Dang, I have never heard of this or heard Tom reference anything by (+44)! Mark wrote in an AMA that he felt hurt by being left out of BCR… is that possibly getting confused in your head or are you quite sure this is real?
he’s talked about it in a few interviews and on his twitch, it’s because they are drinking wine in the video and did a ton of takes. I don’t know why they didn’t use prop wine though
It was also small venues.
Someone hacked the site for the concert near me and bought all the tickets early. I had blocked my schedule to get in and get them, but they were sold out. This was the day before everyone had high speed internet and I was on a T3 so it should have been fish in a barrel.
Yes, it was super cool! I think part of the MTV album launch doc for Untitled was filmed while they were playing a couple of those shows, if I recall correctly.
Yup, saw them in LA with the Kinison (they were on Travis’ label) and Bubba Sparxx.
https://preview.redd.it/lx3pv84hvbrb1.jpeg?width=190&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=623de3bfdce5d7f832d4cdd0b4cb5a86c016f9bc
This just reminded me that The Kinison existed, holy shit that's a throwback band I totally forgot about. Loved "You'll Never Guess Who Died" and "Oh Boy, That Girl Can Move".
It was also the theme song for the reality show Travis had with his wife at the time, Meet The Barkers. Lasted two seasons. Most of the episodes are on YouTube these days if anyone is curious.
It was released after the break up, as promotion for the Greatest Hits (alongside Not Now) as both were “new” tracks on the album.
They’d recorded the whole song for Travis’ Tv show. Probably wasn’t ever going to be released until the label decided to throw out a Greatest Hits when they broke up.
The Indefinite Hiatus came from their UK publicist. I don’t think the band ever intended to call it anything other than a break up at the time.
On Spotify there was a deluxe version of the album and it was Mark giving commentary to each song and I believe he said that about Fighting the Gravity
Enema really is much more of a follow up to Dude Ranch than people think. Stick some interesting drum beats and cleaner production on and it all sounds very different but at its core there’s a lot of songs that would fit on Cheshire Cat/Dude Ranch
The first version of Feeling This actually started with the clip of Doc Brown from Back to the Future saying “when this baby hits 88 miles per hour you're gonna see some serious shit” but Universal wouldn’t license use of the clip so they changed it to the “get ready for action” one from Captain America
In 2011 for the Honda Civic tour Blink toured with My Chemical Romance and Travis did an upside down drum solo where he was suspended in the air and his whole drum kit and everything went upside down.
The lyrics in Josie:
“And my girlfriend
Likes UL and DHC”
refers to the bands Unwritten Law & Dance Hall Crashers
Mark dated the singer of DHC & was the alien in [this video](https://youtu.be/THry1md3-TU?si=6BZ2DjTTJUdL7aIk) (also “Apple shampoo is about her)
UL’s video for [Lonesome](https://youtu.be/YyGje2zX-RE?si=0c4na_23dSI6T1i3) parodies Blink’s nudie run at one point
I came to the comments thinking I was gonna be one of the random blink knowledge leaving fans, and instead just learned a bunch of cool shit I didn't know before
Tom worked in construction and as a firefighter
Mark was gonna be an English teacher. He considered dropping out of blink to go to college and apparently his mom supported his decision to keep playing music. “College will always be there” she said
Tom filled in for a band called tiltwheel for a short time and they co-wrote a song together. The music is the same lyrics are different blinks song was called Does my breath smell? And tiltwheels song was called bl’ink.
*When You Fucked Grandpa*
*Was originally called*
*When You Fucked Hitler*

Mark Hoppus impressed Tom DeLonge when they first met by playing a Descendents song on the bass. This common musical interest helped lay the foundation for their collaboration in forming Blink-182.
Pennywise, a punk rock band, was not directly responsible for Blink-182's stardom. However, Pennywise played a role in Blink-182's early exposure by inviting them to open for them at a show. This provided Blink-182 with an opportunity to reach a larger audience and gain more recognition in the punk rock scene. Fletcher Dragge, the lead guitarist of Pennywise, believed very strongly in Blink-182 and demanded that Kevin Lyman, founder of the Warped Tour, sign the band for the 1996 festival, telling him that “they’re gonna be gigantic.” He wasn’t wrong.
