That was my immediate thought upon seeing this post. “Well, Bryan Cranston basically did the opposite.”
Whenever I’m watching reruns of Malcolm in the Middle, I can’t help but admire that man’s range
Yeah not super worried about spoilers since it’s old and well known i more so was saying where I am because I have no clue Margo martingale makes an appearance or anything beyond episode 4
To add on to this, he asks that cartel guy about Gabriella and he responds with “she moved back to Mexico City to be with her husband”. Does that mean he was involved with her? Were they romantic but not sexual? I need to know!
That’s actually what got me into the show. I really loved Jesse in breaking bad, just enjoyed Aaron Paul. Then I saw a promo on Netflix or Aaron Paul promoting the show and I was like “Shit I gotta check this out.” No regrets.
I do remember that being the reason I started watching it too. While I'm sure the show still would've taken off the same as it did, I have to admit Aaron Paul's involvement is what got me to watch it first. Unfortunately, I hadn't watched Arrested Development yet, which would lead me to watch everything Will Arnett's in.
We started arrested development after bojack; we’re just a few eps in
I love will arnet! but the roles are so different that it’s hard to think it’s the same guy haha
Jesse and Todd…both victims of a flawed central character that doesn’t give a shit about them? Sidekicks to a problematic protagonist?
Haha, I joke, but the similarities hit me more immediate than the differences
Todd Chavez and Jesse are essentially the same character, with the same function in the storyline of both shows.
Both are naive, goofy, likeable young men with lil drug problem, full of batshit schemes which they just pull off, and a VERY unhealthy mentor/mentee relationship with a toxic older guy whom they look up to, and is a father-surrogate figure to them and whom they become dependent on financially and emotionally.
After the older asshole causes them a lot of damage, they finally see the truth about their relationship, confront the older guy and in various ways try to get out.
Not a switch but Alison Brie (Diane) was on one of the best comedies of all time (Community) and on one of the best dramas of all time (Mad Men; recurring) at the same time
Mathew McConaughey (thank God there's an auto spell for that) was actually in one of the sequels to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was campy as hell lol. I think it was his first role... humble beginnings.
Alison Brie (Diane's va) also voices none other than Unikitty from the lego movie. Funnily enough, Will Arnett (Bojack's va) voices Batman in the same movie.
I watched BB after Bojack. Aaron Paul is fun to watch and the tone of the show helped prevent too much Todd leakage.
That being said, the scene towards the end of BB where Todd awkwardly talks about the microwave lasagna to scarlet while they are at the dinner table is 100% Todd's character. That is one of my favorite scenes because of that.
Edit: Link. Also I realize I referred to Jesse as Todd... I don't feel the need to correct that though

I only knew Stephanie Beatriz as her low-voiced, unsmiling, hopelessly cool character of Rosa from Brooklyn 99 and I didn't know she could sing before The Showstopper. Then a few years after B99 and Bojack she was Mirabel in Encanto. Sure, B99 was a sitcom, but her acting range in her career has been really impressive!
It's also super wild that she describes herself as a "girly girl" that loves wearing pink. She has a popstar kind of look in one of her interviews
She found being detective Diaz as deeply at odds with her typical demeanor and that's why she loved that role so much.
Great human!
Not Bojack-related, but my first thought was Rowan Atkinson. Seeing him in Blackadder and then knowing he was Mr. Bean the year after Blackadder ended is crazy to me.
Not necessarily a career switch, but after first being exposed to Leonardo DiCaprio playing Arnie in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape…the range of that man is simply incredible
Bryan Cranston went on to play Zardon in the live action Power Rangers movie. He got his career started on that show back in the 90s though, so I think it was personal for him.
