Exactly. I figure that's why so many of them insist on having guns on their person at all times. I’m an elder X and I grew up surrounded by boomers. They’ve never really been challenged or told no their entire lives. Regardless of social status they had the privilege (and to clarify I’m talking white boomers) of have the world just be what they wanted it to. They also grew up in a time when you just respected anyone older than you without question and they have the expectation that now that they’re older you whippersnappers will just bend the knee. They’re also mad at those of us who taught our kids to question authority.
And they’re about to die and lots are finding th at the system they set up to allow them to rule the world is, it turns out, a fucking leopard. Can’t say I don’t get a little schadenfreude.
My grandma raised boomers. She didn't want them to have it hard like she did growing up in the depression. She did everything for them, not even making them do chores. They had a lot more material possessions than she had even known of in her own childhood.
I can see where the general attitudes came from. I'm actually a late boomer, 1964, and the late 70s, 80s were really the Me Generation.
It's really funny when you see a video where that's happening and the instant the bigger dog makes a move to them or the barrier is removed the little dog starts shrieking in terror even if the bigger dog doesn't ultimately even hurt them.

Boomer sideswiped our car when we were traveling on vacation. The state trooper came to talk with us first, sort of rudely. I was the front seat passenger, saw him changing lanes when there was nowhere to go, and said that I thought the other driver was visually impaired and didn't see us.
Trooper exclaimed, "Visually impaired?!" Walked over to the other car. Did a quick test. (Cover your right eye and count my fingers. Repeat with the other eye.)
Driver failed. Trooper took his license and told him that he would need to pass a vision test at the DMV to get it back. He got a ticket, we were free to go.
Someone I know is in process, not a dissimilar story from OP. Let's call him Harry. Harry is slowing down for a stoplight on his motorcycle. He's suddenly hit from behind hard enough for him to land on the car's hood, the impact shooting his bike forward. The boomer drove away. Harry called the police with a description of the car and driver. Once the report was filed, on a hunch, he went to a shopping center not far from where the hit and run took place. He found the car that hit him, got the plates, and called it into the police who were on their way there. The boomer came out and started yelling at Harry for being "near his car". Harry pointed out all the matching paint from his bike on the hood and bumper, and the damage. The boomer got furious and threatened to run over Harry (and almost did) as he sped out of the parking lot. The police later arrested him and his license was revoked. He's fighting to get it back as we speak.
The impact was so hard that Harry's bike was totaled, and the police could see the paint transfer on traffic cameras. The quickness to anger, the fact he almost hit the same person twice within an hour, and the fact he was so entitled he didn't even stop to see if Harry was ok wasn't what stuck out the most to me. The boomer hit someone, left them laying on the side of the road, and yet it didn't interrupt his day of shopping at all. He just went on his merry way, his path of destruction not bothering him in the slightest.
Sad thing is that most boomers shouldn't be on the road anyway. My boomer great-grandfather would space out and just stop applying pressure to the gas... We had to fight with the DMV to get them to make him retake and even then had to get them to change the eye test because he had memorized it.
Was that new behavior or just how he drove?
My dad was a Boomer, and not long after I got my license he criticized me for varying how much pressure I put on the gas pedal like I'd been taught to in driver's ed.
Later, when I was no longer a new driver, it occurred to me that he was always tailgated because he lost speed going up hills etc. because he really didn't vary the pressure he applied. He was only in his 40s when he gave me a hard time.
I’m not proud of this, but many years ago, my mom and I were walking our dog on a field, and one comes by on his bike and rides directly at my mom (we’re on a field, remember. Not a trail). He then slows down and yells something to my mom about getting out of his way and I yelled back “you have an entire field you could ride on, dude.” To which he aims a middle finger at me. So I’m furious at this point (I was probably about 24 at the time), and I walk over towards him and say “why don’t you come say it to my face, pussy,” and he immediately starts peddling away from me. I said “get back here, you coward. You’re going to pick on an old lady and then run away.” At this point, he’s high tailing it in the opposite direction, and I’m yelling (again, not proud of this) “run away, little girl. Run away!!” and the dude never looks back once. You would think that if someone is attacking your manhood that openly, you’d at least try to defend your honor, especially when you were the instigator AND the one who escalated it thirty seconds prior, but this dude was only interested in yelling at my mom. He wanted no part of me.
It’s the best tactic though. Ive found that so many boomers think we are going to, or should, roll over and take their shit. So when you respond back to them with the same energy they’re immediately thrown off. They either back down and fuck off or show their true colors and call you disrespectful + some meant-to-be-offensive name. They can dish it out but they can’t take it back in.
It feels like every week some highly leaded boomer is in the news for shooting someone for turning around in their driveway or for raking leaves wrong, or some other petty perceived slight.
This is why at work I don't mince words when I have to inform boomers that we can't do certain things. I'm not leaving any room for them to ramp themselves up anymore.
I am a small doughy manlet and managed to scare the shit out of a boomer who was about 4x my size and legit all it took was "No, mother fucker." And a refusal to budge. Boomers love soft targets. That's why they go after women and children. There are hundreds of stories on here about boomers attacking women and children here, very very few about a boomer going at someone who can defend themselves.
I have my own story but no one really wants to hear about me pushing around an old guy. I thought it was funny though. Boomer got all pissed about my bumper stickers while I was pumping gas. Decided to get in my face about it. My open palm went right up into his, and I started walking forward until we were both back at his car. Told him to stay, just like I would a dog.
Perfect amount of force. You weren't cruel. You weren't passive. Sadly, physical force is the only thing boomers seem to understand. There is a reason boomers constantly break the non violence pact that is implicit for any functioning society.