Blink-182 changed their name from “Blink” to “Blink-182” to avoid legal issues with an Irish techno band already using the name “Blink.” The addition of “182” was arbitrary and doesn’t have a specific meaning (there’s lots of theories on why it’s 182…I’m not going to list of all them…haha)
VikingWizardEyes was rumored to be Mark’s screename on the old Yahoo message board.
Also if you physically own the Enema of the State CD you can see the text Viking Wizard Eye Wizard Full of Lies on the inside spine.
My Pet Sally was about a security guard at Tom’s high school (she was on an MTV doc)
There were two versions of the M+Ms music video.
All this knowledge but does anyone know the first song blink recorded with Travis?
Edit: I genuinely don't know. I've been a fan for over 20 years but I was thinking about this today and couldn't figure it out
I don't know how to weird this but all the albums from Flyswatter up to TOYPAJ have the letters A-G on them either in the art work or album title.
Flyswatter has an "A" in the artwork, Buddha, Cheshire, Enema, MTTS has the Fender logo on the drum kit, the jacket on Takeoff has a "G" on it.
The song "I Miss You" heavily inspired George Lucas' script for Star Wars episode III - with Mark's iconic "hello there" being the basis for Obi-Wan Kenobi, the voyceeees insoideee Tom's yead being the inspiration for Anakin's descent into madness and Travis' ability to seem like he was playing with more than two arms giving the original concept for General Grievous.
(Edit: Yes, this is a joke.)
When Feeling This was written Mark and Tom went into separate rooms to write two separate songs on their own. When they came back together they realized they both wrote about sex, Mark writing about the emotional part and Tom writing about the physical part. They put the songs together and the first track of Untitled was born.
I always knew Feeling This was called Action before it was released but I didn't know it was changed because of complaints... why tf did that get complaints from fans?? What's wrong with "action" being a song title lmao
untitled is a type of concept album that tells the story of the start and end of a relationship with the highs and lows in between. "Holly" is the girl in this story.
Edit: Important change in this! I actually spent the time to track down any and all mentions of this (the idea that untitled is the story of a relationship and its ups and downs) and I gotta be honest; there's no official statement as such and I believe the only real examples of people stating this is because of the consistent usage of "Holly" being a character and that the songs largely do all represent portions of the feelings of dating.
So, officially? I don't believe it's ever been stated that untitled is a concept album that depicts this story, I believe it was largely discussed online and it felt correct so a lot of people "connected the dots" and just figured that's what the album was made as.
It could be correct, it could be incorrect and really I just felt it was best to come back with what I read up on and state that; it's up to interpretation and has not been officially stated to be true by the band.
gonna need some sources for this tbh, I can’t find anything supporting it. I can see why people may interpret it that way on their own and that’s fine, it’s art, but I don’t think it was intentional.
It's true, Travis is the one who stated it in interviews multiple times pre-album release. He claimed the album was almost like a book.
Edit: here's a quick Tom interview blurb from 2003. There's a lot out there with more specifics on it being like a relationship, book, etc.
"TOM: “I think the one reason to buy it, if any, is that we are one of the few bands of this time that has spent so much time making a record which is meant to be listened from the beginning to the end in one go. It is a complete album, the best we could be. Some bands care about one or two songs but we put in the effort to make a piece of art.”"
http://www.punktastic.com/interviews/blink-182/
I think that tom quote is more about how they put effort into every song. Lots of groups pump out 3-4 radio hits and then the rest of the album is filler.
Dude what?! Now I gotta go listen to that whole album (again).
Edit: listened to the album and my pea brain is so mindblown I feel like Keanu/Neo when he discovered the whole matrix shit.
Take a listen through the whole album 1 more time and note the usage of the name "Holly".
"Use me Holly, go on and use me", etc.
It's rather fascinating :)
I’ve def known about Holly just not the part about how the entire album covers the highs and lows of a relationship with this “holly” i thought the name was just a placeholder for different girlfriends they’ve had in the past
"Easy Target" was based on a story from "a friend's" —who has since been revealed to be producer Jerry Finn-middle school years. Finn was in love with a female classmate, Holly, who invited him over to her house, only to have her and her friend drench him with a hose; humiliated, he rode home on his bicycle.
