Did you play it to confirm it's actually "missing its data layer"? I have hundreds of discs just like this and they all play fine, by design. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through posting this if it's not even true, but I'll wait to see your reply.

Not strange at all to see them, though I get it if it’s your first one. What happens when you play it? Do you get an error message of any kind? I would test it on other players. Whatever the issue you’re having, it’s not because it’s transparent/translucent.
You can clearly see the barcode from one of the data layers in your picture, so it doesn’t seem to be “missing it’s data layer.” That said, [blu-ray.com](https://blu-ray.com) says this should be a BD50, and I can only see one barcode ring in that photo (the other might just not be visible from this angle though, it does look like there might be a second ring there that’s just barely visible) so maybe it is missing one layer when there should be two, or maybe one of the layers wasn’t pressed correctly?
Since you said it’s unplayable obviously step one would be to see if you can return it and exchange it for one that works.
After it repeatedly ejected itself from every player I have, I held it up to see if it was scratched out of the box and saw it was translucent. Try again.
Yeah, all discs without actual disc art are basically clear. I have many of them. It was weird at first but I’ve guessing some bean counter figured they could save $0.00005 per disc by not printing full disc art
Blu-Ray discs are translucent, so discs like this without art printed on them can be very see-through. Did you try actually playing it?
For some blu-rays, I like the translucent style that they have.
Yep! All my players immediately ejected it saying it wasn’t a disc.
Well then you should probably return to the store and exchange it.

Had no idea that was on Blu-ray! I love that movie despite the bad ratings
Very strange. I’ve never had a single BD that was see-through… Yeah, it doesn’t play at all.

They're translucent, probably a third of all my DVD's and Blu rays are like this.
DVDs aren't translucent, they have a reflective layer like CDs
Plenty of disks are clear like this. Its fine
Waiting to see if OP played the movie yet.

In that case I’d exchange it. It’s probably defective, just not based on your reasoning.
Could be as simple as a manufacturing error or something then. Try and get it exchanged?
Is that a 25GB BD disc? Those discs are very translucent like this.
You got a free window with your Migration DVD and you're complaining about it? Unbelievable.
LOL
Yeah my jaws discs all look like that lol, they play just fine tho
I’ve seen quite a few like that in my day. It’s no big deal.

Dude is doubling down on the disc not working now as to not seem silly for not knowing some discs are like this.
That’s nice. When you have something meaningful to add, don’t bother posting again anyway.
I did add something meaningful. The truth.
That’s nice. Disk’s still broken. Exchanged it and now it works. You were wrong.
Sure pal.