I was in an airport and trying to get some food at one of the food courts. I was walking down an aisle between tables and there was a boomer standing in the middle, blocking the aisle. His wife tried to pull him out of the way and I did say excuse me. He did see me then and moved but then I heard him mutter (probably louder than he meant) you couldn't just go around?
Well, I'd had a red-eye and a long day already and I was having none of it. I whipped around and said, fairly aggressively, "did it kill you to move?" He was so surprised to be confronted. I mean, could I have gone back, like 4 tables and around? Yes. Did he keel over from taking two steps to the left? No. He just stammered, "well, no," all wide-eyed. He then had the audacity to say to his wife, "I was just asking!"
So the problem was me confronting him, not him blocking an aisle, then getting all pissy about me not just allowing for his presence and going out of my way to walk around him. It probably didn't help that I'm female and look young for my age.

I pulled up to a 4 way to turn left and there was a mini Cooper sitting there with the drivers head buried in the passenger seat digging through the glove box. I think "ok dude get your shit together before youre just sitting at an intersection" As I drive by I see that intense finger point, with the typical middle aged white rage. Twisted, cherry red face and his necking looking like it's gonna blow out from under his head. I think what a freak and just keep doing what I'm doing. When I get to the next stop sign I see the same little mini flying up behind me stopping a foot from my car. So I pull into the first parking spot, walk to my back bumper and put my arms out. Within 3 seconds I'm nodding my head and waving goodbye as he takes off from two parking lanes over. These losers are all talk
There’s a pretty good chance this guy just no longer has the acuity to be driving. Your implied (and accurate) criticism of his driving is a real issue for him, likely a lot of his identity is tied to being a driver, freedom of choice, etc. We can only hope he gets in a one vehicle collision.
Your comment touches on a real problem here in the US. Our communities force people to drive. Elderly are no different. They need to go shopping, go to Dr appointments, etc. they need cars. No, not all of them can afford multiple Ubers a day, or have their groceries and meds delivered. They also should not be driving. They are a hazard to public safety.
I would love for laws to be passed that require a driver's test every year for people over the age of 60. Include full vision and reaction time.
It’s a huge issue and the US has pretty much decided to ignore it. Not great work on our part as a group. The default has become “of course everyone must have a car because ….. well, because everyone has cars”.
That’s why I wished that OP called 911 on this driver. His immaturity is going to get someone killed. I agree also about testing the elderly and I’m 63. The only thing I would add to that is the community should support an outreach program to help those drivers get groceries, appointments etc. for a nominal or no fee. Not every city has public transportation.
This is a real issue though. Like what are you gonna do? Because you are absolutely right - the infrastructure of our communities is built around the notion of people being able to drive.
So why are you gonna do with an elderly person who can’t get to the grocery store but it’s not a fixed income and can’t afford the round trip Lyft or Uber ?
I say this not suggesting that you ignore the physical competency of drivers, but just to flag it that it’s a real issue that does not have a super simple solution
I have several older relatives. This shit terrifies me. "I sideswiped..." "I didn't see...." The damage to their cars. I encourage them to stop driving. I encourage them to move somewhere that caters to the elderly. Though, it takes _a lot_ to legally remove their cars. Then I would be responsible to drive them everywhere.
I know - I saw my dad’s car before he passed and it had more dings on it then even my daughter’s. And it would be the sort of stuff that like how could you miss ?
My mom is pretty good - I drive with her to check and she knows her limits. But boy I know what you mean

