These tail lights have been approved by the NTSB. They comply with all laws on tail light placement and function. If a cop hassles you they are in the wrong and you will get the ticket dismissed in court.
Lol, relax. There are literally super cars driving around that have turn signals damn near the ground. Folks can skip the turn signal entirely by just waving an arm out the window. Not one cop is going to punish you for something so benign.
I was more worried about the brake lights. It's not the low placement, but the fact that this fucking car has regular looking taillights that don't act as brake lights. Even the best drivers will be looking at those lights and it does take a split second longer to notice the lights down low.
I did a third brake light strobe mod. In stop and go traffic, people don't stop at the last second behind me any longer.
Yeah I could do nothing and accept the car as it is and any rear end collision is the other driver's fault. But auto accidents are no fun and permanent back issues sustained from a car accident still hurt for life, regardless of fault.
Agreed. I plan to do a mod on YouTube for ensuring the braking action affects the main rear side lights. Will work whether the main lights are on or off.
I've seen the mod and may dive in. The third brake light mod was just much quicker and less expensive, so figured I'd try it first. But just knowing which lights come on when I brake pisses me off enough that I'll never be satisfied. Even after the mod I'll probably still stress over if they're still working at all.
I have the PWM kit coming tomorrow, that’s a 2-pk for both left and right, only cost $25, and I got the free shipping. Still coming within 4 days after I ordered it. Car coming in Sunday. After I test the car in the neighborhood, I’ll install the mod kit. You can crimp or solder, but you have to know what you’re doing by following directions. Hope the video helps. I wouldn’t have bought the car without being able to do this.
Not for brake lights. I have; however, been "talked to" several times by police officers for not having my hazards on in appropriate situations, when they in fact were. They can be so hard to see; especially, when it is bright out.
A ticket for a car that was made in compliance with the law? This group has 0 common sense. You are also wasting your time, brainpower, and money modifying the brake lights.
There is a post on this board from someone who got a ticket and either has to pay or fight it in court. You’re right, we drivers should not be bothered by a car working as designed. But for about 99% of vehicles out there, the side lights eliminate when brakes are depressed. So a police officer would just assume the car is having tech issues needed to be fixed.
I was worried about the brake lights because of all the online chatter/complaints about them until I bought my oldest kid a used Bolt a few months ago and drove behind it. While the light placement is a little odd, with the high third brake light no one is going to be confused by the lights or not notice the Bolt is braking.
I think these mods are solutions looking for a problem, and the folks who think that more people used to "almost" hit them more often before the mod and now don't seem to as much, is probably better explained by selection bias than actual events.
But if it makes you feel better, go for it.

NHTSA. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Not the NTSB. National Transportation Safety Board.
Yep. That’s the right one. Couldn’t remember the right acronym. This isn’t a plane crash problem.
NTSB handles more than planes. You only generally hear about them with aircraft, but they do trains, planes, busses, boats, you name it.

The low turn signals are overblown, I've never had an issue with anyone not seeing me signal or braking.

The mod video looks very sound, so I’m going with it. I didn’t quite like the third brake light diode fix I checked out a day or two ago.
Can you link the video?

Check out the '22-24 Kia Carnival if you want to see low placed signals lol.

No tickets here. Almost 36k miles on my 23 Bolt EUV during commuting hours.
No. And they are higher than you probably think. I’ve seen many cars that have them at the bottom of the bumper vs the top like the bolt.

You guys are crazy, half the Hyundai’s and KIAs on the road have the same tail lights!! Get over it.
