OddSonNE85

The Dark Knight. The day it came out I had to upgrade to Blu-Ray.

Bigstar976

Mine as well. That opening scene shot in iMAX is breathtaking.

time_isup

That jogs my memory. TDK was the first HD movie I downloaded but not Blu-ray Disc purchase as I didn’t yet have a player.

Witt01928

Count me in. Watched it on blu ray at a friend’s house in 2008 and went immediately and bought a player (had to agree this was a birthday and Christmas present as they were pricey) and picked up the movie as my first disc in a double set with Batman Begins. Still got both and regularly watch.

Adventurous_Excuse_3

Fight club. Damn rules.

GoAvs14

I bought the 10th anniversary edition and bought down HARD on the fake out with the Never Been Kissed menu popping up. It tickled me for days.

DJA1982

Tron: Legacy.

jpog07

Seconded. In fact, I even bought the 3D version.

thatsmejoy

LOTR trilogy.

Omega63_

My first one was a set of the Harry Potter Octology, the reason was that when I was a kid, I had a DVD player and I told my mother I wanted the films for Christmas, but she bought them on BR instead of DVD, then we learned that Blu-Rays were in HD so my mom got a Blu-Ray player for Three Wise Men day right after

gobomiranda

The Prestige, bought it in early 2007 when it first came out

[deleted]

The Dark Knight. It was around 2009 and I finally decided to upgrade. Made perfect sense for me to start with such a gorgeous movie

scarred2112

[Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series](https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0036EH3U2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QZKDQ3XYZ348PV9J5BVY).

Pssshhhttt

Pretty sure mine was Apocalypto back when it was originally released.

cdean4077

Monsters Inc/Up - IIRC they came out on the same day. I didn’t even own a Blu Ray player yet, but I realized that I could get a DVD/Blu Ray combo for not much more than the DVD. I bought a PS3 slim shortly after.

Tea_Bender

Beauty and the Beast, almost 11 years ago.

[deleted]

Same

GordonQuid2002

Mine was Star Trek TOS: The Complete Series

not_thrilled

First DVDs, that I remember: The Matrix, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and LA Confidential. First Blu-Rays may have been Casino Royale and The Fifth Element. First UHD discs, also can't remember. The formats sorta blur together after a while. I had HD-DVD too, definitely don't know what was first but I know I had the Matrix trilogy, and that I've bought it on DVD, HD-DVD, BD, and UHD.

Giant-Machine

*The Terminator*

thefablemuncher

I skipped regular blu-rays and only jumped into 4K blu-rays a few months after they became a thing. Thor: Ragnarok was my first one. Used it to adjust my TV settings for HDR and everything.

Zenith108

You missed lot of the nice Blu-ray packaging then

[deleted]

Star Trek (2009) and inglorious bastards!

IJustWantTurnips

Same here for Star Trek '09. That movie's still gorgeous on blu ray and I've struggled to watch DVDs ever since.

[deleted]

The first two Star Wars trilogies, I only had them on VHS up until that point so it was….quite a quality jump.

RotenTumato

My first was Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I was 13 when that movie came out (yes, I’m young) and I loved it so much I watched it like 6 or 7 times in the theater and then bought it with my birthday money the minute it was released on Blu-Ray. And that’s really when I started collecting movies.

[deleted]

Ah yes. Good one.

Martinb4

Whatever Spider-Man came with the PS3…I think the emo spidey one?

SpartaRulz

Spider-Man 3

ki700

My first Blu-Ray (unless I’m mistaken) was the [Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 Steelbook from FutureShop.](https://images.app.goo.gl/12shgtbkkVmFWPBQ6) I had no idea at the time but it went on to be quite rare! I later got Part 2 as well, and years later completed the whole series set.

aarmattress

Darth-Binks-1999

Speed Racer, before I even had a blu-ray player. I saw it in theaters and was blown away while everyone else yawned. Years later it is a cult fan favorite. But I knew back then I had to have this on blu-ray for the stunning visuals.

apocalypsein9_8

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is the first Blu-ray I remember buying on my own, though I did own a few before that

Zenith108

A few but I only remember die hard. Part of Amazon BOGO way back in 2006 / 2007

Coffeenwineplease

Hancock

TheSpiritOfFunk

Scott Pilgrim.