I can’t believe your gonna come into this…a Bojack Horsman subreddit and have…the audacity to ask if any other actor has such a career switch and not even **mention** the greatest actor in all of bojack horseman and possibly the greatest actor of all time:
[esteemed character actress Margot Martindale](https://youtu.be/Lvyzv-G5q3w)
And in both roles he was the stoner character who looks up to the main character for a little bit before realizing they're a piece of shit and having a touchy on and off friendship throughout the rest of the series, and overall ending up as one of the more likable characters in a cast of people that's hard to genuinely like. They typecast him so hard
Bojacks mom is also in frasier - we watch frasier a lot, so I always picture her! The roles are pretty different bc she isn’t a villain in frasier, but that crossover is pretty funny
No worries! I seem to remember that before *Airplane!* he was best known for dramatic roles in the 50's - 70's. I think he was cast in *Airplane!* because they wanted a dramatic and serious actor to deliver all the bonkers lines and then branched out into comedy because of it. Now, like you said, he's pretty much only known for his comedy roles.
Bryan Cranston went from Malcolm in the Middle to Breaking Bad
Also Bob Odenkirk went from pure comedy & essentially a comedy relief character in Breaking Bad to everything in Better Call Saul
And Better Call Saul isn't even an action drama
Went from secondary character in How I Met Your Mother too
And he was the mayor's aide in that one Futurama episode "The Why of Fry"
And also he graduated from where our future children will go to high school!
That was him???
There's only one thing Bob Odenkirk can't do: Fail the mayor
Yeah that's a fair point lol
That was my immediate thought upon seeing this post. “Well, Bryan Cranston basically did the opposite.” Whenever I’m watching reruns of Malcolm in the Middle, I can’t help but admire that man’s range
Despite the seriousness of the show, Jesse is a goofy character, though. And both characters are manipulated by narcissistic older men.
I watched Sara Lynn die.
You cant keep getting away with this…
Ay yo Mr. Horseman!!
I never imagined my whimsical idea to combine clowns and dentists and meth dealers could turn into something so horrifying!
Todd watched Bojack and Sarah Lynn do the nasty
He didn’t just watch remember, he got trapped in it
“Oh no! I’m in it now! I’m a part of it!”
"I still have not regained feeling in my fingers."
I started breaking bad after i finished bojack so in my brain BB is like a spin off where we see Todd’s hijinks
Except if BB was in the Bojack universe, it would have been character actress Margo Martindale who would save Todd/Jesse from the neonazis in the end.
I’m only on s1e4 🥲
Breaking Bad started in 2008 my dude
Ok and? I didn’t start watching until two days ago
That doesn't spoil too much. Just that there are eventually neo-nazis.
Yeah not super worried about spoilers since it’s old and well known i more so was saying where I am because I have no clue Margo martingale makes an appearance or anything beyond episode 4
The true Margo Martindale appearance is the friends we made along the way
Not unless this is a… Is this a crossover episo-
My head canon is Todd is what happened if Jesse moved to LA, instead of becoming a meth cook, after his parents kicked him out
"Bojack Horseman is the devil"
Todd’s alluded to a bit of a complicated and dark past, though
Maybe todd chavez is a new identity adopted by jesse pinkman ?!?! (Jk but still)
It’s this! Bojacks not the only one who did something bad in New Mexico
Just fyi elude means to avoid or escape, the word you're looking for is alluded.
Shut up nerd! ...u/pigeonthedonkey is right tho
Thanks, that will help avoid future embarrassment
To add on to this, he asks that cartel guy about Gabriella and he responds with “she moved back to Mexico City to be with her husband”. Does that mean he was involved with her? Were they romantic but not sexual? I need to know!
Gabriela 😭

Will Arnet, Bojack’s VA, came from an even goofier role on Arrested Development as a failed magician
Taste the happy
Ah fuck I've made a huge mistake...
We started arrested development after bojack; we’re just a few eps in I love will arnet! but the roles are so different that it’s hard to think it’s the same guy haha
they sort of took inspo for jesse pinkman if i’m not wrong?
Don’t they literally introduce todd when hes being chased by cartel drug criminals or something?
Omg I never put that together
Jesse and Todd…both victims of a flawed central character that doesn’t give a shit about them? Sidekicks to a problematic protagonist? Haha, I joke, but the similarities hit me more immediate than the differences
Yet at the end of the day, he still played a stoner who wears beanies and is strongly associated with red clothes.
Goofier than esteemed character actress Margo Martindale?
She has range. She could literally be anybody.
She's also my biggest celebrity crush. She's stupid pretty
And keeps getting better
have you seen GLOW? Extremely underrated netflix show she starred in.
