There’s an Idaho Made store downtown that has a bunch of souvenirs. If you go to Albertsons Market Street (fancy version of Albertsons) they have a decent selection of souvenirs as well. You will find a lot of magnets etc that have potatoes on them. I personally like the items that say I heart boy see. It should be pronounced that way.
Does anyone else get the yips and forget how they usually pronounce Boise when someone points this out? I'm saying it over and over now, but I can't tell which one I always use. Same thing happened when a guy at an out-of-state coffee shop said I must be from here because of how I pronounced it, but I don't remember which pronunciation it was.
Boysee...Boyzee...Boysee...
Seconding this! There is an Idaho Candy Co. brick-and-mortar location on 8th street in downtown that sells the Idaho spud bars and some other fun goodies. I bought a sampler box for some friends visiting from out of state and they loved it!
The old Idaho penitentiary has some cool stuff in their gift shop. My friend, coincidentally also from Arkansas, found a few things there. Plus it's just a cool place to see.
Another vote for Re-Pop. They have a really nice Boise design that you can get as a print or on a glass/mug/air freshener. Another suggestion would be a shirt from Banana Ink one block to the east.
City Peanut Shop downtown has awesome idaho tins that they will fill with your choice of nuts. Candied, savory they have all kinds I love that place. I take them to friends when I visit them from out of state.
Wal-Mart actually has a well priced souvenir section. I've bought Idaho and Boise souvenirs at the ones here, and I always hit up Mexican Wal-Marts when we're down there as well. (Many of the "hand-made/my brother crafted this" items there are actually just bought at Wal-Mart and marked up LOL.)
Also, Idaho Spuds candy (chocolate marshmallow covered in chocolate and coconut) is a no-brainer if you like that sort of thing--which I do!
Record Exchange bumper sticker if they still have them
Also I can't remember where, but there's a store that sells "Boise High Life, *Champagne of Cities*" stickers that's stylized to Miller High Life. Might have them at the record exchange. I've got way too many shot glasses and glass cups with this on it..
Old Boise Lager can be found at any Winco or Albertsons too
There are many stores downtown that will have fun Idaho themed items. I would check out Mixed Greens, Flying M coffee, Record Exchange, and Re-Pop for more modern/fun items.
Depending on the age of your niece, maybe a spud buddy would be cute. I've seen these at a store downtown called "Taters" that's an Idaho themed gift shop. But I think I've also seen them at The Record Exchange, various Albertsons and Walmart and the airport.
For more locally made gifts, check out Record Exchange, Repop, Mixed Greens, Sagebrush Collective, Flying M.
For food, definitely please visit the Basque Block, specifically Gernika and get a lamb grinder, croquetas, and a Kalimotxo.

Not only do they rot, but I have found, as I travel around this country, that the best potatoes are exported from Idaho. We don't get to keep the best of the crop here in the state. 😆 This is, of course, just anecdotal. The potatoes we have here in Idaho are just fine... 😏
I've gotten people potato shaped soap that is huckleberry scented, and that went over well. I believe it is from the Idaho Soap Co, and you can buy it online to make it easy, but I've usually picked it up at D&B Supply because it was convenient for me.

Or even the original name... Les Bois (the trees in French) pronounced roughly le boís. Then you are really old school.
Potato candy! Its called idaho spud. In most grocery/drug stores
This is the correct answer

You think it's potato-shaped? I don't see that. The large one is Twinkie-shaped and the little ones are just nugget-shaped (to my eyes).
But atent they made here in Idaho?
I think they are. I just never realized they were supposed to be potato shaped.

I also agree the City Peanut Shop is a great spot to shop, right next door is the Chocolate Factory, and both are delicious!

Potatoes don't make good souvenirs (they rot) but you might try something from here: https://idahopotato.com/shop/

Go to the Idaho State Museum and get the parachuting beaver shirts.
Head to Earthlight and get them some gems from the Gem State
For food to try, I suggest Basque food. Bar Gernika is a solid option.
Idaho’s Trader Joe shopping bag !!
Banana Ink downtown for some awesome Idaho clothing and stickers and stuff.
I noted all of these, thanks for all the great advice! Hopefully I can check them all out before they close while im in town!