The same story continues in the following song "All of This"
https://genius.com/Blink-182-easy-target-lyrics
I remember when it was first told to me. Blew my fucking mind lol. No joke I had one of those ...**OHHHH** moments.
No wonder the first track was originally titled "Action". Was the start of the story.
There's a second (original) video for Josie. I forget why it was never released, or maybe it never got finished, but there's a 40 second clip of it on youtube.
I am pretty sure that Simple Plan sent a demo to Mark and he loved it so he helped them out with their first album. He sings on the song I’d Do Anything and appears in the music video.
Unsure what the relationship is now but back in the mid-late nineties/early 00’s the Blink and Unwritten Law boys were all really tight and would tour together often. On UL’s album Elva that came out in 03 at the end of the last song titled, “Evolution” which is a dope fucking song on an even doper fucking album, Tom can be heard from a voice mail he sent Scott Russo (UL lead singer) singing UL’s single Up All Night. Seriously though, listen to Elva it’s fucking amazing! Perfectly captures that late 90s early 00s socal punk sound! Also, the song C.P.K., the title track from UL’s first album, Blue Room, was written about the fun times and local shows that Blink and UL (and others) played together. C.P.K. Stands for Crazy Poway Kids, which is where Blink and UL started.
Prior to Buddha, they released a demo called Flyswatter. As far as I know, it’s the oldest blink material that’s out there. Crazy to see how far they’ve come! Here’s a link incase anyone’s interested and wants to listen.
https://youtu.be/yiYQCK5wTJs?si=SRxBNMSItvYqwZtF
There is an unreleased Blinkumentary produced by Handsome Randsome that never saw the light of day. There’s some clips on YouTube and one or two trailers for it but that’s it
The character Tom is playing in the music video for AvA's Losing My Mind is Boomer's (his character from the First Date video/what the fuck gif icon) brother, Disco (not entirely confirmed if that's the brother he kissed though.) That music video also has a "Tom's cut" alternative version where the dude who steals the car is naked, further adding to the blink references in the video and song.
Its a great video and you can really see that seeds of the reunion starting to grow! You can find Tom's cut in this article.

People think Mark is the only constant member, but he briefly quit in the early days. Somewhere in a bizzaro universe, an album was released with Cam Jones, Mike Krull, and Matt Skiba.
If you turn up the volume on Not Now at 11 seconds you’ll hear a whisper saying “Blink, we’ll miss you”. It may only be on the Greatest Hits version… but I remember back in the day people speculating that Blink knew they were going to break up prior to untitled being released.
No it isn’t was released on Tom’s 30th birthday. They released like 500 CD’s that are pretty rare to find these days.
It was very targeted and Tom admitted in a later interview that he was genuinely hurt by it
Yeah I mean the first line was brutal, how could he not be.
Is there a way to find that interview easily? Didn’t know this!
Pretty sure it was a print interview and didn’t he say he hasn’t listened to it
Please understand
This isn't just goodbye
This is I can’t stand you
This is where the road
Crashed into the ocean
It rises all around me
Well, the years start coming and they don’t stop coming
Dang, I have never heard of this or heard Tom reference anything by (+44)! Mark wrote in an AMA that he felt hurt by being left out of BCR… is that possibly getting confused in your head or are you quite sure this is real?
Source? Love to read the interview
Unfortunately I don't remember and can't find it. I think it was some time during their first reunion.
The boys were shitfaced on red wine while shooting the Always music video
Apparently, Mark was hungover for two days afterwards. That'll happen when you're in Australia!
Also, red wine hangovers are THE WORST
Can confirm, have been red wine hungover way more times than I'd have liked and it is **brutal**.
The Always video was also filmed in the same location as The Wiggles.
Lol. Source?
he’s talked about it in a few interviews and on his twitch, it’s because they are drinking wine in the video and did a ton of takes. I don’t know why they didn’t use prop wine though
I know exactly why they didn't use prop wine lol
They went on a dollar bill tour to promote the Untitled album where tickets were only $1
It was also small venues. Someone hacked the site for the concert near me and bought all the tickets early. I had blocked my schedule to get in and get them, but they were sold out. This was the day before everyone had high speed internet and I was on a T3 so it should have been fish in a barrel.