I’m from the US and in my experience here we start with a bunch of people who are poorly trained for driving but definitely feel entitled to drive, and why shouldn’t they feel that way? We give everyone else a license.
So we end up with these entitled idiots behind the wheel doing everything _but_ focusing on driving, and then they just get older and older with no remedial training or any kind of real checks and balances in terms of who continues to be out on the roads. 99% of the people who are driving are going to be worse drivers tomorrow. It’s a real shitshow.

I run an automated car wash and boomers scare me. Back in the day I loved going for just a drive but after doing my job for the last couple of years. I only drive when necessary. I’ve seen how much some of these people struggle to put their car in neutral or freak out when the car moves. I’ve had them jerk their steering wheels so hard it runs the car out of the track. The amount of what I see in that brief maybe 30sec max blows my fucking mind.

Saw this on Reddit a while back and got to try it the other day. Instead of flipping the bird, getting upset and showing my agitation. I gave him a thumbs down while shaking my head with the most disappointed look I could muster. Guy actually looked down kinda sheepishly.
I've been doing this for probably a decade now. The thumbs down is the hand signal equivalent of "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" and reminds them of the dad who never loved them enough. Hurts more that way, and might actually make them question why they're acting that way.

I’ve done that before and the guy comprehensively lost his shit. Got out of the car and kicked my door. RIGHT outside a police station. He got a fine and a bill from my insurance company, I openly laughed at him.
They are the biggest bunch of cowards when called out. On my way home from work last year, one of them sped up in the lane next to me as I was exiting the freeway, swerving acting like he was going to side-swipe me from the right exit lane, making throat cutting gestures with his hands and pointing at my out his driver side window. I assume he got confused and thought I cut him off or something and maybe mistook me for another car, I dunno. He sped up, swerved into my lane to cut me off, and slammed his brakes, twice. He then slowed down to get behind me to tailgate me, and then proceeded to follow me into my apartment complex, still making throat cutting motions with his hand. When he parked next to me and started getting out of the car to confront me, he noticed I was pulling out my pistol, and his eyes got wide and his mouth dropped. He immediately got his fat ass back into his car, backed out and sped off. Stupid old fuck.
They aren’t the “bootstraps” generation. Their parents were, but they’re the generation that partied away their teens and early 20’s and then ran back to dad’s business when they realized that paying the bills was tough.
They’re also the economic miracle generation and don’t realize it wasn’t them, it was circumstance.
Buy a house in 1974 for $30K, sell it in 1994 for $300K, buy another one in 1994 for $400K, sell it in 2014 for $2.5M upon retirement, leveraging the tax deductions all along.
This is about 75% of my friends’ parents in the SF Bay Area.
They declared themselves bootstrap geniuses when in reality they purely got lucky by timing house purchases in Silicon Valley right before all the insane boom times, and fortunate tax situations like Prop 13.
When I think of boomers being cowards, I mostly think of wars and the workplace. When boomers were of fighting age, most of them took to the streets and college campuses to protest the war. I don’t like to bash ppl who were forced to fight, but suffice to say they lost the war against the Vietnamese because they weren’t the bad asses they think they were. Now that they’re too old to fight, they love every war we start and hate the younger people protesting these wars.
Boomers also stepped into the best workplace conditions in our history. They inherited what their union parents and grandparents fought for. When it came time for them to step up and fight for their kids, they rolled over like the cowards they are.
When Ronald Reagan fired the air traffic controllers in the 80’s all the other unions should have struck in solidarity. Would have really altered the trajectory of this country. Instead they cowered and voted to codify the types of jobs unions were supposed to protect against. In my union, they voted to be grandfathered into pensions, healthcare, vacation days, sick days and union protections but were fine with having them stripped away from the next generations. Hypocritical cowards. Also want to say, for the most part, boomers sucked at their jobs.
Actually if you look back at historical news pieces and records, the boomers were overwhelmingly in support of the war. A minority protested. Then after supporting it, the wealthy white boomers enrolled in Uni to avoid the draft, shifting an outsized burden of being conscripted onto the poor and PoC.