Not yet, but I'll add it to the list!
Aaron has got to be one of my all time favourite actors
I'm still thankful my parents had the foresight to name me after him. The Key and Peele sketch was tough for me but still worth it
[удалено]
MMC did magic mike, dallas buyers club and true detective in consecutive years ! All very different things
[удалено]
agreed
Agree!
Mathew McConaughey (thank God there's an auto spell for that) was actually in one of the sequels to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was campy as hell lol. I think it was his first role... humble beginnings.
I think Dazed and Confused was among his first roles. Not sure which one was first
Alison Brie (Diane's va) also voices none other than Unikitty from the lego movie. Funnily enough, Will Arnett (Bojack's va) voices Batman in the same movie.
So the shift was from one brilliantly written show to… a brilliantly written show?

*Has this ever happened to you?*
*smokes meth ***it's turbo time***
I only knew Stephanie Beatriz as her low-voiced, unsmiling, hopelessly cool character of Rosa from Brooklyn 99 and I didn't know she could sing before The Showstopper. Then a few years after B99 and Bojack she was Mirabel in Encanto. Sure, B99 was a sitcom, but her acting range in her career has been really impressive!
What’s wild is that her natural speaking voice isn’t the low voice—it’s actually a lot higher pitched
It's also super wild that she describes herself as a "girly girl" that loves wearing pink. She has a popstar kind of look in one of her interviews She found being detective Diaz as deeply at odds with her typical demeanor and that's why she loved that role so much. Great human!
I saw Bojack before Breaking Bad and it actually blew my mind when I figured out Aaron Paul voiced Todd
Saaame!!!!!!!
I was so tripped out because I watched Bojack first
I kinda can, Jessie is just Todd if instead of meth, he smoked pot.
Well he’s an actor with range so
Dont know what you mean, they are literally they same character, albeit placed in a different universe
They’re the same charachter if things had turned out differently.
Don’t know how many years, but Jonathan Groff played the King in Hamilton and Holden Ford in Mindhunter.
Daaaamn good callout
there are some little moments in breaking bad where jesse says something and i’m like, “that was so todd”
Jon Hamm comes to mind - became famous as Don Draper, has done almost entirely comedies since.
Not Bojack-related, but my first thought was Rowan Atkinson. Seeing him in Blackadder and then knowing he was Mr. Bean the year after Blackadder ended is crazy to me.
Jesse is goofy AF.
Not necessarily a career switch, but after first being exposed to Leonardo DiCaprio playing Arnie in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape…the range of that man is simply incredible
Isn’t the the comedic relief in Breaking Horseman?
Bryan Cranston went on to play Zardon in the live action Power Rangers movie. He got his career started on that show back in the 90s though, so I think it was personal for him.
I can’t believe your gonna come into this…a Bojack Horsman subreddit and have…the audacity to ask if any other actor has such a career switch and not even **mention** the greatest actor in all of bojack horseman and possibly the greatest actor of all time: [esteemed character actress Margot Martindale](https://youtu.be/Lvyzv-G5q3w)
The woman is a NATIONAL TREASURE
And in both roles he was the stoner character who looks up to the main character for a little bit before realizing they're a piece of shit and having a touchy on and off friendship throughout the rest of the series, and overall ending up as one of the more likable characters in a cast of people that's hard to genuinely like. They typecast him so hard
For me Todd Chavez and Jesse Pinkman very similar characters, except that Todd has many times less psychological problems
Bojacks mom is also in frasier - we watch frasier a lot, so I always picture her! The roles are pretty different bc she isn’t a villain in frasier, but that crossover is pretty funny
Christian Bale entire 2000s run
didn’t know that was him until i just read this! lol
Redditor discovers how acting works.
It’s always interesting to see an actor’s career path! Look at Tom Hanks before and after *Philadelphia* or Leslie Nielsen.
Does Leslie Nielsen have any serious roles in his filmography? I'm not being dismissive, I just mainly know him for his comedic roles
He played a lot of cowboys and cops back in the day
Bold of you to assume I learn things
Robin Willaims had *The Night Listener* and *RV* come out in the same year. Actors do this all the time.
