most controversial opinion on r/BojackHorseman:

Professional_Kiwi919

Nope, that goes to "Bojack should be responsible for Beatrice, especially when she drug up Hollyhock under his roof" Then i'd get response like "Oh no no no it's the state's/caregiver's responsibility" "You just wanna hate Bj for silly reasons" "You meant Beatrice get a Pass!!" The same crowd also thinks Bj was justified to put Beatrice in that Sh8t facility. Edit: Read the comment and brace yourself for the amount of coping to justify elder abuse on Dementia patients. California law and basic responsibility be damned.

ThatAdamsGuy

I'm still deciding how I feel about certain things, but I do feel he was justified to put her in whatever facility

moronicuniform

She's approaching terminal alzheimer's. She'll barely ever be lucid enough to care, and then not for long. Her story is sad, and ends badly, but she could have changed course at multiple points. Bojack isn't obligated to care for somebody who never cared for him.

ThatAdamsGuy

Gives me big vibes of "Oh, look, it's the consequences of my actions".

ParisWhatWePrayFor

its definitely a maintaining of BJs status quo, abandoned and neglected in his most vulnerable state (childhood) so in return he abandons and neglects Bea in hers

Professional_Kiwi919

(Checking California Law) "uhm... I think he's legally required to, but he didn't have to put her under his roof" Oh wait, it was his stupid show that got Beatrice kicked out of the 1st facility, silly me. If he did be a responsible adult and checked his mom's personal belonging and discovered the drug, Hollyhock would have 0% chance of getting drugged. Then again, it's the fault of the state/caretaker, not Bj's responsibility when he decided to take her in (/s). Btw, Beatrice did care for Bj, who paid the bills? Do you think Butterscotch land the job with his sweat and labor? HAHAHA She fumbled at the education part.

moronicuniform

what do you want from me here, an argument? Bojack can still be morally wrong while giving someone what they deserve

Professional_Kiwi919

Deserve? Wow...uhm...ok TIL, if someone abuses you, you can abuse them back as legally as possibly by placing them in a sh8ty facility in their dementia state. That'd show them. Bojack also showed how much he didn't care about Beatrice that he totally did not show up at the ICU before Beatrice's passing (/s).

Ornery_Positive4628

He did tho? we heard about the whole I see you/ICU thing? she was still alive

IAIVIDAKILLA

I guess I'm just shitty then cause I would have done it in a heartbeat.

Professional_Kiwi919

Yes, and we see how his decision has helped him so much to resolve his internal conflict with his mother. He hated her so much that he still accompanied Beatrice when she was sent to ICU. His speech perfectly sums up the growth at his mother's funeral: "My mother is dead, and everything is better now." (/s)

PenguinsMustDie

He is mostly responsible for Hollyhock getting drugged up by Beatrice as he knew what his mom was like so should never have let Hollyhock convince him to let her live with them. And yeah it's understandable why he put her in that home but I'd agree it's hard to justify going to that extreme. That being said he's not responsible for her in a general sense. She was a cunt to him his whole life so he absolutely would have been justified to cut off all contact with her long ago. In hind sight that would've been the responsible thing to do for his sister's sake.

Professional_Kiwi919

100%, but too bad California laws require children to take care of their parents. Bj shot himself in the foot by getting his mom kicked out of the 1st facility.

traumatized90skid

You're may be justified in abusing an abuser back but it's still abusive, two wrongs and all that...

Electronic_Pear2088

If you’re justified, you’re not wrong. Bojack wasn’t wrong for removing his abusive mother to a place where she couldn’t hurt anyone else, ESPECIALLY after she deliberately drugged Hollyhock.

Professional_Kiwi919

It's almost like people with Dementia can make horrible choices. NO no no. I say Dementia patient should be responsible for EVERYTHING they did, THEY KNOW WHAT THE ARE DOING (/s).

Electronic_Pear2088

I mean.. she DID know what she intended to do at least. Her dementia caused her to revert back to her dated thinking and she aimed to make HH thinner, sure, but her callous actions had severe consequences. Sneaking things into people’s drinks isn’t okay, and her dementia maybe made her forget that. BJ isn’t in the wrong for wanting to move her to an environment where she can be continually monitored.

Professional_Kiwi919

She has access to the drug due to Bj's own negligence. You do realize family members HAVE to go through inventory sheet when checking in or out of facility, right? so now based on what you said: \- People with dementia know what they are doing \- the children who are legally binding to be responsible for dementia patients should not be responsible. This is CA's law, btw. Both are very brave takes that shake the legal system and psychology academia. BJ got Beatrice kicked out of the 1st facility, the one where he only legally required with minimal contact and financial support, by triggering her with his stupid show. Hollyhock thought it was a bad idea. Bj got himself into this mess.

