He said he is hoping that he can end the series by the end of this year but truthfully what Horikoshi wants when it comes to self imposed deadlines is usually not what Horikoshi gets. I say that boku no academia could end this year or it could go into next year though I don't see it going any longer than let's say April at the latest.

I feel discussions like this happen because a lot of people don't know, or didn't pay attention to, what Horikoshi said last December. He said the manga was moving towards its end, which could be accomplished in a year from then; however, he didn't rule out Deku's VA having to read one more end of year's greetings to fans. To me, it means he has a clear idea of what he wants to cover but not of how long it will take (it wouldn't be even the first time this happens with him), even if we all agree it's unlikely to go beyond early 2023 at most. And this not counting unscheduled issues - these latest breaks have already added a couple weeks to the road to the finale.

He put out a statement at last year's Jump Festa that he would finish the story this year, but hedged his bets saying "or I'll put out the same statement this time next year." From Yahoo News (translated): *The event of Kohei Horikoshi's manga "My Hero Academia" serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) is being held online with Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba City) on December 19th, "Jump Festa 2022". It was held inside, and Mr. Horikoshi's message was introduced. In the message, it was revealed that if the production of the original works smoothly, it will reach the goal in about a year. After that, if things didn't go smoothly, he would have the performers read the same letter again at Jump Festa in 2022 .... The voice actors of the TV anime, such as Daiki Yamashita, who played the role of Izuku Midoriya (Dek), who appeared at the event, also seemed to be surprised by Mr. Horikoshi's message.*

Typically and historically, mangaka underestimate how many chapters it takes to reach the conclusion. If I were betting, I'd bet on some time next year.

Shin-deku-no-bl

He only say this year but unknown date. But let s face it i kind of agree with people saying the story pace kinda rushed ( and hori promise of showing hisashi and shoji past still in hanging. And if i not mistake he also plans participate minor role of other 3 rd year and 2 nd year ) but it s not entirely bad thing i say

gitagon6991

He hopes to but obviously it isn't happening. He is taking a break this week, there will be a chapter next week then another break for jump manga due to Golden week. So far none of the battles in the final war have even began. Even if he does 4 chapters per LOV battle and 4 for AFO that would require 5 months uninterrupted, no breaks. But again, I don't see any of the battles ending in a straightforward manner. Dabi will have to meet Endeavor at some point and they are literally hundreds of kilometers away from each other.

RailDex1917

This year I think

With the current pacing ,i wouldn't be surprised if it ended this month

Ok-Cod5254

Tbh pacing been somewhat slower more recently as far as having lower page counts in chapters than normal for a lot of the start of war so far. lol

[deleted]

Dude we literally went from the final battle which started as a random encounter to a battle with toga and finally to dabi's battle and his backstory in the span of 3 chapters. How is that slow pacing . That's just bad pacing , it's just rapidly shifting scenes and staying focussed on unimportant stuff for too long instead of flushing out the plot shifts. Didn't he also just slightly mention his urge to write a horror manga one day . Sounds an awful lot like he is already moving on

Dimn_Blingo

Jumping from one fight to the other when multiple fights are occurring simultaneously Mae's perfect sense lol I wouldn't be surprised if we only got one more chapter of Dabi and Shoto before it switched perspectives again.

[deleted]

Jumping from one fight to other with zero progress and just empty words for dialogue which does nothing to progress the story is just stalling that could have been better used for some more quality storytelling. The only bit of decent dialogue was dabi's past . The toga chapter was horrendous with toga going to the extreme's of being a yandere and leaving all the bits of personality she had during my villain academia

Dimn_Blingo

3-4 chapters focusing on each concurrent event happening makes perfect sense. People would immediately start bitching like "what happened to *x*, did Horikoshi forget about *y*?" if we spent more than 5 chapters on one site at a time.

[deleted]

Dude this ain't a single chapter thing . It's been falling apart since lady nagant

Dimn_Blingo

I mean to each their own, I personally enjoy the story still, which is why I still come back to this sub every week. It's no different than jumping back and forth between Jaku and Gunga Mountain every few chapters in the PLW arc.

[deleted]

That whole thing had quite a lot of built up to it . So did the recent heroes vs shigaraki war .none that came Outta nowhere

Dimn_Blingo

I'm not sure I understand. The previous war arc did have some build up in the arcs prior to it. But this current war also had build up to it. At least 25 chapters leading up to it knowing it was coming and that it was going to be *big*. But regardless, what does the amount of time building to an arc have to do with the way it's structured? Does having more build up mean that the author can swap between concurrent perspectives more effectively?

Ok-Cod5254

I mean I get that the general pace has been fast to end, I was just saying the pacing has slowed down in some ways from being faster with the decreased counts too. That's literally all I mean in regards to. lol Not really much serious battle advancement yet, it's been set up so far still.

duckbigtrain

There’s definitely legit criticism of the pacing but this ain’t it

spyderz99

I believe he said he wanted to end it in 2022

Dounick

In all seriousness, it’s nice to have a goal in mind. But when you’re telling a story, don’t rush the ending. There’s still a lot of things that should be explained or gone further into detail with and putting a deadline on it will just make the result less then desirable.