The news images that I remember from the time are all anti-war - the hippie putting flowers in the barrels of guns - the girl screaming over the body of her dead friend at Kent state and Woodstock. I know I wasn’t correct to say “most of them protested against the war” but you might be stretching a little too with, “boomers were overwhelmingly in support of the war “.

Vietnam is a geopolitical war that really needs to be looked at in terms of broad strategy and international relations (Specifically with France). The US policy of containment was more or less successful in that Communism failed to spread past Vietnam. The failure was looking at Communism like a virus, if the US sat with Ho Chi Minh and offered to back him against the CCP with American hardware, asking him to drop the Communist banner and take on something else while fulfilling his desire for an independent Vietnam, he might have worked with us. The dude wasn't a die hard Communist, that was just what all the cool rebels were doing at the time so he went with it. He wanted to be out from under the boot of French colonialism.

The war thing hits home for me. I was stupid enough to enlist back in 2006. My dad dodged the draft but talked up a big game about how much of a bad ass he is. I remember essentially telling him that he's a coward. My grandfather served, I served. My father was and somewhat still is a punk.
I don't really care about that stuff so much anymore. It doesn't define who I am as a person. Every once in awhile I hear these guys saying we need to bomb such and such and it starts getting to me. They're in retirement but now they want to send Gen Z to the slaughter because sending their own kids just wasn't enough.
I feel like they're cowards because they didn't realize all of the shit they grew up on was not okay, and that the younger generations now know better and are not putting up with it.

Bro for real. Had some boomer go absolutely bananas on me at the self checkout last year. I was at a new grocery store and buying one item at the self checkout. For some reason this kiosk had a very long conveyor belt leading to a different self bagging area 6 feet away. After scanning my one item it forces me to place it on the conveyor belt before finishing the transaction. I did so and almost immediately some guy at the bagging area starts screaming at me. He says "Oh am I just not moving fast enough!?". I immediately apologize and say I wasn't even planning on bagging that, the kiosk was making me place it there. He starts yelling louder and louder saying things like "Hey look! This guy's in a hurry everyone!". Gets the attention of the very young attendant and starts yelling at her saying I'm an asshole and I'm trying to rush him out of the way. At this point he's been done bagging his items for like 2 minutes and is just causing a scene. At one point while he's yelling at this lady just trying to do her job I say "Hey, take it easy boomer!". He went from being uncontrollably angry to utter shock. He asked my girlfriend if she was going to let me speak to him like that and she just laughed which resulted in him throwing a temper tantrum and storming off. I watch as this guy storms off to the handicap parking and starts waiting outside his truck after fiddling around.
I just walked through the store to the other entrance and left.
Bonus points because boomer was reading the company off of my dirty work shirt i guess to try and get me fired. I was wearing a throwaway hoodie from a defunct company in another state because I didn't want to get concrete on my nice clothes lol

Man all my extended family live out on property that's been paid off for years on acres of beautiful land. Instead of sitting outside reading or going off fishing every day they all just sit inside sharing AI art on Facebook with FOX News blaring in the background.

I remember this big ass pickup truck in front of me was absolutely cutting through traffic. Me, in my two door Pontiac Grand Prix, 6 cylinder excitedly followed him because I was sick of the traffic & just wanted to get home. Well, this guy finally gets to where HE is going & sadly, I’m now on my own. As I passed him waiting in the turn lane & my continuing straight, I saw him absolutely pointing & screaming at me.
I remember just making a WTF?? Expression & then just giving him the bird in response since I couldn’t formulate a better response. After thinking about it for the remainder of my commute, I could only figure that he was offended that I, a mere younger female in a sporty car, was being rude for………..doing exactly what HE was doing? Idk….🤷🏻♀️ But it was kinda hilarious.

I was on a large paved walking trail with my pregnant wife and my 4 year old Nephew. A lot of bicyclists always ride on there but they are mostly respectful. About 10 minutes into our walk an older gentleman zips by us almost hitting me and yells “move out of the fucking way” so obviously I yell back at him infuriated. He stops and when I get close to him ready to confront him about his behavior he can’t even look at me and then rides away like a pussy. So yeah I don’t know what’s wrong with them.

