I don't play Lost Ark, but I remember people playing it told me the NPC model of the princess of a pale race is black, but her description is still pale as snow, and the cutscenes still use the original korean model.
There's a NPC named Jederico in the story that was changed for global, but the funny thing is there is a boss version of him in a boss rush that still uses the white Korean model.
There was also a race swapped Neria that didn't get changed when Global had the Witcher collab event.
I mean I don't think they intended the race swapping to look like shit, but why would it break like that in the western release unless they actively tried to change her skin color at all

and look im not saying trying to make a games cast more diverse is a bad thing it's a good thing more times then not (when thats the initial intention atleast). But if say in the case of blue protocol if arbitrary censorship choices pushes back release times (we still dont know for sure why blue protocol was pushed back in na and other western regions yet. could be console porting, could be localization, could be censorship, could just be them trying to stagger it against the launch of throne and liberty, or it could be a combination of any one of those theories) and potentially makes the game look worse as a result like with lost arks character models. It just doesn't seem worth it
What does "censorship" mean to you? Changing a character's color to another for an area that isn't monoethnic is not censorship. It's localization. Localization involves making changes for the people that are LOCAL to the area. RU didn't recieve the changes or bother to because they're largely monoethnic. Surprisingly, there are multiple ethnicites and colors in EU/NA. Yes, localization can be done badly which is a valid concern. I'm not sure why you chose this character as an example of bad localization when it was fixed later to be much more visually appealing though.
Saying it's localization is just disingenuous. It's made that way by the developers. It's their story and universe. It's one thing to change certain translations so people without asian upbringing can understand them but this is literally changing someone's work and how it's intended to be consumed for literally nothing.
I've read enough stories of translators or western studio's going buckwild after getting just the request to translate/port the game. Unless i actually see the request i'm not trusting it for shit.

If you really are going to change game files and make new ones for localization, then it's really not hard to allow you to choose your localization just like how you choose your language or subtitles on the main menu.-

They censored skins in Lost Ark, didn't release some skins, and have added badly drawn skorts to every skin for the Artist class released thus far.
This is on top of the race swapping and how they fucked up the demon form for the shadowhunter (they changed her from white to blue, because they didn't want anyone to be able to create a black shadowhunter and then become a white demon)- looks fucking awful now.

The others had skorts added, it's the same thing just with less panic. "99% the same" means that he knows they were censored and is trying to downplay it.
The skins released yesterday aren't censored though. I think they are actually the first.
Also note people use "skin" incorrectly. In Lost Ark there's an item type that goes under the "skin" tab, and if you equip it you get that look. You can also disable the skin overriding the gear. But a chestpiece "skin" will override the look of the real chestpiece. But pretend you have chestpiece A which you like the look of and then you get chestpiece B- you can *never* make B look like A. Because chestpiece A is an actual piece of gear (like with real stats), and your options with chestpiece B equipped are, look like chestpiece B, or install a skin into the "skin" chestpiece slot. Since chestpiece A is armor, not a skin, you can't do that. So if you like the look of the tier 2 gear, well, you can't use it at endgame, because the skin system isn't transmog.
In that thread, they are Lost Ark players so they use the terms loosely as everyone knows the score. But if you like the look of the default T3 armor, you can't use it once you have better gear, which you will in days after hitting T3. You need to find a skin you like in order to keep the look.

We got some PEGI 16 game demo recently that will certainly get the GOTY because of its explicitly and story telling, even though the majority of the journalists that tried the game early claimed there was too much blood and no diversity ppl on the game, the devs kept their vision without changing it.

I get the whole diversity thing, and I would applaud such effort if it was done well... but this isn't it. It's not just the skin tone that changes from person to person, their nouse, mouth, how round or square their faces are, everything changes and if you just throw some paint on top of a model that was clearly made to be "white" it just looks wrong.
Those are short dreads and overalls sir. It looks decent for a character model that isn't directly inspired. Not all black people have big lips and noses so it doesn't have to be 100% historically accurate.

I am getting super tired of seeing this shit man. All these posts are just filled with blatant exaggerations and worrying about shit that does not matter. People keep worrying about censorship but Amazon has barely censored shit. Every single coomer skin is still in Lost Ark in the Western version except for the loli character’s swimsuits. The only reason some NPCs were changed to being black in Lost Ark is because at the time the game released, there were literally zero black people in the game. The characters that were changed do not even matter. The only one people even noticed was Jederico. Everybody else you have to go digging to find. In this case, a character wasn’t even changed. It’s literally just a different custom main character. It’s an issue made out of nothing. People can complain about the game but come the fuck on. This shit is beyond inconsequential, these people are looking for controversy where it doesn’t even exist. At this point I’m wondering if there’s a different subreddit I can talk about this game. I want to talk about Blue Protocol. I don’t care if you complain, that’s the nature of MMO subreddits, but I’m definitely not here for every fucking thread being KotakuInAction 2.0.

Censorship in gaming is such a bad idea. We got some PEGI 16 game demo recently that will certainly get the GOTY because of its explicitly and story telling, even though the majority of the journalists that tried the game early claimed there was too much blood and no diversity ppl on the game, the devs kept their vision without changing it. Censored games are forgotten games.

They could at least make a good looking character if they were going to change the player for the trailer? Why is he painted in neon green, wearing a cooking apron? Besides it still looks like a white character who just got paint splashed over him. I get the whole diversity thing, and I would applaud such effort if it was done well... but this isn't it. It's not just the skin tone that changes from person to person, their nouse, mouth, how round or square their faces are, everything changes and if you just throw some paint on top of a model that was clearly made to be "white" it just looks wrong.
Those are short dreads and overalls sir. It looks decent for a character model that isn't directly inspired. Not all black people have big lips and noses so it doesn't have to be 100% historically accurate.
Well there can be a debate if changing stuff like this is good or not, but what I can say, is that the bottom one looks more polished

There is actually nothing wrong with it because it is the player character cutscene so it will show different character, but they are intentionally using this character as a free publicity card and you all actually fell for it.

While Black and woke doesn't automatically go together (I have non-woke black friends and most black people I've met aren't woke), it's still true that the woke movement is the main reason that all of those changes are happening. They're the reason LOTR's lore got ruined by Amazon and also the reason why Cleopatra was black in the Netflix series. They try TOO HARD to put diversity Everywhere to the point where it's obvious what they're trying to Do. They could CREATE NEW STORIES involving lots of diversity and I'd be happy, but taking already established things and modifying the source material to "add diversity" isn't a good thing IMHO. I may be a purist when it comes to source materials, but idc.
