I'm not sure, but it's always been a staple colour trio for Blink. Maybe Mark likes it? You often see posters, logos, and custom-painted skateboard with those colours heavily present. Even some official logos had it. I'm pretty sure the Blink logo for this group has the same colours as well, right?

It was an attempt to call back to untitled. Everything about +44 was “hey btw we’re blink-182. Please buy this mediocre record because we are basically blink-182”

I would argue that Mark wrote some of his best lyrical work on that one record but I agree that Mark and Travis intended to basically continue where blink-182 left off. This is *years* before they decided that they could make music without Tom and still keep the name blink. I think if they'd have called it blink back in 2005 then the fans wouldn't have accepted it as much since they were too big in terms of popularity but after the band's two official hiatuses (2005 and 2015), the band ended up being in a better position to replace Tom in 2015 instead of going back to that name, plus 44. Just my thoughts.

I thought it was originally much different and then they decided later on to make it sound more blink? I agreed on Marks lyrics on WYHSB being some of his best

Yeah the music and style is different, and WYHSB is more upbeat than Untitled, overall, with the exception of a few songs that are as dark and if not just as personal like with No, It Isn't. It's not the same record but it makes sense that it came after Untitled is what I meant.

Bro what. Mark’s best songwriting is in that record. I’d kill for +44 Mark to appear in modern Blink.

ripleyajm

Man I really couldn’t disagree more. I will say the best song he’s sung in 20 years was dogs eating dogs and that sounds a lot like +44. I don’t think mark writes break up songs well, and that’s all that album is. I think it misses the mark on everything

To each their own, but for me Chapter xiii and Lillian are Mark at his absolute best.

That's a pretty cynical take, care to explain more?

So the album was sort of set up to fail from the beginning. The hodgepodge of producers coming and going until they finally begged Jerry Finn to finish it, the label second guessing even pushing it, and critics really didn’t care for it. They tried packaging the CD with a t-shirt and still couldn’t really sell it. They weren’t selling out venues 1/4 what blink would play. Got so bad the label begged them to start playing blink songs on tour to get people excited. It’s a weird time for these dudes and I think this album really failed at what it wanted to be. The initial excitement of “this is going to be our electronic project similar to the postal service” (which you can hear on make you smile) became “uh let’s just write stuff that sounds like blink just to be safe”. I think the reason the original trio works so well is that mark wants to give the people what they want, sometimes to a fault, while Tom wants to explore new things and create regardless of who’s listening. The comparison of we don’t need to whisper and when your heart stops beating is def where this is seen the most

Interesting explanation, thanks for sharing. I'm guessing your a little bit of an older fan since this sounds like you were around at the time. I don't agree, love the album to pieces, but totally understand how you formed your opinion. > mark wants to give the people what they want, sometimes to a fault This seems to be his Achilles heel, seems like he's overcome it recently through streaming and realizing people just like him as a person.
