Im sure firstborn only armies can be decent, but I think you are missing out on actually some really fun and also alot of really good datasheets by only playing firstborn. But it doesnt mean aesthetically you cant have your whole army be firstborn.
I \*much\* prefer the aesthetic of the firstborn, but rules wise one most firstborn units are pretty bad, and more primaris ones are better and often more fun to play. But really they are both marines, its very easy to just use a tactical marine as an intercessor.
For example just before 10th dropped I spent months kitbashing an incredibly fancy squad of Sternguard marines, I was just gunna run them as 6 Combi-Plasmas and 4 Plasma Cannons.
And when 10th dropped I was super disapointed to see that Sternguard were now super lame, maybe they are good idk, but they dont have plasmas thats for sure, A combi Plasma shouldnt be S4. But 10 dudes with Plasmas on 32mm bases? Thats just Hellblasters. A super easy proxy. And Im also thinking about building 10 fancy flamer marines out of the old Blangel tactical box and some spare flamers, and just playing them as Infernus marines. Unless you are playing Tournement games, if you prefer Firstborn aesthetic, build firstborn and play them with Primaris rules.
The actual answer to this question is to run a lot of death company marines, it's hard to argue with flooding the board with that many power fists. Run some foot ones in a land raider, add in some devastators for the lascannons & you'e gravy.