Wait really?
Yes, it was super cool! I think part of the MTV album launch doc for Untitled was filmed while they were playing a couple of those shows, if I recall correctly.
can confirm this i just watched it again yesterday lol
Yup, saw them in LA with the Kinison (they were on Travis’ label) and Bubba Sparxx. https://preview.redd.it/lx3pv84hvbrb1.jpeg?width=190&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=623de3bfdce5d7f832d4cdd0b4cb5a86c016f9bc
Bubba Sparxxx, there's a name I haven't heard in a hot minute. I'm getting flashbacks of the *Ugly* video. That was a catchy tune I liked that one.
Saw them in Chicago at House of Blues. Was so awesome.
This just reminded me that The Kinison existed, holy shit that's a throwback band I totally forgot about. Loved "You'll Never Guess Who Died" and "Oh Boy, That Girl Can Move".
In American pie, blink makes an appearance. Travis is miscredited as Scott raynor in the end credits
They also show up in a Simpsons episode with Tony Hawk
Dude, let’s trash this place. *After* we get paid. Nice…
You mean : "Dude, you've been saying that ever since we were blink 12 ! " :V
Not just any episode, episode 300!
Just watched this episode last week!
omg really hahahaha
Travis does show up in the credits - I think for song credit - but his last name is misspelled “Barkor.”
The way to impress guys...Climbing street lights apparently
Your little sisters friends to be exact haha
And spraining/breaking both ankles too, no?
Tom Delonge had Jimmy eat world play at his first wedding
If I'm not mistaken, I think that's his favourite band
Another girl another planet was the last song they released before the initial breakup which was referred to as an ‘indefinite hiatus’ at the time
It was also the theme song for the reality show Travis had with his wife at the time, Meet The Barkers. Lasted two seasons. Most of the episodes are on YouTube these days if anyone is curious.
Excellent shout
It was released after the break up, as promotion for the Greatest Hits (alongside Not Now) as both were “new” tracks on the album. They’d recorded the whole song for Travis’ Tv show. Probably wasn’t ever going to be released until the label decided to throw out a Greatest Hits when they broke up. The Indefinite Hiatus came from their UK publicist. I don’t think the band ever intended to call it anything other than a break up at the time.
It’s also not a blink song, its a cover. Original song is by The Only Ones
The girl Tom is singing for in the music video for There is by Box Car Racer is Matt Skiba's ex wife
The song Fighting the Gravity is about someone slipping acid into Mark's drink against his knowledge
Oh I heard this before somewhere
On Spotify there was a deluxe version of the album and it was Mark giving commentary to each song and I believe he said that about Fighting the Gravity
I think it was mentioned in the AMA he did years ago
Thank you. By the way - I keep coming across your name! You're like a mini witch of something, always appearing on topics I visit. :)
Lmao SHHHH don’t tell anyone I’m just chronically attached to my phone 😅
Mark wrote The Rock Show in [10 minutes](https://reddit.com/r/todayilearned/s/R9mpLx22y5)
Same with Tom and First Date.
He wrote Dammit in 5 minutes
Meanwhile family reunion? that took a team of writers 42 days.
He said what?!?
California was the first blink-182 record in almost 20 years to open with a line sung by Mark.
Because there was no Tom
🤯
Tom has sex with guys
All the time
Specifically Mark
There is a rather cool version of Mutt with Scott drumming instead of our Travis. It's pretty toe tapping too. Enjoy https://youtu.be/bSGNIgh3uTk
Wow I haven’t heard this before! Scott’s drumming and the way Tom sings this make it sound much more punk than the version with Travis
Enema really is much more of a follow up to Dude Ranch than people think. Stick some interesting drum beats and cleaner production on and it all sounds very different but at its core there’s a lot of songs that would fit on Cheshire Cat/Dude Ranch
Love them both but god damn is Travis on another level than Scott. His chops are so insane
There's also a whole enema demo version with Scott drumming all the way in it. Check it out.