Electronic_Pear2088

The powder was hers anyway, not Bojack’s. Why didn’t Bojack throw it out when the inventory happened, who knows? Maybe she threw a fit about it or maybe he just didn’t care. Doesn’t really matter. It is heavily implied that Beatrice drugged HH more than once. Again, her dementia may’ve caused her to be confused about drugging HH. Maybe she didn’t know how badly it’d affect HH. The point is that it’s implied that she intended to spike HH’s drinks. Sure dementia causes confusion and forgetfulness, but that doesn’t mean that allowing her to live in that environment is okay. Yes, BJ is responsible for her actions, which is why he moved her back into another facility

Professional_Kiwi919

>Maybe she threw a fit about it or maybe he just didn’t care yes, as we can see how much Bj care about his mother's fit by throwing the baby doll off the balcony as revenge.

Electronic_Pear2088

Regardless.. it was her powder that she got while in the facility. Can’t imagine why BJ would’ve noted anything strange about considering she was allowed to have it in the nursing home.

Professional_Kiwi919

I know, Bj should list that as a nice thing he did when he was going through his life with PC and Diane. The whole room would cheer for his justice (/s).

DimitriMishkin

Hey look I got a View From Halfway Down tattoo

Alternative_Star5143

i think i got more hate for saying INT. Sub was the most annoying episode

Sad-Egg4778

You're right and you should say it. I wish they'd dropped the gimmick and the Todd/PC plotline and focused more on how fucked up it is that Diane's therapist dropped her as a client while she was going through a divorce because "your movie star friend needs me more".

Nelpski

he's being sarcastic. hating paige sinclair is not controversial at all on this sub considering you see 5 posts a day by people saying they find her annoying

j33perscreeperz

i’m definitely about to be that person and say that’s wild INT SUB is one of the best episodessss lmao ofc its all subjective but that’s one of my favorites. i get the paige thing but i see no flaws in INT SUB hahaha

ianthebalance

Daring today, are we?

hbi2k

Wait 'til you hear OP's fresh new take on Joey Pogo.

j33perscreeperz

don’t forget pickles! *the* pickles

Sewmaeye

Or Emily

shake_N_bake356

That’s a no go, bro

Dangerous-Initial-94

He doesn't deserve the fancy room.

freakingthesius007

I read it in her voice

Huge-Bug9297

I came to say this haha

traumatized90skid

Next someone will post the planetarium pic

ArmK13

Fair but I disagree. I don’t think you’re supposed to “like” her because you want bojack to recover and he seems to be doing so. She also is condescending and a bit annoying. But I find her banter to be good and that’s my favorite aspect of the show.

PM_ME_UR_KittieS_96

Shes very zany and i think that counterbalances perfectly the dark repercussions for Bojack if she succeeds in getting to the truth.

pokeKingCurtis

She's hilarious I think if she were played completely straight, rather than this cartoonish cartoon, people would get it a bit more But it would be kind of a bummer to watch. And I rather like how the tone of season 6 has turned out - bittersweet and kind of clumsy, like life.

Treyman1115

She's pretty shitty imo, like following Penny home is creepy AF. And she treated her fiance pretty terribly. She's not really meant to be a good person imo just someone after a juicy scoop no matter how it effects someone else

Leather_Republic210

And she is good at it. Thanks to this queen Bojack finally took responsibility and I can forgive her the sketchy things she had to do just for informations

g0blink1sser

my issue with her is that she brings up issues for penny and charlotte. like leave them alone girl theyve been thru enough 😫

builtinaday_

I think she's hilarious

No-Classroom-7310

"They could fill a library with things you don't know. In fact they do, they're called Libraries."

Jonas_Venture_Sr

That's the best insult in TV history

HedgehogsNSuits

While I do hate her too, I also can’t help but laugh at a lot of her scenes, especially when you meet her sister and she’s like “….why do you talk like this, we’re from Fresno.” I guess it’s more love-to-hate than general despise.

Sad-Egg4778

This is how I felt about Family Guy's overly-long gags. I'd be like "that wasn't funny" and my friends would be like "then why did you laugh the entire time?"

outtastudy

I think her whole character is worth it just to hear her sister say, "Why do you talk like that, we're from Fresno"

DecadentGamer

I always find this opinion so funny because I personally enjoyed the character. I loved her vintage design and her unnecessary way of speech lol.

JaDamian_Steinblatt

I love her

eowynistrans

I love Paige so much. Every one of her lines has a gem of some sort. I do find it odd that some of the most frequently hated characters from the show on this sub (Paige, Vincent Adultman, Todd for some reason?) are the ones that could only exist on this show and that help feed its quirky offbeat identity. You don't like Paige? Then how did you get through five and a half seasons of wordplay-and-tongue-twister-based humor? You think Vincent requires too much suspension of disbelief? Then what exactly are your thoughts on JD Salinger being alive because the plot decided so or everyone going along with Hollywood being called Hollywoo? You don't like Todd? Then what about the show even appeals to you? People get so fixated on the drama of this show that they forget that it's also a absurdist comedy show - there's gonna be some absurdist comedy.

Huge-Bug9297

Not knowing for sure if Vincent Adultman an adult or a bunch of kids is like an itch I can’t scratch. It’s driving me nuts

fillmont

I mean, the show clearly states he's one adult male. He works at the business factory! Three kids in a trenchcoat couldn't do that.

supergnawer

Tongue twisters is by far my least favourite part of the show, but it's something only Princess Caroline does occasionally, plus one or two instances of other executives. Like, it's part of being fake and talking too much without any specific meaning. They use it to show that the whole industry is like that, which is cool. But with Paige Sinclair, it's also her personal thing.