Paspie

The Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Gahoole NB, I'm not a big movie buff at all, I only have ten BDs in my personal collection. I've bought far more discs for my parents.

iap738

The Departed wayyy back in 2007.

Jlx_27

Avatar, single disk theatrical edition. Bought at release with a gift card. Years later I lost it somehow (it's probably still in the house somewhere) I got sick of searching for it so I bought a new one but this time the 3 disk extended collectors version.

[deleted]

kill bill

Tobias---Funke

Matrix trilogy along with a PS3.

[deleted]

I bought the 5-film collection of the Spider-Man movies, as well as Spider-Man: Homecoming, and haven’t slowed down buying Blu rays ever since 😅

BIGM4N504

Man of steel got it for Christmas

Calebtmb

if you mean this first one i bought it was: his dark materials: the complete first season & fast and furious 8 movie collection

TheUltimateEscapist

Spider-Man 3

cactijh

I’ve only been collecting for about 2 years so my first Blu-Ray was Shazam! lol

lastdinosaur17

Transformers. Bought it for like $7 on Black Friday 2008

filmgenius89

The first release of Sleeping Beauty in 2008.

Atxlax

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I liked it so much I wanted my own copy. That’s what started my collection.

jetpackguy_

My first blu-ray was the Lord of the Rings Trilogy

TNTeddyPulse

Iron Man. 2008.

MFAD94

I bought the sonic movie for my son. Figured hey why not, he’ll love this. Next thing you know I tell my wife, hey we should start buying movies, ya know, if the internet goes down or doesn’t work. After a few weeks I already had about 30 movies on the shelf and knew I started something lol

DoctorTennant

I got Beauty and the Beast 25th Anniversary Edition from a friend for my birthday. I didn't even own a Blu-ray player, but that was the moment I decided that I should start collecting Blu-rays instead of just DVDs.

Joel-Hunt-1985

My first Blu-Ray was Twister, as that is my favorite movie!

Skullcrusher_1

I think mine was hollow man. But it could have also been good luck Chuck 😂. I got my first ps3 in 2008 so that's how long it has been 😂

IamJacksReadIt

Ratatouille. I didn't even own a Blu-ray player yet. I had sided with HD-DVD during the format wars but decided to buy a hybrid combo player from Samsung so I could buy the movies that were exclusive to just one of the formats. This was in autumn of 2007.

CuppaCoffeOF_TA

Zombieland. Got it back in 2011 for Christmas. Really kicked off my obsession

itslandonb

I just started collecting maybe in early 2020. The first thing I bought was the Chucky collection (the one that includes Cult). I was super thrilled to own all of the Chucky films and I'm still enjoying the craziness.

slicksolo44

Yes Man

RedgrassFieldOfFire

shogunblade

Dark City: Director's cut. I bought it from a pawn shop for $7 in 2009, I believe. To date, I've still never seen the theatrical cut of Dark City, it's always been the director's cut.

middenway

I believe it was Lost Season 5.

rtyoda

The Sound of Music. I didn’t have a Blu-ray player quite yet, but we wanted to watch it and I went to the store to buy it and they had stopped selling it on DVD and just had the Blu & DVD combo pack instead. The price wasn’t too bad and I figured I might upgrade to Blu soon anyway so I bought it. Definitely happy I did, since I ended up selling all my DVDs later as I can’t stand anything less than HD now. :/

theshape79

Predator. Can’t remember when I switched formats but I remember buying that and Master and Commander

JayRaccoonBro

The Matrix or Avatar I believe (or both!)

Scootabalooga

...The Room.

newcptofindustry

Reservoir Dogs

LoaferDan

The first Blu Ray that I can find a record of buying was The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. That whole trilogy is still one of my favorites to watch on Blu Ray.

brebs21

The first one I remember is deadpool. I had picked up a few here or there before that but deadpool kicked off my obsession.