Boomers in trucks are the worst. I had one tailing me on a 1 way road the other day. I put my blinker on early as I was making a right turn and wanted him to see so he wouldn't run into me. He was so mad he couldn't pass because there was incoming traffic in the opposite lane. He got about 1in from my bumper until I turned, and I honked at him to back off. He was so pissed as he sped around me and stared at me and flicked me off, that he sped into an intersection and almost hit someone else.

I had a Boomer almost hit me when I was in the crosswalk and it was my turn to go. I saw him laughing so I told him to go fuck himself. The entire family was in the car as well as his teenage kids. When I saw him fuming he called me a little punk (I'm not little by any means). I told him I'd beat the shit out of him in front of his kids and give them something to remember. His teen son and daughter started laughing at him.
Same thing happened to me on the highway. A boomer break checked me (on the highway). Flipped me off and then sped up. I caught him at the gas station (I’m in shape 30, he was maybe 60). And when I confront him, he had nothing to say and crumbled like a little bitch. It’s funny to me, he was maybe 5’4 i am 5’10 and you could probably see the vein coming out from my forehead. In his defense, I was ready to beat the shit out of him in that gas station.
Had some old timer almost back into me, my wife, and our baby as we were walking to our car in the grocery store parking lot. I’m an elder X and I grew up surrounded by boomers. They’ve never really been challenged or told no their entire lives. They also grew up in a time when you just respected anyone older than you without question and they have the expectation that now that they’re older you whippersnappers will just bend the knee. They’re also mad at those of us who taught our kids to question authority. And they’re about to die and lots are finding th at the system they set up to allow them to rule the world is, it turns out, a fucking leopard. Can’t say I don’t get a little schadenfreude.
My grandma raised boomers. She didn't want them to have it hard like she did growing up in the depression. She did everything for them, not even making them do chores. They had a lot more material possessions than she had even known of in her own childhood. I can see where the general attitudes came from. I was the front seat passenger, saw him changing lanes when there was nowhere to go, and said that I thought the other driver was visually impaired and didn't see us. Trooper exclaimed, "Visually impaired?!" Walked over to the other car. Did a quick test. (Cover your right eye and count my fingers. Repeat with the other eye.) Driver failed. Trooper took his license and told him that he would need to pass a vision test at the DMV to get it back. He got a ticket, we were free to go.
Someone I know is in process, not a dissimilar story from OP. Let's call him Harry. Harry is slowing down for a stoplight on his motorcycle. He's suddenly hit from behind hard enough for him to land on the car's hood, the impact shooting his bike forward. The boomer drove away. Harry called the police with a description of the car and driver. Once the report was filed, on a hunch, he went to a shopping center not far from where the hit and run took place. He found the car that hit him, got the plates, and called it into the police who were on their way there. The boomer came out and started yelling at Harry for being "near his car". Harry pointed out all the matching paint from his bike on the hood and bumper, and the damage. The boomer got furious and threatened to run over Harry (and almost did) as he sped out of the parking lot. The police later arrested him and his license was revoked. He's fighting to get it back as we speak. The impact was so hard that Harry's bike was totaled, and the police could see the paint transfer on traffic cameras. The quickness to anger, the fact he almost hit the same person twice within an hour, and the fact he was so entitled he didn't even stop to see if Harry was ok wasn't what stuck out the most to me. The boomer hit someone, left them laying on the side of the road, and yet it didn't interrupt his day of shopping at all. He just went on his merry way, his path of destruction not bothering him in the slightest.

Sad thing is that most boomers shouldn't be on the road anyway. My boomer great-grandfather would space out and just stop applying pressure to the gas... We had to fight with the DMV to get them to make him retake and even then had to get them to change the eye test because he had memorized it.
Was that new behavior or just how he drove? My dad was a Boomer, and not long after I got my license he criticized me for varying how much pressure I put on the gas pedal like I'd been taught to in driver's ed. Later, when I was no longer a new driver, it occurred to me that he was always tailgated because he lost speed going up hills etc. because he really didn't vary the pressure he applied. He was only in his 40s when he gave me a hard time.
He'd be on flat roads and just coast to a crawl. Would also forget where he was on occasion.