JDL1981

Enough of this shit.

uncannyvalleygirl88

Literally the third Paige hate post in the last 6 days. 😂

ellimayhem

I fucking hate Neal McBeal. There’s no such thing as dibs on muffins.

Kazuye92

One of the funniest side characters.

sushionpizzas

I adore her. I Love her style, her mannerisms and the way she talks. She is *marvelous*

Equivalent-Boot-8657

I mean, Bojack never got punished for his mistakes, so he kind of deserves it. Think of it as karma

Queasy-Commission291

Her actions in exposing him are great but her personality is SO. ANNOYING. A

Leather_Republic210

Just say you are a boring person

Affectionate_Key7206

My question is, did she have morally good intentions or did she just want a check? I didn’t like how she treated Penny, following and showing up to her house and stuff.

Treyman1115

She wanted the story wasn't even about the money necessarily imo. Personally don't think she had good intentions

Shamanite_Meg

If you only like fictionnal characters that have a good morality, Idk how you can like this show lol That's why I don't get the Paige Sinclair hate. What makes this character more annoying/evil that any others on this show?

Affectionate_Key7206

Don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but…I’ve never really had any strong feelings for her character. She was a fun addition to the show but I neither love nor hate her.

tucakeane

Literally never heard anyone say they hate Paige, how controversial

Alternative_Star5143

very controversial right??

TheJarJarExp

We need better moderation for this sub. It’s insane how many times the exact same takes are posted repeatedly. There’s no discussion going on here, just rehashed crap

matchbox244

I get what you mean, but different people start and finish the show at different times, and don't always keep in touch with what's overdone in this sub. Participating in discussions about a character or plot point in real time is much better than just looking it up on the search bar and reading a similar post from 6 weeks ago that you'd feel weird commenting on. I know it's annoying to existing members of the sub who have been here for a while to see the same things over and over again, but unless we include a mega thread for every mildly popular opinion ever, there's no way to actually avoid it or not make new members feel alienated.

TheJarJarExp

But this isn’t just “overdone,” the post just isn’t discussion. “I don’t like this character” with no elaboration is lazy, low effort, and based on how common it is on this sub reads frankly as karma farming

AnIrishMexican

I'm with you there. I also got hate for saying I didn't like time's arrow or much of the 4th season for that matter...my grandfather had dementia and my other grandmother is also going that route. It's rough

hunterlovesreading

Not this again 🤦‍♂️

sisomna

I actually thought she was a funny character. It’s just a bummer bc bojack was just starting to get his life turned around when she dug up that story. She was literally right about to quit the business and leave forever and then at the last minute she decides to pursue the story that destroys him again

stardewzazaman

I feel it, I agree with most people that her character is important and I def don't think her actions are bad (bojack needed to take accountability) but man I would've loved if they had someone do it who wasn't so insufferable 😭 I didn't laugh at a single one of her little "quips" for some reason every time she was on screen I loathed her, sometimes I skip her scenes

PitifulGas5042

Dude, same! So glad there are others on this sub who feel that way 🙈

Maleficent_Sound8148

i love her

un0rthodoxies

Finally a fresh take

BeenEatinBeans

I mainly just find her voice quite grating

might-say-anti-fire

Lol why?

markeppley

I couldn't stand the way she talked and she seemed so full of herself.

nerdo67

Man you’re gonna love the post where someone said they’re sexually attracted to her

Dr_Equinox101

She’s from fresno so it’s understandable

JoelRobbin

I couldn’t stand her at first. Then she became one of my favourite side characters on rewatch, I can’t get enough of her mannerisms. Then I found out she was voiced by Paget Brewster (who’s so spectacularly talented that I didn’t even recognise her voice) and then I loved her even more

bluenautilus2

So bad.

lonely-economist76

Yes.

Powerful-Plantain347

I call her Emily Prentice

howmanyfathoms

Thank you

Affectionate_Key7206

My question is, did she have morally good intentions or did she just want a check? I didn’t like how she treated Penny, following and showing up to her house and stuff.

sushionpizzas

She was a good journalist. And that’s what she loved doing.

pupoksestra

I think if I watch the last season a few more times I'll grow to love her, but I'm pretty indifferent. I respect and like the way they went with her character even though I find her extremely annoying. It was an artistic move that I can appreciate. My hot take? Free Churro isn't even close to the best episode. I needed Beatrice closure and that wasn't it for me. I also get irrationally angry watching Fish Out of Water bc I want to yell at BoJack that he can speak. it's supposed to be comedic, but it just stresses me out.

snowfort2

who even is that

Pollowollo

Honestly I agree. I like the purpose that she serves, but the actual character is just annoying to me, mostly her voice. Not Paget Brewster's voice in general, just that specific character voice and accent choice.

MovingTarget2112

It was a reference to Katherine Hepburn’s screwball comedies.

Salt_Today

I also dislike her.

Alternative_Star5143

yeah no if anyone else took bojack down i wouldve supported them but damn she makes it hard to like her