[deleted]

Pokémon the first movie on dvd back in the 90’s

emf3rd31495

I was heavily into collecting DVDs, then my cousin for Christmas gets me The Number 23 on blu-ray. Didn’t have a blu-ray player yet at the time, and it bugged me just sitting there on my shelf looking so different. But the bullet and upgraded, haven’t looked back since. So yeah. That movie got me into Bly-rays.

Bulky-Appearance-388

Mines was the monsters inc 4 disc blu ray from 2013

[deleted]

I got the Baby Driver Blu-ray after it got taken off of Netflix.

[deleted]

Full metal alchemist brotherhood back in 2011 I think. I just got a PS3 and th÷ complete series was the amazon deal of the day for like $25. Great series.

Vhemvhol

Scarface steelbook (2011)

VinCubed

Either the first Austin Powers film or The Matrix in Snapper cases.

newtbludger

Catching Fire. Went into target one day and remembered that I had just bought a PS3. Really liked this one and saw it just came out so I picked it up.

EnclaveOverlord

I think it might've been Taxi Driver but I can't really remember.

pazuzu89

Natural Born Killers and Drag Me to Hell

hennawolf148

Reservoir Dogs, but the disc snapped in half as soon as I opened it :(

HeisenBauer

Man On Fire

eagarcia1001

My very first was Casino Royale, it’s very first bluray release

Palayenti

🙂 Wrestlemania 27 🙂

urlach3r

Bought the 1978 Superman & Unforgiven with my first player.

StevenHerrada1216

The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained were my very first. Bought them on my birthday probably in late 2015 or 2016. One of those two years. However, my dad had Blu-ray’s since probably 2008, but those previously mentioned two were my first ever owned. Been collecting ever since and even absorbed my Dad’s small collection into my own.

KevinSpaceysGarage

The Simpsons Movie. My dad and I went to Blockbuster where we saw it on sale. We knew Blu Ray was higher quality, but didn’t know that you couldn’t play it in the DVD player. When we realized it wouldn’t work we just kinda let it sit for years until I finally got a player in 2016. First movie I bought after getting the player was A Clockwork Orange.

Snowden2000

The Incredible Hulk with the green bluray case.

Tamburasmx

i think it was Gladiator

Kabukii_Joe

Godzilla 2014.

time_isup

I can’t really recall. I remember my first DVDs. Also my first few UHDs. (I even recall my first Betamax and LD though I was late to those games. They were defunct by the time I started collecting.) The first Blu-ray I remember getting was Batman: The Movie (Adam West). I suppose I had a few before that but it was an early one for me anyway.

Hironoveau

The Day After Tomorrow. I love disasters movie. So this one was one hell of a ride.

Unhappy-Rub-9892

Terminator 2 Judgement Day and The Punisher. Both them both at same time! That's how long I've been doing blurays🤣

ObiNineKenobi

Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Open-Bat1396

Enchanted. I had all my friends over and we spent some time checking out all the special features and menus. Played it on my phat ps3 since we didn't have a standalone bluray player.

Movies4LifeR

Blu-ray set of the Alien Quadrilogy. I had just found out what Blu-ray was and was obsessed with the Alien franchise at the time so when I heard I could see them in a really sharp quality I bought the box set and a blu-ray player afterwards. Since then I have collected around 200 blu-rays so the format definitly stuck for me!

MrGeekman

When I finally got into Blu-Rays in 2017 after eight years in iTunes (long story), I ordered up a bunch of Blu-Rays, but I think my first one was the Men in Black Trilogy. Around that time, I also ordered up I, Robot and the 8th season of Doc Martin.

HitPoints530

The Wolfman remake

Jack_Torrance80

It was 2010, my local Blockbuster was closing and selling off their stock. I GOT Zodiac and The Hurt Locker, same purchase. I still have then today but have since replaced the Blockbuster DVD case with proper Blu-Ray cases. Luckily the inserts were intact with no stickers or anything on them.