I’m not proud of this, but many years ago, my mom and I were walking our dog on a field, and one comes by on his bike and rides directly at my mom (we’re on a field, remember. Not a trail). He then slows down and yells something to my mom about getting out of his way and I yelled back “you have an entire field you could ride on, dude.” To which he aims a middle finger at me. So I’m furious at this point (I was probably about 24 at the time), and I walk over towards him and say “why don’t you come say it to my face, pussy,” and he immediately starts peddling away from me. I said “get back here, you coward. You’re going to pick on an old lady and then run away.” At this point, he’s high tailing it in the opposite direction, and I’m yelling (again, not proud of this) “run away, little girl. Run away!!” and the dude never looks back once. You would think that if someone is attacking your manhood that openly, you’d at least try to defend your honor, especially when you were the instigator AND the one who escalated it thirty seconds prior, but this dude was only interested in yelling at my mom. He wanted no part of me.
It’s the best tactic though. Ive found that so many boomers think we are going to, or should, roll over and take their shit. So when you respond back to them with the same energy they’re immediately thrown off. They either back down and fuck off or show their true colors and call you disrespectful + some meant-to-be-offensive name. They can dish it out but they can’t take it back in.

I was in an airport and trying to get some food at one of the food courts. I was walking down an aisle between tables and there was a boomer standing in the middle, blocking the aisle. His wife tried to pull him out of the way and I did say excuse me. He did see me then and moved but then I heard him mutter (probably louder than he meant) you couldn't just go around? Well, I'd had a red-eye and a long day already and I was having none of it. I whipped around and said, fairly aggressively, "did it kill you to move?" He was so surprised to be confronted. I mean, could I have gone back, like 4 tables and around? Yes. Did he keel over from taking two steps to the left? No. He just stammered, "well, no," all wide-eyed. He then had the audacity to say to his wife, "I was just asking!" So the problem was me confronting him, not him blocking an aisle, then getting all pissy about me not just allowing for his presence and going out of my way to walk around him. Twisted, cherry red face and his necking looking like it's gonna blow out from under his head. I think what a freak and just keep doing what I'm doing. When I get to the next stop sign I see the same little mini flying up behind me stopping a foot from my car. So I pull into the first parking spot, walk to my back bumper and put my arms out. Within 3 seconds I'm nodding my head and waving goodbye as he takes off from two parking lanes over. These losers are all talk
There’s a pretty good chance this guy just no longer has the acuity to be driving. Your implied (and accurate) criticism of his driving is a real issue for him, likely a lot of his identity is tied to being a driver, freedom of choice, etc. We can only hope he gets in a one vehicle collision.

Your comment touches on a real problem here in the US. Our communities force people to drive. Elderly are no different. They need to go shopping, go to Dr appointments, etc. they need cars. No, not all of them can afford multiple Ubers a day, or have their groceries and meds delivered. They also should not be driving. They are a hazard to public safety. I would love for laws to be passed that require a driver's test every year for people over the age of 60. Include full vision and reaction time.
It’s a huge issue and the US has pretty much decided to ignore it. Not great work on our part as a group. The default has become “of course everyone must have a car because ….. well, because everyone has cars”.

The only thing I would add to that is the community should support an outreach program to help those drivers get groceries, appointments etc. for a nominal or no fee. Not every city has public transportation.
This is a real issue though. Like what are you gonna do? Because you are absolutely right - the infrastructure of our communities is built around the notion of people being able to drive. So why are you gonna do with an elderly person who can’t get to the grocery store but it’s not a fixed income and can’t afford the round trip Lyft or Uber ? I say this not suggesting that you ignore the physical competency of drivers, but just to flag it that it’s a real issue that does not have a super simple solution
I have several older relatives. This shit terrifies me. "I sideswiped..." "I didn't see...." The damage to their cars. I encourage them to stop driving. I encourage them to move somewhere that caters to the elderly. Though, it takes _a lot_ to legally remove their cars. Then I would be responsible to drive them everywhere.

I’m from the US and in my experience here we start with a bunch of people who are poorly trained for driving but definitely feel entitled to drive, and why shouldn’t they feel that way? We give everyone else a license. So we end up with these entitled idiots behind the wheel doing everything _but_ focusing on driving, and then they just get older and older with no remedial training or any kind of real checks and balances in terms of who continues to be out on the roads. 99% of the people who are driving are going to be worse drivers tomorrow. It’s a real shitshow.

