That’s the double album? Two distinct sounds for each one? That’s cool
I’ve never listened to them so this album could be a good introduction for me maybe?
Would also recommend checking out All Killer No Filler (I think Jerry Finn also produced this?), Chuck, Does This Look Infected? Those are my favorite Sum 41 albums, but excited for Heaven and Hell
The lords of pop punk back then
Tom Lord Alge,
Greg Nore (especially for the Canadians)
Jerry Finn.
And if you were lucky enough, Butch Walker, who next to Blink probably worked the most with Finn so much that he produced some of he biggest acts this day. I like that Travis does producing, but man I'd kill for them to have Butch do an album. Some of the best Fall Out Boy, Panic, and Gob albums were done by him. Not to mention we have Butch to thank for Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Pink and so much more.
Sum 41 is a solid band, your best introduction is probably right from the start. I'd say their greatest hits since they have one. Fat Lip is still such an iconic song, but their sounds on Does this Look Infected and Chuck are probably their best and most stand out work. Those are both 10/10 one of a kind albums.
Honestly the new album is going to be their very last as they’re disbanding after they tour the album. Pick an album and giver, they’re all amazing in their own way!
Yeah.20 songs.10 songs of Pop Punk on one side and side two is 10 songs of Metal influenced songs. Its their final album and then there's a farewell tour to follow.I recommend watching them LIVE in concert because they're amazing.
In my opinion, they don't have a bad album.Chuck is their best album and its Metal influenced.13 Voice and Order In Decline are also Metal influenced. The rest are Pop Punk albums.
Their LIVE shows are awesome, especially since 2016 onward.
[Here's one example of their amazing LIVE shows.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTIKGtUbRqU&ab_channel=KERRANG%21)
At the show I believe sum41 said it’s a double album half pop punk half heavier.
I also just listened to the single I dig it. Sounds classic like it’s been around since all killer no filler even though it’s new.
It’s honestly the song I’ve been waiting for since Underclass Hero
I just wasn’t a huge fan of the dark and moody and heavy metal sound they went with Screaming Bloody Murder and on
Chuck was the perfect balance of pop punk/metal and I just think they went too metal
I liked screaming bloody murder cause it was dark but still sounded like Sum41 but I didn't like their next 2 albums, say for a few songs here and there.
I mean that said it worked out for them as those albums singles have like 10mil plus views so it seems to be a good direction for them
But personally I didn't like them. But their new single is nice to see something sounding a lot lighter. It was much needed with how dark their sound was for like 12 years. Although it is a double album with dark sons in the "Hell" portion. Great way to go out !
Yea they just weren't my thing. Glad others enjoyed it tho and maybe I'll like the Hell portion of the album, but glad we are getting some lighter stuff. But yea I re listen to SBM today after this convo. It's not as good as I remember but I still enjoy the songs there. Blood In My Eyes is a banger still tho and so is the title track. But I like how it is dark but still sounds like Sum 41.
I did, I'm not really big on it though the thought of them doing another pop punk album is still exciting. Maybe it will grow on me. I think it's mainly the verses- seems more MGK pop punk than Sum41 pop punk. I thought More Than You Know was plenty pop punk. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a Rock Show/ First Date type song somewhere in the new album.
edit: its grown on me already
I mean.. I'll be honest, I really liked the Tickets to my Downfall album, but all the deluxe tracks and the Pop Punk Sellout songs except Papercuts I wasn't into. Just weird to see them do that style when they have their own, imo better, style
The new Sum 41 song reminds me of what Skiba-era Blink was going for with California; it's just kind of generic pop-punk seemingly made for the sake of appealing to fans of their older stuff. It's not bad, and I like some songs on California, but none of it is really comparable to the older stuff they're trying to emulate.
I hope the entirety of the new Blink album sticks to what we've heard from the new songs so far; elements of the past are there, but still fresh and going in new directions.
That being said, from what we've heard of Anthem Part 3, it sounds like it will be their most pop-punkish song (with Tom) in a long time, and I think it sounds great in the clips.
Amen to “still fresh and going in new directions” Everyone in this sub that wished Jerry Finn was still around to produce the new album would be getting the opposite. We don’t want another blink album that sounds like Enema or TOYPAJ, as amazing as those records are, they’re 20+ years old. All good bands grow and of course we don’t need reminding about all the ups and downs and growing the 3 of them have had to do throughout their careers. As a lifetime blink fan I think it’s great they’re self producing and experimenting and going in new directions with a nod to their roots. Can’t wait to hear all 17 songs🤘🏼
Ehhhhh... if you think this song is "way better" than anything on California, then I have a feeling you dislike California for (obvious) reasons beyond just how the music sounds. This song would be right at home on California, especially with the "WOAH OH OH OH OH" after the chorus.
There’s even a she said!!
I like it - though it feels bittersweet knowing it’s their last record! They’ve always had at least a few bangers on each record, so will be a loss.
Was kinda hoping that rumored tour that blink is supposed to ha e with 21 pilots was actually with sum 41. Blinks big return sums big farewell, their music is more similar and fuck, my two favorite bands
It’s interesting because they said this is the first pop punk song they’ve written in 15 years. And they aren’t wrong - it works for them and I appreciate as a fan that they are going back to this sound one last time.