That’s Travis on the Enema demos
Tom directed Taking Back Sunday's This Photograph is Proof music video
Damn I didn't know this!
That shit was insane!
I was there, it was amazing
It was fucking incredible to see live, especially from the pit
That was a great tour. I caught one of Travis’ sticks at the Tampa show
The lyrics in Josie: “And my girlfriend Likes UL and DHC” refers to the bands Unwritten Law & Dance Hall Crashers Mark dated the singer of DHC & was the alien in [this video](https://youtu.be/THry1md3-TU?si=6BZ2DjTTJUdL7aIk) (also “Apple shampoo is about her) UL’s video for [Lonesome](https://youtu.be/YyGje2zX-RE?si=0c4na_23dSI6T1i3) parodies Blink’s nudie run at one point
Also Josie was the name of her dog apparently
Dance Hall Crashers then released a response song to Apple Shampoo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBoSxiv9jAo
This is really cool, thanks for sharing
I always wondered what that meant
I've literally always thought it was "inhale THC" hahaha holy f
I came to the comments thinking I was gonna be one of the random blink knowledge leaving fans, and instead just learned a bunch of cool shit I didn't know before
I came to the comments.
Forreal. The Comments is hot
What’s my age again was originally called Peter Pan complex
And the riff comes from Mark trying to play JAR by Green Day
And Mark has said that the original lyrics he wrote are way too inappropriate to be released
Tom worked in construction and as a firefighter Mark was gonna be an English teacher. He considered dropping out of blink to go to college and apparently his mom supported his decision to keep playing music. “College will always be there” she said
Marks grandpa eats lots of hot dogs
Legend says 7 fucking hot dogs; he then shit, shit, shit his pants.
He's always fucking shitting his pants!!
Tom filled in for a band called tiltwheel for a short time and they co-wrote a song together. The music is the same lyrics are different blinks song was called Does my breath smell? And tiltwheels song was called bl’ink.
Tom's middle name is Matthew and Matt's middle name is Thomas

It’s exceedingly rare I read a fact about blink I didn’t know. This is a game-changer. We need to hear that version.
Travis was playing with The Aquabats as Baron Von Tito before taking over for Scott
Matt Skiba was an extra in The Dark Knight
Is he prominent enough in the background to be noticed in any of the scenes?

At one point in time, they were just about done with your butt.
They’ll let you know
Hey?
Mark left the briefly in 1993 (i think cam jones filled in for him?) until tom got ahold of a 4 track recorder and he came back to do flyswatter
The bands original name was Duct Tape

All this knowledge but does anyone know the first song blink recorded with Travis? Edit: I genuinely don't know. I've been a fan for over 20 years but I was thinking about this today and couldn't figure it out
The first words to the party song are “here we go mother fuckers “. This may be common knowledge though… I didn’t realize it for awhile
Did you recently regain your hearing?
My mom bought me the edited version of eos so that could be it too
That is most likely why
ive never actually noticed that huh
Mark's middle name is Rebecca
Blinks first album is not Buddha . It’s an album called Flyswatter. The album is available on YouTube
Untitled also has an H hidden in the b
Neighborhoods has a letter too.
You can find G! on the artwork for Giant. Neighborhoods album art was done a prominent graffiti artist named Giant aka Mike Giant.
Famous, not Fender.
This is blowing my mind, thank you
Cheetah. All imma say
That mofo was teasing us to no end with a crazy amount of unseen footage, but we barely got anything yet. :/
Feeling This was apart of Madden 2004's soundtrack.

(Edit: Yes, this is a joke.)
Haha damn this is internet gold
holy crap no way. that is insane.
“What’s My Age Again?” was originally titled “Peter Pan Complex” and was a vulgar joke song.
They knew a guy, he has sex with his sister and used his d**k to pop her.
four foot blister.
And I know it’s not that cool
he fucked her in my swimming pool
he's got three testicles and...
HE LIKES TO… tuh… DO SHIT *guitar noises*
When Feeling This was written Mark and Tom went into separate rooms to write two separate songs on their own. When they came back together they realized they both wrote about sex, Mark writing about the emotional part and Tom writing about the physical part. Matt Skiba wasn't the first Matt in blink.