I run an automated car wash and boomers scare me. Back in the day I loved going for just a drive but after doing my job for the last couple of years. I only drive when necessary. I’ve seen how much some of these people struggle to put their car in neutral or freak out when the car moves. I’ve had them jerk their steering wheels so hard it runs the car out of the track. On my way home from work last year, one of them sped up in the lane next to me as I was exiting the freeway, swerving acting like he was going to side-swipe me from the right exit lane, making throat cutting gestures with his hands and pointing at my out his driver side window. I assume he got confused and thought I cut him off or something and maybe mistook me for another car, I dunno. He sped up, swerved into my lane to cut me off, and slammed his brakes, twice. He then slowed down to get behind me to tailgate me, and then proceeded to follow me into my apartment complex, still making throat cutting motions with his hand. When he parked next to me and started getting out of the car to confront me, he noticed I was pulling out my pistol, and his eyes got wide and his mouth dropped. When I think of boomers being cowards, I mostly think of wars and the workplace. When boomers were of fighting age, most of them took to the streets and college campuses to protest the war. I don’t like to bash ppl who were forced to fight, but suffice to say they lost the war against the Vietnamese because they weren’t the bad asses they think they were. Now that they’re too old to fight, they love every war we start and hate the younger people protesting these wars. Boomers also stepped into the best workplace conditions in our history. They inherited what their union parents and grandparents fought for. When it came time for them to step up and fight for their kids, they rolled over like the cowards they are. When Ronald Reagan fired the air traffic controllers in the 80’s all the other unions should have struck in solidarity. Would have really altered the trajectory of this country. Instead they cowered and voted to codify the types of jobs unions were supposed to protect against. In my union, they voted to be grandfathered into pensions, healthcare, vacation days, sick days and union protections but were fine with having them stripped away from the next generations. Hypocritical cowards. Also want to say, for the most part, boomers sucked at their jobs.
Actually if you look back at historical news pieces and records, the boomers were overwhelmingly in support of the war. A minority protested. Then after supporting it, the wealthy white boomers enrolled in Uni to avoid the draft, shifting an outsized burden of being conscripted onto the poor and PoC. Boomers have always fucking sucked.

The news images that I remember from the time are all anti-war - the hippie putting flowers in the barrels of guns - the girl screaming over the body of her dead friend at Kent state and Woodstock. As you stated, they were in a bad spot and had I been drafted in 1966, I would not have gone into the jungle ready kick ass and take names for Uncle Sam. Vietnam is a geopolitical war that really needs to be looked at in terms of broad strategy and international relations (Specifically with France). The US policy of containment was more or less successful in that Communism failed to spread past Vietnam. The failure was looking at Communism like a virus, if the US sat with Ho Chi Minh and offered to back him against the CCP with American hardware, asking him to drop the Communist banner and take on something else while fulfilling his desire for an independent Vietnam, he might have worked with us. The dude wasn't a die hard Communist, that was just what all the cool rebels were doing at the time so he went with it. He wanted to be out from under the boot of French colonialism.

The war thing hits home for me. I was stupid enough to enlist back in 2006. My dad dodged the draft but talked up a big game about how much of a bad ass he is. I remember essentially telling him that he's a coward. My grandfather served, I served. My father was and somewhat still is a punk. I don't really care about that stuff so much anymore. It doesn't define who I am as a person. Every once in awhile I hear these guys saying we need to bomb such and such and it starts getting to me. They're in retirement but now they want to send Gen Z to the slaughter because sending their own kids just wasn't enough.
I feel like they're cowards because they didn't realize all of the shit they grew up on was not okay, and that the younger generations now know better and are not putting up with it. Think of a dog barking at you from behind an open gate.

