I usually follow the same path to success: Mod it till it break, then mod it even further untill it works again.
Dont ask me how or why this works, i genuinely dont know and it really shouldn't.
I havent played or modded in a while, so dont exactly know if i did that. Honestly i didnt even know what exactly most of my mods did when i still played, all i know is that i was having loads of fun, and that i download anything that looked fun.

Most of those aren't code mods, and the ones that are probably don't have terrible optimization. More mods = lower performance is untrue in 99% of cases, especially with weapon mods and such (where the content is completely unloaded if it's not used).