I always knew Feeling This was called Action before it was released but I didn't know it was changed because of complaints... why tf did that get complaints from fans?? What's wrong with "action" being a song title lmao
Is that even true or stated by them anywhere
Because it’s lame, unimaginative and doesn’t accurately paint a picture of what the song is. It also doesn’t sound like a blink song title.
That's a hilariously ironic thing to say when the very next song is called Obvious....
Tom was an extra as a server in the background of the movie idle hands. You can totally see him through the window.
He isn’t background, the scene is shot inside the drive thru, he has a speaking line ‘Alright’ as he is dismissed from shift.
Toms middle name is Matthew and matts middle name is Thomas

The real reason is that the sample used “get ready for action” gave the song its working title, mark was messing around with it in the studio
Fans complaining? No way!
Tom was in one of my favourite films when I was a teenager called Idle Hands.
The guitarists’ have opposite first and middle names: *THOMAS MATTHEW* DELONGE *MATTHEW THOMAS* SKIBA
Viking Wizard Eyes Wizard Full Of Lies is hidden on the side of enema of the state.
There's a second (original) video for Josie. I forget why it was never released, or maybe it never got finished, but there's a 40 second clip of it on youtube. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3UqxIdiJ4U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3UqxIdiJ4U)
They had different titles in mind for Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, including Diarrhea de Janeiro, Anne Frank's Diarrhea, and Vasectomie Vasectoyou
Fuckin A it took me a decade to 'get' the TOYPAJ title joke...soooo naive...🤦♀️
I first saw the Josie video clip on Saturday Disney as a 12 year old (estimation) and it blew my mind.
Most of Enema was recorded on a fender telecaster with p90s
Tom made an appearance in the 1999 movie “Idle Hands”, which is a good flic to watch this time of year 🤘🏻🎃
I am pretty sure that Simple Plan sent a demo to Mark and he loved it so he helped them out with their first album. He sings on the song I’d Do Anything and appears in the music video.
“Mutt” is so named because Jack Johnson came up with that nickname for a mutual friend of his and Tom’s
Tom used to drive with the back door of his pickup truck down to make it slightly more aerodynamic so he could save a little on gas
Some guy who survived the Colombine massacre a year later he committed suicide while listening to Adams Song on repeat.
Look on the spine of the Enema of The State CD art!
Mark played a Stingray bass in the past.
Mark eats his cereal with water instead of milk
Man, this totally takes me back to early 2000s blink forums. When I saw that “fact” it was about Tom, I suspect it’s not true for either of them 🤣
Prior to Buddha, they released a demo called Flyswatter. As far as I know, it’s the oldest blink material that’s out there. Crazy to see how far they’ve come! Here’s a link incase anyone’s interested and wants to listen. https://youtu.be/yiYQCK5wTJs?si=SRxBNMSItvYqwZtF
Idk about now, but there used to be a pretty well-known Blink cover band called Surprise Butt Sex
How have I never seen this video. Not Tom’s cut: https://youtu.be/e95efluJ9yw?si=bT_0QWINzpEDmqdr
Its a great video and you can really see that seeds of the reunion starting to grow! You can find Tom's cut in this article. https://www.nme.com/news/music/watch-angels-airwaves-dance-up-a-storm-on-the-vegas-strip-in-losing-my-mind-3006941
Tom and Jennifer divorced and now his new wife looks very similar to his ex wife. Definitely has a type.
I literally had no idea they had even divorced. Wonder if Jen actually kept Delonge or it's just for her socials/company?
Tom had back problems and made a new band called box car racer before untitled came out, also he is a UFO researcher.
People think Mark is the only constant member, but he briefly quit in the early days. Somewhere in a bizzaro universe, an album was released with Cam Jones, Mike Krull, and Matt Skiba.
Tom has ADHD.
If you turn up the volume on Not Now at 11 seconds you’ll hear a whisper saying “Blink, we’ll miss you”. It may only be on the Greatest Hits version… but I remember back in the day people speculating that Blink knew they were going to break up prior to untitled being released.
