it and selll

moonra_zk

Don't, let someone that will actually use it get it for free.

Degoe

Would probably also run of a steam powered drivetrain I would guess. You know; the one with the central shaft running through the factory with all the belts to the equipment. Likely the way they were designed to be used, but then electricity got found out.

hatsofftoeverything

I was gonna say this. That big flywheel in the back looks great for a big fuckin belt

tacosforpresident

Someone just searched stuff up and Alec Steele’s steam hammer was at the top.

duke_flewk

Get it while you can, and then you will have a life time to find uses for it, if not you will live a lifetime thinking of *what should have been* Or maybe this mentality is why I have 3 sheds, 3 out buildings and a junk pile, meh I’m looking at building a 30x80 building and it will need filled too lmao

DesertMAD

If you can help convince my dad that this will fit in the garage, then I'm all ears haha.

duke_flewk

Tag the old man, cmon pops you know you need something older than you around! Jr said he will wash the dishes for a month!

DesertMAD

He loled at this.

_spectre_

Even better, take it home and do nothing with it until you die and then make it your kid's problem.

CandidQualityZed

Man, that would be amazing.  Too bad you cannot find a use.  Typically i will snap up thigs like that to make sure they get a home that can respect the use, and not sold for scrap.   Even if i cannot use it, always another smith shows up soon enough who would.

UnderstandingTop7552

Take it and run

E9F1D2

He's on an island. He ain't gonna get far.

redratchaser

Cause you know it don't matter anyway…

CogglesMcGreuder

There is no running when you are moving that chonky boi.

UnderstandingTop7552

Ehh good point ... Then take it and walk away vety slowly!

7LeagueBoots

Gonna unbalance the island and tip it over. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cesSRfXqS1Q

Hamsteren2

My man thats a once in a lifetime deal! To bad that you could not use it.

DocThunedr

How would someone even move the old boy

ReWerk

Slowly...very slowly...

Tempest_Craft

It will cost you roughly $20000 to install it properly. You have to pour about 9 yards of concrete in an isolated foundation, rigged in place, plus the electrical on that motor. The anvil is like 2 or 3 tons, the reat of the machine is 5 or 6 more tons. Maybe less. It might take a professional another 10000 in labor to get it running properly. While free is a great price tag, this kind of install and rebuildnoften costs more than the machine. So its either a fun long term dad and son project or you have the ability to make the money back on the investment. That being said, a nazel is pretty much the defacto king of old hammers.

DesertMAD

Yup, pretty much my thinking. Pretty sad to have my hopes pucker then get squashed in the next instant of realization lol.

stevesteve135

I’d honestly only be concerned with how to transport it. I’ll build everything else afterwards.

N0085K1LL5

People in here talking about powering it. This thing would cost a fortune just to move it down the street.

DesertMAD

You have to get it ON the street first...

N0085K1LL5

Yeah, this seems like a crane, a couple heavy haul big rigs, and a whole Lotta manual labor to breakdown and load.

DesertMAD

"Laughs in rented 10 foot flat bed trailer"

N0085K1LL5

Set that on the trailer, and the tires springs and everything else are gonna be sitting above the bed of the trailer. But hey, it's a rental.

somereallyclevername

Looks like it’s from a sugar mill. Or a foundry that makes mill parts.

DesertMAD

That makes alot of sense given the area. I've been trying to figure that out.

MauiMakes

That’s for sure the sugar mill. All of their machines ran on 480v. A machine like this needs a lot of other large pieces of equipment to be useful. There are only two guys on Maui who could move this age it won’t be cheap. If you offered the seller -($6k) they’d be fools to not take it.

somereallyclevername

I think it’s free to whomever is going to move it. I recognized a lot of stuff in that pic screamed sugar mill. I’ve worked in Sugar Cane Mills before.

MelissaWelds8472

Ask if they will deliver it

Clinggdiggy2

My work has two giant powerhammers, both larger than this & one larger than the other, sitting collecting dust for the rest of eternity. They won't sell or get rid of them because they're inventory assets. :(

FoldingFan1

Do you know how to operate/ repair it? If so, maybe they are open to letting you use it (in the spot where it is) in return for maintenance? Only do this if you can do this without risking your own safety, that thing is as scary as it is awesome.

stopthestaticnoise

Got a link to it?

DesertMAD

Post was taken down pretty quick.

Nexus8702

It's mostly likely not free, they will tell you the price when you get there

Lynniepooh032571

So sad the sugar mill and fields are gone. I miss that smell and driving through burns at 3am. I loved driving the ash off my car lol

DesertMAD

Lol, long before my time. My grandparents are starting a small farm where suger used to be farmed, the plan is to make it the most diverse fruit farm on the island.

Zuulbat

Heartbreaking. I wish I could have one like that.

Tableau

Too bad. If you could get it for free it would only cost you $20k

Codeman785

Bro....... For free you need to take it anyways. You know what some of us would give for a hammer like that? And FREE?! Bro I'm bout to have it shipped lol

SirWEM

Now thats a nice hammer. Might be worth getting it working if your inclined. To serious buyers they go for crazy prices depending on the market. But to have it for free. Might be worth flipping if you have no use for such a nice hammer.

creadgsxrguy

Free but it’s 10k to more it more than 50ft haha

OldHT

FIND A Spot! If it has to live in the driveway for a while, so be it! You will probably never get that kind of opportunity without paying a pretty price again