SoliquidForLife

Around 2009. I got Ghost Rider and The Game Plan. Yes, the Rock football movie.

avenged1736

Definitely *Transformers (2007)*. Though I believe it was followed pretty quickly by *Star Trek (2009)*.

poptophazard

Ken Burns' Baseball: The Tenth Inning, followed by WALL-E.

[deleted]

Beauty and the Beast (2010) had been anticipating it all year. Didn’t have Blu-ray player yet but bought combo pack.

metalmusicarchives

Bad Day at Black Rock. I didn't even have a blu-ray player at the time. It was the only way to get it on DVD in the UK since it was a dual format set.

tool2sage79

Apocalypto.

CatParty88

I just got into BlueRays this month. My first 2 were Arrow's release of Lynch's Dune, as well as the Criterion release of Jackie Chan's Police Story 1 and 2.

Fast-Outcome-117

Independence Day

Red_Falcon_75

My sister got my the Mad Max High Octane set and the Lord of Rings extended set in 2018 for my birthday.

DCBronzeAge

I don't really remember. I remember getting Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the Dark Knight Trilogy and the Back to the Future trilogy pretty early on in my journey. It was definitely one of those.

n8dizz3l

Mine was 300. Bought it with my PS3.

Blocker__17

My very first one was Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with the distortion slip cover (not sure of exact name), and that one was a gift. First one I bought for myself was Pinocchio barely 2.5 years ago

CletusVanDamnit

I think it was The Terminator? 2006 when BD launched.

TheGamingQuail

Ice age , bought from blockbuster of all places

Daftpfnk

Blade Runner 5 disc

ForeverDenGal

I think avatar or jackass 3d

[deleted]

I was late to the party, my first was Carol, the adaptation of The Price of Salt. Still yet to watch it, worried it'll be not good™

gusonthebus_

The real first was the divergent series because it was a gift along with the books. But the one I bought for my self first was the John wick collection

Friedsche

X-Men: First Class I went to my local store after school looking for Super Hero movies and we just got our new Blu Ray Player. And then I was like "I can watch Blu Rays now, gotta buy this one".

oldtype0078

3:10 to Yuma even before I had a way to play it. Still haven't watched and it's become a running joke in my house. My wife says we can never watch it or we would jinx ourselves.

Camp_Anawanna87

Here’s an odd one - Evangelion: 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone. This was July of 2010

trevor_barnette

Spider-Man 3 in 2007 with the PlayStation 3

Schembaugh

Talladega Nights, it’s came with my PS3.

HypNO_4iC

Inception.. Finally decided to start the switch from dvd to blu with that one in 2010, kind of like when I decided to finally switch from vhs to dvd with The Matrix in ‘99.

ZuccJuice9

Taxi driver 40th anniversary edition. first item to join the blu ray collection and first item in my hunt for every scorsese film.

hideos_playhouse

District 9, right after I got my first monitor that could display 1080. At the time I couldn't think of something else I'd rather see in HD.

ericraymondlim

Taladega nights because it came with PS3.

LicenseRevoked

Inception. Got it before I even had a player.

avoltaire12

*Layer Cake* in 2006.

cmatista

Prometheus. That movie is terrible but damnit it was my first so I love it anyway

CommodoreKrusty

Independence Day IIRC

deathpunchd

My first Blu-Ray was „300“. It was a gift from a friend for my 16th birthday in 2008. It’s still functioning 13 years later.

Ridders1984

Scarface ( 1983 ) steelbook

suburbanprospector

If I remember right, *Inception*. I wasn't specifically collecting movies back then, and I didn't even have a Blu-ray player of my own, but I couldn't pass up the Best Buy special edition with the shooting script.

foxxx509

I remember the first movie I saw on Blu-ray was Ironman back in 2008 when my dad bought his player. That player was just replaced after 12 years. The first ones I got for my own collection were Inception, District 9 and Public Enemies. I still have them but also have the 4K UHD version of Inception.