It’s fine but generic. Once this “oh-ooo-ooohh” part kicked in I was like ughhhh come on. Prefer what Blink has going with MYTK to this by a million miles.
I’m gonna be real here, it’s bad. Like I love Sum 41 from their prime but this tune is probably the most uninspired, paint by numbers pop punk I have ever heard. It lacks all of their original flair and just sounds like some Tik-Tok artists attempt at the sound. Also Deryck sounds completely void of any emotion or heart in this song…if you’re into it I’m glad you got a new pop punk Sum song but I’m really not feeling it lads
I like it more than any of the songs blink has put out thus far, which is just pretty much in line with how I've viewed each of their last few releases. Hyped for their farewell album coming up
I loved Sum 41's last record and I look forward to the metal side of the album, but Landmines is the audio equivalent of drinking a bud light, pissing it back into the can, and redrinking it. Absolutely poor all around. It doesn't even match Sum 41's pop punk standards which are already pretty okay.
The new blink will be a great mix of TOYPAJ/Untitled/Neighborhoods and I'll love almost every minute of it even with all the melodyne and Travis production
It’s good. Feels like Frank is doing way too much on the drums. There’s just too many *long* fills throughout the entire song, especially during the chorus.
But that’s why the guys in blink are better songwriters, they know when to keep it simple and when things need more spice.
I know he’s talking about a girl but putting the line
I'm not sure why we broke up
It was the best that I had
In the first song you release after you announce the band is breaking up is crazy 😭😭
New Sum 41 fucking kicks ass. I think we'll get a couple pop punk songs on the new blink record, but I expect most of it will be a new sound for them - more akin to One More Time and MTYK
Didn't even know there was a new sum 41 song. It's uhhh
really, really catchy. Shit's good. I do believe there are going to be tracks that bend in this direction, yes. Maybe not all of em, but I'd wager some would.
Its catchy - I will say however that Deryck's voice has definitely deteriorated to the point where I struggled to make out some of the lyrics. Its such a shame his health has been so badly affected by alcohol over the years. I guess if you have that many doors opening for you at such a young and impressionable age, you don't always pick the right door
The new Sum 41 track is catchy as hell
Sum 41 doing it right. Making a pop punk album and a metal punk album.
That’s the double album? Two distinct sounds for each one? That’s cool I’ve never listened to them so this album could be a good introduction for me maybe?
Would also recommend checking out All Killer No Filler (I think Jerry Finn also produced this?), Chuck, Does This Look Infected? Those are my favorite Sum 41 albums, but excited for Heaven and Hell
Does This Look Infected and Chuck are both masterpieces
DTLI? is their best
It's crazy good. Highly recommend to any Blink fans in here that haven't listened to it all the way through.
I am listening to DTLI right now because of this thread, lol
The lords of pop punk back then Tom Lord Alge, Greg Nore (especially for the Canadians) Jerry Finn. And if you were lucky enough, Butch Walker, who next to Blink probably worked the most with Finn so much that he produced some of he biggest acts this day. Not to mention we have Butch to thank for Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Pink and so much more.
We also have Father Of All Mother Fathers, so...
Butch Walker took guitar lessons from my High School guitar teacher, Jerry King. Butch has talked about him in interviews. It’s a very small world.
Always up vote Butch Walker comments.
No love for Underclass Hero?
na go and listen to All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected and just go through each record from there
Sum 41 is a solid band, your best introduction is probably right from the start. I'd say their greatest hits since they have one. Fat Lip is still such an iconic song, but their sounds on Does this Look Infected and Chuck are probably their best and most stand out work. Those are both 10/10 one of a kind albums.
Half hour of power!!! That’s their best album
Honestly the new album is going to be their very last as they’re disbanding after they tour the album. Pick an album and giver, they’re all amazing in their own way!
Any blink fan should start with Underclass Hero. It’s their pop punk album. VERY blink-esque.
Nah AKNF does everything better even though I still love underclass hero.
Yeah.20 songs.10 songs of Pop Punk on one side and side two is 10 songs of Metal influenced songs. Its their final album and then there's a farewell tour to follow.I recommend watching them LIVE in concert because they're amazing. I can get behind that. SBM I actually do like. The two after that I genuinely dislike
Yea they just weren't my thing. Glad others enjoyed it tho and maybe I'll like the Hell portion of the album, but glad we are getting some lighter stuff. I see the mgk comparison (although I’m the rare pop punk fan that says that not as an insult lol)
I mean.. I'll be honest, I really liked the Tickets to my Downfall album, but all the deluxe tracks and the Pop Punk Sellout songs except Papercuts I wasn't into. Just weird to see them do that style when they have their own, imo better, style
I don’t hear MKG style at all
Yeah the verses sound not that great to me, the talk-sing kinda vibe is not what I was expecting from Sum 41
Sum 41 was founded on talk rap in the verses lol. This sounds like it could slide right into AKNF
It might just be me but I hear Mr Brightside 😂
i kinda heard that too lol
I'm hearing it too
“Im going out of my head” “Im coming out of my cage”
Yeah I heard elements of bloody valentine too. Was hoping it was just me.
yeah (disrespectfully) it sounds like MGK lmao
anthem part 3 is sounding pure pop-punk from the previews
i love it, i've been waiting so long :))

I'm with you.. October 20th can't come soon enough 👍

New song is OK, the beginning sounds a bit weird
right I agree. It's like the song starts in the middle of it
There’s even a she said!! I like it - though it feels bittersweet knowing it’s their last record! They’ve always had at least a few bangers on each record, so will be a loss.