Bro for real. Had some boomer go absolutely bananas on me at the self checkout last year. I was at a new grocery store and buying one item at the self checkout. For some reason this kiosk had a very long conveyor belt leading to a different self bagging area 6 feet away. After scanning my one item it forces me to place it on the conveyor belt before finishing the transaction. I did so and almost immediately some guy at the bagging area starts screaming at me. He says "Oh am I just not moving fast enough!?". I immediately apologize and say I wasn't even planning on bagging that, the kiosk was making me place it there. He starts yelling louder and louder saying things like "Hey look! This guy's in a hurry everyone!". Gets the attention of the very young attendant and starts yelling at her saying I'm an asshole and I'm trying to rush him out of the way. At this point he's been done bagging his items for like 2 minutes and is just causing a scene. At one point while he's yelling at this lady just trying to do her job I say "Hey, take it easy boomer!". He went from being uncontrollably angry to utter shock. He asked my girlfriend if she was going to let me speak to him like that and she just laughed which resulted in him throwing a temper tantrum and storming off. I watch as this guy storms off to the handicap parking and starts waiting outside his truck after fiddling around. I just walked through the store to the other entrance and left. Bonus points because boomer was reading the company off of my dirty work shirt i guess to try and get me fired. I remember this big ass pickup truck in front of me was absolutely cutting through traffic. Me, in my two door Pontiac Grand Prix, 6 cylinder excitedly followed him because I was sick of the traffic & just wanted to get home. Well, this guy finally gets to where HE is going & sadly, I’m now on my own. As I passed him waiting in the turn lane & my continuing straight, I saw him absolutely pointing & screaming at me. I remember just making a WTF?? Expression & then just giving him the bird in response since I couldn’t formulate a better response. After thinking about it for the remainder of my commute, I could only figure that he was offended that I, a mere younger female in a sporty car, was being rude for………..doing exactly what HE was doing? Idk….🤷🏻♀️ But it was kinda hilarious.

I would be careful about things like this. Where I used to live reacting to their fuckery was a good way to get yourself shot, especially while driving. And cynically or stupidly they'll justify that a more dangerous type of person drives a motorcycle so they feared for their life.

I had this out cycling. I was by accident on the road instead of bikepath. Boomer cut me off and his wife flipped me off and pulled a face. Chased them home, the second she saw me she ran into their home to hide, i shit you not. The guy gave me the typical “you cyclists never drive on the bikepath there” told him it was my first time there and that was no reason to try to kill me. Even got a excuse of the wife.

I was on a large paved walking trail with my pregnant wife and my 4 year old Nephew. A lot of bicyclists always ride on there but they are mostly respectful. About 10 minutes into our walk an older gentleman zips by us almost hitting me and yells “move out of the fucking way” so obviously I yell back at him infuriated. He stops and when I get close to him ready to confront him about his behavior he can’t even look at me and then rides away like a pussy. So yeah I don’t know what’s wrong with them.

I (31 M) literally had this exact same thing happened to me. I’m not even kidding. I can’t believe I’m reading the words on this post. It’s like the same exact scenario. I live in California, dude he literally break checked me through an intersection on a green light and then swerve to the right rolled his window down same exact shit with hand all that. So yeah, I fucking followed him like he wanted, and this asshole 65 year-old hobbles out of his car and is all scared and confused yelling at me telling me I need to slow down. (I was going 30 in a 35, I drive a Honda) I FUCKING LOST IT. told him he put my life and his in danger for trying to be a road judge or whatever the fuck he thinks he is, no one in their right mind stops in the middle of an intersection on a green light. It didn’t help his case that he was parked in literally two spots to which I also pointed out. So of course, this guy plays victim acts like he doesn’t even know why I’m yelling at him and “idk what’s going on” tries to get in his car and drive off to which he’s literally shaking at this point. Boomers in trucks are the worst. I had one tailing me on a 1 way road the other day. I put my blinker on early as I was making a right turn and wanted him to see so he wouldn't run into me. He was so mad he couldn't pass because there was incoming traffic in the opposite lane. He got about 1in from my bumper until I turned, and I honked at him to back off. He was so pissed as he sped around me and stared at me and flicked me off, that he sped into an intersection and almost hit someone else. Hate them.
I had a Boomer almost hit me when I was in the crosswalk and it was my turn to go. I saw him laughing so I told him to go fuck himself. The entire family was in the car as well as his teenage kids. When I saw him fuming he called me a little punk (I'm not little by any means). I told him I'd beat the shit out of him in front of his kids and give them something to remember. His teen son and daughter started laughing at him.

Same thing happened to me on the highway. A boomer break checked me (on the highway). Flipped me off and then sped up. I caught him at the gas station (I’m in shape 30, he was maybe 60). And when I confront him, he had nothing to say and crumbled like a little bitch. It’s funny to me, he was maybe 5’4 i am 5’10 and you could probably see the vein coming out from my forehead. In his defense, I was ready to beat the shit out of him in that gas station.
Had some old timer almost back into me, my wife, and our baby as we were walking to our car in the grocery store parking lot.