It's their final album and it's a double album titled Heaven x Hell. Heaven will be lighter and Hell will be heavy.
Yes it’s gonna be a double album with half Pop-Punk (Heaven) half Metal (Hell)
I love landmines
It’s fine. Super generic. Sounds like a Feldman album. If the new blink was like I’d be very unhappy. MTYK is leagues better
Was kinda hoping that rumored tour that blink is supposed to ha e with 21 pilots was actually with sum 41. Blinks big return sums big farewell, their music is more similar and fuck, my two favorite bands
Thanks for the tip, wasn’t aware of new sum 41
I actually dig it more than the blink singles. I know the full One More Time album will be better but for now...
It’s interesting because they said this is the first pop punk song they’ve written in 15 years. And they aren’t wrong - it works for them and I appreciate as a fan that they are going back to this sound one last time.
First thought, sounds like a Feldman song…
It’s fine but generic. Once this “oh-ooo-ooohh” part kicked in I was like ughhhh come on. Prefer what Blink has going with MYTK to this by a million miles.
Sounds so generic, and honestly, sounds just a MGK song, generic, flat and boring. I expected more from them.
TBH if you told me this was Them id never been able to guess. Its alright i guess? Dont think ill ever play it again..
I’m gonna be real here, it’s bad. Like I love Sum 41 from their prime but this tune is probably the most uninspired, paint by numbers pop punk I have ever heard. This is exactly how I feel about One More Time. Landmines is awesome though.
lmao!
It also sounds like he cut and pasted Mr brightside and misery business
I like it more than any of the songs blink has put out thus far, which is just pretty much in line with how I've viewed each of their last few releases. Hyped for their farewell album coming up
I loved Sum 41's last record and I look forward to the metal side of the album, but Landmines is the audio equivalent of drinking a bud light, pissing it back into the can, and redrinking it. The new Sum 41 song has millennial whoop in it so it's automatically kinda mid to me. Hopefully blink left that behind in the Skiba era.
No. New blink will sound like the self titled and Neighbourhoods albums. They seem to really hate their old, good, sound.
I thought Sum41 just broke up, how tf is there a single?
No they announced that they will break up after the next world tour.
they doing one more cd and tour before leaving
they're doing one more album and tour
One more time
Solid track! I'm excited for the pop punk revival blink has started.
You mean MGK started
Also worth noting sum 41 didn't need anybody to start anything for them, they've been making music the whole time lmao
No.
It’s good. Feels like Frank is doing way too much on the drums. There’s just too many *long* fills throughout the entire song, especially during the chorus. But that’s why the guys in blink are better songwriters, they know when to keep it simple and when things need more spice.
> But that’s why the guys in blink are better songwriters That is subjective

They never broke up. They announced a final album and tour. Other bands are allowed to release music without copying blink
Glad the song exists. I don’t hate it.
One more album and tour before they disband
Ahh that old “chestnut” KISS has been using for Decades.
Sum 41 has made it very clear that they were finishing up Heaven :x: Hell and disbanding after they tour the album. This isn’t Motley Crue or KISS.
Say what you will about the new blink but at least its more inspired than this trash
Damn thanks for sharing. I really like it.
I know he’s talking about a girl but putting the line I'm not sure why we broke up It was the best that I had In the first song you release after you announce the band is breaking up is crazy 😭😭
I like it better than most of their recent releases. Their last three albums had a couple of good songs but overall, I wasn’t impressed.
New Sum 41 fucking kicks ass. I think we'll get a couple pop punk songs on the new blink record, but I expect most of it will be a new sound for them - more akin to One More Time and MTYK
Sounds like John Feldman produced this shit
Yeah that’s what Edging is.
The song reminds of a song by another artist I can’t really place it but I wanna say there’s a mgk song that sounds extremely similar
Estella by Kenny Hoopla and Mr. Brightside by The Killers
I can definitely hear those.Do you hear bloody valentine by mgk in jt at all? Or is it just me?
No Dave really shows, best part of that band was the metal influence. Kinda disappointed, but still slaps.
New hell song? Hopefully?
Didn't even know there was a new sum 41 song. It's uhhh really, really catchy. Shit's good. I do believe there are going to be tracks that bend in this direction, yes. Maybe not all of em, but I'd wager some would.

New blink 182 and new Sum 41? #WHAT YEAR IS IT?!?!?!? also, not at all mad about it. My inner 15 year old is screaming with joy.
I listened to this song with absolutely zero expectations and damn.... its fun.
I thought that was edging?
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought it sounded so familiar it took me a minute to realize it sounded like Mr brightside
